PTZ camera recommendations for Cisco IP Surveillance?

My company is looking to do physical security, and after researching the Cisco VMSS solution I found no Cisco brand PTZ (pan, tilt, zoom) cameras. Any recommendations on other brands and models that are compatible? These will be outdoor. Thanks!!

What camera are we talking about?
According to: Cisco 2500 Series Video Surveillance IP Camera Wireless Specifications (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/vpndevc/ps6918/ps9692/ps7307/data_sheet_c78-455613.html) I show it is all supported...
Protocols
802.1x, AES, Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP), Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP), WPA/WPA2 Personal, WPA/WPA2 Enterprise, Extensible Authentication Protocol-Transport Layer Security (EAP-TLS), EAP-Tunneled TLS (EAP-TTLS), Microsoft Challenge-Handshake Authentication Protocol (MS-CHAP), MS-CHAPv2, Protected EAP (PEAP), EAP-Message Digest 5 (EAP-MD5)

  • Which RS232 converter recommended for cisco console

    hi,
which RS232 converter cable is the recomanded for cisco console?
i used many converters and getting blue screen error for my windows 7 Enterprise
sometimes port not working as well!
Any assistance would be most appreciated.  Thanks.

There are several good options. Personally I use a USB-Serial converter from TRENDnet purchased at amazon.com for US$9.99:
         http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-RS-232-Serial-Converter-TU-S9/dp/B0007T27H8
I use it on conjunction with the standard Cisco RJ-45-DB-9 serial console cables that come with every router and switch. Since I'm regularly unpacking new ones, they're easily replaced when the little tab on he RJ-45 breaks off (the most common failure). The same USB-DB-9 serial adapter has held up under regular use for about 5 years.
Other threads have also reported good luck with other vendors:

  • Camera recommendations for classroom use

I teach a beginning video class using intel imacs . Currently running imovie 6 HD (cuz we don't like the new 08) BUT.. if I could find an hard disk camera that would hook up and work with FCE (new) and imovie 08, I'd switch I just tried the canon hg 10 and the JVC Everio without any success. Read all the forums , tried the sequences mentioed and file fixes (did not find the Pervian file to delete) and neither will load to drive status or detected by software so.... what are others who want to edit with Mac software doing for cameras?. Need new ones as the newer canon mini dv's just die much too quickly -and my students have been gentle with them this year.

Canon makes excellent equipment and their technical support people always seem Macintosh savvy (They were very familiar with iMovie 06).
I use my Canon with iMovie 06 and iDVD 08. (and occasionally with iMovie 08)

  • CGI Documentation for the WVC210 PTZ camera

    Hi everybody,
I would like to get the OFFICIAL AND COMPLETE LIST OF CGI COMMANDS that can be used to control the Linksys WVC210 PTZ camera.
I could only find a partial (and possibly non-official) list of CGI commands for this camera at:
    http://www.myhomeserver.com/?page_id=80
For documentation on how to control cameras made by AXIS, Trendnet, Intellinet and Genius see:
    http://pablohoffman.com/cgi-bin/twiki/bin/view/Main/NetworkCameras
The following link can also be useful for developers of IP camera software:
    Code Project: Camera Vision

That's all for now. Thanks for any help.

    Hi,
Can you point me to these third party web sites? I could only find one site and the info there seems to be incomplete: http://www.myhomeserver.com/?page_id=80
I am aware that the LINKSYS makes the GPL code for the camera (firmware) availabe at their site.
However, it is very hard to me to understand why I should look through their code and try to find (or guess) the CGI commands that one could use to control the camera, a task that seems very cumbersome to me. Am I the only one that thinks this way?
Fortunately, there are manufacturers of similar products (in the same price range) that release documentation for advanced users and developers, that is, for those people whose needs are not satisfied by the packaged software that comes with the product and know how to go further. These manufacturers know that not everybody is a dumb happy user. I guess I am forced to give their products a good look.
    Thanks,

  • Recommendations for HD camera?

I want to import high definition video into my computer from a camcorder, but I want to do it 'live' without first recording to tape or hard drive. Do all HD camcorders allow this? Does it matter if they have only USB and not firewire, or does either work just as well? I plan to import video using BTVPro, since it allows time-lapse recording. Does anyone know another program for mac that does time-lapse (since BTV has not been updated in years).
I'd like to hear recommendations for which camcorders send excellent high definition video output via firewire or USB. Do any of these camcorders have the feature of digitizing analog video inputs, again without first recording to tape or hard drive? thanks

My post above has a typo and I meant to use the word "can't" (not can).
If you're trying to capture directly from a camera using a "pass though" you'll need Firewire.
iMovie 7 (part of iLife 08) does support some USB cameras but I doubt it could do a real time HD capture and most of them use MPEG-2 compression to store your file.
You'll need at least a dual 2 GHz processor (G5 or Intel) to even view the files and a direct capture would require the fastest Mac made (even it may drop frames).

Recommendations for Semi-Pro or Pro HD Video camera to use with fcpX and Mac with auto settings and ability to override, need to add external mic or 2.  Am one person crew so needs to be easy to use.

And check out the Panasonic AG-AC90.  Very good specs for a prosumer unit. Everything in the semi-pro area will involve trade offs for sure. Key thing is to study up enough to know what your needs are vs what trade off are involved in the various models. The ag-ac90 trade off (one of them) is diffraction limited sharpness.

  • Camera Brand Recommendations for Ease with iPhoto

    Hi
I'm seeking recommendations for mid-level digital camera brands that have images that are highly compatible with iPhoto.
I'm not a professional photographer.  Just a proud father.
I never felt that my Sony cameras image files were as easy to upload and work with in iPhoto.  I like the look of Samsung cameras, but they state their cameras are designed for being very compatible with Android. So that seems like it will be tedious to use their images in iPhoto.
Anyhow, I'd like to hear good and bad experiences with various camera brands.

I'm seeking recommendations for mid-level digital camera brands that have images that are highly compatible with iPhoto.

Uploading the images from the camera should be the easy part.  When picking a camera to catch the important moments in life of your kids, pick a camera that takes great photos, but has a "point and shoot" feeling. You will want a camera that is ready, when you need it, and not have to look for the manual or changing lenses, when your kid makes the first walking step.
I'd go for a camera with a wide range zoom, auto focus plus manual focus, built-in flash, and menus and controls that are easy to understand and to find.  And I would never buy a camera without a view finder, because the displays are hard to use in bright sunlight in the garden.

  • Recommendations for compact Camcorder / Digital Camera combo?

Now that I'm 2 years into fatherhood, I'm finding that I have specific digital habits for which I'm hoping to get some recommendations for a product. Basically, I use a decent Sony camcorder to shoot DV, which I edit in iMovie into little videos. I also have a few digital cameras (point-and-shoot and SLR) to take a big range of still photographs. But I'm getting tired of carrying them all around with me.
What I'm hoping to get is a new product that's small, has good video capture, and still takes good still photos. And most importantly, I need it to work seamlessly with iMovie and iPhoto. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm really just looking for something that I can put in my pocket and shoot video or stills of my son when he does something cute!
    Thanks!

You might want to check out Sony's latest Cyber-shot Digital Camera, the DSC-W300.
It's a point and shoot with video in HD. If you have a nice HDTV, you'll be able to playback the footage easily. I don't know the size of the file for importing into iMovie but your memories will look great.

  • Is it recommend to have a vulnerability scan for Cisco ASA device.

    Dear everyone.
I have a doubt on vulnerability scan for Cisco ASA device. Currently we have a vulnerability for network devices include firewall. But after run the vulnerability scan for cisco ASA, found nothing show in the scan report.
Is it recommend to have a vulnerability scan for Cisco ASA and will it be defeat the purpose of firewall?

