Publish as an executable file?

Pardon me if I stumble around a bit here as I am a newbie to the group and Captivate.  I have a file that is ready to publish and would like to end up with something that executes with one click from the user.  I see something that works on my screen, but it isin a folder with the other needed files.I would like to have a link that the user clicks on and Wham Bam, they see the presentation without seeing folders or anything else.I'm sure this is easy, but have not seen it explained anywhere.  Can you nice people help?

Thank You for your response.  I hope that as time goes on I can give and take a lot in the this forum.
Let me give you some history so you'll better understand what I am trying to do.  On a SharePoint site, I have several WebEx recorded trainings for our email system.  They are links with a short name that people can get to with one click.  I want the same one click link to the Captivate exe.  If I set it up while the files are in a folder, I will have to set all the paths to make it work.  I don't know how to get that started.  I do not want the users to go into any folders or even have access to the files, just an executable link.  From what you have said, it would work by creating an exe file when publishing.  Is that correct?  Then I could just upload it to our SharePoint site and be done with it.  Correct?
Again, thank you for your time and expertise!!!

  • Captivate 8 to publish as an executable file?

  • Problems publishing executable files

I am using Captivate 5 on PC and am having some trouble publishing executable files. We have a 3 slide (about 4 min) project with screen capture, audio and closed captioning. We need executables for both PC and MAC platforms. Her's my problem(s).
For PC (.exe) I'm getting a message that tells me the icon (.ico) file isn't right. What size should it be and should it be a single icon or a multi-res icon bundle?
For MAC (.app) First, I can't add an Icon. Anyone know why this option becomes "greyed out"?
And while the file seems to publish OK, when I try to run it on a MAC, it tells me the file is damaged. I can't begin to figure our why as it publishes the proper folder and (seemingly) all the right files and subfolders.
I've looked everywhere (but here (until now)) and I'm out of ideas.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I've had Windows executable icon production problems in the past as well.  This just appeared in the Cp5.5 help - and it worked for me (finally!):
    Custom Icon
You can customize the icon that is displayed for the executable file. Click Browse (...) to add a custom icon for your file. Ensure that the icon file has a .ico extension (on Windows)/.icns (for Mac).(Applies only for Windows) You can create a custom icon file using any software meant for that purpose. Ensure that the file you create contains seven images of the following dimensions:
    256x256 32-bit color image
    48x48 32-bit color image
    48x48 8-bit color image
    32x32 32-bit color image
    32x32 8-bit color image
    16x16 32-bit color image
    16x16 8-bit color image
Then I used this:  http://icofx.ro/ - a really slick icon creater/packager.  (.ico files can be a compilation of images)
    Hope this helps others.

  • Publishing to Windows Executable (exe) play options

Captivate 4.0.1 build 1658. On any Windows platform.
When I publish to "Windows Executable" and then play the resultant EXE file, the window is a fixed size with no scroll bars. This presents a problem when customers attempt to run the EXE on very small (e.g. Netbooks, etc) computer screens, as they cannot see the player controls at the bottom of the window.
    Is there any way to
force scroll bars on the play back
allow for shortcut keys (Ctrl+P for Play; Ctrl+Shft+P for Pause, etc) to allow the user to control playback
What other options might there be that I am not thinking of?
I use EXE because I need this video tutorial to play on Windows boxes after product installation.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

I've never published CP projects that way so not sure...
But I've published Flash projects that needed to be .exe's and have used SWFKit with great success.
Very versatile tool, inexpensive, and lots of options. I'd be surprised if it couldn't do what you need.
If so, then publish your CP file to SWF then embed that SWF into an .exe with SWFKit...

  • Can Director 11 's executable file support MAC 10.2 and 10.3?

I used Director 11 in PC, and published MAC executable file
    -- run.app,
Run.app can run under MAC 10.4 and 10.5, but can not run
    under 10.2 and
    10.3.
What is the problem? How to solve it?
You know, Executable file published by Director 2004 can run
    10.2-10.5.
    Thanks.

I can't believe this - I'm stunned. Stunned to point of near
    death...
I've just posted elsewhere on this topic and since found
this. If only I'd found this out before I started a new project in
D11. Now I'll have to start the entire thing again in MX04!!!
There's progress! I'm so glad I spent loads of money (even more in
rip-off UK) to upgrade and now find out that the software is
    USELESS!!!
I really can't believe this... Up until now I was ok about
D11 - it was an improvement. Now I hate it with a passion (due to
the fact I'm going to be awake for the next continuous 120

  • Adding hyperlinks to Flash Executable files

I'm using a demo version of Flash 5 to see if I'd like to
invest in a copy of Flash. I added hyperlinked text to to a flash
movie I produced, and when I uploaded the html added to a webpage,
when I click on the hyperlink it successfully takes me to the
correct website. However, when I try clicking on the executable
file version of the same flash movie, published at the same time,
although I get the usual little hand when the put the cursor over
the hyperlink I'm not taken to any webpage.
Can anyone tell me what's going wrong?

  • Text Message: Unable to execute file for security ...

Whenever I'm viewing a text message, when I try to open up the "Options" menu, I see the above message, "Text Message: Unable to execute file for security reasons". This doesn't seem to impact the functionality of the menu at all, everything seems to work.
Anyone ever come across this before?
I've updated the phone (Nokia E66) to the latest software, and I've only got one application installed other than the default base install (Google calendar sync utility), removing that doesn't change the problem.
    Thanks in advance!

I get the same error after SW update to latest version when I try to run some apps

I can't open the vi in the moment. But by your description I think that I know the solution.
When you build the executable you've to add dinammically the vi's from report generator that aren't in your main vi hierarchy. So, you've to open the vi's and find those that are open trough "open vi reference" and add them dinamicaly.
And don't know if these tips are enough.
    From NI Zvezdana S.
"When you use the Report Generation Toolkit to build a stand-alone application with the Application Builder, you must add _Word Dynamic VIs.vi from _wordsub.llb and _Excel Dynamic VIs.vi from _exclsub.llb as dynamic VIs. These two VIs contain subVIs that are called dynamically by the high-level Report Generation VIs. I believe that if you grab these VIs from the (desired office version part of the) installation CD instead of from the development machine, then everything should work. "

  • Unix Executable files - need help to open

Hi folks, sorry i have been looking through previous discussions re these type of files but its all well and truley above me.  I have been given a video file and when copied to 'finder' it showed it was a unix executable file and it opened Terminal, again made no sense to me.  I was informed to download MPEG Streamclip with no luck and the jargon I have read is goobledegook to me, sorry.  Can anyone help pls in simple terms????

One thing you could try is to drop one of the files on to the vlc video player.  If the file is truely a video file then odds are vlc will figure that out and be able to play it.  It also has a menu to tell you info about the file so you could figure out what kind of file it actually is.
In the case of windows .wmv files you should add Flip4Mac.  That would allow you to play those with QuickTime.
Similarly add Perian to add more power to QuickTime so that it too could possibly handle those files like vlc.

  • How do I import old FCP projects that have mysteriously changed to Linux Executable files?  Is it as simple as renaming the files with the.fcp extension?

I had some FCP projects on an old G3 tower that I finally want to finish. I was able to grab everything, media, etc. to my macbook pro but all of the Final Cut Pro actual movies/projects have turned into "linux executable files" that FCP X won't import.
I tried googling this issue but didn't really see any good answers. Would it be as simple as renaming the files with the .fcp extension?  I can't recall if my old version (really old) of FCP saves projects as .mov or .fcp files, but I'm assuming I'm not the only person this has happened to.
    Thanks for your help!

I had some FCP projects on an old G3 tower that I finally want to finish.
What version of FCP was this? The project files can probably no longer be opened in the newer version of the OS. You could try adding the .fcp suffix, but I don't think it will help for this. Projects files are .fcp.
Regardless of the version, no legacy FCP projects will import into FCPX.
Media is a different matter. These are probably QuickTime .mov files. If these are appearing as Unix ececutables, they're probably not recoverable either.

  • How to create an executable file by including my C# project and database(SQL) in visual studio ?

    Hi,
I had developed a project in visual studio c# and my database in SQL server. How can i create a executable file including both.
can any one give me a solution for this.
I am trying to make executable in installshield.
    Thank you

    Hi,
Try to use custom actions to call some managed method, execute the SQL script to create and initialize the database in the method.
Check this article, it should be helpful for you to create the script and installation:

I want to run local PC executable files from inside the portal. To be more specific I want to be able to open the Outlook and some powerbuilder executable applications.

    Hi cmdrb,
to run an executable you use SystemExec function.
To get the output of your (LabVIEW-made) executable you need to program some data transfer means: you may use network functions or file functions. In both cases your "LabVIEW executable" needs to provide that options…

  • How can I open a subvi when running a vi in an application (executable file)

I have a vi that I converted into an executable file.  I would like to run it and at the same time be able to open the front panel of one of its subvis.  Does anybody know how to do that?
    Thanks,
    Jerome.

You can set the SubVI to "Open Front Panel when Called" and "Close Afterward if Originally Closed" - that makes it a pop-up window. When your main calls it, the subVI window opens up. You do stuff, click the DONE button, and it disappears, and the main is up front again. (Make sure your subVI is MODAL if you do this).
You can use the VI SERVER to load the VI, given a path to it. You can set the subVI to "Open Front Panel when Loaded", or you can set FRONT PANEL.OPEN to TRUE when you want it to appear, and FALSE when you want it to go away.
You can make a subpanel on your main, and have the subVI inserted into that.
