Publish to Executable missing in Captivate 8

According to the manual, publishing to .EXE or .APP (for Mac) is still an option in Captivate 8, yet there is no "publish to media" option in the menu, just publish to HTML5/SWF or Video. There is a separate Print option, but can't locate the Media option! Help!

Pye Man, I'm going to give you 2 ways to overcome this lack of Executables -- and yes, I'm still carrying a minor grudge that this feature was stripped from 8, in case you were wondering.
Option 1 - Publish this a non-scorm compatible course. You'll get a tidy little bundle of files for this which you can zip up and send/share with your customers, telling them to unzip it to a folder on their hard drive (keeping the architecture of the zipped folder). Once they have done this, they can click on the .html object (e.g., index.html) which is the command to play the content in a browser just the way the executable would. I don't recommend publishing it as scorm-compatible output because I've found that it won't always play for everyone (it wants to be tucked into a nice, cozy LMS).
Option 2 - Publish it as a scorm-compatible course and upload the zipped folder to SCORMCloud, a very handy LMS sandbox. (SCORM Cloud) From there you can create an invitation to send to your reviewers (there are limits to the number of testers and maximum file sizes for free accounts, but they're usually generous enough for a few projects).
I hope this works for you -- it's better than the proverbial 'sharp stick in the eye.' Oh, and if you don't need to preview interactions or tables of contents or interactive buttons, you can always publish this as a video and share that!

Publish Issue: mp4 missing 1st PPT slide (Cap 6.0.0.199 on Win7)
First slide, my title slide with audio, is not the the published mp4.
I can insert a phantom slide into the project, before my title slide, as a work-around, but I shouldn't have to do that.
Is there something I clicked on or need to click on?
    Thanks!

First of all, please apply the patch to your version. Captivate 6.0.0.199 had a truckload of issues. Here is the link for the patch.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/captivate/kb/captivate-6-patch.html
How are you inserting the audio? Is it coming from the PPT or did you insert it in Captivate? Is it a slide audio or is it associated with an object?

  • Is there any way to publish to Flash 9 in Captivate 7.

I have created 10 simulations for a project to be embedded into an elearning module.  Problem is the module has been developed using Flash 9 and I have used Captivate 7 to build the sims - and it only publishes to Flash 10, 10.2 or 11.
I have tried exporting to CS6 as a .fla file, opening in Captivate 6 and publishing in Flash 9  - works in principle but the majority of the screenshots are missing and only some of the captions display.
Any ideas? so I don't have to re build the sims and my developer doesn't have to re do the module?

Cp6 can publish to Flash 9. Some Cp7 presentations can be opened in Cp6. In a pinch you might get away with publishiing to Flash 9 from Cp6.

  • Error message when publishing to Word 2003 from Captivate v5.5

When trying to publish a project to Word 2003 that was created in Captivate v5.5, the author is getting the following message:
Publishing failed. Please ensure that MS Word is installed and that the document is not opened and repeat.
(Translated from German to English for this thread).
The author assures me they have Word 2003 installed, and the document is not open as it has not been created yet.
I tried it on my PC with v5.5 and Word 2003 and it worked OK for me.
Any ideas why it might not work for others ?

    Hi Noel,

Open a New Dummy project and then try Publishing to  Word.
Try exporting your text captuions to Word format and see if that is working or not?

  • Is there anyway to publish each slide build in Captivate 5.5 to a word doc with slide notes?

I am looking for a way to print out my slides in a word document so that my copy editor can not only read my slide notes, but also view what is on my slide making sure there are not any errors. When I build my slides, I stack images up with things fading in and out enabling me to record audio for only one slide as opposed to each build. However when I publish to the handouts, my copy editor receives a slide with a lot of things built up on it and she can not see everthing that is on the slide (only what's on top). Does anyone have any advice or information they can give me relating to publising to handouts or storyboarding so that each slide build is seen?
Thank you in advance! I appreciate any help on this!

