PT880 and System Control Utility

I do the Live Update feature with my two MSI boards-----great feature----wish ALL mobo companies had something like it!
Anyway----yesterday on my PT880 rig----it wanted me to update Live Update to Version 3.60 and now offers me another Utility called "System Control"
Neither of those are actually on MSI site in the PT880 motherboard download section.
Anybody know what "System Control" is or does??
I tried to load it but continued to get errors....
John

It shows up as a downloadable utility from within Live Update----when I do Live Monitor-----and it goes up to MSIs site and checks for latest Bios, drivers, and utilities.
I used to only be able to download eight different utilities, Core Center being one of them---LockBox, iSpeeder, GoodMem, WMI Viewer etc.
But now, two more are showing up----Playlist Editor and System Control.
And neither of those two show up in the actual download site for the PT880 Neo on the Taiwan site.  In fact----the Taiwan Site is showing the latest version of Live Update to be 3.58------and a message came across my screen recommending that I update Live Update to ver 3.60----which I did.
When I download and install System Control----I get a "Port not found" error---and it won't do anything.
Strange......

  • Help with Package Maker and System Image Utility

    Hi all....
Im trying to use package maker and System Image utility to create a netinstall image.  I dont know if im creating the package wrong, or if it has something to do with siu... but when I install the image from the server only the OS installs... not the packages.  The packages just get copied to the HD.
Right now im just working on trying to get office to install with the OS...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated...
    Thanks...

Just realized that you said the following:
The packages just get copied to the HD.
It sounds like you've made a installer package that's installing the installer packages.
If you simply double click the package you've created and install it, does it do the same thing? If so, then that's what you've done.

  • Tiger Disk Utility filled up target AND system disk, CANNOT reboot!

I used Apple Disk utility to securely erase free space on a target drive on my laptop. Disk Utility filled both my target disk and system disk (system disk was not even specified in the erase procedure). Both disks have ZERO bytes free. The System disk will NOT startup and I cannot use DiskWarrior to rebuild the directory cuz there is no space. Tried using terminal to rm temp files, but it did not see the system disk.
    *Problem Path:*
    1) Laptop (Leopard OS X current version) video stopped working. Likely known problem with Graphics card.
    2) Connected G5 (Tiger) to Laptop via Firewire with Laptop working in Target Disk mode (data only mode).
    3) Laptop disk showed up as a disk volume on G5.
    4) Used Apple disk utility on Tiger G5 to securely erase FREE disk space on Laptop disk drive B4 taking it in to get repairs. Amount to be securely erased was appr 65 to 70 GB.
    5) Left G5 Tiger disk utility to work overnight... had to interrupt next day. Restarted..
    6) Next day, the G5 disk utility said that it would be an est. 97 hours to complete. Stopped process.
    7) Both target disk and system disk showed that 0 bytes (yes, ZERO bytes free) were free on either drive.
    8) Attempted to restart with literature saying that you can restart Disk Utility as though it would delete temp files and start again. System could not be found (folder/face/folder/face showed on the screen)
*Attempted Solution:* (DW ~ DiskWarrior 4)
    1) Started system up using DW CD. System disk came up as unknown.
    2) Used Disk Warrior to rebuild directory on disk, but I believe that there is NO space at all. Disk Warrior took a very long time...more than an hour.
    3) Terminated DW (it was still verifying directory)
    4) Restarted system from Tiger install.
    5) Attempted to use Tiger Disk Utility to verify system disk (System still can see it, but won't mount it-- name is now disk1s3 or something like that). Disk Utility said that disk directory had problems and needed to be repaired. Ran the repair, but Disk Utility said that it could not be repaired.
    6) Quit Disk Utility and entered into the terminal to see if I could access the disk through unix commands. Access volumes from root. Only the other disk on the system showed up, not the system disk. So attempt to delete temporary files that MAY have been created by Disk Utility could not be done.
    7) Restarted system using DW. Drive showed up as Unknown. Clicked on [Apple key] rebuild to do scavenge function. Left it for two hours. Little to no change. Left it to work all night.
    HELP!
Will DiskWarrior use other volume on system or memory to save off or rebuild directory of bad drive? Anyone know of a utility that can help?
ANY HELP you can provide would be GREATLY appreciated. I have been put behind on research in my graduate studies and am in a terrible situation in now BOTH of my systems are inaccessible.

