    hi guys
i have Exchagne 2010 SP3 and Exchange 2013 CU2 , i have moved all my mailboxes to Exchange2013 , before that i created Exchnage2013 Address Book ( web base ) for OAB . i have Public folder Database( used for Default Address book ) -Free/Busy on exchnage
2010 . now i don't need PF at all on Exchange 2013, So can i just Delete Public Folders from Exchange 2010 without Moving Public Folder ( free/Busyy , etcc... ) to Exchange 2013.  from exchange 2007 to exchange , we did create Public folder
on Exchnage 2010 , Add replica , waited for sync, moved OAB generated Server as Exchnage 2010.
as i see from deploymetn guild, there are few steps need to be done to move PF to excahnge 2013, but since i don't need PF, can i just delete it.

  • Unable to delete the meeting invitation from Calendar stored in Public Folder - exchange 2010

I assume the specific entry (meeting invitation) is corrupted, due to which we are unable to delete the meeting either from outlook or OWA. Is there any possibility to delete that calender invitation from reoccuring?

    Hi,
For further troubleshooting, I would like to collect some information
Is there any error when trying to delete the meeting invitation from calendar?
If the calendar is not stored in the public folder, is it possible to delete the meeting in this calendar?
Does this issue occur on one user or multi-users?

  • Can't complete public folder migration, 2010 to 2013

So I've been following both these:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150486(v=exchg.150).aspx
    http://www.msexchange.org/articles-tutorials/exchange-server-2013/migration-deployment/migrating-public-folders-exchange-2013-part2.html
I've locked the 2010 PFs, nobody can access them. I've removed the preventcompletion flag in 2013, resumed the migration all according to the steps.
    Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequest | Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequestStatistics -IncludeReport | Format-List
Shows no further activity any longer after some incremental stuff
    Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequest | Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequestStatistics
Shows StatusDetail: InitialSeeding and PercentComplete: 95% and its not moving.
I've tried proceeding and removing the prevention from servering the hierarchy flag on my mailboxes. But it makes no impact on anything. The hold for migration flag remains true and the migration is not finishing.
    What should I do?

Give it some more time.  I don't know how much Public Folder data you have, but once the initial sync is done, it has to copy over the deltas to the mailboxes.  I have seen this take some time.  As long as it doesn't say failed, I think
you are in good shape :)

  • Public Folder Migration - 2010 to 2013 - Downtime incurred at "Lockdown" Stage

Looking for some information from those who have completed a successful Public Folder migration from 2010 to 2013.
    1.  Size of 2010 Public Folder Store
    2.  Downtime incurred upon the "Lock down 2010 Public Folder" stage once all mailboxes moved to 2013 and ready to cut-over to 2013

I would like to refer you at this well explained technet library and check whether you follow all the required prerequisites for a successful public folder migration from Exchange 2010 to 2013 : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150486%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx

  • Public Folder migration (2010 - 2010) replication issues

    Hi all,
I'm currently migrating from one exchange 2010 SP2, to another exchange 2010 SP2 server, and all is complete apart from damn public folders.
    Via EMS I ran
    .\AddRelicaToPFRecursive.sp1 -TopPublicFolder "\" -ServerToAdd "NewEXC10"
And I left exchange a day or so to chug along through the 1GB of public folders. I went to check the replication by running
Get-PublicFolder -Recurse | fl Name, Replicas
    And I get:
    Name: IPM_SUBTREE
    Replicas: <>
    Name: All Public Folders
    Replicas: <Old PFDB. New PFDB>
    Name: Meeting rooms
    Replicas: <Old PFDB>
    Name: Company Contacts
    Replicas: <Old PFDB>
and this goes on for every sub folder under the public folders. I also tried
    Get-PublicFolderStatistics -Server "OLDEXCH10"
    Get-PublicFolderStatistics -Server "NEWEXCH10"
So I could get the item counts, in case everything had copied over but is not showing folder structure.I get
    OLDEXC10
    Name ItemCount
    All Public Folders 0
    Meeting Rooms 137
    Company Contacts 43
    NEWEXC10
    Name ItemCount
    All Public Folders 0
    /o=domain/cm=addres...0
I've not gotten any errors in the event log, and attempted to initate the replication again, but with the same results. Can any one please help?
    Many thanks,

    Hi,
To troubleshoot this issue more efficiently, I need to clarify one thing.
Did you delete an Exchange 2003 server before?
If you had uninstalled the legacy Exchange server, please check if there is an empty Servers container under the administrative group container. If it is there, please remove the empty servers container to check the result.
If you didn't remove Exchange 2003 server in your organization, you can check the following suggestions.
Please check if the mail flow between two servers was working fine.
From the output of ruing the Get-PublicFolder -Recurse | fl Name, Replicas cmdlet, I noticed that the public folder Meeting rooms and Company Contacts didn't have replicas on the New PFDB. You can add the New PFDB to the replica list via Public Folder Management
    Console.
After that, please set the public folder replication schedule to Always Run.
Did you update the public folder content using the Update-PublicFolder cmdlet? If not, please run this command to check the result.
If the issue persists, please increase the Diagnostic Logging Level for MSExchangeIS\9001 Public to Expert to check if there is any related errors to narrow down the issue.