Captivate's handouts work in much the same way as PPT handouts.  If you had a lot of objects and animation on a single PPT slide it wouldn't look much different to a Captivate slide.
One good thing about Captivate though is that if you hide objects on the timeline for a given slide, the way that slide looks in Edit mode is pretty much what it will look like in the Handout doc graphic.  With judicious hiding of extraneous objects your slide printout won't look too bad.  The reviewers should at this stage mostly be just looking at the voiceover script anyway.  The NEXT stage of the review cycle would be to check the animation and syncing with the approved voiceover.
There's no way you can give your reviewer a Word doc straight out of Captivate that will show how you've animated the objects (fade ins and fade outs or effects etc).  If it's essential tey see this in action then consider sending them a PDF output from the project with TTS speech from the voiceover script and objects roughly synced to the TTS.  I don't see any point wasting too much time on getting everything synced perfectly at this stage because reviewers are just as likely to change a lot of the voiceover and render a lot of work useless.  But some reviewers have no imagination and can't get an idea of how the elearning will turn out until they see it almost finished.  Managers are the most likely to be like this.  And the higher up in management they are, the less imagination they have.

  • BI Publisher ADMIN tab missing

I'm logging in as Administrator to BI Publisher, but the Admin tab is missing at the top of the screen.
When I log into Analytics as Administrator, and select Settings...Manage BI Publisher, I get this error screen:
"Reporting Login: Login failed: Please contact administrator for your username/password."
And although there is a link on that page that says "Details", clicking it simply returns "Error Codes: " with no further explanation or list of error codes.
If I select "Settings...Manage BI Publisher" again, the BI Publisher Enterprise screen opens without the error message, but also without the Admin tab.
Administrator is listed as a valid user under Settings...Manage Privileges...Manage BI Publisher.
    Any clues or thoughts?

Are you using BI EE security for BIP? If so, it sounds like you forgot to create the required BIP roles in your RPD before switching BIP over to use BI EE security. Go into your RPD and create a role called XMLP_ADMIN. Put administrator in that group. This should fix the immediate problem. There are 5 other groups required for this to work properly. You also need to setup a subject are called SA System.

  • Can't publish to MS Word | Adobe Captivate 5 | PC (Windows XP)

I noticed several forums relating to an issue with not being able to publish to MS Word for MAC OS, but I have not been able to locate a fix for the same issue but with Windows.
I receive the following error when trying to publish to MS Word.
When you publish an Adobe Captivate 5.0 project to MS Word to print handouts, the following error appears:

  • IWeb publishing incomplete site - missing nav menu, missing photos

This is very odd. iWeb was working perfectly for me, but then all of a sudden, it started publishing the sites with parts missing. It consists of a Home page, a Photos page, and two other pages. But now when I publish it, the navigation menu with the links to the other pages are missing. The pages are still there and mostly intact, but the photo gallery page shows on photos. Also, there are no photos in the media page.
I tried deleting the plist and cache files and rebooting and nothing helped. I was originally uploading via FTP but also tried publishing the entire site to a local folder. Same result.

OKAY, I tried MANY things, and for some reason, the last one worked. I don't know if it was a combination of all this or this was just the main problem. But...
First, I reinstalled iWeb to no effect. Even when I exported it to a local folder, it didn't work.
Then, I installed iWeb onto a clean installation of OS X and it WORKED in the local folder but not on my web server.
Then, I took a look at the Console in Chrome and saw that it was getting a 403 when the navbar tried to pull feed.xml.
So, I changed the file permissions from 0644 to 0755.
That didn't fix it  (though I've read that it does).
So, I emailed my web host and they said that there was a line in my .htaccess that was restricting all access to XML files (which iWeb uses heavily, apparently). This was stopping the page from generating my navbar and my photo slideshow.
    So....
I ended up adding these two entries into my .htaccess
    <Files feed.xml>
                        Order allow,deny
        Allow from all
        Satisfy All
    </Files>
    <Files rss.xml>
                        Order allow,deny
        Allow from all
        Satisfy All
    </Files>
    AND IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Published EXE file Error-Adobe captivate 4

