Public / Sharing of Interactive Reports
The new Interactive Reports are a great feature that will be extremely helpful for both our development team and our users. However, currently when a user saves an interactive report, there's no way to share it with other users or to make it a public report that can be viewed by everyone. This is because the report is saved with the user's name and can only be viewed by that particular user. This really limits the usefulness of the interactive reports. For example, we would like to enable our power users, administrative users, and even regular end users to be able to create and modify reports and share them with others. In addition, our company has several hundred Crystal reports that we would like to replace with interactive reports. However, if our development team creates all of these as interactive reports (using the “Save Report” feature, not as separate pages), there is no way to make them public so that all of our users can then access them. I've read several requests in this forum for this type of enhancement. I've also read that the apex team intends to implement this sharing feature soon. In the meantime, I've figured out a work-around. This work-around saves and retrieves all interactive reports using a generic, fictitious user name. Using the Page Sentry Function under the Authentication Scheme, we switch the APP_USER to a generic, fictitious user only for the interactive report pages, and set APP_USER back to the original, correct user on the other pages. Here's the code I'm using in the Page Sentry function:
declare
c owa_cookie.cookie;
begin
if :app_page_id in (1,51,52) then
APEX_CUSTOM_AUTH.SET_USER('REPORT_USER');
else
c := owa_cookie.get('LOGIN_USERNAME_COOKIE');
APEX_CUSTOM_AUTH.SET_USER(c.vals(1));
end if;
return true;
end;
This code will set the APP_USER to "REPORT_USER" on pages 1, 51, and 52. Therefore, when interactive reports are saved or retrieved on these pages, they will use the user named "REPORT_USER" regardless of the user that actually logged into the application. This concept can also be expanded to limit certain reports to certain users (or groups of users) by calling a custom function in the database.
I tried using the SET_USER code within a page process (PL/SQL anonymous block), and although it changed the APP_USER, it did not affect the interactive report. I assume this is because the interactive report “does its thing” prior to the firing of the processes on a page. However, the Page Sentry function apparently fires earlier in the sequence (before the interactive report processing).
This will make the interactive reports much more useful for our company and I hope it will be useful to some of you as well.

Scott-
Thanks for the feedback. I tried both the Session Verification Function and the VPD attribute and neither one accomplished the goal. The VPD attribute PL/SQL code apparently fires too late in the process, so although it changed the APP_USER, it had no affect on the interactive report. And the Session Verification Function had adverse affects on the authentication. So rather than mess around with the security settings in the application, I came up with a different work-around.
Here's the new work-around.
On the interactive report page I created a page process (PL/SQL anonymous block) and set the process point to "On Load - Before Header". For the process I entered the following pl/sql code:
begin
update FLOWS_030100.WWV_FLOW_WORKSHEET_RPTS
set APPLICATION_USER = :APP_USER
where ID = :REPORTID
and session_id is null;
end;
This code changes the application user in the underlying interactive report table. It sets the user to the current APP_USER only for the report being viewed. Therefore, when the interactive report processing happens, it thinks the report is for the current APP_USER and renders the report just fine. It also saves any changes to the report back to the base report so other users can view the modifications as well.
I have the tab feature turned off on my interactive reports. Instead I have another page that lists all the interactive reports. When a user clicks one of the reports in the list, I set the REPORTID variable and pull up the corresponding interactive report (that's why I'm using REPORTID in the where clause). For users that are using a tabbed approach, they may have to set the application user for all of the base reports (or figure out another way to determine which individual report tab is being viewed). If they were setting it for all the base reports, it would look like this:
begin
update FLOWS_030100.WWV_FLOW_WORKSHEET_RPTS
set APPLICATION_USER = :APP_USER
where session_id is null;
end;
This solution isn't ideal when lots of users are hitting the same interactive report. It's possible that if two user attempt to load the same interactive report at the same time, the following might happen.
1. User A triggers process to update underlying table
2. User B triggers process to update underlying table
3. User A triggers process to run interactive report (and therefore does not see the report because the report is now set to User B)
4. User B triggers process to run interactive report (and sees report just fine)
So the solution isn't ideal, but it's the best I could come up with until the apex team implements real report sharing. I've tested it with a handful of users and it's worked very well so far.

Share saved interactive reports
Hi, does anyone found a way of sharing saved interactive reports ? i'm using version 3.1.2.
Thanks,
ChantaleSo rather than using interactive reports just build a report page with a bunch of named reports listed and based on the report someone clicks on they get the output as it was predefined. You can do it with dynamic SQL or just hide/show different regions based on the selected report name. Not the elegant solution that IRRs offer, but if that's what the users need then that's one way of achieving it.

Delete saved interactive reports
Seems there is a lot of discussion about migrating and sharing "saved" interactive reports, but how do you delete them?
thanks,
DrewHow do you mean?
Each user can delete a saved report by clicking the 'Delete Report' icon, which is always the first icon at the top of the report.
There is also a APEX_INSTANCE_ADMIN.REMOVE_SAVED_REPORTS procedure that will do the job for all the saved reports.
Cheers

Interactive Reports - Database Hack for sharing developer saved reports
Just this morning I posted to another thread about not being able to create and save multiple reports, but after a bit of database hacking, I've got it working in version 3.1.2.
I take no responsibility in anything that may happen to your APEX install because of what I am about to tell you. If you try this, you do so at your own risk.
That's right, you CAN create multiple default views for your users.
Background:
<ul><li> I created 1 interactive report.</li>
<li> I added criteria and saved the report with the name Report1.</li>
<li>I modified the criteria and saved the report with a new name 3 additional times.</li>
<li>I am now seeing 5 tabs
<ul><li>Working Report</li>
<li>Report1</li>
<li>Report2</li>
<li>Report3</li>
<li>Report4</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>At this point, other users can not see the reports because they are private to me.</li>
</ul>
So, how can I make these reports public to other users?
<ul><li>Logon to your APEX database as a user that has privileges to select and update the WWV_FLOW_WORKSHEET_RPTS table.</li>
<li>Browse the table and find the 4 rows of the new reports that were created above.</li>
<li>Set the SESSION_ID and BASE_REPORT_ID columns to NULL</li>
<li>Set the APPLICTION_USER column to 'APXWS_DEFAULT'</li>
<li>Set the STATUS column to 'PUBLIC'</li>
<li>Set the IS_DEFAULT column to 'Y'</li>
</ul>
It seems to be the combination of APPLICATION_USER and IS_DEFAULT that really makes it work, but I set the other fields to make them look like the row for the working report.
So, now after making these changes, I had two other users login to the site and look at the interactive report, and viola, 5 default tabbed reports!
Hope this helps someone!!!
KrisHello,
Just to stress, that the moment you do direct modifications to WWV_FLOW_WORKSHEET_RPTS (or indeed any 'internal' table) via this non-supported route you are probably making your APEX installation non-supported by Oracle (hopefully someone from Oracle can speaking officially on that).
Even if your update works today, tomorrow, in a months time, you have still done something that you were not supposed to do.
So, do you really want to do that in production?
Just playing Devils Advocate.
John.

How to enable detail view interactive report as default for public user?
Hello all,
I'm currently developing a search results page.
I'm trying to do a nice view instead of a default table like view from the interactive reports. So in this case i enabled the detail view so i could make fancy designs.
all worked well and looked neat but however when i pass value from my search page using IR_ROWFILTER and clear the results page using page_no,RIR, it brings me to the interactive reports result page with the default table like view.
i have to press the detail view to get it. i tried saving it as default but it wont work. this issue is for public user.
if i make the page requires authentication, and save the detail view as default i would not have any problem. i could search and it will straightly bring to the detail view of the search page.
of course the other reason i found is because im using the IR_ROWFILTER and clearing page using page_no,RIR..without it,it works well but i need it coz im doing a a search result. i need to send search text from another page and put it in the filter in the search page. i would need to use RIR to clear it for searching again.
is this a limitation for public user? it doesnt happened for authenticated user though..
how can i make this view as default for public user?T101_cyberdyne wrote:

Flip the report into Detail view on page load using an Page Load dynamic action with the following Execute JavaScript Code true action:
gReport.data.view('DETAIL');

Do you really need this to be an IR? Other than the detail layout, do you require any of the interactive features? If not, try using a standard report with a custom report template. -
Once a person has created an interactive report (not the working report). The new report will only appear for the user who created it.
Is it possible to shate the report with other users.
GusThanks, Joel. I suppose that would serve our needs for the standard reports we want to make available to all users. I guess I was thinking in the context of our old web application where "reports" and "search results screens" are considered two different things (Crystal report versus web page). The only downside I see is that the development environment would be "flooded" with a ton of these report pages and our actual application pages would be mixed with them - but I guess we could use the apex page group feature to help keep the pages organized.
>> 100 different interactive reports on the same underlying dataset? Or 100 different interactive reports, all on different datasets?
Does this matter? Wouldn't the solution you provided work in either case? Over half of our reports are based on the same set of underlying tables, but the others are various reports on different modules in our application. Seems like that's not relevant to the solution, but maybe I'm missing a technical reason (I'm new to apex).
Thanks

Interactive Report - Display New/Changed Columns
Hi,
when I add or change a column in Interactive Reports, APEX doesn't show me the new column automatically.
Everytime the user log in, he has to go on "Actions" and "Select Columns" manually, otherwise the new/changed column won't be displayed.
How can I do that the column is displayed automatically after login?
I am using APEX 4.0.2.00.07.
Regards,
MarcEither you, as a Developer, can save the report as Public.
Or an aithorized user can save the report as a General/Shared Report.
Or the user can save the report as a Private one.
Pick the columns you/user wants to see. Then [Action -> Save] -

Image column in an interactive report (APEX 4.0)
Hi,
I have added a new blob column containing images to an interactive report, but get the following error:-
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number conversion error
If the "IMAGE" column is removed from the report using the "actions:select column" control, the report is ok.
The column contains the following settings in the "BLOB Download Format Mask":-
IMAGE:WINEDETAILS:IMAGE:WINE_ID::MIMETYPE:FILENAME:::inline:Download
Have I missed something?
Regards
TimFirstly, did you run: GRANT EXECUTE ON DISPLAY_IMAGE TO PUBLIC
Yes..
Secondly, is "OBJEKT" a reserved word in your language version of Oracle?
No, objekt is not reserved word.
Lastly, is your table defined in the same way as mine:
CREATE TABLE "A_IMAGES"
"IMAGE_ID" NUMBER(10,0) NOT NULL ENABLE,
"FILE_NAME" VARCHAR2(4000) NOT NULL ENABLE,
"BLOB_CONTENT" BLOB,
"MIME_TYPE" VARCHAR2(4000),
CONSTRAINT "A_IMAGES_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("IMAGE_ID") ENABLE
Script of my table:
CREATE TABLE PROD.TOB_DOKUMENTI
ID NUMBER(10) NOT NULL,
PARENT_ID NUMBER(3) NOT NULL,
ID_VALUE NUMBER(10),
NAZIV_DOKUMENTA VARCHAR2(500 BYTE),
VELICINA NUMBER,
OBJEKT BLOB,
LINK VARCHAR2(1000 BYTE),
DATUM_OD DATE NOT NULL,
DATUM_DO DATE,
STATUS VARCHAR2(1 BYTE) DEFAULT 'D' NOT NULL,
ID_KUPCA NUMBER(10) NOT NULL,
ID_VRSTE NUMBER(6) NOT NULL,
ID_DOC_ORIGINAL NUMBER,
FILE_NAME VARCHAR2(4000 BYTE),
MIME_TYPE VARCHAR2(100 BYTE)
I also think that everything is set up correctly, but it still not working..
THNX for Your reply..
Kreso..

Export XML from interactive report
Hi all,
is there a way to export the resulting output of an interactive report as XML (inline and/or attachment), like a normal report can do? (with FLOW_XMLP_OUTPUT_R<region_ID>)
The download option for ir provide only CSV and PDF.
Regards,
MarcoI explain my request.
I have a very complex SQL query, which is (much) more than 4000 characters and it works well in the interactive report.
As the interactive report is quite different from the normal report and the procudure FLOW_XMLP_OUTPUT_R<region_ID> doesn't seem to work, I'm obliged to create a report query in the shared components to get also the XML output, but shared report query accepts query less than 4000 characters long.
Any idea?

Interactive Report - search does not work when using custom authentication
Apex 3.2.x
I can authenticate fine with my custom authentication and all of my pages work okay except for one page that uses the Interactive Report feature. When I click 'Filter' then enter the column name, operation (contains, =, like, etc.) and the expression, then click the 'Apply' button, the page just re-displays and my filter information is missing?
If I first login to Apex, select and run my application, the Interactive Report features work just fine. What's missing?More information:
After login into my Apex workspace (development environment), when I display the Interactive Report and click debug I see this debug message:
"using existing session report settings"
When I login using my application's custom authentication and click debug I see this debug message:
"creating session report settings as copy of public saved report"
Based on this, it appears that my session info in not set correctly when using custom authentication... but I'm not sure what needs to be set.

Dynamic Checkboxes on Interactive Report
I have an interactive report that currently lists a row of values:
Field1
Val1
Val2
Val3
I would like to place a text-field at the top of this interactive report with a submit button:
[textbox] [submit button]
Field 1
Val1
Val2
Va3
Then I would like to have checkboxes [] appear in each row:
[textbox] [submit button]
Field1 | Checkbox
Val1 | []
Val2 | []
Val3 | []
Then I would like to make it so that the user enters some text into the textbox and selects any number of the row checkboxes. Upon hitting submit, a procedure will run that accepts each Field1 value and inserts a record into a table containing 2 fields: the Field1 value and the textbox text.
So the following user input:
[Test text in the textbox.] [submit button]
Field1 | Checkbox
Val1 | []
Val2 | [x]
Va3 | [x]
After hitting the submit button, a procedure would be called that would insert 2 records into a table:
Field1 | Field2
Val2 | Test text in the textbox.
Val3 | Test text in the textbox.
Note that there is no entry for Val1 because its checkbox was not checked when the user pressed submit.
What can I do to make this happen? I appreciate any help you can offer.Thanks for sharing
I am having exactly the same problem.
I have an interactive report with the following SQL.
select RSN_CD,
DESC,
APEX_ITEM.CHECKBOX(1,RSN_CD) "Select"
from CAN_RSN
I've set the 'Select' column's type to 'Standard Report Column'. But the checkbox does not appear on the report.
Apex Version: 4.0.1.00.03
Thanks. -
Changing the default number of rows displayed in a interactive report
Hi,
I have a sql query based interactive report but i cant change the default number of pages i.e 15.
is there any way to change the number of rows displayed.
Thank you,
rakeshHi,
That was very useful document that you shared, yes that is correct we can so it this way but there is another way doing it where in if you go to the report attribute section and in that there is Layout and Pagination and under
that you can fix the number of rows, and over there we can also accept values from page item such as if the page item value changes the number of rows displayed in the report changes dynamically.
In my report i get only pagination but not a option for layout.
Any help will be appreciated.
And also where i can get the links to the similar document that you have shared ?

ORA-20876 in csv export from interactive report = Possibly a bug?
Hi Apex team,
yesterday i tried to download data to csv from an interactive report. The resulting csv file contained a "ORA-20876: Stop APEX Engine" only and no other data. I played around with other reports in my application and had no problems with exports.
After some investigation i found out that the buggy report contains a column of display type "Display as text (based on a LOV, escape special characters)". When I changed this column type to "Standard Report Column" for example, the error didn't appear anymore and the csv export contained complete data.
Maybe this is a bug? The environment is Apex 4.1.1.00.23 on 11g (UTF-8). Is there a workaround available?
Regards,
Jens

Additional Information
The problem seems to occur only if a Shared Components LOV of type "Static" is referenced in the IR column.Hi,
what happens if you take the query from IR report and create a new classic report?
On this report enable csv export and then try the export.
Maybe that (format) data are causing export to fail.
Try to export just one row in your IR report (and classic report), so that you add where rownum < 2.