  • After Public Folder Migration 2010 to 2013

Last week I used technet page to migrate our exchange 2010 public folders over to exchange 2013. I'm still new to exchange management so I'm trying to understand what to do next.
The migration move showed 100% complete and successful and now show up as a mailbox in the 2013 admin center. I thought to myself Great! I did it. So I attempted to decommission my 2010 exchange server.
I attempted to remove my public folder database in the 2010 EMC and it tells me the database still contains folder replicas.
I found a couple options as possible fixes, either to remove it in ADSI edit or delete the files in the folder. I just want to make sure doing so won't effect the 2013 public folders.
Or should I do this a different way? Thanks in advance.

I had the server shut down for about 10 minutes and tested and was able to access PF's normally. Would you suggest longer?
Also I did attempt to remove the public folders via that article already and got the following error. I'm connected as an Admin with the correct rights.

  • Public folder migration 2010 to 2013 insufficient access rights

    Hi,
    I'm having a frustrating time with trying to migrate public folders. I've migrated all the mailboxes with no problems but when trying to migrate public folders with the same account it fails with this message;
Active directory response: 00002098: SecErr: DSID-03150BB9, problem 4003
    (INSUFF_ACCESS_RIGHTS), data 0
--> The user has insufficient access rights.
The account is in the organisation management and recipient management group.
I've tried ticking the inherit permission box in AD security.
I've tried creating a brand new account with the same permissions.
Nothing works. I'm tempted just to export to pst and import it to the public folder mailbox.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Nick,
ensure that the new admin account has the allow inheritance permission included
Also ensure that the account has full rights to all the public folders in Ex2010
Go to the application log and there would be an event triggered for the same with some description. YOu can find  that it might be failing permission on a particular public folder if so grant them access.
And also check if the permission failed public folder is mail enabled. If so please disable the mail enable on that PF cancel the migration request and start a new migration request with the below cmd
New-publicfoldermigrationrequest -sourcedatabase (Get-publicfolderdatabase -server servername -csvdata (get-content c:\contents.csv -encoding byte) -BadItemLimit 5000 -AcceptLargeDataLoss

  • Mail Enabled Public Folder Issues after migration online

    Hi
We have recently migrated our Legacy (Exchange 2010) Public Folder Infrastructure to Exchange Online - we have a hybrid setup, SSO and DirSync.
We initially had an issue where some of our mail enabled public folders had lost their link with the associated MailPublicFolder objects and as such could not receive email.
We resolved this issue ourselves however we are now experiencing a different issue which i believe should be easily resolvable however this isn't the case at the minute.
The issue is that when a user emails a Mail Enabled Public folder Exchange online is attempting to relay the email back to our onPrem servers.  This is occuring for the bulk of our Mail Enabled Public Folders - we have ~1200 of these.  The only
folders that are working as expected are those that had the initial issue above and for which we had to remove and re mail enable these folders.  We also had to recreate any secondary smtp address for these folders.  This accounts for 88 of our total
    MEPFs.
I have checked the attributes on the MailPublicFolder objects for those that are not working and those that are functioning as expected.  The only difference in these that I can see is that the MEPFs with the issue have a value set in the ExternalEmailAddressAttribute.
I have tried to programatically set this value to $Null however i receive the following error:
The external e-mail address $null is not an SMTP e-mail address.
    I have also tried the following : set-mailpublicfolder -Identity "MEPF"-ExternalEmailAddress "<not set>"
with the same resultAttempting to use the following syntax -externalemailaddress @{remove=$oldAddress} returns the following error:
Cannot process argument transformation on parameter 'ExternalEmailAddress'.Cannot convert the "System.Collections.Hashtable" value of type"System.Collections.Hashtable" to type "Microsoft.Exchange.Data.ProxyAddress".
At present the only fix that I have for this is to take a copy of the email addresses for an affected public folder, Mail disable it, wait for the object to be cleared, re-enable the public folder as a mail public folder and then re-add the email addresses.
This is ok on an adhoc basis but not for the ~1200 folders that are affected.  Especially when from what i can see it should be relatively straightforward to resolve this with a simple PowerShell script.
I do have a case open with MS for this but I am hoping that somebody here can help also.
    Thanks
    Joe

