Public Calendar & Contacts on Android

I am setting up an Office 365 test environment and have a question regarding Public Calendar and Contacts being sync'd to Android and IOS. I know you cannot sync this information using Public folders and would like to know the best practice to get this done.
The two suggestions I have had are:
1. Create a Office 365 account called PB Contacts and and one called PB Calendar and share those calendars with users and these will show up on my mobile devices.
2. Use SharePoint- how do I configure this and is it as user friendly and robust as it is in Outlook?
Thank you!
Mark

I would go with First Option, as it looks simple and easy to implement and manage.
Not sure how will you do it in SharePoint

  • Syncing BB Calendar & Contacts with Android

I was able to transfer my content using the application and methodology you suggested above. Thank you for your help and for the conversation. I wish you the best.

It's just that BB rarely produces new phones or an improved operating system,BlackBerry intro'd four new models last year (Passport, Z3, Classic) and four the prior year (Z10, Z30, Q10, Q5) and one so far this year with at least one more to come (and perhaps two more). Those are completely unique models, unlike Apple's 5, 5c and 5s, all basically one model. BlackBerry has released two major OS updates this calendar year (10.3) and 10.2 last year. Apple nothing. I honestly don't keep up with Droid because I think it's trash as far as security is concerned.legacymusic wrote:

Probably, but again the blogs or the media has you -- an obviously well-educated reasonable person -- believing that BlackBerry has announced they will be producing a some android software hybrid BlackBerry.legacymusic wrote:

QNX is currently in 50 million vehicles already and that's before the partnership with Ford. That's hardly going a hidden revenue stream. Chen is committed to hardware, he has said as much as recently as last week.      BlackBerry must understand what they have done to their loyal and long suffering fan base. I understand that. Personally, I think BlackBerry knows that, and dipped so far already they only have limited resources to fix the issue, which has become more of an issue of 'perception' (see your misconceptions and incorrect facts above) and that can't really be fixed with any amount of money. I've stuck with BlackBerry... plan to stay around longer. They are very much still meeting my needs, running a small business, etc. Example: I just returned from several days out of the country on vacation. My wife asked, "are you bringing your laptop?". I gave her questions a sincere moment's thought... "Nope, nothing on the laptop that I can't do on my Z30!". That's not a knee-jerk fanboi reaction comment. There just nothing I need that I can't already do on my BlackBerry.

  • Open directory server crashing every 30 days / clients unable to connect to calendar, contacts server

    Hello everyone,
I am running an up to date Mavericks Server which serves exclusively as a calendar and contacts server for about two dozens devices. The server is reachable via DynDNS, however, the public IP hardly ever changes (only once or twice a year maybe). Tried setting the OS X DNS Server to serve "all clients" and "some clients".
For about 6 months (i.e. also under Mountain Lion), I am having a very strange problem. Roughly every 20-30 days, clients will not be able to connect to the server, instead getting a "wrong password" dialog. Restarting the open directory server will help for the next 30 days.
I have tried repairing the database as detailed here, however, the issue persists.
Any help would be highly appreciated!
I would have tried setting up a clean server installation, migrating calendars/contacts manually and re-adding all users by hand, however, I am not aware of an easy way to do so. The terminal command for calendar backup is broken under mavericks (might work with this workaround) and re-adding users manually would apparently involve correcting user UUIDs afterwards in order to match the migrated calendar data. Do you know of a better approach?
    Thanks a lot!

  • How can I sync my new iPhone 4S to calendar, contacts, and photos on my MacBook?

Just bought my first iPhone after 2 years as an Android user. My 2008 MacBook would never talk to the Android, but now - they tell me - I can backup my phone onto my computer and share contacts, calendar and photos with the computer.
I've plugged the phone into the computer but the computer's Finder doesn't show it. And the phone indicates it's charging but doesn't show any way to swap data.
I feel like I'm missing something really basic ... but what?

All of this is handled through iTunes. You must have iTunes installed on the comptuer. Also, you will not be able to see any files in Finder, as the iPhone does not give you access to that information. The only time you will ever see anything from the iPhone in Finder is if you have photos in the Camera Roll.
After you download and install iTunes, you would set up syncing your device with specific apps on the computer, to handle calendar, contacts, and photos. You might want to start out by thumbing through the User Guide here: http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf

  • CompanionLink sync calendar, contact, notes with Outlook over USB?

For years, I've been wrestling with the choice of what to migrate to from my hobbly 1st generation iPod Touch.  A replacement for my cellphone and the Touch, augmented with a data plan.  I am not a natural fan of the Apple cult design philosophy, nor the cavalier security model of Android.  Furthermore, I have modest no-nonsense requirements in terms of apps -- I need a secure and efficient to organize my info and priorities, not play Mario Brothers over the web with my garage door opener, or some other frivolous distraction.
The advent of Blackberry 10 was a huge relief.  However, I've been reading about the wrinkle with nonwireless 2-way syncing with Outlook, encompassing calendar, contacts, and notes.  The latest rumours I've found online about the ETA is end of 2013, and I'm not sure how much uncertainty there is in that forecast.  Consequently, I decided to explore the option of buying CompanionLink.  I have only found one personal anecdote during my web search, and I'll refrain from describing it here.  To get an idea of the quality of the solutio, it was suggested to me to post on a CompanionLink forum, but that might not be the best way to get a balanced view of the product.  I figure that a Blackberry forum would be more objective.
Can anyone who has jumped into the CompanionLink pool please share their anecdote of how well it works?  Anything that you consider worthwhile, as I may not be able to anticipate all the potentially significant points.
A particular behaviour that I'm hoping won't be in CompanionLink is what I experienced in syncing between Outlook and the iPod Touch via the iTunes app on the PC.  If an item (e.g. a note) changed both on Outlook on the PC and on the device, the user must choose which one is the correct one, and must make this choice on the fly.  If the conflicted item contained a lot of information, it would be hard to make the comparison on the fly.  The correct way to handle this would be to allow the user to choose that both versions of the item kept, effectively yielding two instances of the item.  The user can then use text comparison tools to reconcile the two versions e.g.  vim, diff, Word, etc.  Palm replicated conflicted items, but they've been out of the picture for a long time.
Thanks for any anecdotes on CompanionLink.
Afternote: Oh, and if anyone can point to past examples of a platform vendor changing hands, an the fate of the platforms, thanks for sharing that, too.  It is an overwhelming factor in how I decide to go forward.

I totally agree. It would seem that since they sync all of the other parts of Outlook they would do the same for Notes. In fact if you think about it, they are not backing up the built in Notes so it probably was the last item on the list of todos. Probably in the next release of iTunes.
A work around would be to create a contact for the more important notes and then do a sync. Use Notes for the last name and the subject for the first name. That way they would be close together.

  • Get Public Calendar from Exchange

The "experts" said it can't be done, but we downloaded Add2Exchange from diditbetter.com and set up syncing relationships between our Private calendars and our Public calendar, where all our corporate appointments are kept. Now our Public info syncs with our iPhones. GREAT STUFF! You also can use the software to sync Private/Public Contacts and Tasks.
We are in our 21-day trial period, but it looks like we will be purchasing this Exchange add-in. If you need iPhone access to your Public folders, have your Exchange Administrator look into the program.
Just thought I'd share this for those who want to know how to sync with Public folders.
BTW, I have hated the iPhone since getting it last year, but the 2.0 software has significantly changed my opinion. It's pretty darned cool stuff now.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to add a public folder outlook calendar to a SharePoint site.
I recommend to overlay an Exchange calendar on a SharePoint calendar.
There are two articles for your reference, although it is about the SharePoint 2010, it still works for SharePoint 2013.
Overlay a SharePoint calendar with a calendar from Exchange or SharePoint
    SharePoint and Exchange Calendar together
In addition, you can manually drag and drop the appointment from your personal calendar to the SharePoint calendar.

  • Subscribe to a public calendar on windows

I am ready to send out a public calendar link created in Calendar 7.0.  What do the Windows people need on their PC's to view my calendar?

    Hello there, eljnlm.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some great information on that matter:
Mac Basics: Calendar keeps your appointments
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5978
    Particularly the tip that follows:
    Publish your calendar
To make a calendar viewable by others, follow these steps.
    Choose Edit > Share Calendar
Enter the names of people from your contacts list or email addresses that you want to share this calendar with.
If you want anyone to be able to subscribe to your calendar from the Internet, select the option for Public Calendar.
A URL is provided that you can send to others so that they can see the calendar. Click the share button next to the URL to send it directly to a recipient using the built-in sharing options in OS X.
Tip: Any calendar application that is compatible with the icalendar standard can subscribe to your calendar using this URL.

  • Calendar / Contacts Sync Issue on a home computer with a BES-enabled BB

I'm a long-time BB user (back to the days of the old 950 sans phone!).
I finally upgraded my old 7100 to the Storm.  My company operates a BES; I'm just a user.
When I first got the 7100, I declined to be on the BES and simply synched my calendar and contacts via a cable; I did the same thing with my calendar and contacts on my home desktop and laptop.  That way I always had all four devices with the same relative info.
When I finally moved to the BES, all of the work synching was done wirelessly.  That certainly added some features that I didn't have before.  However, it also created an apparent problem - the only way I could then synch my Blackberry with my two home computers was to turn the wireless synching off, update the home computers (one way from the BB to the computer), and then turn the synching back on.  Needless to say, this was quite inconvenient and any change that I may have made directly on my home contacts or calendars never made it to the BB during these syncs.  If I tried syncing the data both ways, the BB would warn me that any changes that I may have made to the BB calendar / contacts would be lost when I turned wireless syncing back on.  I eventually stopped trying.
So, with all of that, is there a way to actually sync a BES BB with my home computers without (1) turning off the wireless sync with the BES, and/or without (2) losing any data that may have been transferred to the BB from my home computer?
Perhaps I'm just not using the BB desktop software on my home computers correctly.  It's somewhat confusing because when I first installed it, I didn't know if I should select the option for syncing with a work account of a personal account (BES v. BIS essentially?) since the device is definitely BES but my home computer is not.
If that doesn't make sense, let me know and I'll try to clarify the question.

  • Public calendars and privacy

I want my iCal data to show up on Google calendar (and possibly other aggregation services with iCal support, like netvibe.com.)
I've been publishing my calendar as private data on .Mac (as well as on icalx.com.) The services above only integrate with public calendars.
Does anyone have a sense of how private my data is on a public server (oxymoronic, I know.) Would folks have to know my username and calendar name in order to find it, or would the calendar appear in some web searches or on lists of public calendars?
    thanks,
    Dan

I've copied the fix from Bernie300374 here: On your settings in iTunes under the info tag, un-check the sync ical calendars box. On the settings on your iphone, select mail, contacts, calendars, then your .Me account. Turn off your calendars and select the option to delete them on your phone which will come up. Wait a few minutes, then re-select the calendars to on and select the option to merge.
If that doesn't work, check your calendars on your mobile me page online, some of my events had been repeated, think mobileme got confused, I had to reset all the online data.

I'm assuming it's trying to tell me I have an older iTunes Library, but don't know that.  Geez, maybe people over 60 shouldn't have iPhones, iTunes just bafles me.

If my husband add a new iCloud account to his iPhone 5, will he be "locked out" because he's using a new Apple ID to do it? Does he have to use a new Apple ID to create a new iCloud account? He set up his phone using my Apple ID because we didn't know any better. Now we want to separate calendars/contacts, but are afraid of the 90-day lockout.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can change the Apple ID without any problem. On his device, go to Settings > iCloud > Delete account and login with his Apple ID so he'll get his information. iCloud needs an Apple ID, so if he hasn't got one, he must create an Apple ID > http://appleid.apple.com
When you delete the iCloud account, all the information will be deleted, so I recommend you to turn off each service before deleting iCloud

  • How do I Sync Email with BES and Calendar-Contacts-Tasks-Notes with BDS?

I have a Storm that I sync with our BES just for email and I want to sync my calendar, contacts, etc.. with the Blackberry Desktop Software.  First I was only able to sync my contacts... not my calendar.  Second, everytime I sync I lose my ability to send and receive email from my Storm and have to have our BES admin resend my service books to me so I can sebd abd receuve email again.
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

Did you install the desktop manager in blackberry enterprise or blackberry internet mode? I'm guessing it might be the latter, and it could be changing your servicebooks because of that... If it is installed for blackberry internet service, try removing it and installing it for blackberry enterprise service (this is a choice during installation).

  • How can I share my a public calendar from iCal (through iCloud) with Outlook for Windows users?

I have a public work calendar that I wish to share with colleagues in the office. No issues for those having a Mac or an iPhone, but how can I share the calendar with Outlook for Windows users?
    Thanks for the help!

    Hello ramirofromstrockholm,
The steps detailed below explain how to go about publicly share a calendar (which doesn't require that one be an iCloud user to accept).
Click the Share button to the right of the calendar you want to share, then select Public Calendar.
Note:   You can also share the same calendar privately. For instructions, see the previous task, “Share a calendar privately.”
To invite people to view the calendar, click Email Link.
Type one or more email addresses in the To field, then click Send.
The people you specify automatically receive an invitation email that includes the calendar’s URL. An invitee doesn’t need to be an iCloud user to accept an invitation to view a shared public calendar.
In the sidebar, a shared calendar has a dark Share button.
You can also resend invitations to one or more invited participants at any time.
