PT880 Neo Series Motherboard Issue

I have recently replaced my old motherboard a P4PB-400-FL with a PT880 Neo Series motherboard MS-7008 Version 1. The problem i am having is in reguards to my video card which is a G4 TI4600 128 mb 4x 2.0, my benchmarks have been cut in half since the new motherboad was installed. Is this a issue anybody else is having? I do not overclock my video card so i have no clue as to why the benchmarks have been cut in half.
System Specs....
P4 3.06 HT 533FSB
1024 PC2700 DDR 333 - Single Channel
WINDOWS XP PRO
400 W ANTEC POWER SUPPLY
G4 TI4600 128 MB 4X 2.0
Current video card driver: Nivida 56.64
Direct X version: 9.0b

There seems to be an issue with the Latest VIA 4in1 Drivers, as I have seen this Problem with Both the INTEL and The AMD Based VIA Boards. Is there any way you can Roll back to the previous Version of the VIA 4-1 Drivers....Also Are you sure that your Vidio Card is Running in 4XAGP Mode?.....If I were you, I would Go to  http://www.guru3d.com and download the NVHardpage Utility, as I see that you are Running the 56.64 Drivers, and if you run this NVhardpage you will be able to Enable "Hidden" Features for your Cards Drivers, such as "CoolBits Oveclocking", "AGP Options" "Performance Options" and "Hardware Options", and once you enable these Options in NVHardpage, you will then see that you have the Extra Tabs in your regular NVIDIA Driver Panel ...You will also have the Option to Enable Disable BOTH "Fast-Writes" and "Sideband-Addressing" ............Let us Know how you make out............Sean REILLY875

  • MSI 848P Neo Series MS-6788 Model

    Hi,
I'm new to building PCs and I have just built a P4 2.8GHz 800FSB Machine with an 848P Neo Series motherboard.
    I have a few issues:
I cannot use a PS2 mouse it simply will not work.
With my PS2 keyboard, turning on num lock or caps lock causes the PC to lock up.
Is there some sort setting in the BIOS I need to change or is the board faulty?
Another issue I had which has now magically fixed itself - when I turned the pc on, I had to turn num lock on and then off to get the monitor to come off standby and to get the pc to start booting - any ideas?
Could you please help with with these problems as I don't have long to return the motherboard if it is faulty.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Maggioni,
Look on side on PSU.....somewhere the will be the different "Rails".... list 12V,3.3V,5V, in AMPS. IE- 12V+ = 20A etc.
Hmmm, as for Keyboard.....is it a standard 105 or 102? Maybe, it is an enhanced with extra keys? Wireless or Corded. (If wireless....try changing the batteries)
Also try changing keyboard....borrow or buy a budget one.

  • MSI-7043 (PT880 NEO-FSR) Boot Problem

I just installed this motherboard which I purchased on eBay from someone who swears it was working fine before.
I installed it in the following configuration:
    MSI-7043 PT880 NEO-FSR Motherboard (Rev. 2.0) with BIOS version 2.0
RaidMax Scorpio case with a 520-Watt RaidMax Power Supply (its older, but digital P/S tester says everything is OK)
2x1Gig SuperTalent DDR400 RAM <- Was working fine in Compaq PC
Intel P4 2.4Ghz Prescott CPU (FSB533) <- Was working fine in Compaq PC
ThermalTake TR2-M12 CPU cooler <- New
LG DVD-RW Lightscribe 22x IDE Drive <- New 2 weeks ago, was working fine in Compaq PC
Seagate 320 Gig IDE Drive <- 2 Monthes old, was working fine in Compaq PC
    (Drive is partitioned 1-250Gig Bootable & 1-70Gig)
Chaintech Nvidia FX5200 AGP Video Card <- Worked fine in Compaq PC
High quality round 80-pin IDE cables
No SATA drives installed at all
The system POST's fine and recognizes all installed drives, but only occasionally will boot to CD-ROM, and will never boot to hard disk, just sits there with a flashing cursor. When it did boot into CD-ROM, I was able to boot Linux and browse hard drive fine. Booted once into MEMTEST and it ran for hours fine with no errors.
I have tried defaulting BIOS several times, tried several configurations for boot sequence and using F11 Boot Menu. No matter what I do, booting from CD is hit and miss (1 out of 4 times will boot) and it will NEVER boot from the hard drive.
Interesting thing is if I disconnect the hard disk, it will boot to the CD-ROM EVERY time (sort of), but I do have to wait until it says no boot record found on CD or floppy, then press ENTER to try again it boots
After searching for through other posts, I have tried increasing the DDR RAM voltage to 2.6v with no change.
Any ideas??? is there a BIOS limitation to the boot partition size of the hard drive, if so why would this affect booting to the CD?

Ummm... never had that trouble before... It should at least start booting, or at least recognize the boot sector has a valid boot record.
Those are all valid ideas, and I appreciate the input.
BTW, I am not a newbie. I am a telecom, network, and computer technician with almost 20 years of experience. This is just the first time I have had a problem with MSI boards, I use them all the time and they generally work flawlessly. I understand operating system licensing, OEM versions, 32 vs 64 bit, and how to copy files from one drive to another using multiple different ways. I was just hoping that there was something simple going on that I was missing that someone would just say "Yeah, turn XXXXX feature off in the BIOS".
I put an older 48x CD-ROM drive and a Western Digital 40 Gig in it and it worked beautifully, in the middle of installing Kubuntu Linux right now.
I actually resized the boot partition down to 130 Gig with Linux Parted Magic and it booted OK.
I think I actually had two problems with the previous setup:
    1) Boot partition was too large for the BIOS, the entire partition should not exceed the 134 Gig boundry (different sites say anything from 130-138 Gig) for the BIOS on the motherboard according to some articles I googled.
    2) The LG DVD-RAM drive was just too slow spinning up for the bios to recognize the boot partition on the CD or DVD.
I resized the partition back up to 250 Gig and put the DVD-RAM, Hard Disk, Processor, RAM, and video card back into the Compaq, it is a fast (by standards of the day) and stable machine, I was just looking for a way to add some expansion capabilities for more PCI cards and possibly a SATA drive. Anyway put a 2.0 Ghz Celeron, 768 Meg of DDR266 RAM, a CD-RW drive, and a Matrox G450 Dual-Head 32 Meg AGP card I had laying around in place of of the old and will just delegate this to a Linux box.
So far all seems fine, think I will just hold off putting too much into this machine since I was planning on building a new one this summer after USB 3.0 came out.
    Thanks.

  • K8T Neo Series JUSB connecting

    Hello,
While cleaning op my case, and hiding all cabled to optimize my airflow I accidentally ripped out the connectors of the 2nd JUSB connector on my MSI K8T Neo series Motherboard. I first thougt It was made out of 1 connector, but unfortunatly they were about 10 tiny connectors.
that JUSB connector is for my front-side USB 2.0 connectors.
I know how to reconnect them, but I don't know in which order.
They are all different colors and are labled:
2x 'GND' each in an other color, 2x 'Power' each in an other color, ....
I checked my motherboard's  "quick user's guide", about those JUSB connectors, where they gice the correct oreder. My Problem is that the lables in the Manual aren't the same as the labels on the tiny connectors.
Does anyone has the correct order, maybe in color, so that I can reconnect them in a proper way?
    Thank you very much,
    Hans.

  • Pt880 Neo will not boot. Help please

Here is my setup.  I just picked up a brand new msi pt880 neo series and a p4. 2.8 fsb800/1mbcache.
I was current using a ati 9800 pro and crucial 512 pc3200 ram. i installed two  maxtor 160g hd and i was going to run raid in a pci slot raid controller.  so far i know the ram works and the video card and the one of the hd.  My power supply supports up to 400watts. I have a btc dvd burner, floppy and a liteon dvd rom.  im also running 4 fans.
My problem is that when i turn it on, it powers up but nothing else works.  On the D-bracket 2 i get 4 red lights lite up and nothing else.
Im stuck and not sure what to do now? Is it my mb or chip or a combination of things? Thank you very much for your time.

    Heya,-
Sounds interesting enough to me aswell... I had the same problems with my Mobo too... But it turned out to be the CPU. Intel has release some 'C' versions of that 2.8GHz CPU, which might be some scaled-down Extreme Edition CPU's or even a down-graded Prescott CPU.
So what I needed for my mobo to get it work was:
    - Updated BIOS version
    - Another CPU (working) to get the new BIOS version on my mobo...
The shop that helped me, gave me some information from Intel. You can check your exact type of CPU in their website... They gave me the link to the Intel P4 CPU Specification Update. And in that document on page 17 I found out that my CPU with package ID: SL6Z5 is in fact a down-graded Extreme Edition CPU, and should have been sold as a tray-CPU, and not as a boxed CPU... DAMN INTEL!... But anyway, they gave me a headache and some nights of incredible sleeplessness...
Just for your information... This is how I found out that it was my CPU causing all this problem:
    - Assemble the system with only mainboard and PSU (no memory, no vga, no keyboard)
    - Connect the CPU fan to see if the system will start running
    - Turn-on the system and see if the CPU fan will keep running
    - Shut down the system
    - Insert the CPU
    - Turn-on the system again... If it fails on your CPU, it should shutdown after 5 seconds...
    > To find out if it's related to any of your other peripherals, insert all the things step by step (first memory, then vga, etc...) and see if your system will fail on any of these peripherals.
It just might turn out to be a harddisk that's drawing too much current from your power-supply....
ANyway, just to share some thoughts! Good luck!

  • PT880 NEO-FSR always needs to autodect hard drive

I have a new PT880 NEO-FSR motherboard which takes 30 seconds to autodetect the harddrives every bootup.
In the bios, it recognizes my hard drive but does not seem to keep it stored and upon rebooting displays "autodecting pri hard drive..press to abort". This happens every time I boot.
I have an u-ata 100 Western Digital hard drive that I've stuck on other systems and had no problem.
My experience with other motherboard/bios is that when I set autodetect in the bios, it recognizes my hard drive, stores that value and upon rebooting does not need to autodetect my hard drive once more.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

manually set the HDD specs, the heads, sectors, and stuff are printed on the disk itself, i almost never use auto detect because it can slow down boot time.

  • [VIA Series] Can't get dual channel on P4 3.2 HT MSI PT880 Neo ?????

When I boot up it says 64 bit single channel, this is confirmed by CPU-Z.
    I bought  2 PQI 3200 512 DAH Dual channel memory sticks (Identical) bought in a single package ($159.00) when I got this Mobo and  machine ,  originally Fry's installed them in slot 1 and 2,javascript:void(0);
    noidea
I've moved them to slot 2 and 3 which accordinhg to the hand book and what I've seen in forums  should enable the dual channel mode. Still single channel.  I've set the bios to force dual mode and still I'm in single mode. I don't know if this is related but anytime I've ever tried to use top perfromance or best performance settings in BIOs it won't reboot and I have to clear the CMOS so no overclocking for me...... I have the latest Bios version 2.0,   just updated that from 1.90 todayand all the latest VIA drivers etc.

I wondered why Sandra said my memory was choking my processor. Its 800 FSB and HT is enabled. In addition, I have frequent BSOD issues, IRQ less or not equal, pagefile in non paged area, I just want to play some battlefield without getting kicked to desk top or boot.....
Other question, sitting here typing this and my CPU temp is 46 C.
Any help would be appreciated, I'm not sure what I've missed and I'm a noob at this stuff, would increasing the voltaqe help????

The online manual for the PT880 NEO-FSR says slots 1 and 3 are used for dual channel.
I don't know about the Via chipsets, but the Intel chipsets need the DDR voltage set to at least 2.65 for stable operation.

  • [VIA Series] PT880 Neo-FSR...SOOOO ANGRY!

    Hi all,
I bought my PT880 Neo-FSR around late January/early February and until recently I hadn't been doing anything too memory intensive. Recently I bought World of Warcraft and have had many crashes. First it was tolerable, then when it got really bad i thought it was Blizzard's fault. I checked their boards and went throught their steps to rectify. One of which was the memtest86.
I ran the memtest and found that my Corsair was bad, both sticks! So i tried some Kingston. All of it also bad. 7 sticks of memory. I thought, "There's no way that could be right." So I ran memtest on another computer, a cheapie eMachine. Every piece of memory i had was A-ok. I thought i'd get a third PC involved for a final say. I ran the memtest again (mulitple passes each time mind you) and again no errors.
I came here to see if anyone else had a similar problem, and yeah. But no solution for me. This is pretty much my hail-mary. I'd really like help from someone more knowledgeable than myself. I really do not want to buy a new mobo, but WoW is a subscription game...i'd really like to play it as well as edit video, or record stuff with my video card.
If you have any solutions for me PLEASE, I really need help. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

ConeJodc, it's not your memory.  Some will tell you it's your pwr supply, some will tell you to change your ddr voltage... it's none of that.  This mobo is crap in my opinion because it's got the VIA name on it.  Everything I've ever owned that had a VIA chipset eventually blew up (usually it was crap to begin with).
See my latest update in my post regarding this motherboard.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=79880.0
The same memory that tested bad in my PT880 Neo-FSR runs perfectly fine in my new 865PE Neo2.
Return it if you can and get the intel based 478 board.

  • PT880 Neo resuses to boot after updated BIOS 1.8

    Hello, I've got a problem:
I updated the BIOS of a PT880 Neo motherboard using 1GB of RAM and a P4 3.0E processor. The system now powers on, beeps as if to indicate a successful POST, but then I get nothing. I'm wondering what can be done to troubleshoot this issue, as it was working fine before I flashed it. If I need a Northwood cored P4 to do the job I have one I could try, but what needs to be done and has anyone encountered this issue before? thanks!

thats already been done, no effect.
I should state that I had successfully rebooted the system once, messed around with some non-critical system settings (after resoring defaults) and rebooted, then it just didn't come back. I power cycle the system between the BIOS update and messing with the settings though...but I do remember seeing the CoreCell logo which wasn't there before the BIOS upgrade.
I'm at a loss for ideas... help!

  • PT880 NEO FSR and Audigy 2 ZS

Has anyone with this motherboard been able to get this card working without constant and annoying crackling/stuttering during gameplay? I've tried everything mentioned on the Creative forums to resolve the issues I'm having, but nothing has worked. I'm starting to think it's the motherboard chipset.

  • NForce 500 series motherboard compatibili

I've been doing a little bit of searching and found that the nForce 4 series motherboards have probelms with X-Fi sound cards.
I plan on buying an X-Fi Platnium for my new Core 2 Duo set up and would like to know if the incompatibility (sound crackling?) issue is still present with newer cards and Chipsets.
Does anyone know? Was the issue solved? I've tried searching Google and reading thru the stickied topics on this forum with no luck.
    Thank you.

As I said the 975X has issues of it's own. Have a look at the AnandTech forums. Although what we users write on the forums must allways be taken with a pinch of salt, just in case, it seems that the platform itself is still buggy.
Also on paper the nForce 5xx platform seems to offer more features than the Intel counterpart.
A quick look at this thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=29&threadid=9325 can be informati've.
Now, my point is that the Intel platform hasn't been completely troubleshooted yet, and the nForce 5xx hasn't even been tested thoroughly in "real world" conditions.
Adding a X-Fi on top of this just adds another layer of complication. For what you can read in this very forum, this sound card is a quite troublesome piece of hardware.
I strongly adviced against this move because I'm personally quite conservati've when it comes to hardware.
When I buy new hardware I do it to actually use it rather than spending outrageous amounts of time troubleshooting it.
What I'm going to write now is going to sound like an old song to you, because it the "catch 22" of buying hardware, but if I was to buy a new rig now (instead of waiting till spring next year, which is my plan) I'd wait for mid-october.
Why? Because by that time there will be plenty of availability of Intel nForce 5xx motherboards, plenty of real life tests of people with no patience and plenty of spending power, more time to troubleshoot the 975X platform and to see how both compare, the next generation of CoreDuo processors will be on the shelves, making the present ones drop in price (and if they suit your needs now they will suit your needs in a month ), and there will be plenty of time for people to post here how the X-Fi behaves in the new platform.
    Unless you want:
    a) Desperately a new rig because the one you've got has failed, doesn't suit your needs any longer, or you don't have one to start with and you really need it.
    b) To be the guy writing here about your particular problems with the X-Fi in your new rig rather than being the guy that reads about other people's problems and tries to give them a hand whenever and wherever possible.
I wouldn't buy the new rig right now. And this is the "catch 22" of hardware purchases.
Either you buy the latest and shiniest and take a leap of faith, or you wait until is tested to make an informed decission but is not the latest and shiniest anymore.
Besides, everyone will try to trick you in any possible way not to make and informed decission. In the end of the day you have a vast amount of companies that sell exactly the same product on a different package.
The only way to ensure the custom is to make the decission as confusing as possible to the customer, and put the best selling catchphrase/image/breasts on the package (yes, technology evolves but males don't. Political correctness aside, breasts are still a major selling feature, even in cutting edge computer products).
And I will try to put you off making any purchase by trying every trick on the manual, including making you wait until the buying urge washes off, because I'm a horrible person.

Hello, there is a problem on my 875 neo fis2r motherboard.
In the "integrated peripherals"-->"on chip ide" section on the bios (v2.4), when i leave the option "sata keep enabled" to yes, i have problems on system power up.

For that set up, I would recommend trying the following settings:
    On Chip Operate Mode:  Native
    ATA Configuration: S-ATA Only
    SATA Keep enabled : Yes
    PATA Keep enabled : Yes
That's how I set up my old 875P without trouble when I installed a pair of drives in RAID 0.  In your sig I don't see two drives, so I'm not sure what else to provide. (whether you are building a new comp or upgrading to RAID 0 etc)
For further reference, have a look at Vango's guide to RAID setup here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=38845.0
