Public site collections

We just finished migrating our 2007 site/collections to SP Foundation 2013 and everything seemed to be working fine internally but once we opened the site to the public, we are unable to reach any of the site collections (Page does not exist). The main site
works just fine though.
On the old 2007 server, each of our locations had its own site collection but for 2013, im not really sure what needs to be done to open them up for public access. I have already enabled anonymous access for each of the collections and have everything in
CA set that I'm aware of. What else might I be missing?

Hi Mungyun,
For accessing your SharePoint Sites in the internet, you will need to map the Internet side (public) IP address and TCP port to the inside (private) IP address and port. This is because your internal network will use private IP addresses that are not directly
accessible on the Internet (10.x.x.x or 172.16.x.x or 192.168.x.x addresses). This process is known as network address translation (NAT).

    What I need is to is to add a mapping to do is to add a mapping
    Mappings to crawled properties
    With powershell.
    Assume that a full crawl has finished. That all crawled properties exist.
    I want to add "ows_GoPro_x0020_Code" and I also want to change the Alias to "ProjectNumber"
    What is the best way to do this via powershell for SharePoint 2013 online?
    Do I need to build a sandboxed solution for this?

    HI,i would recommend  run the PowerShell cmdlet to check if this website exists. Here are the detailed steps:
    1. Set up the SharePoint Online Management Shell Windows PowerShell environment
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fp161372.aspx
    2. Run the command Get-SPOSite, it will return all site collections.
    3. Check if the problematic public site collection is shown in the result. If it shows up, run another command to remove it. For example:
    Remove-SPOSite -Identity https://expertsharepoint/sites/site1 -NoWait
    This will remove the site collection named https://expertsharepoint/sites/site1 from the site collections list and moves it to the Recycle Bin.
    4. Delete the site from the Recycle Bin:
    Remove-SPODeletedSite -Identity https://expertsharepoint/sites/site1

    A sharepoint site owner deleted their site by going to site settings delete this site.  This didn't remove the site collection from the Sharepoint Online admin portal in Office 365.  When I attempt to delete here I get the following error "

  • Internet access to new sharepoint foundation 2013 site collection

    I had sharepoint 2010 installed on my WHS 2011. I successfuly created a new web application and site collection. I created a new SP default site on a port different from 80 and restarted the WHS 2011 default site in IIS. I could
    see both the WHS 2011 and SP 2010 default sites from the server, my client PCs, and from my office. Great!
    I uninstalled SP Foundations 2010 and installed SP Foundation 2013. I successfully created a web application on the same port I had used for SP Foundations 2010 because the firewall rule on my server and the port forwarding on my router
    where already in place. I again restarted the WHS 2011 default site in IIS. I can see the WHS 2011 and SP 2013 Foundation default sites from the server and my client computers. However, I can't see the SP Foundation 2013 site from anywhere outsite
    of my home network.
    Help someone?

    1. I removed the IIS bindings to port 80 for the home server default site. Now, I can reach my share point default site remotely on port 80 by going to
    http://x.home server.com and I can reach the home server default site by going to
    https://x.homesever.com/remote on port 443.
    2. Using Power Shell I created 3 host named site collections. I put the URLs to those collections in the server hot's file and disabled loopback. I can see the sites on hte server. However, how do I make my sites accessible remotely or maybe the correct
    term is publicly on computers outside the network?
    3. I started down the road of host named site collections because I want to make them accessible remotely or publicly without using the x.home server.com domain name. However, I am starting to think that I am missing an important piece to making this work.
    Thanks

  • How can I create a host name site collection when I have a 443 web application already created for App model?

    Hi all,
    I have a 2013 farm set up with the App model
    1 web application for path based site collection using host name
    1 web application with SSL (no host name)
    1 web application for mysite
    My business request is that  I need to migrate SSL enabled 2007 content to this farm and use host name site collections.  I tried to create one more web application for this without any luck (the 443 IIS folder is already used by another web application).
    I thought I bind the previous 443 web application with another IP address should be fine.  Seems like the IIS site is taken (https://server name:443) so it will not let me create one more.  How can I solve this problem so I can create the web application
    to host those host name site collections?  Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Sally

    Hi Trevor,
    Thanks again for your quick reply.  I try the option 2 right after your post.  I use my front end server name for public URL (https://WFEName:443) and it fails again.  The error message is:
    The directory C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\443 is already being used by another IIS Web Site.  Choose a different root directory for your new Web application.
    After reading more, I saw mix Hosted Name Site collection and Path-based site collection aren't recommended.  Unfortunately I already have Path-based site collection created with App model web application
    (the web application without host name) in my farm.  In my Option 2, that web application without host name is used for App routing.  This takes the root folder 443 which will not allow any other web application to use the same name again.
    Does that mean we can't create Host Named Site collection in the same farm?  Is there any configuration I need to check?
    Thanks again.

