PT8 NEO-LSR setup problem

Hi, I just bought a PT8 Neo-LSR (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=488) With 512 DDR pc-3200 RAM, WD 80gb hd, P4 300-800 CPU. His ATI 9600XT 256 Mb AGP video
Put everything together in a brand new case.
Turn the power on. THe fans ARE working either on the CPU and the video card, but that's all. no signla, no beep no nothing. I put the plug in JPW1, put my memory in slot 1. The thing I see is the jumper on JBAT1 who is in 2-3 (clear data). I tried to put it in 1-2 but then NOTHING moves.
Any idea of what I did wrong ?

had the same problem whit the same board.
the store selled me a rma one (i think).
mouse 'did not work(ps2)
no jumpers on front audio connectors
cmos jumpers was wrong (clear data)
no ide cabels and driver cd.
just get it back to the shop for a new one
the one i have now works fine

I am having problems with my new 875P LSR.  Installed O/S and software using FAT 32 and it wiped on 2 occasions.  Could not boot up trying all the sugestions on the web. Using Partition MAgic rescue disk I could still see the drives and was able to check for errors but when I used my old 98 boot disk C: came up with a message of invalid media but D: was still readable?  During both  the previous setups I used the F6 option and loaded the Intel raid XP driver for ICHR, was this the reason for my loss of system.
On my third try I used the same partitions but did not use the F6 option and also formatted in NFTS (by accident).  Everything appeard to be working so far BUT!!!!!.  I don't want the system to do over clocking I just want a secure setup for stability in normal use. I do not play games, I use the inter4net, edit my home movies and normal word processing,
    Questions
    What am I doing wrong?
What should the cofigreration for the bios onboard ID chip be. I have Mine set in Native mode, P ATA + S ATA, NO, NO, Both, S ATA 1st channel, S ATA PO1 PO2 Raid NO
Do I need to use the Intel IAA driver -or- does XP have drivers -or- do I have to download some other driver or controler for the S ATA.
Can anyone suggest a better layout for my system and how can I tel if the computer is operating with the proper drivers for S ATA, P ATA, H/T and all the other gagets on board.  Any suggestions and advise will be appreciated

    Hi back
Thanks again for the response, followed your instructions now I show a 82801eb under the controler section.  Is that all I needed?  Another question I like to keep a copy of windows 98 se on my other drive and would like to use the F11 key to boot to it.  Is there a procedure of installing it so I don't screw up my XP system.  I use a disk tray to keep the drive in so I can take it out for safety as I also store backups of my personel files on it.  Your sugestions are really appreciated.   Swan705

    I have a PT8 NEO LSR, p4, 512 ddr, 2 ata hdd 1 maxtor 1 fugitsu , 1 sata hdd (maxtor), SB live 1.5 digital , Gforce fx 5600.
now down to the problem, when using the SATA maxtor drive to boot. windows starts up no problem, sound works, but when using a 3d aplication (opengl / TL) the graphics are choppy as if there is a textuer problem or no textuers at all,  at first i thought it was the card so i put a 5700 in my machine and it did the same, then i thought it was the hard drive got it replaced and still the problem arises, i have updated my bios +mobo drivers and stil i have this problem tho when booting from ide the problem dose not arise, is this caused by the sata not being in an array (as it needs 2 drives for an aray) or is there another solution
any help would be apretiated thanks

  • PT8-Neo LSR and Radeon 9700pro

Ok so I bought my new MSI board for my 2nd PC and happily installed the P4 2.4 cpu (northwood 533fsb non-ht, this is my 2nd box after all) and 1gb ram.
Placed in the Radeon 9700Pro (with Arctic Cooling vga silencer) and everything worked great.. in fact I was very impressed with the performance.
Then this morning, I succumbed to the bright idea of .. hey I wonder if there are any updates for the bios or drivers? (   ) So installed Liveupdate 3 that came with the board, and after it had run and repatched itself twice it told me, your bios is out of date.. here's ver 2.00..
So I downloaded it, made the dos floppy, and flashed the bios (a procedure I've done many times over the years) and set the new bios up.. win2k booted fine, and everything was great until... I opened internet explorer, and the radeon promptly crashed, the ATI software recovered it, but everytime I tried anything remotely concerning graphics, the Radeon crashed. This espicially happened with anything 3D of course, but also would happen frequently with 2D gfx also.
To cut a long story short, after experimenting (like all damn day  ) with every bios for the PT8 Neo-LSR available, it seems that version 1.1 is the ONLY bios for the board which supports the Radeon 9700pro card under win2k at least. Or rather the only version that works for me and allows me to run games and stuff without Radeon stopping responding.
System isn't overclocked, and neither is the Radeon btw.. so I think I have the system working again now with v1.1 of the bios, but I haven't tested it a lot yet.. but at least it loads the radeon screen savers without crashing so far.

