Publish password lost when ical quits

When iCal is opened for the first time each day, the exclamation mark appears that says that the published calendar is NOT publishing. Clicking on the exclamation mark gets the message that the publish failed and the username/password entry box appears - the password box is blank. When the password is re-entered, all is well, but then if you quit iCal, the next time you re-open it, you have to reenter the password again.
Any help?

tankgrrl,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Allowing applications to access your keychain, should be helpful.
If that is not a solution, then open Keychain Access, and use Keychain First Aid. It may help you identify and resolve the problem.
Let us know what you find out.

  • Events are lost when ical is quit

When events are added to or deleted from iCal the changes disappear when the program is quit and restarted. When events are entered or deleted from a MobileMe Sync they stay. Any ideas?
I first deleted the ical.plist file, and finally completely reinstalled and updated Snow Leopard.

Could be a permissions issue or could be a sync services issue.
    Troubleshooting:
    1.) Backup all your data:
    Backup your computer Addressbook: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=AddressBook/4.0/en/ad961.html
    Backup your computer iCal: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2966
    Backup your calendars on MobileMe.
    Follow http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4226
Go to "backing up data" and then "Backing up from me.com/calendar"
2.) Reset the computer's sync services and then restart the computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
3.) Test iCal  -- if the issue persists keep going
4.) Download the Combo update: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1361
    5.) SafeBoot the computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
6.) Install the Combo update while in SafeBoot

Uploaded photos and was editing them, then iPhoto quit. Now I have lost all of that upload. GUTTED!!!
Is there any way to recover them?

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

In the past, when I updated iTunes, some items would be 'lost'. I quit updating, still running 10.6. I do keep my files on an external hard drive, which I plug in before starting iTunes. If I leave the drive off, and update, would that keep me from losing any files? Also, does anyone know how to search the iTunes store by price? I'm particularly interested in movies and audiobooks... Thanks

iTunes does not have provision for automatically storing one kind of media on a separate drive, so you have some basic decisions to make first.  Do you want these movies to still appear in your iTunes library, or are you content with browsing filenames on a drive in Finder when you want to look for one?  The second's the easiest thing because then you don't have to have an external drive permanently turned on and attached to your computer (wired or wireless).  To do that you literelly only need to drag your movies folder to an archive drive and delete movies from iTunes.  To watch them again you can add it back to iTunes while holding down the option key so the movie is used from its location on the external drive.
There's ways to move the movies to an external drive while keeping them in iTunes but the external drive iwll always have to be turned on and connected to the computer or you will see a bunch of broken link exclamation marks.
Realize what you are talking about is not "backup".  Backup (which you should do) is putting a second or more copy of items on external drives for the day when your internal drive fails and everything on it is lost, inclduing all your home photos and perhaps things that have been pulled from the iTunes Store and can no longer be re-downloaded.

  • I lost my last import when iPhoto quit. Is there a way to find these pictures?

I lost my last import when iPhoto quit. Is there a way to find these pictures?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Crystal 2011 - Formats lost when published to CMC

    Hi team,
    Here's my issue...
Have exported a Crystal 2009 report and saved it into 2011.
I noted that some of the formats had changed slightly. i.e. font size, paragraph line spacing
Fixed these, ran the report from crystal 2011 and exported the report to PDF, looks great!
Published the report to CMC and ran a test hoping to get the same results, however this time the formats are gone?
Can anyone tell me what I've done wrong, please.
    Thanks,
    Simon

Thanks for your reply, the formats are being lost when I export to PDF.
We wonder if the problem is something to do with the way the text was formatted in the older version of crystal and that exporting and importing into Crystal 2011 has lost some of this.

  • Password lost if I 'sign out' rather than 'quit'

    Hi all,
I'm new to all this so apologies if I should be in another conversation and/or this has been raised/solved earlier.
I am not overly enamoured with the product post Microsoft, and do fear for its future. However, today I am talking about passwords. I have passwords for applications pouring out of every orrifice....so....if I have it right, Skype does not retain my password if I just "sign out". To retain the password I need to "quit" Skype. If instead I "sign out", Skype will not let me back in withought entering my password. I'm on Windows 7 o/s.
If I or anyone in this house 'signs out' of Skype, I will be prompted for my password on my next log in. Why is that....is it me not operating the system properly, or is it a poor system design issue??
Heck....I have too many passwords already. And Skype makes me choose yet another (new) one, as old passwords are barred.
How about this as a suggestion....Say I know my email address that I created the account under in the first place but have lost that password. Why not, at account creation, have say two user generated questions and user supplied answers that will allow a user to recover an existing password and continue to use it.
    For example..
Q1. what is your mothers date of birth
Q2. name of your first school
Surely such questions/answers would allow many of us to retain a password and limit the number of them that we write down on paper or word docs,,, with such action's own attendant security issues!!!
    Regards
    David

You just need to open iPhoto on your iMac and move any photos in the Shared  iCloud section (in the pane on the left of iPhoto) into an Event or Events if they already haven't been. Photos in Events are safe from any action by Photo Stream (iCloud).
It is possible that you already have set iPhoto to automatically move the photos into Events where they are safe. That setting is described in the quote below from iCloud: My Photo Stream FAQ
Because your Mac and PC have more storage than your iOS devices, you can choose to download all of your My Photo Stream photos automatically.
In iPhoto or Aperture preferences on your Mac, select Photos (or Photo Stream) > My Photo Stream > Automatic Import. All of your photo stream photos will import into your Events, Projects, Photos, Faces, and Places folders in iPhoto or Aperture.
Also there is more information at iCloud: My Photo Stream FAQ
What happens to my photos if I turn off My Photo Stream?
If you sign out of iCloud or turn off My Photo Stream on an iOS device, all the images in My Photo Stream are removed from that device. The images in My Photo Stream on your other devices aren't affected. Images added to My Photo Stream are saved on the iCloud server for 30 days from the date you added them to My Photo Stream. If you sign in to iCloud with the same Apple ID and turn on My Photo Stream on another device, those photos will automatically download to this device.

  • Upgraded to Snow Leopard/lost all iCal previous info and Firefox bookmarks

I had previously had a major problem with an Apple automatic update and went thru lots of time and trouble, especially with Safari. After more time than I wanted to spend with Applecare...finally having to do a clean install...I was told all was okay. I still had Safari problems, so I switched to Firefox and was able to import the bookmarks from the old Safari. I was assured that the Snow Leopard was worth doing and would be no problem. So much for that advice. Most everything else seems fine, but all of my data on iCal is lost, as are the bookmarks in Firefox. When I tried to pull same up from Time Machine, I get the message that the version of iCal won't work with this version of Mac OS X. I know the info I want has to be there. Any ideas on how to get that info back? Likewise, bringing Firefox from Time Machine has not found my bookmarks.
I would love to not spend forever with Applecare once again. It seems nothing is simple these days.

don't restore the application itself. applications themselves never contain any user data.
it's all stored in your home directory. for ical quit ical and restore the folder /users/username/library/calendars and for firefox the folder /users/username/library/application support/firefox.

  • Lost current ical events

Today, I lost a number of events from approximately Dec 1st forward. All prior events are still there but some are repeated multiple times. Some of the current and future events however are not missing.
After some head scratching, it appears that ical has possibly reverted to the state at the time the last sync was performed to my iphones since the ical data remaining matches my phone. The odd thing is that neither phone has been synced for a couple weeks.
My last ical backup is older than the current state of ical so that won't help.
Does ical keep any recent file that would have the lost data? Where are ical data files located? All the files in the ApplicationSupport folder date to Aug '09.
We have not lost much but our entire family schedule is/was on this imac. it will be hard to recreate especially without any idea of just what was lost.
    Any ideas?

By the way I neglected to mention that I checked my password, deleted my ical caches and restarted my computer

  • I have a password problem. After importing data and settings from one MacBook Pro to a new one, I have to put my iCloud password in when re-starting, but the password from the old computer in when waking the computer from sleep.

I have a password problem. After importing data and settings from one MacBook Pro to a new one, I have to put my iCloud password in when re-starting the new computer, but the password from the old computer in when waking the computer from sleep. I want to use my iCloud password on both computers consistently. How can I fix this?

The only other place to change a password for the computer login is in Users & Groups preferences. But I don't really know enough here to fix your problem. You can try fixing the keychain:
iCloud- Frequently asked questions about iCloud Keychain
    Tutorial: Resolving Keychain Issues
If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
      1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
      3. Click the "First Aid" tab
      4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
      5. Close the Preferences window
      6. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
      7. Enter your username and password
      8. Click the "Repair" button
The second option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible. This can be accomplished as follows:
      1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
      3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
      4. Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
      5. Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
      6. Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting
          "New Keychain"
      7. You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then
going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:
      1. OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      2. OS X Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      3. Mac OS X 10.6: Enabling the root user
      4. Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.
The above comes from an article published on MacFixit.com.

Not quite, because you can still redownload all your purchased apps and music.  And everything that is synced from applications on your computer such as your calendar and your contacts can be resynced.

  • I did re-set my password and when I click on Install for Mavericks, I still get a box for "administrator password" and it still won't accept my new password. Is there a difference between my Apple ID and the administrator password they're asking for?

I downloaded Mavericks and it won't install. I did re-set my password and when I click on Install for Mavericks, I still get a box for "administrator password" and it still won't accept my new password. Is there a difference between my Apple ID and the administrator password they're asking for? I never had an administrator password-- I just hit enter and have never had a problem before with previous installations. I'm on an iMac, from 2007, running Mt. Lion (version 10.8.5). I've been looking for other's posts who may be having the same problem, but haven't found any. Can anyone help?

Ugh. The 'no password, no work' thing is a recent Apple development. I ran into it on my system and ended up having to do a clean install on a partition I fully erased.
I suppose, if you have the ability to, go online and look up how to burn a bootable DVD image. Download the 10.8.4 image then use the Disk Utility to make a boot image of it. You'll need a dual-layer DVD or a USB drive (or memory stick at least 8GB) If you've got an optical drive, burn the disk, if you've a USB device, use that.
Then get a pocket drive and copy your important files off the system or let Time Machine do a full backup.
When the backup is done, insert the disk and hold down the C key until the machine boots off of the DVD. At the point you get to the start window, go to the menu and choose the Disk Utility.
In the Disk Utility, reformat the drive. You go to the actual DRIVE (not the Macintosh HD, but the root above it that is the actual hard drive device)
I always do this and *partition* it into several volumes, the benefit being, you can store all of your music, documents and importans stuff on that secondary storage volume you make - it will have it's own index and then the first volume is where you put the OS and it will have it's own index as well. That way, if the OS throws a wobbler and you need to reinstall, you don't lose your data.
Depending on the size of your hard drive, it is good to give your OS partition at least 60GB and optimally 100GB, and the rest for storage.
Name your volumes, use the little box sliders to manually size them or put that number in the size window, select for the format, Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and hit Apply and then the Disk Utility will quickly create your new partitions.
Once finished, quit the Utility and it will return you to the OS installer. Select the volume you want to install to and it should start up and install.
Once the installation is done, you'll get the new machine startup then you MUST put in a password for the computer. Once you're in, and to the desktop, don't bother with any Mountain Lion updates, go right to the App Store and get the Mavericks update and let it install the app to your Applicaitons folder, then do that install.
On a side note, there MAY be a way to make a disk image from the Mavericks application and avoid the entire Mountain Lion step.. I honestly do not know, but a bit of hitting the search engines may find out if there is. I think that if you looked for "make Mavericks boot disk or boot image' you may find something.
    Good luck!