  • Sharepoint 2013 - domain configuration, external users, creating subsite in site collection, moving subsites

    Hello all, first of all thank you for reading this post. Please bare with me, I am new with this environnement. I have had several problems in past week trying to configure a local sharepoint server 2013, most of it went well but now I am stuck and I badly
    need help! I intend to make sharepoint available through the Ethernet connection in my office.
    Here is my config:
    Sharepoint 2013 (local)
    Microsoft SQL 2012
    Microsoft Server 2012
    I am able to access the sub-site I created in the Sharepoint Central Administration Web Application.
    My first problem is, I created another Web Application with the following URL config http://intranet.[domain].com but I am not able to access it through my browser. It seems to point to bad IP I probably configured accidentally a CNAME on my hosting Cpanel
    with the IP 192.168.1.199. So, When I ping the URL I do not get any connection. Just that it couldn't connect to 192.168.1.199. Now I added a CNAME on my CPANEL for the URL http://intranet.[domain].com --> 127.0.0.1. Is this the correct way to do it?
    More information: The DNS manager has been configured following this tutorial:
    Create SharePoint 2013 Web Application
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yW7LT99eUMs
    I am not too sure of the proper configuration for the IIS Manager.
    Anomymous Authentication is enabled
    Windows Authentication is enabled
    Everything else is disabled.
    My second problem is that I cannot invite any user to the site. Even the one that have the email corresponding to our domain. Will I be able to invite parent domain users if the Web Apllication is properly configured with the CNAME on the Cpanel?
    I tried to activate the External user invitation feature from Site Collection Features but it's not in the list. I am logged in as an administrator but next to the wrench it says "System Account" (with an arrow pointing down) so I guess this is
    the "logged in user as..."? Am I missing something here?
    Any advices would be greatly welcomed. I've run out of ideas.
    Much appreciated,
    Herb

    Hello Ramu, thank you for your fast reply.
    Quote Ramu: "You have to create A record called intranet.your-domain.com points to your SharePoint Server
    IP and also loop back ip address in the host file entry on the SharePoint server(127.0.0.1  intranet.SharePoint.com)"
    Is this a record on our corporate website Cpanel? What should I put in the "Address" field of
    the Record (we do not have static IP)?
    For the loop back, is this on the DNS Manager of our local Sharepoint 2013 server?
    Quote Ramu: "3.
    if you want to publish this externally, then your site needs to publish in your Network and it should points to your public static IP in your public domain control panel(Cpanel)."
    In the first scenario where I only want intranet access, should everything be OK with the above mentionedconfiguration a DNS Record:
    Which address should it be for the record?
    Should I assign a fix IP to our server like 192.168.1.55?
    What if another desktop computer gets an IP conflict with the server
    fix IP, or what if we have to shut down the server everyday will the server IP change ?
    General question: From what I understand, it is possible to put a DNS Record on the public Cpanel from our corporate website with a local IP that will only be resolved
    if accessed through the local network? Ex.: Name: intranet.[our-corporate-public-domain].com, Address: 192.168.1.55 ?
    Much appreciated RAMU.
    Regards,
    Herb

  • Is it possible to move content between private and public sites after publishing the latter?

    Hi. Is anyone else in this position? My institution kept its original iTunes U site after migrating our public content to the new public site last year. We now have separate public and private (university log-in only) sites and must maintain both. The Public Site Administrator allowed the copying of existing content from the original iTunes U site to the new public site, but ONLY prior to publication of the public site. I have two related questions for the community:
    1) How is it possible to maintain a workflow in which faculty create a course for the private iTunes U site (wanting to keep the content restricted to our students while the course is live), but then move the content over to the public site once the semester ends?
    2) With the new app for Courses and the Course Manager on the public site, what do we do with the courses already created by faculty as Collections (either in the public or private sites)?
    I hope there are folks out there that can help.
    Thanks!
    Kevin

    I'd like to see a discussion on this exact topic as well. Have you determined yet how to move a private course (apple hosted) to the public site? Can you use an RSS feed from the private?

  • Problem with setting Created, Modified, Author, Editor on file i Site Collection from Client SDK

    Hello,
    I have a piece of code that is used for converting files from a shared file area to SharePoint for customers that move to SharePoint and Dynamics CRM. The relation to Dynamics CRM calls for using custom code an not existing conversion tools.
    The code I wrote works fine if the file sent to a regular site in SharePoint, but if I try to use the same code for files in the Site Collection. If I use the address for the site collection in the constructor for the ClientContext, and the relative URL
    from that for the file, both the upload and the setting of the attributes fails (I do make sure the file is there before trying to set the attributes).
    After some experimentation I am able to upload the file, by creating the client context with the main site URL, and adding the site collection path elements ("/sites/crm") to the path for the file, but using the same the setting of the attributes
    fails.
    I have tried some other variant where the site collection elements are in the path for both the ClientContext and the file path. Then the upload fails, the file retrival (GetFileByServerRelativeUrl) works, but the retrival of the attributes then fails.
    The code below illustrates the variations.
    Can someone please explain what I am doing wrong, or is this a bug in the SDK?

    Hello,
    Thanks for your effort, but you are not addressing the problem.
    As I tried to explain, setting the date works fine in the case where there is no site collection involved. There is no reason to believe that this will be different when in a site collection. Also the logon works fine in borth cases. The FieldUserValue.FromUser
    can take either an email, or a prefered name. I tested both.

  • Get site collection url, site url and list url from a full uri?

    If I have incoming: only URI's of the format http://a.b.c/d/e/f/g/h/i/j/k/l/m/n/o/p.docx
    (And these are coming from multiple farms and multiple site collections) (and i have a web api on some remote server) (and have all the authentication details)
    And I want to query just the single the item via csom : check one column and if value="yes" then download the doc:
    a. how do i get the absolute site url out of it for " clientcontext ctx = new clientcontext(THISURL) "
    b. how do i then get the list uri out of it to push a caml query to to then retrieve it
    I could :
    a. strip off the filename, that is the easy part :)
    b.  I could paste "/_api/contextinfo" behind it and POST it first as a httprequest. Then first get the site and web url and later on
    find a way to find the list url (which is probably the first item behind the fullWebUrl), but it seems weird to mix this in the mix
    Basically im looking for something that tells me what is what in http://a.b.c/d/e/f/g/h/i/j/k/l/m/n/o/p.docx

    Sorry, GetList is only available in the O365 version of Microsoft.SharePoint.Client. If you could test for a root site collection and if there is not one then take the scheme ... + Uri.segments[0] and then get the context. After that you can use
    the GetFileByServerRelativeUrl. The following demonstrates this.
    public static void GetFileList()
    string fileUrl = "http://basesmc15/teamonesubone/teamsubonesubone/Shared%20Documents/folderholder/newauthor6.pdf";
    Uri fileUri = new Uri(fileUrl);
    Uri webUrl;
    ClientContext rootContext = new ClientContext(fileUri.Scheme + Uri.SchemeDelimiter + fileUri.Host);
    webUrl = Web.WebUrlFromPageUrlDirect(rootContext, fileUri);
    ClientContext subContext = new ClientContext(webUrl.ToString());
    File file = subContext.Web.GetFileByServerRelativeUrl(fileUri.AbsolutePath);
    List list = file.ListItemAllFields.ParentList;
    subContext.Load(list);
    subContext.ExecuteQuery();

  • Calendar Overlay Across Multiple Site Collections

    I have searched the forums and have not found a solution to this question.
    We are having trouble creating calendar overlays across site collections.
    Specifics:
    1. This is a single farm SharePoint 2013 installation.  Version: 15.0.4481.1005
    2. We have a single web application http://sharepointweb on port 80
    3. We are using host-named site collections
    4. We have separated the different departments into separate site collections because we want to take advantage of separate content databases.
    When we create calendar overlays between calendar lists within a single site collection...it works fine.  When we try to create calendar overlays between site collections (again, within a single web app) it fails with the message "Unable
    to find specified web in the given URL".

    Hi Roo,
    i tried some steps, i agree with you that seems calendar overlay cant do good across web application,
    from http://y:1234/ and http://y:4563/. seems there are limitation here.
    when i extend my web app, usually i create new web app as internal/external/public, then i guess issue is happened.
    so, anyway, i got a bit curious if your environment also came out with the same result:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2025977
    at the kb, it was stated, that it may not able to find another site other than the default web app.
    but, while i tried in the same web app, the issue not there.
    so i tried to create new site collection, with lots of subsites, http://y:1234/. then have http://y.1234/sites/123 and http://y.1234/sites/456, for example, i add new calendar and create overlay, seems it can resolve each one and another.
    perhaps you can check this article:

  • Having thousands of Host-Named Site Collections - which authentication type?

    So Microsoft seems to state the claims + Host-Named Site Collection (HNSC) approach is the way to go forward.
    Assuming we have thousands of site collections, and we don't want to go with good ol' NTLM authentication as our claim authentication type, then how should we authenticate?
    Both Kerberos and SAML would be a nightmare to manage, since for Kerberos we need to register a Service Principal Name (SPN) per HNSC. For SAML we would end up in a similar situation, since this would require us to configure a relying party
    + realm for every HNSC.

    Please see the documentation on using managed paths with host named site collections.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288637(v=office.14).aspx#section5
    You would be very unlikely to have thousands of individual host names, I would never recommend such an architecture to a customer.  Instead, you are much more likely to use managed paths (/sites/, /personal/, etc) in combination with host names, significantly
    reducing the number of individual host names while still allowing you to easily scale to thousands of site collections.
    In Office 365, each tenant is provisioned with 3 top-level host names (<tenant>.sharepoint.com, <tenant>-public.sharepoint.com, and <tenant>-my.sharepoint.com), all subsequent site collections are provisioned using managed paths.
    Note that this is not really a question particular to HNSC.  If you decide to not use host-named site collections but want to use individual host names using web applications, you get far less.  According to our Software Boundaries and
    Limits document, you get maximum 20 web applications per farm with a maximum 5 AAMs per web application, yielding a maximum 100 individual host names.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262787.aspx
    While you can achieve more host names using HNSC, I would strongly discourage this design and instead seek to leverage managed paths.

  • Public Site Manager - GIF files

    It appears the PSM will only accept JPG or PNG files for album art. Since our current site uses GIF file in many feeds, I assume I'll have to convert all to a supported format. Question: Do I also have to manually replace each image that was manually uploaded to our iTunes U site?
    Or will the new PSM pull all images from rss feeds and trash any manually uploaded images from our old iTunes U site?
    thanks

    Found the answer
    http://deimos.apple.com/rsrc/doc/UsingiTunesUPublicSiteManager/CommonQuestions/c hapter14_section4.html
    iTunes U Public Site Manager copies course images from your original course pages, *except for feed groups*, and displays the images in your new collection pages as collection art. For collections created from a feed group in your original site, include image details within the feed itself. iTunes U Public Site Manager uses elements within the feed to populate your collection page.

  • Odd Behavior in Public Site Manager

    Greetings All;
    Is anyone else experiencing unusual behavior in Public Site Manager?  Specifically, after I created a new Collection and
    began to add content, I began to get a "Sorry, this page is currently being edited. Please try again later." message.
    Also, my session seems to "time out" almost immediately.

    Hi Duncan - I work with about six collections in Wellesley College's iTunes U site. Is there any specific information that might help you?
    Late last afternoon around 2-3, I was able to publish my item (essentially by going to the item which was already visible in the collection and resaving it/signing out very quickly before the timeout had a chance to get me.) After that, I had noticed that the timeouts were no longer occuring as quickly, but the next time I logged in I got an odd error when I clicked the "return to collections manager" link. Unfortunately I did not think to copy the error, though it was a white page and looked like some sort of script error.
    However, when I went back to take a screenshot of it today, everything looks fine as far as I can see. No unnaturally quick timeouts or links throwing errors. (I do still get the "sorry, currently being edited" if I close the browser on a collection without properly signing out, but as far as I'm aware that is normal.)
    I will try to find some new content to upload and report back if there are any problems with that. But for now it looks like we're fine here.
    Best of luck with your own, Syd.

  • Input requested: Issues in upgrading search for public site to 2013

    We have a fully branded 2010 public site that uses search.  In our upgrade to 2013:
    We'd would prefer not to perform the visual upgrade because we don't want to update our master pages and page layouts.
    Search currently uses a 2010 search scope to limit results to the single site collection - there are other portals on the farm.
    We can't use the new 2013 result sources that replace search scopes, so I'm looking for a good way to limit search results.  I know I could create a separate search service app for the portal, but I'd prefer not to do that.
    Does anyone see a way to do this without performing the 2013 visual upgrade OR using custom development OR creating a new search service application that serves just the 2013.  I know I'm asking to have my cake and eat it, too, but I want to exhaust
    all easy options before I try something more complex.
    Thanks for your help.
    Nate

    Hi Nate,
    As I understand, you are concerning about custom branding and search scope issues when upgrading from SharePoint 2010 to 2013 version.
    For custom branding, SharePoint 2013 introduces a new user interface that is lightweight, fast, and fluid. To get this new experience, you must upgrade to the new UI. If your site collection contains custom branding, we recommend that, before you upgrade,
    you first create an evaluation site collection where you can test and re-create your custom branding in a SharePoint 2013 environment. For more information:

    For search scope feature in SharePoint 2010 search, we have content source now. To limit search results, we could use Query Rules and Result Sources:
