Publish Changes is grayed out.

Publish Site Changes, Publish Entire Site, and Visit Published Site are all grayed out. Publish Site Settings is set to MobileMe. I am using iWeb version 3.04. Do I need to upgrade?

Try changing the settings to a local folder to see if you can publish and then switch back to MobileMe.
Otherwise, try the troubleshooting steps under "Fix iWeb" here...

  • Publish to .Mac grayed out

I published an iWeb site, and then updated and published it again. I didn't see all of my changes, which likely was a left over cache issue. However, using the sledgehammer approach, I accessed my iDisk and deleted the published site's files and folders with the goal re-publishing the new files. Now in iWeb, the Publish button is grayed out (unavailable) as is File>Publish to .Mac. Granted, deleting the site the way I did from iDisk was probably wrong, but who knew? So I've rebooted, cleared cache, and even synced in an attempt to somehow re-anitimate (make available; ungray) the iWeb Publish button. I can and have published to a folder. Any ideas? Thanks.

I think you need to change something slightly to turn the pages red so you can republish. iWeb doesn't know you deleted your site.

  • Desktop "Change Picture" grayed out

Before installing Tiger I was able to select "Change Picture" in System Preferences Desktop. Now that feature is grayed out, and a single picture is continuously display on the desktop. Any idea how to fix this?

    carpet1,
You said:The file does contain an instruction in the default folder "Change..Never." When I tried to change this to 0 and save, finder could no longer find the file. I'm lost!I too am lost. My previous instructions did not specify any file alterations. I do not know, nor did I specify that you should make any changes to the com.apple.desktop.plist file. The fact that the file was altered without a plist editor probably disrupted normal behavior.
If I open my com.apple.desktop.plist file with TextWrangler, I do see the following string...(YPlacementVChangeVRandomPlacementKeyTag_ChooseFolderPathCollectionStringZ ChangePathZChangeTime^ImageFileAlias]TimerPopUpTag]ImageFilePathZFillScreenUNev er), but I do not know how to change specific phrases in this plist to alter desktop behavior.
Whenever a plist file is removed from preferences folder a new one will be regenerated to replace the old one after a log out/in or restart. That means you will have an old com.apple.desktop.plist file on your Desktop and a new com.apple.desktop.plist in your ~Library/Preferences Folder. You should be able to discard the old plist and allow the new one to resume normal default functions. Plist files should not normally be edited unless you know specifically with certainty what effect your changes will produce.
Repeat the plist removal procedure if necessary, but do not make any changes to the replacement file. Permission repair may be considered without penalty.

  • File "Publish" menu still grayed out

I had IT install Tech Comm Suite 3.5 for me a month or so ago and am finally  experimenting with publishing docs to ePub format from Frame. However, my Publish menu option is still grayed out. Any ideas why? Could have the TCS been installed incorrectly?

No. It's my understanding that from Frame 10, using the Tech Comm Suite, I should be able to publish EPUB files straight from Frame without RH. Is this incorrect?

  • Desktop Image "Change" option grayed out

I just installed the firmware update that SoftwareUpdate recommended. The same day I installed iLife'08 so I'm not sure what to blame for this but the new event image folders provided by iPhoto will not "change every _ minutes." The option (in System Prefs) in the dialogue box turns gray when I select one of the iPhoto folders. It works fine for any of the apple image folders. I'm sure it's intended to still work but something's up. Any ideas?
    Thanks,

  • Rotate Format Field 180. Height Grays out and changes from 2 to 1????

Is there a reason why when I create a Format Field with a height of 2, and then when I rotate the field 180, then the height changes to 1 and can not be changed. (Grayed out).
Is there anyway to make the height back to 2? Strange why this would happen.
    I'm using v5.5.1.280.
    Thanks

Well, I was about to send the email but before doing so I decided to see what the software says about rotating. Here a quote from the help system:
    >Output Designer does not support the rotation of multiple-line fields. If the rotate property for a multiple-line field is changed to something other then 0 (the default), Output Designer will automatically convert the multiple-line field to a single-line field. At the same time, Output Designer will gray out the height property for the field.
There doesn't seem to be a text rotation property but the help system states:
    >Rotated text labels are restricted to a single line, using a single font. Output Designer converts a multi-line text label to a single line when rotated.
My guess is that the programming team was able to rotate the field but ran into a problem keeping the height so they documented the restriction.
It looks like to get multiple lines there will just have to be multiple fields and some way to split up the data into those fields.

  • Can't delete grayed-out DNS server addresses

I want to replace two grayed-out DNS server addresses from the Network panel (under the DNS tab in "Advanced…"), to replace them with OpenDNS settings. But they can't be selected/deleted. How do I get around this problem?

That is correct - those are provided by your router and can not be deleted - you can add Open DNS servers (click the + sign) or log into the router admin page (I recommend this way) and have your router use the Open DNS servers fro everything on your network (this will change the grayed out ones)

  • Publish Site Changes Grayed Out

I'm having trouble publishing new pages to my website. Previously when I clicked on "Publish" the pages went directly to my MobileMe/iDisk account. iWeb would then ask if I wanted to tell others and/or go to the site. Now it tells me that my pages have been published to the "selected folder." I believe the problem stems from my installation of Webcrusher. Since my pages have a lot of images I want to do all I can to secure rapid loading of the pages and Webcrusher seemed a good solution. But I think it configured iWeb to load the pages to the "selected file". I have found the "selected file" and it did contain the new pages. So did my domain file in the standard iWeb folder in the Library Directory.
So, I want to get back to iWeb publishing directly to MobileMe but the Publish Site Changes button is grayed out. I have taken the following actions to reactivate the button: uninstalled Webcrusher (using Clean App), deleted the preferences file, rebooted (numerous times), reinstalled iLife '09, and tried launching iWeb by clicking directly on the domain file. Button is still gray.
I know that I have the option of using an FTP or even dragging the pages to iDisk (although that part confuses me since I can't really seem to find the "pages" just all of the bits and pieces of same) but I would really like to have the simplicity of my iWeb back.
    All help appreciated.

What is it you want to do at this time? If you want to start publishing directly to MMe the click on the site folder in iWeb and change the setting to Publish to MobileMe:
If you want to continue using WebCrusher this might be of some help: Old Toad's Tutorial #2 - Uploading only those published new or newly edited files when using a 3rd party FTP client.

  • Sending photos from iPhoto to FB the word "Publish" is grayed out.  How do I get it black again?, Sending photos from iPhoto to FB the word "Publish" is grayed out.  How do I get it black again?

I have been sending pics from my iPhoto to FaceBook for a long time.  Today I tried sending them from my iPhoto and after clicking FB a window comes up with the question Do you want to publish...........(whatever the pics are about)?  Then I choose the option of "everyone" "friends of friends" and "only friends".  After choosing my option I can then click on "publish" and the pics go to my profile page on FB, or they did until today...because the word "publish" is grayed out and won't allow me to send them.  Anyone got any suggestions why this got grayed out, and how can I fix it.
    Jimare.

Your problem is that you have been running a Referenced Library, and now you're trying to convert this to a Managed Library
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
Simply changing the setting in the Preferences will not do this. It just means that imports from here forward will be Managed. Those that were Referenced remain so.
Now, because you've moved the Referenced Files to the new disk, iPhoto cn't find them. So it throws the error message. This is one of the major reasons experience users recommend against Referenced Libraries.
No change you make at this point will have any effect. The Library will try and update and throw the errors.
    Options:
Let it run it's course and then fix it.
    Or
Give it up as a bad job, recover your Photos and start over from scratch.
    Regards
    TD
