Public connection in discoverer 11g

hi,
how can I add public connection in discoverer 11g?
what does I have to install for it?
thank ahead,

Hi,
For a Discoverer 11g standalone installation, you will need to run the Repository Creation Utility (RCU) and associate the middle-tier with the connection management schemas in the repository.
You may want to refer to My Oracle Support document "How To Associate A Discoverer 11g (11.1.1.x) Standalone Installation With The Connection Management Schemas (Doc ID 1155198.1)"

Steve.

    Please, i need your help!

I had a similar problem with a vanilla install of 11g on my local Windows XP box. The difference was that I could connect using SqlPlus but could not connect with Sql Developer.
In Sql Developer, I first tried "Connection type = basic", "Hostname = localhost", "Port = 1521" and "sid = orcl".
I then tried "Connection type = TNS", "Network Alias = ORCL".
    Neither worked.
In the end, I got around the first problem by replacing "localhost" with the machine's IP address. I got around the second problem by looking at windows services and noticing that the "OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener" service was set to start automatically but was not started. I started it manually and all was good. I'm sure this willl alll fall apart when my IP address changes due to DHCP but at least I will know where to look.

  • Private vs Public Connection for discoverer portlet

    Hi,
I am having different workbooks and some of them are secured(Only some can see them). We have SSO enabled.
I want to publish list of worksheets in portal using List of worksheets portlet. When I use the public connection every user is able to see all the worksheets including the secured.
How to limit some of the user not having access to secured reports.
I searched every where but no information. I know there is way for this.
    Please help me doing this.
We are in middle of the live.
    thanks in advance.

  • Can't create a public connection

I have searched the forums and none of the solutions worked.
When I try to create a discoverer connection through AS control, I get this error:

I've been googling it (and searching this forum) for the past 2 days and can't get it to work. Help anyone? Where should I be looking at?
I see in the error something about SSO, checked that component and it's up (like all the others) but its start time is N/A.

  • How modify my connections page in Discoverer 11g

    Hi Experts,
We had a customized connections page for ours Discoverer version 10. A genius updated to version 11g without more information about ours customizations. Now I need to re-build all my customizations (add a new link in connections page, add an image, etc..). How can I do this in Discoverer 11g?
    Thanks,
    Gianni Neves

    Hello David,
    Thanks for reply.
Actually I am just concern abt the OBIEE Dashboard page, the link that u have mentioned is for Application Server, where we can manage the multiple Application Portals.
and it also doesn't come with Middleware that we are installing for OBIEE.
so i did get some useful information but not related to my question.
is there any place in EM(Enterprise Manager) or Console(Admin Console) from where we can manage the Default Portal for OBIEE Users?
    Thanking You..

  • Oracle Discoverer 4i (portal db - oracle 8i) connectivity issue with 11g database

    Hi All
We have oracle discoverer 4i with portal db (oracle 8i).
We connect to the external databases using db links in the portal db and the reports will use the db link to retrieve the data from views in the external databases.
External databases we were connecting is oracle 10g version and now we have upgraded these databases to 11g version.
Now i have a created a new db link to this 11g database and i have created a new EUL in portal to connect to this 11g database.
But when i try to create a report using the discoverer from this new EUL after login to the discoverer we get a "cannot connect to database" error.
We have all the necesscary privilege to the user and the new database link works perfectly fine. (when we try to query directly using SQL plus from portal database using this db link the query works perfectly fine).
Im not sure if this is a compatibility issue in connecting from oracle disc 4i to a 11g database.
Can any one advise if this is the case and if there is any workaround for this?
    Regards,
    Raj

Are you saying you are having issues with a database link between 8i and 11g (pl post exact versions to 4 digits) ? If so, it should be expected as database links between these two versions are not supported. Is there a reason you cannot upgrade the portal database to at least 10gR2 ?

  • Discoverer URL - Hide password without having to use public connection

    Hi,
I would like to call Discoverer Viewer without having to expose the schema password and without having to use public connections. Is this possible? Disco Viewer is called directly from my application, with custom authorization and authentication. I do not want to expose reports to the public by creating public connections.
    TIA.
    Tamas

    Hi,
If you use an HTTP Post in your application to pass the viewer URL to the Discoverer server then you can supply the password as a hidden input that will not be visible to the users.

  • On discoverer portlets and using a public connection

I need a quick help please, I've asked our DBA to create a new PUBLIC connection (discoverer connection which the DBA created using the IAS admin).
When I use this new connection, my worksheet can't be publish because of the following error. I tried to google on it and search in the forums but nothing comes back. Is there something I should ask the DBA to setup for this public connection?
    This is the error:
An error occurred retrieving the connection details. java.rmi.RemoteException: oracle.discoiv.connections.ConnectionStoreException: deferred connection password missing; nested exception is: oracle.discoiv.beans.ConnectionStoreException: oracle.discoiv.connections.ConnectionStoreExcep

    Hello ,
On Discoverer 10.1.2 there are no restrictions on password field for PUBLIC connections, this mean that the connection can be also created empty password field. Your exception report the following cause "connection password missing". So, I assume that if the PUBLIC connection is created correctly and the password is provided, you should be able to connect without any exceptions.
On the other hands, if the password is not provided during the PUBLIC connection creation, you shouldn't get an exception but you should be prompted to enter the password.
By the way, this is not a bug, I guess this is more an issue in your environment, which probably you could be able to workaround to re-associating the Middle Tier with the Infrastructure :

  • Establih a connection to Oracle Server through Discoverer 11g

    Hi
I am new to Oracle Discoverer reporting, I have installed Oracle Discoverer 11g on my Windows 7 32bit mechine and when I open discoverer it is asking for connection details.
I would like to know more on this connection details :
--Do I need to install Oracle client on my mechine ?
--Or is there any settings to be modified (ora.ini file or etc...)
--Do I have to install any other components to establish a connection to my oracle server ?
    Your help is highly appriciated.
    Thanks,
    Sastry

    Hi,
Do I need to install Oracle client on my mechine ?No, all the client software is installed with the Discoverer Admin and User install
Or is there any settings to be modified (ora.ini file or etc...) You need to setup the tnsnames.ora file found in the <OH>/network directory within the Discoverer Admin/User Oracle home directory. The setup is the same for other Oracle clients e.g. SQLPlus.
Do I have to install any other components to establish a connection to my oracle server ?
No, not unless you are connecting to an e-Business Suite using an apps mode EUL.Rod West

  • Intermittent Sign on issues with Discoverer 11g

Since migrating to Discoverer 11g, we have received a number of issues where Discoverer users can't connect to Discoverer and receive a invalid username/password, logon denied.
Everything is correct with the account and they are able to log in if they use another Browser. If they are using IE I have them switch to Firefox and if they are using Firefox I have them switch to IE or the other work-around is if I have them use the browser that is having the issue they go in to Private mode it will allow them to sign in.
This problem does not appear to be Browser specific or a Java version issue but it does seem to have something to do with the fact that most of the users having this issue saved their passwords in their browser when using the previous 10g version. Even at that I have had them clear out all of their cache including saved passwords and it has not fixed the issue.
    Has anybody encountered anything similar?

First of all: using the word 'urgently' is inappropriate and rude in a forum of volunteers.
Edit your post and apologize publicly for using it.
Secondly your question is a rhetorical one, as it's answer is:
    OF COURSE NOT
    8.0.6