Hello HB3, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    8) Attempted to restart with literature saying that you can restart Disk Utility as though it would delete temp files and start again. System could not be found (folder/face/folder/face showed on the screen)
You really shouldn't use a lower OSes DU to work on a higher one.
    2) Used Disk Warrior to rebuild directory on disk, but I believe that there is NO space at all. Disk Warrior took a very long time...more than an hour.
    What version of DW?
Anyone know of a utility that can help?
If DiskWarrior can't fix it, you might try Data Rescue II...
    http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
(Has a Free Demo to see if it could or not, but you'll need another drive to recover to).
    Or FileSalvage...

to recover what you can, both can work when Disks are unmountable.

  • Can I create a system image with System Image Utility and then transfer the image folder to another server?

I am currently in the process of creating several images to restore for classroom purposes. I am wondering if it is possible to use the System Image Utility on a computer which has Server Admin Tools installed, then transfer that image folder directly to the "NetBoot" folder on our current Apple Netboot Server. Has anyone tried this and/or succeeded? I'd like to get some feedback before attempting it myself on our college's netboot server. Thanks!

We've run into a few problems concerning this process. When we create the image on a seperate machine from the server using SIU and then place it in the NetBoot folder, not every .nbi folder created works properly. We're running into errors that say "Could not find any scan information. The source needs to be imagescanned before it can be restored". This does not happen with every image, but it does happen with computers which have a lot of programs installed on them. Is there a way to imagescan the .nbi folder and/or resolve this issue without going through the process of making a completely new NetRestore image?

  • I upgraded to Mavericks and now some of my utilities --- such as disk utility and system information no longer work.

I upgraded to Mavericks and now some of my utilities --- such as disk utility and system information no longer work. I find Disk Utility useful and would like to have it. Doesn't Makericks include

Boot into your recovery partition (restart, hold down ⌘R until you see the Apple logo), and use Disk Utility to repair your hard drive. Repair permissions too while you're there. OS X: About OS X Recovery
If that doesn't work, I'd reinstall Mavericks over your current installation.

  • AIS (Audit Information Systems) and Process controls

    Dear Experts
Have you seen any customer using AIS (Audit Information Systems) and Process controls, simultaneously for Audit purposes? Can we use the GRC Process Controls for Scheduling regular Audits, inaddition to the Internal Control Assessments?
    Thanks & Regards
    Swarna

    Hi Swarna,
Have you seen any customer using AIS (Audit Information Systems) and Process controls, simultaneously for Audit purposes?
Yes. AIS is purely in SAP users and authorizations,  and PC can be used at different levels.
Can we use the GRC Process Controls for Scheduling regular Audits, inaddition to the Internal Control Assessments?
The data from the PC is used in the ICAs. So PC itself can't/may not provide all the information that is required by the auditors.

  • How can I make the volume buttons on my iPod Touch control ALL sounds - not just alerts and system sounds?

I would like to TOTALLY silence my iPod.  I turn the volume all the way down using the buttons on the side, but this just silences alerts and system sound effects.  Then I start a game, and the game sounds still play.  Of course I can turn the volume down after the game starts, but by then I'm already busted :-)
    I don't know if it's related, but...
I can plug in my headphones and then turn the game volume all the way down. But when I remove the headphones, the volume goes back up again.

  • Unable to initialize capture device and device control in HDV

I shot with a Sony HVR-Z1U/Z1N and am using a Sony HDV 1080i tape deck to digitize.
I recently purchased a MacBook Pro and installed FCP Pro 5 on it. After getting over some time code issues we were chugging along, when on the 4th tape the image on the log and capture screen suddenly dissapeared (I could get audio and could see the image on the tape deck). Well after taking the tape out, checking and rechecking it I popped it back in and ever since then, I have been getting this error mssg "Unable to initialize capture device and device control."
I have tried deleting the preferences and starting from scratch. If I do that, and choose the easy setup with HDV- 1080i60, it gives me this error "Unable to locate the following external devices- HDV (1440 X 1080) 30fps.
I upgraded to FCP 5.1.2 this morning and upgraded the OS to 10.4.7 and QT to 7.1.3 and still no change.
Im at my wits end, Ive been working on this for a whole week now.
    Thank you,
    Bugs

It has been reported to take more than one attempt to correct the installation but, if properly executed on a machine without other system problems, the QT reinstall process does work. The key element here is you must reinstall QT after you trash the receipts. The process is listed below.
    x
To do a full quicktime reinstall.
Go to /library/receipts and delete any files that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g. Quicktime703.pkg
Go to the Apple quicktime site and download the appropriate version of Quicktime to your hard drive.
    Run the Quicktime installer.
Repair Disk Permissions for your System Disk (Disk Utility > Select the system disk > Repair Disk Permissions)
    Reboot
If this doesn't work, then the problem lies elsewhere:
    1. your system - user preferences, firewire ports or other system elements.
    2. your equipment - camera/deck/firewire cables.
    3. your process - not setting up the software properly or using the software erroneously.
Listed below is a troubleshooting process. Not all steps are appropriate but the general process of isolating the problem is useful.

  • Does OS installed through boot camp or in virtual machine has access and full control of the peripherals like native OS X Lion?

I am planning to buy new PC for my faculty needs and this time I am thinking to buy Apple laptop like Mac book Pro 13" or so ( I owe already IPhone and Ipad 2)
To make final decision I need few information . These are:
    1. May I use Boot Camp or similar utility software to install Windows 7 OS next to OS X Lion, or use some kind of virtual box software to create virtual machines with diverse guest OS in them like Windows , Linux etc.?
    2. Does OS installed through Boot camp or in virtual machine has access and full control of the peripherals like native OS X Lion?
    3. May I use the same disk partitions to access to the files regardless if I am using Windows 7 or OS X Lion operating system?
    4. Is there full compatibility between Microsoft Office under OS X Lion and Windows 7 M. Office?
    5. What is general user experience with OS X Lion operating system comparing to Windows 7?

    1. Yes. You can install Windows 7 natively using Boot Camp Assistant or you can install Windows 7 in a virtual machine using Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox
    2. If installed using Boot Camp Assistant Windows 7 uses all your computer's resources just as OSx does. If installed using a VM Windows 7 will share the computer's resources with OSx.
    3. A Boot Camp partition is separate from the OSx partition. The VMs allow sharing of files across partitions since both OS are running at the same time.
    4. No, not 100%.
    5. Too broad a question. Be specific about what feature you are asking about or search the Internet for comparisons. I use both and find they both work well.

  • Accidentally uninstalled System Control Manager

I accidentally uninstalled my System Control Manager and now the Fn+Function keys are not working, like the track pad disable, ECO setting, all don't work. • Windows 8 & System Control Manager (SCM)

For those of you wondering how to enable/disable WiFi, Bluetooth and other devices, SCM will do the trick.
These pictures are based on version 10.012.11014.
Enter the control panel via the system tray. Right click the blue icon (shown top right in the picture) and click Control Panel. Once there just click the device to enable/disable it.
If your SCM does not show the control panel option, you'll need to update SCM. Check the utility segment of your notebook on the website for the latest version.

  • System Control Manager on Mega 865 Pro

    Hi,
I Have a Mega 865 Pro, I would list whats in it but do not consider that any of this would help.
The system has the System Control Manager software installed which allows for you to use the buttons on the front of the system within Windows XP, if the software is not installed or running then one of the problems is when you use the CD eject key the system will restart.
The software runs normally on my account where I'm an admin.  However, if I have any other accounts running then the software will not run with the following message.
    MGSYSCTRL
    Detecting Model type failed!
You may not run this program correctly
Can anyone assist in making sure that I do not give my kids admin access under Windows XP?
    Thanks
    Rob

    Update.
This has now been resolved by performing the following.
1, Download the bios update using the link below, the MSI update utility never reconised that there was a newer version of the bios available.
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=602&kind=4
This fixed the reboot issues when using the eject cdrom button!!
2, The System Control Manager cannot be used under a non admin account, this was corrected by performing the following.
export from mthe registry, and then delete:-
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "MGSysCtrl"="C:\\Program Files\\MSI\\System Control Manager\\MGSysCtrl.exe"
    And Change to:-
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "MGSysCtrl"="C:\\Program Files\\MSI\\System Control Manager\\MGSysCtrl.exe"
Then run the new on the Admin account only.
Hope this helps some of you!

  • Arch System Config Util.

    Hi guys,
I started today to make a Arch System Configuration Utility, Now its very basic
and i got alot ideas on how to expand the program with more functions. It is
a basic text editor which lets you config the most important Arch config files on the fly.
The program was born because i as a light desktop user got fed up opening the same
old same old files over and over again in my FM, so whit this thingy i can open them on the fly.
There are probebly half a dozen more config files i could place in the app but this is just
    the bare beginning.Hers the screeny:
It is very small and uses GTK.
    http://www.mediafire.com/?fwh3gzxxiuy
    here is the DL link.
I am planning for this program to make it able to start, stop, restart services and display a bunch of system stats really not sure yet
if you have suggestions post To be able to save the files you must  run it as root eg, sudo
    Enjoy..

    Hey guys,
To reply some words to the people placing comments on this little app.
If i hadn't seen the topic of this treat i would never have posted it, i am sorry
if that offended some people because that was and would be never be my intention
also i am not a real dev , this is stuff written in gambas2 LOL. its for fun.
I just wanted to share something i worked on for personal use that maybe
people could think of as semi usefull.
This little project was just a thing to keep me bussy and get used to the Gambas2
    IDE, that being said:
I am still working on this thing and wont post any of it anymore before i think it would
be even worthy of making a PKGBUILD for (which might never happen), and then this:
the source that gambas2 gives  can (to my best knowledge) only be compiled with the
gambas2 IDE), Just saw it CAN make a source archive just not sure to what extent this can be
compiled with gcc Thats wy i was posting the stand alone binary files.
Anyway in the version that has not been posted:
    * Combo drop down box to have a look at the most used log files on arch linux. (finished)
    * Search box + filter to search for keywords in the currently displayed log files and  a
a filter SO displaying only the lines in log files i am looking for (being worked on atm)
    * Controls and drop down box with to the most common system services one would mostly want
to start, stop or restart) (being worked on atm, controls already done)
    * A small CLI window under the text output box , to catch the output of the systems services
start / stop / restart (being worked on, CLI running but working on the piping of the commands to it)
    * Resizing of the hole application without buggering up the positions of the buttons on top and
       botton (finished)
this is what it looks like atm.

  • Safari 5.1, OS 10.6.8 and cookie controls

Ok, I know there are numerous threads here in the Mac Safari forum regarding the issue of Safari 5.1 and cookie control. I just thought I would start my own thread instead of continuing on something else.
I am using Safari 5.1 and 10.6.8. I waited for a bit to update to 5.1 (did it this week), giving it since its debut on July 20th. I too am experiencing the lack of cookie controls. The three settings that exists do not seem to do what they say except that they always allow cookies.  To update from Safari 505, I downloaded the installer from Apple downloads instead of using SU function.
Has anyone read something that Apple knows of this issue?
Since installing Safari 5.1, I have done the last security update as well.
I remember reading that reinstalling the 1.1 version of the 10.6.8 combo would replace Safari 5.1 with 505. But, has anyone tried that? Will Safari 5.1 show up in software update as well as the last security update? I am wondering if I reapply that combo if it will undo the last security fix as well (since I am assuming software update will still see the receipt for the previous ones and not call for them to be redone).
If all cookies are coming through, isn't this a serious bug?  I have been resetting safari often to wipe them out, but they reoccur switftly.  I have to MBP's and am seeing the same behaviour on both.

I'd use that terminal command - takes seconds (and a restart) + no download. But otherwise yes - the 10.6.8 v1.1 then the update & anything else software update picks up (not safari, obviously )
Some people happily get a copy of just the safari 5.0.5 application & use that, since apparently it works, although I'm not sure what cookie function you'll get (easy enough to see). You'd use Pacifist to extract it from the 5.0.5 installer package, or grab it from a backup.
Although you'd hope software update would catch the security change - I'm not sure if the combo would overwrite the new or not... on the one hand, it's newer, but on the other, it sure over-wrote safari 5.1 when i checked it... so better to be sure, I haven't checked since that update.
If you look at the files in /System/Library/Keychains/ afterwards - if EVRoots.plist, SystemRootCertificates.keychain, and SystemTrustSettings.plist are all dated 23 April 2011, the combo rolled them back - if they're later... it didn't.
Apple do know, since bug reports come back as 'duplicate of...' - but  there's no public info to my knowledge.
How much of a security issue is this? Should I worry about it, or just leave it until they update to fix?
more privacy than real security, I'd say - although there are add-ons to manage cookies.
