PTP tranfer from cameras (post systemd migration).

Hi! This is my first post; i am italian and i apologize if my english is not perfect
I will be brief ...
Who of you has one (or more than one) camera using PTP manage through file manager (eg. Nemo or Nautilus, by libgphoto2)?
After the advent of systemd, downloading photos from the camera (especially in large number) is smoothly?
I tried on three different systems (all Arch, of course) and with two different cameras (Nikon D60 and Canon Ixus 870 IS) well ... file transfer stops after a while (sometimes almost immediately, others after 20 or 30 pictures), the incremental bar remains stationary and the only way to overcome the deadlock is to turn off the camera.
Neither in the network nor in the forums I found trace of such problems, unfortunately
I compared the systemd "services" running in the three installations of Arch, I checked the journal but without success
Are some of you working on the problem by chance? The strange thing is that using gphoto2 from command line:
gphoto2 --get-all-files
the image transfer is completed without a hitch.

There is not an "offending application", playspec
If i try to download image files from any "PTP" camera, suite "gvfs" is involved (with gnome installed seems inevitable even using KDE ...) and the transfer hangs (logs does not show errors), especially if the number of images to be transferred is high. And this happens with any file manager!
I also tried to do a downgrade of the gvfs suite but there are too many "crossed" dependencies and it appears complicated
I will try a "pure" installation of Arch; i mean to say an installation that uses only KDE with no Gnome packages... but this thing is really annoying
Another option is to open a bug report...

That's the problem.  Apple doesn't make it clear that you should transfer when the new Mac starts up, not later on with Migration Assistant.
which told me to enter a new name . I had the new computer and old with same name. I called the new user my name with word "old" so not the same name as old Mac.
The problem isn't the names, it's the (mostly hidden) User ID number (UID).  See the pink box in Problems after using Migration Assistant for an explanation of what happened.
Your best bet is to use one of the workarounds (probably #4) in the green box there, to re-transfer your account.  It will have exactly the same name and permissions as before.
If you want to change the name, you can, but it takes a minor finagle. Post back if you want to do that.

  • How do I copy photos from Camera Roll to personal photo album? iPhone 4 and pc

I have an iPhone 4 and use pc....
I want to copy a few pics from Camera Roll to my personal album. I'd like to copy them and then remove them from Camera roll. Then, I'd like to be able to organize folders in my personal album so I don't have to look through all 500 pics to find what I'm looking for. The pictures on my pc are in folders but they all get put together in one folder on the phone. I hope this makes sense. Thank you in advance.  Ü

This forum is broken into lots of different categories for all the various applications and devices that Apple makes.
You've posted a Question about the iPhone and Windows.
But this is the iPhoto forum - and iPhoto is an app that runs on neither the iPhone nor Windows.
So, click on the link above and ask your question there. That's where it needs to be asked so you can get help.

  • Error message when opening photo from Camera Roll

I just updated to iOS 4.3
Now, when I open a photo from camera roll it says "El formato de esta pelicula es incompatible", which means something like "The format of this movie is not compatible" (it doesn't matter if I try to open a photo or a movie).
So I tap the "OK" button below the message and then I can see the photo.
Any idea of what this means?
    Thank you!

    any ideas any one?

I have a PowerBook 1MHZ G4 OS 10.3.9 iPhoto version 6.03 and an Intel iMac OS 10.4.4 and iPhoto version 6.0. I can download photos easily to the PowerBook from my Cannon 1GB SD memory card using the Merkury card reader/writer directly to iPhoto. However, the very same activity causes the iMac to stall after 3-6 photos.
I have tried running reset permissions from the install disk as well as disk repair. I have also tried to rebuild the memory card. This has no effect. I have tried to transfer the files from the memory card to a folder on the desktop and importing from there. The file tranfer from the card to the folder stalls ... hangs up the finder. These are ,JPEG files only. No movies. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

  • Can't import photos from camera

I was downloading some photos from my Digital Rebel XSi with no problems. Then I switched cards and all of a sudden, it wouldn't load the photos. I could still view the photos on the camera, so they were definitely there. It was as if Aperture just didn't want to try to load anything. I opened up iPhoto and Image Capture and it was the same story, they just didn't load the photos. I restarted the computer and opened up Image Capture. This time there was at least a progress bar and a waiting for camera. It did load the photos this time, however I hit Download All, it went to the progress bar and thumbnail display as normal, but it zoomed through all the photos in seconds and didn't actually download anything. Luckily I had turned off "delete from camera after downloading" or I may have lost everything. I plugged the camera into my iBook G4 and downloaded the photos no problem with Image Capture. Both computers are running OS X 10.5.7 and Aperture, iPhoto and RAW compatibility are at their latest versions.

Try this workflow as described below in an earlier post of mine:
I feel pretty strongly that card-to-Aperture or camera-to-Aperture handling of original images puts originals at unnecessary risk. I suggest this workflow, first using the Finder (not Aperture) to copy images from CF card to computer hard drive:
    • Remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into a memory card reader. Faster readers and faster cards are preferable.
    • Finder-copy images from memory card to a labeled folder on the intended permanent Masters location hard drive.
    • Eject memory card.
    • Burn backup hard drive or DVD copies of the original images (optional strongly recommended recommended backup step).
    • Eject backup hard drive(s) or DVDs.
    • From within Aperture, import images from the hard drive folder into Aperture selecting "Store files in their current location." This is called "referenced images." During import is the best time to also add keywords, but that is another discussion.
    • Review pix for completeness (e.g. a 500-pic shoot has 500 valid images showing in Aperture).
    • Reformat memory card in camera, and archive originals off site on hard drives and/or on DVDs.
Note that the "eject" steps above are important in order to avoid mistakenly working on removable media/backups.
Also note with a Referenced-Masters Library that use of the "Vault" backup routine backs up the Library only, not the Masters. Masters should be separately backed up, IMO a good thing from a workflow and data security standpoint.

  • Can an "Archive From Camera" folder be opened up in Final Cut Pro?

    Greetings.
I'm just starting out, using an AVCHD camcorder and iMovie.
I've got video in my camcorder, and I want to remove it from the camcorder to make room for more video, and edit it in iMovie.
However, I also want to preserve the original in its original form for posterity and future use. I'd like to keep an original forward-compatible version around to use in Final Cut Pro (which I don't yet have but plan to get).
iMovie gives me two import options - directly into iMovie (which changes the file), and an "Archive From Camera" which appears to save it in what looks like the same folders/files as what's on the camcorder.
If I perform an Archive From Camera, can I use the folder it generates to import the original video into FCP at a future date?
Is this the best way to take video, use it in iMovie, and save a copy of the original so that it's there if I want to step up the editing at a later date?
    Thanks!

    Thanks!
So the safe workflow is basically: 1) make archive, 2) backup archive, 3) import into iMovie, 4) reformat camera.
I'm nervous about errasing the video in the camera before I abolutely know it's safe, but I imagine if I leave it there and add to it, the next archive will combine new + old material..
(apologies for the mirrored post - at 1st there were no takers in FCX so I then posted here).

  • Duplicate images from camera kit.

I have an iPad 2 and camera connection kit.
I want to use the iPad as backup for raw files from my canon 550d while on vacation, so want to keep the images on my sd card between re imports to my iPad.
I understood from various posts online that the iPad would offer to import new images when I insert the sd card into the kit. However in my tests I only seem to have the option to manually select images or import all images. The latter imports all images including those imported already.
Am I missing something? Can I get the iPad to ignore duplicates when importing images using the camera connection kit?

I have the idendical problem as Emily. When I plug the my camera directly into the Apple Camera Connection Kit, only a few of the previously imported photos have the green check mark. If I remove the SD card from my camera and plug it into the CCK, then it works correctly; all of the previously imported photos have the green check mark. I am using a Canon EOS Rebel XSi and I shoot RAW.
I hate to keep removing the card from my camera on each import. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

I have just changed to Photoshop CC from CS4 and cannot now save images from Camera Raw. I get message 'write permission error'. I assume there is some permissions setting which did not exist with CS4.
I cannot progress unless I revert to CS4. What am I failing to do?

I'd suggest that rather than deleting the file, you move it out of the folder to somewhere else, in case things get worse and you need to put it back.
I found this by Googling the error message.
If you can't figure it out, you might post in the "Downloading, Installing and Set Up" or "Adobe Creative Cloud" forums  since it seems to be related to the Cloud updates, and not necessarily ACR plug-in functionality, and I've seen India support people actually tackle problems posted there, which rarely happens in the ACR forum, although an ACR engineer may sometimes pop in to answer questions, they'd be less likely to know how to fix deployment issues.

  • I lose changes in the details when i open my photos from camera raw 7.0 to photoshop cs5, why?

I lose changes that I made with the tools in the "Details" section, just right after I open my photos from camera raw 7.0 to photoshop cs5, why?   The changes that I made with the tools in the "Basic" section remain.

First, how and why are you using Camera Raw 7.0 with CS5?
ACR 7.x requires CS6 to run.
Even if that's a typo in your post and you are running CS6 instead of CS5, no one should be running ACR 7.0, but ACR 8.4 —or at the very least 7.4.
Once any given camera model is supported by a version of ACR, it will continue to be supported in all subsequent versions of ACR.  Each update to ACR has unannounced, unheralded bug fixes and improvements.  Running 7.0 at this point is sheer madness.
    Please clarify.
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand, such as your platform (Mac or Win), exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop and of Bridge, machine specs, what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far, what error message(s) you receive, if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them, etc., someone may be able to help you.

I had to open iPhoto and then it populated only the most recent photos I had taken which fortunately were the only ones I need. No error messages this seems to be a new occurrence.

Yesterday I was using my Canon Vixia HG20 to record AVCHDclips, which records it in a .cpi file. Although I’m unable to play them onQuickTime, I was able to import them through Final Cut Pro X by using “ImportFrom Camera”. Then I was able to edit the videos with no problems. But nowtoday, after recording more footage, when I hook up my camera to my MacBook Pro2011 entry level 15” (the same computer I used yesterday) my camera doesn’t evenshow up on the list in Import From Camera; the only camera in the list is thebuilt in FaceTime camera. I’m not sure if it makes a difference, but both todayand yesterday I have been using a PlayStation 3 charger cable to connect thecamera to the laptop. Any ideas on how to get the camera to show up in thelist, or at least another way to edit these files? Also, I read on anothersimilar post that their camera wouldn’t show up on Final Cut Pro X but it wouldfor iMovie, however I tried this and my camera won’t show up on the Import FromCamera list on iMovie either.