Do I understand are you asking can you configure the ASA to allow an external user run a scan against the internal network?
If so, the answer is generally no. The ASA will, by default, not allow any inbound connections (or attempted connections) that are not explicitly allowed in an inbound access-list (applied to the outside interface). In most cases there would also need to be network address translation (NAT) rules configured.
If you had a remote access VPN, you could allow the external scanner to log in via that, Then they would then have the necessary access to scan the internal systems (assuming the VPN granted access to all the internal networks)

  • WVC200 PTZ Camera

I'm moving this message from the linksysbycisco forum to myciscocommunity at the recommendation of another poster on the linksysbycisco forum.
It doesn't look like anyone has posted on the WVC200 PTZ Camera in over a year. I'm hoping there is a resolution to my problem:
After reading an article on what you need to crack a WPA/TKIP passphrase in under 30 seconds, I made the decision to upgrade my router's encryption to WPA2/AES. When I saw no option for WPA2 on the WVC200, I went online and after opening a cisco.com account to download the updates which is separate from my linksysbycisco.com account that I'm using for this forum???, I downloaded and updated my camera. Still no WPA2. Right now, I pulled it down from my little daughter's room where it was invaluable as a method to find out what went "BAM", and as a deterrent. (i.e. I'm watching you, so don't write on the walls!) Now it is just a piece of junk to me, sitting on my desk. I'm tempted to pull my outdoor Panasonic Camera and put it up in her room, but it's an outdoor camera and it was a real paint to get where I wanted it. I've thought about hard-wiring it, but then, why did I go and buy a wireless camera? Plus I hate crawling around in the attic fishing wire.
SINCE THIS IS A BASIC SECURITY CONCERN FOR ALL LINKSYS/CISCO CUSTOMERS WHO'S CAMERAS CAN BE TURNED AGAINST THEM BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF STANDARD 802.11G ENCRYPTION SUPPORT IN THE FORM OF WPA2, I WOULD HOPE THAT CISCO/LINKSYS WOULD FIX THIS RIGHT AWAY SO NO ONE GETS MURDERED OR HAS THEIR HOUSE ROBBED BECAUSE CISCO DID NOT PROVIDE BASIC SECURITY UPDATES AND A SOPHISTICATED THIEF HACKED INTO THEIR CAMERAS. (Opps, did I say that in all caps? Hello Computer...)
Given that I don't expect an immediate solution despite my somewhat ham-handed plea above, is there a NON-CISCO firmware update like they have for many of the linksys routers? Is there a beta update for this camera? As it is, I just have a hunk of plastic and metal on my desk taunting me. Any ideas would be appreciated.  I truly think this is a big security concern for Cisco/Linksys customers and should be addressed ASAP.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,
Appreciate your concerns and understand what your saying.  No need for the 'hall of shame' :-)
The WVC210 is a far superior camera to the WVC200 so our thinking was moving customers to the new 210 should not be an issue.  WVC210 supports dual streams, better image sensor/lens, 2-way audio, WIFI certified, etc.   Also the new SVWMS16 (free monitoring application) doesnt support the WVC200, so a good motivation to buy the new one exists there too.
But I I went and searched for the official Cisco EOS/EOL announcement.   I found it:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/vpndevc/ps6918/ps9692/ps9944/ps9946/end_of_life_notice_c51-560292.html
In there is a table of key dates.
    End of Phone Support:
    HW
The last date to phone support as part of the product warranty. After this date, all phone support services for the product are available with additional charges or support fees. In some cases, support may not be available.
    December 25, 2010
    Last Ship Date:
    HW
The last-possible ship date that can be requested of Cisco and/or its contract manufacturers. Actual ship date is dependent on lead time.
    March 25, 2010
    Last Date of Support:
    HW
The last expected date to receive service and support for the product as entitled by warranty terms and conditions **. After this date, all support services for the product are unavailable, and the product becomes obsolete. Warranty duration is based on product ship dates; refer to warranty terms and conditions for details.
    December 31, 2012
So the dates are a big more gracious than I initially assumned.   I am happy to provide this too you and hope this helps.

  • Good IP Camera App for an iPad?

I have a Panasonic WV-SC384 camera and need to find an App for iPad viewing. The camera supports h.264, MPEG-4 and MJPEG formats.
Specifically - I need to be able to use PTZ (optical zoom) and view in High Resolution (1280x960). No other features are necessary.
I have checked out IP Vision Pro, but am awaiting confirmation from them whether they support this model.
Does anyone have experience viewing IP cameras from an iPad?
Any recommendations for Panasonic PTZ compatibility?

    You didn't mention that.
    Try one of these:

It's greatly complicated by the fact that the US is still almost exclusively a swipe-only credit card country where Europe is mostly EMV (embedded chip and PIN.)