Ok so i fixed it myself.
The thinking here is that the ExternalEmailAddress was set using the Primary SMTP address while the Public Folders were on premises.
In order to get the required information we ran a script to export all the MailPublicFolder objects which had a value in the ExternalEmailAddress attribute.  We exported the Name, ExternalEmailAddress and GUID
We then ran a second script to export the Identity, MailRecipientGuid from Get-PublicFolder -recurse.
The MailRecipientGUID is what ties the Mail Enabled Public folder to the MailPublicFolder object.
Using Excel I then matched the two up and created a csv file with the Identity Attribute from the get-PublicFolder command and the ExternalEmailAddress Attribute from Get-MailPublicFolder.
The following script then used this csv file to first Mail Disable the Public Folder, then Mail Enable the Public Folder.
Once these steps have been completed the final stage is to add the SMTP address back in to the Public folder.
To do this it is necessary to retrieve the new MailRecipientGUID and use it to return the MailPublicFolder for the Set-MailPublicFolder command.
I was happy to use this script after i tested with a small subset of the data.  It is provided as is with no guarantee that it will be suitable for you to use and any use of this script is at your own risk.

  • When sending e-mail messages to a mail-enabled public folder that have been replicated from old Exchange Server 2000/2003/2007, Exchange Server 2010 environment mails are rejected with NDR.

Hi, I would like to share with you issue that I’ve solved regarding mail-enabled PF that migrated from Exchange 2000/2003/2007 to 2010, I’ve searched & contacted my MVP leader – there’s no official KB regarding this issue right
now, so I’m posting here in order to share this among others.
Note: There’s article(s) that talked about PF replication from Exch2000/2003/2007 to 2010 – this is the same issue as well.
    Symptoms
E-mail messages that been sent to mail-enabled public folder in Exchange Server 2010 environment rejected with the following NDR:
“#< #5.2.0 smtp;554 5.2.0 STOREDRV.Deliver.Exception:ObjectNotFoundException; Failed to process message due to a permanent exception with message The Active Directory user wasn’t found. ObjectNotFoundException: The Active Directory
    user wasn’t found.> #SMTP#”
Sometimes Exchange Server 2010 is documented as well Event ID 1020 on the Event Viewer with this information:
    “Log Name: Application
    Source: MSExchange Store Driver
    Event ID: 1020
    Level: Error
    Description:
The store driver couldn’t deliver the public folder replication message "Hierarchy ([email protected])" because the following error occurred: The Active Directory user wasn't found.”
    Cause
In an environment where Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 or Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 previously existed, and all those servers have been removed, there is a chance that an Administrative Group (First Administrative Group or another custom Administrative
Group) remains with a Servers container, but no servers inside it.
During replication, when the Exchange 2010 Store Driver sees the empty Servers container in Active Directory, it's expecting a System Attendant object inside the container and when it is not found the error occurs.
    Resolution
To work around the issue, delete the empty Servers container. This can't be done through Exchange System Manager. Use the ADSI Edit tool to remove it using the following steps:
Warning If you use the ADSI Edit snap-in, the LDP utility, or any other LDAP version 3 client, and you incorrectly modify the attributes of Active Directory objects, you can cause serious problems. These problems may require you to reinstall Microsoft Windows
2003 Server, Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Microsoft Exchange 2010 Server or both Windows and Exchange. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems that occur if you incorrectly modify Active Directory object attributes can be solved. Modify these attributes
    at your own risk.
    1.
Start the ADSI Edit MMC Snap-in. Click Start, then
Run, and type adsiedit.msc, and then click OK.
    2.
Connect & Expand the Configuration Container [YourServer.DNSDomainName.com], and then expand
    CN=Configuration,DC=DNSDomainName,DC=com.
    3.
Expand CN=Services, and then CN=Microsoft Exchange, and then expand
    CN=YourOrganizationName.
    4.
You will see an empty Administrative Group. Expand the
    CN=YourAdministrativeGroupName.
    5.
    Expand CN=Servers.
    6.
Verify there are no server objects listed under the
    CN=Servers container.
    7.
Right click on the empty CN=Servers container and choose
    Delete.
    8.
Verify the modification, and try to send again the E-mail to the mail-enabled public folder.

