and it says the other slots are emepy but i got a nother stick in them
power supply is a 550w so i dont thinks thats the prob i tryed messing with all the memory settings in bios still nothen i dont know what else to do

you have a few choices...
But before anything, the BKM of this forum, read the  Moan Guide.
OK, here's your choices:
1. run  Memtest86 check  if your RAM is faulty.
2. RMA the board.

  • PT880 Neo-FSR not booting from SATA device

    Hi everybody!
    MSI PT880 Neo-FSR http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=608
As read on the topic subject, I'm having trouble trying to boot up using my new SATA DVD-RW. This device works perfect while running Windows XP on my PC, but when I try to boot from it, I simply can't.
My PT880 Neo-FSR mobo is running the latest avalaible BIOS version (2.0) and Internal SATA controller and SATA boot ROM function are enabled. Looking inside the booting options, I just can't set my SATA DVD-RW as a valid device for booting up (I only see my IDE HDDs, FDD and LAN as booting options).
This is my first time triying to boot up from this SATA device and the first time I realized that I can actually use it for anything but booting, which is so weird! I even tried installing this device on my brother's PC and booted up succesfully there, so my mobo is the problem here.
If you're asking yourselves how I installed Win XP on this PC with no CD/DVD booting: My former IDE DVD-RW is now my sister's, so I kept previously instalation and just changed devices.
I need to run some utlities from a boot-CD and re-install Windows on this PC real soon, so I'd appreciate some help.
P.S. I tried to do my best with my 'rusty' English, so I hope you could fully understad what I've written above.

Are you saying it does work but you simply can't boot from it? Have you tried by using the F11 boot menu?
Yes! This device has been working great, but the only problem I get is when I try to use it for booting.
I alredy tried using the F11 boot menu and nothing happened... It's so weird!

  • PT880 NEO FSR and Audigy 2 ZS

Has anyone with this motherboard been able to get this card working without constant and annoying crackling/stuttering during gameplay? I've tried everything mentioned on the Creative forums to resolve the issues I'm having, but nothing has worked. I'm starting to think it's the motherboard chipset.

He's running the card with no problems with a weaker PSU than I have. The only difference is he's running BIOS version 1.9 and I can't get anyting other than 1.6 to run stable on my computer. When he originally replied that he was having no problems with the card, he was also running BIOS 1.6.

  • GBLAN failure on MSI PT880 NEO-FSR

On a newly built system using the MSI PT880 NEO-FSR I am experiencing intermittent and frequent disconnects from my LAN.  I have tested with both Win2000 and WinXP.  When the system boots, I generrally get an IP address and gateway address.  If I start a continuous ping on another host, after a short while I start receiving "Hardware Error"messages, and Destination host unreachable.  Ny IP in most cases is still good, however sometimes it reverts to autonet.  If I do ping successfully for a while and start IE, it fails immediately.  I have the link with another system, and it works fine...Any ideas?

  • Pt880 Neo Fsr Xp Install Probs

    hi
just bought a new pt880 neo-fsr(7043-020) and a 512 ocz dual ddr kit.
i am running a northwood 2.4ghz/533(not overclocked yet) cpu and an ati 256mb 9550 video card(8x agp).450 watt psu with 20amp 12v rail
my problem is when i try and install windows xp-pro i get an error"the bios is not acpi compatible" the board has bios 1.6 installed out of the box.
    everything else seems ok.
has anyone seen this before and can they post or email me a few pointers.
    thanks,jeff

So, you were able to finish off the Windows installation ? No hangs at the bios-message ?
Bios 1.6 should be sufficient but try with latest 1.7 biosversion.
When you reinstall WinXP - check that ACPI is enabled in bios before installing OS.
If you have an ACPI BIOS, but Windows XP Professional is not installed in the ACPI mode, your ACPI BIOS might be noncompliant. Check with your computer manufacturer to see if a more recent, ACPI-compatible BIOS is available. If Windows XP Professional is installed in non-ACPI mode on your computer, and you upgrade to a new BIOS version, you must reinstall Windows XP Professional to enable ACPI mode.

  • [VIA Series] PT880 Neo-FSR...SOOOO ANGRY!

    Hi all,
I bought my PT880 Neo-FSR around late January/early February and until recently I hadn't been doing anything too memory intensive. Recently I bought World of Warcraft and have had many crashes. First it was tolerable, then when it got really bad i thought it was Blizzard's fault. I checked their boards and went throught their steps to rectify. One of which was the memtest86.
I ran the memtest and found that my Corsair was bad, both sticks! So i tried some Kingston. All of it also bad. 7 sticks of memory. I thought, "There's no way that could be right." So I ran memtest on another computer, a cheapie eMachine. Every piece of memory i had was A-ok. I thought i'd get a third PC involved for a final say. I ran the memtest again (mulitple passes each time mind you) and again no errors.
I came here to see if anyone else had a similar problem, and yeah. But no solution for me. This is pretty much my hail-mary. I'd really like help from someone more knowledgeable than myself. I really do not want to buy a new mobo, but WoW is a subscription game...i'd really like to play it as well as edit video, or record stuff with my video card.
If you have any solutions for me PLEASE, I really need help. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

ConeJodc, it's not your memory.  Some will tell you it's your pwr supply, some will tell you to change your ddr voltage... it's none of that.  This mobo is crap in my opinion because it's got the VIA name on it.  Everything I've ever owned that had a VIA chipset eventually blew up (usually it was crap to begin with).
See my latest update in my post regarding this motherboard.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=79880.0
The same memory that tested bad in my PT880 Neo-FSR runs perfectly fine in my new 865PE Neo2.
Return it if you can and get the intel based 478 board.

  • MSI-7043 (PT880 NEO-FSR) Boot Problem

I just installed this motherboard which I purchased on eBay from someone who swears it was working fine before.
I installed it in the following configuration:
    MSI-7043 PT880 NEO-FSR Motherboard (Rev. 2.0) with BIOS version 2.0
RaidMax Scorpio case with a 520-Watt RaidMax Power Supply (its older, but digital P/S tester says everything is OK)
2x1Gig SuperTalent DDR400 RAM <- Was working fine in Compaq PC
Intel P4 2.4Ghz Prescott CPU (FSB533) <- Was working fine in Compaq PC
ThermalTake TR2-M12 CPU cooler <- New
LG DVD-RW Lightscribe 22x IDE Drive <- New 2 weeks ago, was working fine in Compaq PC
Seagate 320 Gig IDE Drive <- 2 Monthes old, was working fine in Compaq PC
    (Drive is partitioned 1-250Gig Bootable & 1-70Gig)
Chaintech Nvidia FX5200 AGP Video Card <- Worked fine in Compaq PC
High quality round 80-pin IDE cables
No SATA drives installed at all
The system POST's fine and recognizes all installed drives, but only occasionally will boot to CD-ROM, and will never boot to hard disk, just sits there with a flashing cursor. When it did boot into CD-ROM, I was able to boot Linux and browse hard drive fine. Booted once into MEMTEST and it ran for hours fine with no errors.
I have tried defaulting BIOS several times, tried several configurations for boot sequence and using F11 Boot Menu. No matter what I do, booting from CD is hit and miss (1 out of 4 times will boot) and it will NEVER boot from the hard drive.
Interesting thing is if I disconnect the hard disk, it will boot to the CD-ROM EVERY time (sort of), but I do have to wait until it says no boot record found on CD or floppy, then press ENTER to try again it boots
After searching for through other posts, I have tried increasing the DDR RAM voltage to 2.6v with no change.
Any ideas??? is there a BIOS limitation to the boot partition size of the hard drive, if so why would this affect booting to the CD?

Ummm... never had that trouble before... It should at least start booting, or at least recognize the boot sector has a valid boot record.
Those are all valid ideas, and I appreciate the input.
BTW, I am not a newbie. I am a telecom, network, and computer technician with almost 20 years of experience. This is just the first time I have had a problem with MSI boards, I use them all the time and they generally work flawlessly. I understand operating system licensing, OEM versions, 32 vs 64 bit, and how to copy files from one drive to another using multiple different ways. I was just hoping that there was something simple going on that I was missing that someone would just say "Yeah, turn XXXXX feature off in the BIOS".
I put an older 48x CD-ROM drive and a Western Digital 40 Gig in it and it worked beautifully, in the middle of installing Kubuntu Linux right now.
I actually resized the boot partition down to 130 Gig with Linux Parted Magic and it booted OK.
I think I actually had two problems with the previous setup:
    1) Boot partition was too large for the BIOS, the entire partition should not exceed the 134 Gig boundry (different sites say anything from 130-138 Gig) for the BIOS on the motherboard according to some articles I googled.
    2) The LG DVD-RAM drive was just too slow spinning up for the bios to recognize the boot partition on the CD or DVD.
I resized the partition back up to 250 Gig and put the DVD-RAM, Hard Disk, Processor, RAM, and video card back into the Compaq, it is a fast (by standards of the day) and stable machine, I was just looking for a way to add some expansion capabilities for more PCI cards and possibly a SATA drive. Anyway put a 2.0 Ghz Celeron, 768 Meg of DDR266 RAM, a CD-RW drive, and a Matrox G450 Dual-Head 32 Meg AGP card I had laying around in place of of the old and will just delegate this to a Linux box.
So far all seems fine, think I will just hold off putting too much into this machine since I was planning on building a new one this summer after USB 3.0 came out.
    Thanks.

[nForce] K7N2 D2-FSR cant get in window after manual setting

I'm a bit of a noob at o/c so not sure I can give you sound advice.
pci is unlocked I think, though if use core centre then you can control it-I'm not using corecentre.
are you using priority 10 for prime 95 and In-place FFT's torture test?  I believe that is most demanding.  If you getting reboots then you're overclock is not stable, need to lower fsb and retest.  Your psu is probably marginal as well so maybe that isn't quite strong enough to be pushed further.  Can you try beefier one?
I don't know how far you can push vcore up; maybe one of our resident experts can advice.
I started out on this journey with exact problem you faced; I couldn't change High Performance mode from optimised to manual.  I still haven't found a solution unless I enable DOT.  I've tried bios b5, b6.1 and now trying b6.0, without success.  O/S fails to load.  Did you say b3  allowed you do to that and increase fsb in bios or was it change of memory?  I'm thinking my expensive ram is not very flexible and doesn't suit the nforce 2 chipset.  At moment with bios b60, high performance manual,  memory to manual (2-2-2-11) and DOT enabled-private I passed memtest overnight.  I'll try prime95 tonight if I have no issues tday.

  • PT880 NEO-FSR always needs to autodect hard drive

I have a new PT880 NEO-FSR motherboard which takes 30 seconds to autodetect the harddrives every bootup.
In the bios, it recognizes my hard drive but does not seem to keep it stored and upon rebooting displays "autodecting pri hard drive..press to abort". This happens every time I boot.
I have an u-ata 100 Western Digital hard drive that I've stuck on other systems and had no problem.
My experience with other motherboard/bios is that when I set autodetect in the bios, it recognizes my hard drive, stores that value and upon rebooting does not need to autodetect my hard drive once more.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

manually set the HDD specs, the heads, sectors, and stuff are printed on the disk itself, i almost never use auto detect because it can slow down boot time.

  • PT880 Neo-FSR P4 3.2G with HyperX HELP

I have been reading the forum for 2 days now    and I'm still unable to find a solution to my problem.  I have tried every suggestion I've found in this forum with no success.  So, as a software dude I'm not the best hardware guy and I'm requesting help from any hardware guru in here.
    Problem:
PC reboots constantly or locks up or blue screens this started after I loaded WinXP pro SP2.
    Setup:
    PT880 Neo-FSR (7043)
    P4 3.2G
    Kingston HyperX KHX3200A/512R
    SATA 250GB HD
    Tried Solutions:
    1.  Changing DRAM voltage ranging from 2.6v - 8v (problem got worse or persisted)
    2.  Tried running in different turbo modes. (problem got worse or persisted)
    3.  Tried changing DRAM clock to all kinds of settings.. (problem got worse or persisted)
    4.  Did not try changing any DRAM timing cause I'm not sure of the effect...
    5.  Upgraded BIOS rev to 2.0 in hoping to fix the issue.  (no effect on problem)
    6.  Will contact Kingston next week for recommendations.
Thanks in advance for any help suggested besides purchasing new RAM

Have you tried update the VIA drivers?
