  • Publishing to a non .mac site

Hi, is there a step by step procedure to publish a site to a non .mac host?
    Thanks

I changed the name, uploaded the folder, and still
    nothing.
When you look at your web space with your ftp program, you should see two items: index.html and a folder called Kiiskakuna. Do you?
    When I hit publish,
it automatically publishes to iMac. I have to use
Cyberduck to upload to the other server. Is this
    correct?
Yes. You do not hit publish, you use the menu item to publish to a folder. It is a good idea to select your desktop as the place to publish to so you don't get mixed up. After publishing that way, you should see two items on your desktop, index.html and a folder called Kiiskakuna. You use Cyberduck to upload these to your web space.
Right now it is clear that there is no index.html in your web space, so you must not have uploaded that. It must be outside the folder Kiiskakuna and it must be the one that iWeb created outside the folder Kiiskakuna. There is another one inside the folder, but that and everything else there should get uploaded automatically when you upload the folder.
What is the name of the topmost page of your site inside the iWeb app?

  • Can PC (i.e.,Windows/ non-Mac) users publish to an iWeb '09 Site?

I would like to create a website in iWeb '09 which will require multiple users to contribute/publish content, but the other site collaborators do not have Macs, just Windows-based PCs.
    Question:
If multiple people are needed to publish content to the same iWeb '09 website, do each of them have to have a Mac with the iWeb '09 program on their respective computers? Or:
    1) Is there a web-based iWeb publishing/content management tool (like Joomla or Zope)?
    2) Can one person publish using iWeb and others add/change content with another publishing tool/program?
    Any other suggestions are welcome.
    thanks.

Joomla should be Mac and PC compatible.
Once published, you can alter the site by using a simple text editor such as Text Edit on a Mac, Text Wrangler or Taco or any other text editor. You can use Dreamweaver, which is Mac and PC compatible.

  • Is it possible to publish one site to mac site and another site to a school

I have an "About me" page which I wish students to have access to - but I don't want them to have access to the rest of my site - can I publish either just the "about me" page to a different school server or can I create a new site with just an about me page and publish that site to my school server and my personal site to mac site?

    Yes.
The easiest way is to use separate domain.sites2 files. There are several sites that offer instructions for doing this. One is Apnewbie's Site Separation help page.

  • Publishing to a non dot Mac site

I'm trying to make a slideshow in iWeb and upload it to my usual web pages which are not dot mac sites. Nothing is working, so I wonder if maybe that's not an option and iWeb can only be used to publish on Mac.com pages.

Big sloppy gooey mess. I published it all to Dreamweaver and then I got into the icky sticky html and managed to make the slide show on a black background, but the timing didn't exist and I couldn't reduce the screen size to allow for any text or hyperlinks. So, I thought I'll just do it the old way in Dreamweaver, but I have the 30 day trial which doesn't seem to permit me to use my older DW. Now, the shockwave and flash don't work any more. I suppose that's so I'll buy more stuff. Discouraged? I sure am. It seems all this software has little things planted in them that scream Buy More! Now I'll see if there's a free trial on Flash, but it's getting more confusing. I like the simplicity of iWeb, but I need more control. I like the control of Dreamweaver, but it's sloppy.

  • Cannot publish from iWeb to .Mac, Help please!

I am trying to publish to my site from here in Australia. I was able to publish in the country at the beggining of the trip, but can not now. I get the message "Publish Error - an error occurred while publishing file /Web/Site/iWeb/Site/Blog". I had updated two blog entries and changed the date on an entry. Since then in trying to fix the issue I deleted both of those entries. I have been through .mac support troubleshooting steps to ensure it is not a network error. I have been able to publish to a folder, but when I try to copy the Blog folder from that folder to my iDisk I get "The Finder cannont complete the operation because some data in "" could not be read or written (Error code -36)". Since then they asked that I try to publish from a trial .Mac account or from a new OS X user account on my machine. Both of those attempts failed as well, which they say indicates it's not a .mac account or OS X user set up issue. They asked that I put a copy of my domain file out in the public drive for them to look at, but when I try to do that it goes through and does the copying and then freezes at "Copying Domain.zip to Public, Copied 599.5MB of 599.5MB (Closing file...) - Please wait". Then I get the same error code -36 and am disconnected from iweb. Can anyone out there help please?
    Thanks!

Thanks and Merry Christmas to you too! I have experienced both modem/network problems and was unable to publish in Tahiti and Cook Islands because of that and now these problems which have nothing to do with network it seems - so yours may or may not be network related. I was able to cheat and copied my "Site" folder from my hard drive to my iDisk rather then publishing. I can't remember if you've tried this or not (read a lot of strings today) but you can publish to a folder and then copy that folder to your iDisk at /Web/Sites/iWeb/Site as "Site" after first renaming the one that is out there now. Let me know if you have any questions on how to do it. It sounds like you are traveling like we are and anxious to communicate with friends and family back home. When you are bored, our site is web.mac.com/baganworldtour.
At least we now have our first update out there in two weeks. But it took almost two hours to copy the folder and this won't work forever. Hopefully we, whether by the discussion room or .mac support next week, will be able to fix the problem for real.
    Thanks. Good Luck. Merry Christmas

  • Posting Webpage created in iPhoto to .mac site

I have "exported" an album using the file/export/webpage commands. In the new folder I created on the desktop, It created folders with all the images, thumbnails and pages in them, along with "Pages.html" documents for the main page, and the thirteen sub-pages.
This one works OK and properly, if I click on the main page html icon, although I would like it to look better. However, when I have tried all of the other options for exporting and sharing documents, including thru iWeb, either the order of the pictures is altered or the comments are lost, or both. (I have spent a lot of time organizing and adding comments to the individual (420) pictures. I don't want to redo it all.)
How do I get this folder onto my .Mac site? So it can be viewed by others?

    SJB:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Copy the folder to the Sites folder on your iDisk. You can do that by mounting your iDisk and doing it thru the finder. I use Transmit as it is about 2 to 3 times as fast in uploading and navigating around the iDisk.
Once in the Sites folder the URL for that gallery would be:
    http://homepage.mac.com/your .Mac account/gallery folder name/galllery folder name.html
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application, iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Using iWeb for non dot-mac sites

    Hi all,
I own a number of domains that I'd like to use iWeb on. Am I able to utilize iWeb for a non .mac domain, or do I need to use something like Dreamweaver?
    Many thanks.
    -Hugh

No, in fact I have a sneaky suspicion that not using dot-mac sites will eliminate a lot of problems other people have. You will also lose some of the effects like the nicer slideshow etc.
I have never used dot-mac and never encountered any of the uploading/publishing problems that are so often mentioned on this forum.
    Here is what you do:
After editing your website you choose :Publish to a folder.
This lets you choose a location on your hardrive into which all the necessary files will be compiled/rendered. In this folder you will find an htlm file plus a folder with the necessary files for easch of your pages.. This publishing is done lightning fasy pecause it is done locallly and not trhough your internetconnection like when you published to dot-mac. Also post-editing is easy and hassle free.
For editing and uploading my website I use "Transmit" but there are lots of other applications like "Fetch"
    What to upload?
Well I believe the jury is still out on this.
I just upload the contents of the published folder and that works for me. Other publish the whole folder plus the dummy "Index file" that is generated outside that folder. You will heve to find out for your self.
If any changes or editing has to be done afterwards, I republish and then just upload the altered files.
There is one more thing I do, and I believe others don't. I keep my domain file in the same folder where I keep the Published folder.
E.g. there is a festival website, so I have a folder "Festival" in which I keep the domains file, and the published "Festival website" folder.
This way it is easy to keep various different websites.
When you want to edit one of them, go to that folder and double click the domains file, this will start iWeb with the right website for you to edit.
    Really very easy.

  • What are slideshows like using 08 on "non-.Mac" sites?

Publishing to a straight URL here. Does 08 give a better slideshow on "non-.Mac" sites? 1.1.2 site were funky white and non-animated. Don't want to upgrade unless this is a sure thing. Thanks.

a quick look in this thread:

  • HTML snippets on non .mac sites

  • Lost link to my .mac site

I have had my domain name www.boxoflight.org automatically sending viewers to the .mac site I publish using iWeb. Two days ago, people trying to access my site got a 'can't find that site' page.
The person who manages my domain name said that the address for my iWeb home page had changed. Why would this have happened?
The only thing I can think of is that days before, I deleted my all of my old, unused Homepage pages except for my Downloads page. This was a few days before the problem surfaced. Could that have been it?
My iWeb home page was not the same as the home page I created long ago in Homepage. Why would they be connected in any way?
I don't want this to happen again and am not sure what to do or not do.
    Ideas?
    Thanks.

Question 1: Does this mean that, once I've created a
site with a specific name, I should not change the
    name of that site?
Not if you have used that specific name for forwarding. Or else change the forwarding to the new name.
Question 2: My .mac account is [email protected]
Does that mean my short url is
    web.mac.com/boxoflight?
    Yes.
And if I use that always, my
forwarding will always go to my page no matter what
the page is named in iWeb?
It will always go to the top page of the top site in your site organizer inside iWeb.

  • Can't publish my hyperlinks to entire site

i'm just trying to publish a 5-page site for the first time to my .mac address, and it only publishes the first page and the links won't take me to the other pages...the hyperlinks are enabled in iweb but don't seem to work once I'm on the .mac site...any ideas what I have done wrong?

Could you post the url so we can take a look?

  • How do I publish to my simple .Mac URL (and not a rediculously long one?)

I've had .Mac for a while and I believe my homepage used to be something like "http://homepage.mac.com/davidwilkie/" and now, after publishing with iWeb, it is "http://web.mac.com/davidwilkie/iWeb/Jackson%20&%20Carson/Welcome.html"
If I go to the simple one, I get an error. And there is no listing of my homepage site from within my online .Mac service.
How do I get the site to publish to my simple .Mac URL?

okay, so then what is with the old one,
    http://homepage.mac.com/davidwilkie/?
Are iWeb and .Mac websites different?
Yes, iWeb and Homepage are totally separate systems, though both on .Mac. You can link between them, but you can't use iWeb to change anything in Homepage.

  • Securely publishing iCal calendars via .Mac

i want to securely share (publish/subscribe) calendars among just the members of my family. we share a .Mac family account with a Shared iDisk folder that is, in theory, for our exclusive use.
if i publish to .Mac, it appears the calendars are viewable by anyone with the correct URL, not just my family.
if i try to publish to a Private Server using the URL for the .Mac Shared folder (Base URL: http://idisk.mac.com/myaccountname/Shared), the required Login: account name intrudes into the syntax for the pathname to the location. text box says "Publish failed for calendar "xxx". Could not create calendar on http://[email protected]/accountname/shared/calendarname.ics"
any ideas on how to securely share iCal calendars among family members on .Mac?
    thanks very much.

after a couple more hours of digging, i answered my own question.
here's a relevent article with the answer: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61725
the .Mac Family Pack includes an iDisk Shared folder to which all accounts (master account and up to 4 sub-accounts) have shared access. by substituting "Shared" for "Documents" in the URL pathname syntax in the article, i was able to publish calendars into the Shared folder. then, subscriptions were per the article except that any family member's account name and password provided access to the folder.
i think i just had the syntax wrong for publishing to begin with. i don't remember for sure, but i think i may have been using "www.mac.com" instead of "idisk.mac.com".
anyway, it appears to be working.

  • .Mac site to personal domain

    Hi all,
does any of you know how is it possible that a .Mac site is transferred to a personal domain? It's not redirected: both sites are identical.
    See here
    h**p://web.mac.com/uomoragno/blog/spider-mac/spider-mac.html
    And here
    h**p://www.spider-mac.com/blog/spider-mac/spider-mac.html
    Thanks.
    --Antonio

You don't have to transfer anything.
With a Personal Domain your pages are stil on MMe. You have to add a CNAME at your registrar.
Go to your MME account and click Personal domain.
    https://secure.me.com/account/
Then click +Find a Help topic+. Then click Account.
If on the other hand you mean to host your webpages at some provider, then you have to publish to a folder and upload the folder to that host.