Sounds like you are looking in the wrong Administrative Group container which is why you are seeing your Exchange 2010 servers in there.
When you install Exchange 2003 only you will see a container named by default as "CN=First Administrative Group" container. But this could be named anything if you changed the Organization Name on the installation when you installed the first
Exchange 2003 server into the domain/forest.
You will notice that when you install Exchange 2010 part of the AD setup is to create a new configuration container and is named by default "CN=First Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)".
So it sounds like you are not looking in the right location within ADSIEdit.
You may find the following article also helpful for this issue which is the same resolution:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2012/05/17/empty-cn-servers-container-causing-issues-with-public-folders-on-small-business-server-2011.aspx
I recommend though that you ensure your Exchange 2003 servers are fully uninstalled or no longer present in your environment before you go deleting the Servers container though.. The following Microsoft article will help with this:

  • Exchange 2003 to 2010 Public folder Migration issue

I have successfully replicated our Exchange 2003 public folders to our exchange 2010 public folders using the addreplica script in exchange 2010 PS. I have moved all mailboxes to use the public folders on Exchange 2010.  A couple of days ago I ran the
"moveallreplicas.ps1", and the command successfully ran and has removed all replica pointers in the exchange 2010 PF database pointing to the exchange 2003 database. In Exchange 2003 ESM, I still have the replication to all the PF databases, and
the 2k3 has not been removed, nor has the public folder instances folder count changed at all. In searching through the logs I am getting this error on the exchange 2003 event viewer for applications about every minute or less.
This is an SMTP protocol log for virtual server ID 1, connection #58254. The client at "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" sent a "xexch50" command, and the SMTP server responded with "504 Need to authenticate first  ". The full command
sent was "xexch50 1076 2".  This will probably cause the connection to fail.
The client IP indicated in the error is a Exchange 2010 server with the HUB/CAS roles loaded onto it. I am not sure if this is related or not.
I see some people have ran the move all replicas from the Exchange 2003 ESM, should I do that now? Is this even something to worry about since all my mailboxes are using the PF on 2010?
    Thanks for any assistance!

I have looked at KB http://support.microsoft.com/?id=843106 and
it did not resolve the issue on the Exchange 2003 server or 2010.
Last night I put in the fix for the Event ID 36885, method three of this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933430/en-us,
and the errors on both servers seemed to go away, but then have started back up this morning after about seven hours of no errors. I thought the registry entry would fix the issue, and it appears it did, but not sure why it would come back like this. I may
try restarting the servers tonight, but kind of confused how this could still be an issue with the registry entry in place.

  • Problem with public folder initialization on exchange load generator 2010

    hi,
we need to make some stress charge for a migration between 2010 and 2013. Before that we need to populate our exchange 2010 lab with full mailbox and public folders. So we tried Exchange load generator 2010 for this task ( initialization only).
Loadgen did well for the mailbox but we have some problems with the public folders. we have an empty public folder database and the user we run loadgen with has organization admin and public folder management right. the problem is that when we run this command
(for initializing public folder only, mailbox's done) :
    loadgencmd.exe /p /c config.xml /add trace.log
IT create only one public folder with the user we run loadgen with, and 5-8 objects inside. We need that It create a public folder for each users it created before. Maybe we do not understand loadgen
    correctly...

    I found my solution :
customize the <PublicStoreProfile> section in the configuration file as follows:

  • Exchange 2010 SP3 - How many Calendar Items/Folders can you create under "all public folder"

    Hi,
Is there a limitation on how many calendar items/folders you can create under "all public folder" in Exchange 2010 SP3?
    Thank you

I don't believe you can create calendar items under the root folder, but it's been so long since I worked with a system that had public folders that I'm not sure.  If you mean "a folder that can contain calendar items", that is not a calendar
    item itself.
Now, I believe your underlying question is, "How many folders can be created at the root level of the public folder hierarchy?"  If so, there is no simple limit that I know of (you can have thousands, if you really want), but management gets
pretty unruly with the more that you have.  I normally recommend that you create sub-folders to logically meet your requirements, then have each of these with more folders (normally that only specific groups of users will be able to access or add items
to).  And anyone will tell you that you want to restrict anyone from creating their own folders at the root level.  In fact, this is the default setting for a new Exchange 2010 installation.
I'll add that you really should stop trying to use public folders, since there are newer technologies (SharePoint, for instance) that work much better and are much easier to use.

  • Exchange 2003 to 2010 migration move public folder

    Hello.
I'm on the road to Exchange 2010 migration and stuck at on question
All tutorial says then you want to replicate system PF and Public Folders you need to add PF 2010 in ESM and set replication to Urgent, that's all
But then  i view my system PF replication on Exchange 2010 i see checkbox Use public folder is checked and replication shedule on Exchange 2010 is set to Never run(greyed out)
Is this right? Or i need to uncheck it and then shedule is set to Always run automaticly?
Do i need to do it for all PF? (system and non-system)?

    Hi stevemaystr,
Don’t worry about the replication of PF, we can use the MoveAllReplicas.ps1 and ReplaceReplicaOnPFRecursive.ps1 script to move all public folder and all replicas to another database, please refer to:

Additional,  I find an similar thread about Migrate PF from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010, for your reference:
