Publish Error whilst publishing to .Mac from iWeb

Hello.
I have suddenly started getting an error "Publish Error. An error occured whilst publishing file xxx" whilst trying to publish my website from within iWeb.
I have the latest version of iWeb (1.1.2). It used to work OK and I have made no recent changes other than to add a new photograph page. I have plenty of free space on .Mac.
I have tried the following:
- Publishing to Folder (this works fine)
- Deleting the offending file. I then get the error on another file.
- Deleting the domain file and the com.apple.iweb.plist files in ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb and ~/Library/Preferences. I then tried uploading a default site template and got the same error.
- Following the steps on http://karreth.com/iweb/22070571-B241-4C09-840B-288E0EC491F6.html. Same error.
- Creating a new user account and publishing a default iWeb template. Same error.
- Manually deleting all site and rss content from iDisk using Finder, then Publish All to .Mac. Same error.
So, it seems that the error is not related to my web content, nor is it related to my iWeb configuration files. I can connect to my iDisk using Finder without problems and browse the contents, so it is not an issue with .Mac either.
How can I fix this? The error message is useless and I can't find any more detail in the console logs.
Thanks,
Paul

  • Can I publish to blogger from iWeb?

I want to publish from iWeb but I don't want to pay for a website, and I'm only going to blog for a couple of months while I am on vacation. Any Thoughts?

    No you can't.
Blogger is Google's blog and it is free, so sign into Google and you can create a blog for free directly there.
Your other alternative is to use http://www.wordpress.com.  This is also a free blogging service and if you are on vacation, you will be able to update it from any terminal you can get to - a PC or a Mac and you can do this online.  Once you don't need the blog anymore you can delete it from the WordPress servers and that's it.  You don't need to pay for a website.
Don't use the iWeb blog as it is too restrictive to use whilst travelling - just use either Google's blogger or WordPress.com at source, with both being free.

  • How do I publish multiple websites from iweb?

Hi, I'm new with iweb and .mac in general and wanted to know about publishing multiple accounts from my iweb.
I bought a five-user edition of .mac last week and I wanted to get at least three different websites up and running. One site is almost 50% done and has uploaded just fine but when I tried to create another site in iweb, I have no idea where it's going. I created a second account in .mac and it shows up (I can log into and everything) but how can I publish to my brand new site without the other one going through each and every time?
This question may sound really dumb but please bear and mind that I'm a newbie with iweb and mac (I just got this powerbook in Sept. 2006).
    Thanks in advance,
    Dale

Actually, Dale, this is a pretty common question.
If you want the different sites to load to different .mac accounts (or different sub accounts), the easiest solution is probably to set up several different user accounts on your computer, one for each .mac sub account. In each of those accounts, set the appropriate .mac info in system preferences. Seems like I've heard of another approach, but this is probably the simplest.
Have you already started building a second site in the same user account (on your computer) as the first site? If so, we'll need to walk you through domain separation, too.
One other heads up: it is very important to back up your domain files (in your case in each account). The domain file is found in ~/library/Application Support/iWeb, where ~ refers to your home folder for your user account on the computer. Make sure to make a backup copy (preferably on an external hard drive or CD) after every major change in your website. Don't be lulled into thinking that a published website serves as a backup. It is not possible to import a published site back into iWeb. The domain file is your only link to creating/editing the site in iWeb.
Please post back if you have any questions or if I haven't been clear.

  • How to publish a BOOK from iWeb blog

During 2011 I kept a Blog in iWeb on me.com when my little 7 year old daughter was suffering from liver cancer. the Blog was read and commented by many people. I have been her Living Donor for the liver, and so far she is a "survivor" with sparks in her eys that represent "life".
We have had a lot of support from people that are close to us and I want to thank them all by "publishing" a book from the blog. I kept it on my Macbook wich also still has iWeb on it. I a 'just a user' and not a freak, so I do not have a clue if this is possible to do or just Wishfull thinking. I presume you can never get back to me.com, so the ' web counter' as well as 'feed back' might have been lost, but I sure want to publish this blog in a book. It would be a great gift to thos who supported us and other people that go through this as well, as well as for my little girl Joy, so when she is older she knows what she has been going throug. Is there anyone that could support in the steps I need to undertake to get this done?

To give you an idea what is possible, I used Chrome on my iPad and printed a webpage as pdf to Google Drive with Google Cloudprinter.
    This is the webpage :

    This is the result :

BTW, you can merge pdf files in Preview.app :

  • Unable to publish to .Mac from iPhoto

    Dear All,
I am having a bit of a problem with iPhoto and after a clean install coupled with completely wiping .mac and retrying everything I can think off the same problem still exists.
In short, it would appear that .Mac and iPhoto are not playing with each other! Whenever I am signed into .Mac the iPhoto preferences will hang the application as others have detailed here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1422965&tstart=0
Also whenever I attempt to publish an album on .Mac, the sync icon appears next to the web album but no data is transmitted between iPhoto and .Mac!!
Is this a problem with my router? Are there some ports I need to enable?!? Is it a problem with .Mac?
    Can anyone help me?
    Andy

I just fired up my iPhoto 6.0.6 under Mt. Lion and I have no contact option in that version either.  You'll have to upgrade to at least iPhoto 7 (08) in order to get contact sheets back.  So you might as well upgrade to the latest iPhoto from the App Store.
If you also want the latest versions of iWeb and iDVD (which have been discontinued by Apple) you'll have to purchase a copy of the iLife 11 disc from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: iLife 11.

  • Publishing to Mac from PC with Flash Builder 4.6

I have recently switched from Flash Pro to Flash Builder to write actionscript projects. I would like to publish the finished application for both PC and Mac. I don't want to use the air installer as most potential customers won't have air installed. I have tried the captive runtime option, and this will work well for the PC version, but I am unsure how to package the resulting files for use on a Mac or whether there is a more suitable option for the Mac app (such as the Mac Projector in Flash Pro)
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Richard,
I'm moving your post our to our Flash Builder forum.

  • Published website disappeared from iweb

I have a website that I have published to a file on my computer. The file is still on my desktop but the website is not longer appearing to edit when I open iWeb. Is there anyway to get it back into iWeb?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Did you reinstall the system before this problem started?
iWeb uses a folder/package titled domain.sites2 to keep all of the files used in the creation of a web site. It's default location is in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.
Search your hard drive for another file with the same name. Download and use Find Any File as it will search areas that Spotlight can't.
If you find another file double click on it to open it with iWeb and see if it contains your site. If not and you don't have a backup copy of that file you'll have to recreate the site from scratch. To help you Chapter 2.3 of the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the published files in the reconstruction of the site.

  • How can I publish my website from iWeb?

I have created a Website on iWeb - but did not realize that I would not be able to publish via MobileMe. I cannot publish on a local folder. How can I get my site online?
    Thanks!

You will need to find a 3rd party webhost for your website, I have been using IX Webhosting for several years now with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across.

  • Publish Error - An error occurred while publishing file "/Web/Sites/iWeb/X"

    Hello everyone,
I've been using mac for about 10 years now and have finally decided to try out this iWeb application. Spent several hours putting the site together... fun... but when I hit the publish button, the following error popped up.
    Publish Error
An error occurred while publishing file "/Web/Sites/iWeb/X". (X being my site name which also happens to be my .mac account name.
So I've spent another 3 hours trying it over and over again but still no luck. So I've searched this forum and see if there's any tips. Found a lot of solutions but none of them seem to help. I've deleted all the folders and file on my 'Sites' folder on the iDisk. Closed all running apps before hitting the 'Publish' button. And I've even deleted all my work and tried just to upload the 'welcome' page. Still doesn't work.
I'm getting a bit annoyed... Are there any solutions for my problem??
    I'm using a PowerBook G4 12" 1.33GHz Mac OS X 10.4.9 with iWeb 1.1.2
Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!
     88kin 
     PowerBook G4 12" 1.33GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Probably not. No big deal, really. The important thing is we have been able to get your site on the .Mac server, albeit in the homepage directory.
Ok here's your last assignment. This will also take awhile, but when you are finished your site will be up on .Mac and accessible using the web.mac.com/username/iWeb/sitename url.
Since you have already initiated a publish to .Mac from iWeb, the root directory for iWeb should be on your iDisk. You should be able to navigate to the iWeb folder following this path:
    Go/iDisk/MyiDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/SiteFolder
"SiteFolder" should be a folder named for the site you are having trouble publishing.
On your desktop, open the Site folder that iWeb delivered when you published the original site using the Publish to a Folder... command. You will see a number of folders in there and a number of page.html files. Drag each of these into the Site Folder mentioned earlier, on the iDisk. (The one named for the site). The root index.html file, (the one published outside of the Site folder) needs to be placed in the Web/Sites folder; you should see it in the column above the iWeb folder when done. Basically, you are "manually" uploading your site. It's cumbersome and a royal pita, but if successful, this exercise will confirm what I have suspected all along:
The problem is a latency/time-out error. (The actual error message itself is misleading and somewhat immaterial--iWeb probably chose it randomly). Lots of things contribute to it, but basically, iWeb gets tired of waiting on the WebDav protocol and then generates an error message. I wish I could be more specific, but that's about as close as I can get to the core issue. Many folks publish successfully from your area of the world; just keep trying, and when all else fails, you can always swap out the changed files manually following the method outlined above.

  • .mac and iWeb Publishing

Recently I subscribed a .mac trial account because I wanted to try iWeb and iPhoto 6 Photocasting.
When I publish a webpage from iWeb to .Mac, it'll pop up the login window, asking me to login. I clicked the login button and i typed my .mac account information. I tried to publish again and the same thing happens (.Mac account said my password is valid)
When I select an album and share by photocasting in iPhoto, it says I haven't set up my account (again, I input info. in my .mac settings already).
What's going on? Trial account won't work with iLife?
But I can use my iDisk... that's so weird...
    What's wrong?
    GummyDancer
(I posted this in both iWeb, iPhoto and .Mac sections. Posted on .Mac section about 2 weeks ago)

This is strange. During the slow run of the iWeb publish, I pulled up network tools and did a traceroute. It very slowly did its thing and came up with the a route to idisk.mac.com. Shortly thereafter, iWeb suddenly started uploading at a reasonable (for iWeb) speed. Any idea if this could be related to my running of traceroute?

  • Absolutely can't publish to .mac

like the title says, I just can't publish to .mac, I tried almost everything, and every time I get the following error:
An error occurred while publishing file “/Web/Sites”. Try publishing again later.
I tried publishing from another user, new site from scratch, trashed all prefs, ...
Nothing works... i think it's a problem with my iDisk, since /Web/Sites is the directory on your iDisk iWeb publishes to, but how you reset your iDisk? I trashed all files in the directory Sites and RSS but that didn't help...
    Any help, I'm getting desperate...
    THANKS!
    P.S. I'm using iWeb 2.0.2

I just got a reply from Apple, but just the usual proposals, so I answered right back, here's my answer:
    Dear David,
Thanks for the response, I will try to answer your mail as good as possible.
First, the possible solutions you mention.
    - I have the last version of iweb, version 2.0.2
    - I tried republishing all pages to .mac. The error happens when I choose "publish all" or just "publish"
What happens, is iWeb starts to create all the web pages, and then starts uploading. Then it even starts uploading all the pages, when all pages are uploaded, the progress bars are all filled, I get one of the following errors:
*An error occurred while publishing file “/Web/Sites”. Try publishing again later.*
    or "an unknow error occurred"
or *An error occurred while publishing file “/Web/Sites”. Try publishing again later.*
After that all pages appear as unpublished. The strange thing is that the pages are in fact published, but iWeb sees them as unpublished. However all .mac functions as comments, search boxes and counters don't work...
    - I tried publishing my sites over a dozen times, over several days. Publishing takes a very long time, over 6 hours... So every day I give it another try, but with no success...
    - My .mac password isn't over 20 characters long...
    - I can publish to a folder. That's what I did right now, I published my sites to a folder and manually uploaded them to my iDisk. But that takes a very, very long time, and doesn't give me an convenient way to just publish changes to the site, and also the .mac functions like search, comments, etc. don't work then.
    - My sites aren't password protected.
    - I can upload to my iDisk.
    - I don't have any other network problems, I could publish to .mac in the past and my network hasn't changed since. All network or internet related apps work as they always did.
So I guess, I tried all your proposed solutions but publishing still doesn't work...
If you are still unable to publish to .Mac with iWeb, please respond to this message with the following information:
    - A detailed description of the troubleshooting steps you have taken
I think I tried almost anything, publishing to a folder, choosing publish all, deleted all files from my iDisk and started over, and all the proposed solutions above. I've been using Mac's since 1992, so I do know my way around, but that's one problem I just can't seem to solve...
    - A step-by-step description of what you were trying to accomplish when the error messages occurred
I just choose publish all, or publish, doesn't matter, always the same error and iWeb sees all my pages in my 3 sites as unpublished.
    - The exact text (if possible) of the error messages you received
    "an unknown error occurred"
    "an error occurred
    - A description of your network, including whether it has hubs, routers, cable or DSL modems, wireless routers (including AirPort), or proxy servers
I have a dsl line, connected to an airport express. I use my Powerbook wireless over airport.
    Please also answer these questions:
    - Does this issue occur with other computers on your network?
There are no other computers in my network
    - Does this issue occur when your computer is on a different network?
I have the same network setup at the office, dsl to an airport express, I have the same errors there.
    - When were you last able to publish to .Mac successfully?
I think a few weeks ago... I can publish to my .mac Gallery from iPhoto and can manually upload to my iDisk. All other .mac functions as sync and backup also seem to work...
Hopes this helps to find a solution for my problem, and that I can publish my sites again from iWeb.
If you need any more information, I'll gladly answer them.
    Thanks in advance,
    Yours sincerely,
    Dave Depickere
i hope they'll reply swiftly, so this can be solved!
    I'll keep you informed!

  • Cannot publish from iWeb to .Mac, Help please!

I am trying to publish to my site from here in Australia. I was able to publish in the country at the beggining of the trip, but can not now. I get the message "Publish Error - an error occurred while publishing file /Web/Site/iWeb/Site/Blog". I had updated two blog entries and changed the date on an entry. Since then in trying to fix the issue I deleted both of those entries. I have been through .mac support troubleshooting steps to ensure it is not a network error. I have been able to publish to a folder, but when I try to copy the Blog folder from that folder to my iDisk I get "The Finder cannont complete the operation because some data in "" could not be read or written (Error code -36)". Since then they asked that I try to publish from a trial .Mac account or from a new OS X user account on my machine. Both of those attempts failed as well, which they say indicates it's not a .mac account or OS X user set up issue. They asked that I put a copy of my domain file out in the public drive for them to look at, but when I try to do that it goes through and does the copying and then freezes at "Copying Domain.zip to Public, Copied 599.5MB of 599.5MB (Closing file...) - Please wait". Then I get the same error code -36 and am disconnected from iweb. Can anyone out there help please?
    Thanks!

Thanks and Merry Christmas to you too! I have experienced both modem/network problems and was unable to publish in Tahiti and Cook Islands because of that and now these problems which have nothing to do with network it seems - so yours may or may not be network related. I was able to cheat and copied my "Site" folder from my hard drive to my iDisk rather then publishing. I can't remember if you've tried this or not (read a lot of strings today) but you can publish to a folder and then copy that folder to your iDisk at /Web/Sites/iWeb/Site as "Site" after first renaming the one that is out there now. Let me know if you have any questions on how to do it. It sounds like you are traveling like we are and anxious to communicate with friends and family back home. When you are bored, our site is web.mac.com/baganworldtour.
At least we now have our first update out there in two weeks. But it took almost two hours to copy the folder and this won't work forever. Hopefully we, whether by the discussion room or .mac support next week, will be able to fix the problem for real.
    Thanks. Good Luck. Merry Christmas

  • Error Publishing from iweb 09 - Server or iweb problems??

I upgraded from iweb 08 (I had no issues) to iweb 09, and I have publishing errors more than half the time. Are the mobileme servers having problems, or is there a hack in the iweb software?
This is a big problem because I have 20 Gb of pages with video that I need to re-publish. It is bad enough that I will be tying my network up for 2 weeks, but that I often don't make progress.
The message is "Error connecting to mobileme, check network.. .." The problem is that it uploads for an hour or so before it stops.. I am double checking to see if my routing is causing the problem, but I don't think so..
Is Apple working on this? Are there numerous people who are now stuck re-publishing their sites and the servers are getting beat up? Does anyone know how to diagnose this type of problem?

Finally i solved the issue of Publishing Error in iWeb 09 with MobileMe.
Procedure which i followed and might also help you guys.
Lets say your default site name is XYZ then create a new site e.g. ABC.
Thereafter dragged all pages from default site XYZ to new site ABC ONE BY ONE.
*In the preference folder delete any PLIST files related to iWeb (i had two files in my folder).*
*Once you drag all pages from your default site to new site there after just make a new blank page and publish the site.*
Then start dragging first one page from new site ABC and publish one page. There after repeat all pages one by one and publish after every page you drag from new site ABC to default site XYZ.
Once you finish then take a backup in time machine of the domain.
There after start your blog page then publish again then start photos album page, publish again then your movie page, publish again etc because these are the pages which were mostly creating errors.
After you complete the final page and publish remove the blank page and publish again.
I spent 3 days with the same problem and finally i could finish by this method in few hours.

  • How to publish from iWeb to two different .mac accounts

my household has two separate .macs account and we want to publish from iWeb to the two different accounts which I cannot figure out. thanks

I discovered I could duplicate Domain.sites2 (~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2). I named one "Domain de.sites2", and the other "Domain daru.sites2". Then I opened daru's site and deleted de's, then I opened de's and deleted daru's, and I have two separate sites (with aliases in the dock) that I presume I'll be able to upload separately. Once I get .Mac sub groups created...
If it works, it saves the hassle of creating other user accounts, since only my wife and I use the computer. Right now, .Mac is telling me I can't create a sub account in my wife's name because she already has a .Mac ID (and a two month free trial account she had to agree to, to join the group) for a group site I manage. I don't think she ought to be required to have a separate identity every time she logs into .Mac.