    Yeah..
    system is as follows..
    Msi PT8-Neo LSR
    Pentium 4 2.4C 533fsb (non-ht)
    1gb 266 ddr ram (2x 512mb)
Connect 3D radeon 9700pro 128mb (Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer in perma High mode)
    Creative SBLive value!
    IBM Deskstar 60gb ide1 master
    Seagate Barracuda 30Gb ide1 slave
    Plextor cd writer ide2 master
    Seagate Barracuda 80Gb sata 1
I think the idea mentioned before might be worth a shot... I can feel a full install of windows coming on.. more self torture
    Edit
Yes, during the course of the day I did install the latest ati catalyst drivers and dx9 also..

  • 875 P neo-lsr boot problem

Hello all, I've got the following problem with my 875 P neo board:
The system fails to power on properly 95% of the time.
Sometimes the hdd inits and the nb fan goes on, sometimes it doesn't. The LED's gives either an keyboard controller or AGP initing display diagnostics message. The system never comes as far as lighting the display in the cases when it doesn't work. The system boots in 1 out of 10 cases so switching it on and off until it works is the only way to boot it.
When fully booted it works perfect though.
I've tried changing graphics card and keyboard but with no sucess, also tried setting the memory voltage to 2.70 with no real increase in sucessful boots.
Sometimes when the system actually boots it reports that the 'memory timings are set too tight, resetting' even thoyugh I've set the settings in the bios to 'slow', although it does not report this on all sucessfull boots.
    I've got the following specs:
    Pentium 4, 3000 Mhz, 800 FSB
TwinMOS 512 MB, PC3200, CL 2.5 RAM (Approved by MSI)
Super Flower / Le pont 420 W PSU (P4 approved)
    MSI 875P NEO-LSR
IBM 75GXP hdd (master on chain 1)
Asus CD-R (master on chain 2)
Asus GeForce 4 Ti4800SE 128 MB DDR 8x AGP graphics card (brand new)
    Keytronics brand new 'standard' keyboard
MS explorer optical 3.0 USB mouse
    BIOS rev 1.6
I've tried changing the graphics card and keyboard for other products from microsoft and gainward.
Anyone got any idea what could help me?
    Best regards =).

One thing that makes me wounder:
For some reason the multiplier is set to 203 x 15.0 when booted (according to corecenter), but in the bios it says 200 x 15.0 (with my 800 FSB 3 Ghz p4).
Now the thing that makes me wounder is why is it doing this as it results in a speed increase to 3043 mhz?
I should note that my P4's multiplier is locked and cannot be changed in the bios...
    I'm having the same ''problem''.
Are you currently using BIOS version 1.6?
Because with my BIOS version 1.2 nothing appeared to be wrong with the FSB and CPU/ memory clock.
Then I Flashed to v1.6 and it overclocked my system.
My CPU is now running at 3043MHz with a 811MHz FSB ( Core Center says 203*15) and my memory is also running at 811MHz.
Can you check the clocks of your graphics card? Because my Radeon 9800 Pro was running in v1.2 at stock speed (340MHz/380MHZ) and now with v1.6 at 351MHz/391MHz.
I don't mind about this ''overclocking'', but when it fu**s up my hardware I can't blame MSI because they are not responsible for overclocking X(

  • RAM update on my PT8 NEO-LSR

    Hi guys,
I want to update my memory and was wondering what RAM i should get. I have a P4 3.00Ghz and I hear that the minimum I should have is PC3200. I have seen some new ones about PC4000 etc and was wonderinif they would be compatible with my motherboard. Also another thing I'm not to sure about is if dual channel memory would be compatible to.
          Thanks

All of that info is in your manual.  You can download an electronic copy from msi's board pages.

problem with PT8 NEO Y VGA ATI SAPHIRE 9250SE

From the VGA test report: http://www.msi.com.tw/html/products/mainboard/testreport_pdf/6799/vga.pdf for the board , i can't find ATI Radeon 9250SE , but it is obvious that MSI only tested their Nvidia cards and no ATI cards. So, you'd better to try Nvidia cards or contact your VGA vendor to ask if there is the latest VGA BIOS to solve your issue.
Anyway, remember to tell us the results .

  • [PT880-Neo LSR]Power supply problem

    Hello,
We've installed the new motherboard today, it model is PT880 Neo LSR. Well we've got everything plugged in, but when we try to turn on our computer it doesn't turn on.
There is a case switch, but when turn on, the fans work for like 1 second then it stop.
I've tried the Troubleshooting guide on the website, and studying the Manual, but I could not find a way to fix this.
Can anyone help us fix this power supply problem please?

I only heard a sound psssst, and nothing run. I tested it many time and it still not work. Then I UNPLUG the 4-pin connector from the power supply to the mainboard, and test again, this time, only all the fan RUN except the the fan in the power supply DID NOT run. Is it because that the power supply got problem? I used another power supply 420w to test but nothing run either.

The psssst sound----sounds like something shorted out. Pull everything out and put it back in with a different PSU.
Don't put a hard drive or floppy in-----just CPU, RAM mobo, vid card, fans, PSU-----see if it will post.

  • Problem with msi pt8 neo-v and sata drive

hi, i have a hitachi 80gb sata2 drive( its configured to work as sata1 to work properly on the motherboard) and the msi pt8 neov motherboard, the problem is that the transfer mode is showing incorrectly on hdtune and everest plus it doesnt give the features right, like shown in the image below. everytime i open hdtune gives me a different transfer mode and features get ticked/unticked.
ive tried the disk on another pc i have and it shows info correctly so it cant be the hard drive, what could be causing this?
i have installed the hyperion 5.13a drivers and tried too with the microsoft drivers, still the same.
hope someone can help me out as is driving me crazy!
oh one last question, in bios settings i see the sata drive( just using one) as bbs-0(raid) HDS728080pla380 why is that? ive tried disabling "bootrom function" under Sata controller but then it wont recognize it, is there a way to change this??

SATA Transfer mode, it changes everytime i open hdtune AND features get ticked unticked everytime i open hdtune as well, like if transfer mode was changing constantly
Unless, you use your disk purely to benchmark, your transfer rates will dynamically change. As data is written to drive or removed.........
    Everything is working fine

  • Speedfan and PT8 Neo-v board

I have a PT8 neo-v board with a pentium 4 2.8 (800) processor and 512MB ram for which I am trying to use Speedfan to control the speed of the CPU fan. I have set speedfan up as instructed and it shows the speed percentage altering correctly as the CPU temperature changes but the fan speed does not change and is always the same at approximately 2200 RPM. I have no other fan connected to the board so it must be reading the CPU fan speed.
Does the board require any modifications in the bios to allow speedfan to alter the CPU fan speed or does this board not allow any alterations of the CPU fan speed?
I have a power supply that is rated at 30 amps on the 12 volt line but I noticed that the temperature graph on speedfan would suddenly drop by 5 degrees and then return immediately to the previous level. I logged the voltages, fan speed against the CPU temperature but there was no alterations in these when the temperature dropped. I am wondering wether to return this board for another make of board as I also have problems running the ram at DDR333 and these problems may be related to each other.

  • Where to find M.A.T. in BIOS of a 875P Neo LSR?

    Hi y'all!
    Currently I'm using:
    P4 3.0GHz 800MHz FSB
    2*512MB Kingston HyperX PC3200 CL2
MSI 875P Neo LSR (BIOS v1.6)
    I'm wondering where I can enable P.A.T. or MSI's M.A.T.?
After reading something about BIOS version 1.6 enabling M.A.T. , I flashed from 1.2 to 1.6.
But where can I find this new option in my BIOS??
    Thank's :]
    Best regards,
    Arjan

Okay... Okay... This is generally for MSI, no reason to take offence.. anyone. Or maybe just the guy who never used computer(apparently) but designed BIOS for this board.
I Have NEO FISR2 motherboard, and the problems I have seem to be something like people here have.
PAT isn't enabled if you overclock. What ever you do, Ultra Turbo or turbo.. nothing helps. Is there a reson for this?
If I drop memory to 333 and raise FSB, should the numbers in BIOS at memory speed show what it actually is, never have done so... And if I raise FSB and memory speed is at 400MHz why isn't PAT enabled, memory isn't overclocked?
If I try to change manually setting for memory, like cas etc... Should it do something, or are these there just for fun, so you could IMAGINE the effects on your board.
Almost all memory related settings are in BIOS for some other reason than adjusting setting on this motherboard, they don't affect anything. At least not for me. Maybe I was wrong thinking this board could be user for overclocking, those volt settings propably are there for show too. Nothing to do with overclocking, because you will never get everything out from this board. At least not if BIOS is working like this.
I did simple test, raised volt for memory to 2.90. Whopee. Raised FSB to 230, and left the memory setting at 400MHz. Changed by hand Cas setting to more relaxed ones.
Quess, which changes of these actually did something? FSB and Volts. For some unbelievably stupid reason board changes automatically both CAS(VERY RELAXED) settings and memory setting. Try Sandra, see for yourself.
Please, let me know if I'm doing something wrong, this is new board and new BIOS, maybe I'm missing something...
OR this is the most lamest try I have ever seen to put out decent BIOS. Nothing makes sense, thank you very much for wasting hours and hours of my time while I was trying to figure out why everything didn't work like I expexted, after all, there where so many "pretty buttons to press" that did nothing.

  • Unable to install WIndows98SE/Me in Neo LSR?

Hi to everybody.  I have a very strange problem.  Perhaps you can help me.
I never tested my Neo 875P with Windows 98 SE or ME.  I have installed Debian 3.0 sarge (the testing version) with kernel 2.6.3 and Windows XP SP1, without problems.  I used to had a Windows 2000 Server for testing purposes, without any problem.
Yesterday, I tried to install Windows 98 SE.  I did this some months ago, but didn't work because the mobo had 1GB of memory (M$ recognizes Win9x and Me can't run with more than 768MB of memory).  I thought it was the reason and give up.  But, today, I have 512MB of memory, and when I try to install Win98SE doesn't recognize ANYTHING (including chipset).  There is a big yellow warning in the ACPI part and, whe I double-clic it, the dialog says the ACPI driver can't be started because "the system says it has two ACPI buses, so try upgrading the BIOS"   I have AMI 2.0.
I think the BIOS isn't the reason, but Win98SE.  Probably the ACPI implementation in Win98SE is too old for understand the new ACPI version.
I tried WinME, but the effects is worst: it didn't make it after the second reboot.
Do you know the reason? Thanks in advance.
    My system:
    875P Neo-LSR, P4-2,40cGHz running at 3,12GHz (260MHz × 12)
512MB RAM in Wintec DDR333 (running at 173/346MHz)
    BIOS 2.0

Q:Can i use more than 512MB memory on Win9X or WinME?
A: No, you can't. You can only use more than 512MB memory on W2000 or WinXP.
Maybe its the same problem for the 875 boards.
Wrong you can use, (and tested upto 1.5Gb mem with Win 98Se or ME).
    15. Win9x “Out of Memory” error using 512MB and over
Win9X can use up to 2 gigs RAM memory but you will have to edit the system.ini file by adding MaxFileCache=256000 to fix the out of memory bug.
Click Start > Run type Sysedit.
Click the sysedit.ini tab scroll to the [vcache] section, if the section isn’t there, add it.
Add MaxFileCache followed by =25600 with no spaces so that it looks like this: MaxFileCache=256000.
    Also, check link: http://www.abxzone.com/forums/showthread/t-43835.html
The other thing, with Win98 not loading/installing. The proper way is to build system with Fat16 or 32 OS first and then place NTFS OS on for dual/multi boot.
    I'm sure this will help.

  • PT8 Neo limited overclocking?

Recently I bought the MSI PT8 Neo, I needed SATA and wanted FSB 800 so I could overclock my good old 1.6GHZ Northwood.
This was a bit of a bummer, the board doesn't allow me to overclock more then FSB 132. The problem is the bios detect it's a FSB 100 CPU and because of that the bios locks me to the max of FSB 132. CPU's with a FSB 133 are locked to a max of FSB 199.
Does anyone know how to bypas this "feature"?
I really wonder why msi did this, I know my cpu can run @ FSB 150 and I really want to get there but this mobo is holding me back. I have bios version V1.3

Now that is a Real Bummer , And until the BIOS Code is Changed (If it is Ever Changed) I'm afraid that there is no Work around for this , I am really Supprised that MSI has this "Low OC Limit" in their BIOS, But who knows Maybe VIA had something to do with it......But if I were you, I would go to the VIA Forums to take a Peak, on what their Members are doing to Circumvent this Roadblock so to speak....Maybe they have Discovered a Few tricks there  http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=1   ..................Sean REILLY875

  • [VIA Series] PT8 Neo-V JBAT1 pin positions - stupid question

Which end to count from - can't tell from the manuals. Is 1 at the end nearest the IDE connectors?
In one position (shorting pins farthest from the IDE connectors) nothing at all happens, in the other position I get through the bios to a blinking cursor on a blank screen.

    Okay - her's my spec:
    MSI PT8 Neo-V
    Pentium 4 2.53 533fsb Northwood
    Samsung 256MB DDR PC2100
    ATAPI DVDROM 16X
    TOSHIBA DVD-R-/DVD-RW-
    Seagate ST380021A 80GB 7200RPM
    NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440SE
Seasonic SS 300FS 300W Power Supply
    {+12v=15A,+3.3v=28A,+5.0v=30A}
All I did was change the motherboard from a VIA P4PB400 after an overheating problem (the processor fan broke due to build-up of dust - since then the PC was 'okay' but was cutting out after about 30 minutes use). I then tried a CPU upgrade on the VIA but it didn't support the Precott 2.4GHz I'd bought - so I went for the MSI board. I get the same symptoms with the MSI board using the Prescott - went back to the Northwood after seeing the power issues on your forum.
So - even if I unplug the DVDs and floppy - I get either nothing at all, or no hard drive boot (depending on the JBAT1 jumpers - hence I'd like to know which jumper is number 1).