    Hi,
I'm having problems with publishing an EXE file in Adobe captivate 4. I know it has something to do with our internet browser settings, we are a Court location and we have strict settings, but I'm wondering if there are work arounds through adobe captivate. See error below:
-allowing active content such as script and ActiveX controls can be useful, but active content might also harm your computer. Are you sure you want to let this file run active content? Y/N
-Help protect security, internet explore has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer, click here for options.
If you just select yes and proceed the captivate file runs fine and you can complete the training. Our goal is to be able to publish in this format because it's more stable than the PDF or HTML option but we don't want users to experience this error from the start.
Thanks for helping with my questions!
    Libby

Hi, I've been trying to attach an image for the error message we get but not matter what I do it gives me an error and won't let me attach the image. Any suggestions or do you have an email I can send them too. The error message may be a little different than what I sent previously, it seems to give a different error message on different computers. But we are currently trying to create a new release of our training program so this should be the most current error message and the error message people will see when they open it on their PC's. Anyway this is what it says:
    First Error Message:
    File Download-Security Warning
Do you want to run or save this file?
Name: BasicCORIS_AttachAnAttorney.exe (name of our file)
    Type: Application, 9.27MB
    From: C:/CourtsOnlineTraining\Program Files\Dist....
Run     Save     Cancel (we select run, than you get next error message)
While files from the Internet can be useful, this file type can potentially harm your computer. If you do not trust the source, do not run or save this software. What's the risk?
    Second Error Message:
    Internet Explorer- Security Warning
The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?
    Name: BasicCORIS_AttachAnAttorney.exe
    Publisher: Unknown Publisher
    Run    Don't Run
This file does not have a valid digital signature that verifies its publisher. You should only run software from publishers you trust. How can I decide what software to run?
I hope this makes sense. Let me tell you a little more about how our training is set up. We load the training on to a USB stick that includes a menu, the training modules, and a shortcut. Once the USB is downloaded on to the users PC they can select a shortcut icon for the training. Once they select the training shortcut it opens a menu that they can select training from. When they select on the desired training this is when they would receive these error messages. Our current release is in a HTML format, but because of this format the training interacts with the web browser and causes us problems so we were hoping to publish in exe and the training wouldn't open in a web browser.
Let me know if you have further questions or if I've just confused the situation more. Again thanks for your help!

  • Missing features (Captivate 5 vs Captivate 4)?

I am in Captivate 5 and I am looking for:
The Bandwidth Analyzer. I see it nowhere - that gives info for determing the length of the project, other than manually adding up all of the slides.
The small Information tab which gave a brief summary of the Project
A way to shut off the damned mouseclick.  Didn't work in Captivate 4 - and I can't even find it to become frustrated in Captivate 5.

    Hello,
The bandwidth analyzer is not there anymore, I'm sorry. This is probably due to the changed situations where bandwidth has become less important. If you really want to have this feature back, please fill in a feature request.
By turning off the 'mouseclick', are you pointing at turning off the camera sounds during recording in the Preferences? If so, perhaps this tip could help you: if you open the Preferences and change something before opening a project from the welcome screen, the preferences will stay the same for all the projects you'll open in that session (and you can open multiple projects now). You can also export and import Preferences.
Do think the 'Project summary tab' you are referring at is what you could see in Storyboard view after publishing a file? Sorry again, and you are not the only one to regret it, not there anymore (feature request?). As a workaround for the total time of a project: still visible by default in the TOC.
Info tab: I'm a bit at a loss here. Are you talking about  Project Info? Still there in the Preferences (same place as in CP4) or in the File menu. And also the same as in CP4: information you can enter for the TOC (where you can add a photo/video too out of the box).
Sorry not to be able to offer you more help,
    Lilybiri

  • Publish/Preview not working in Captivate 4

    Hello,
One of the people on my team suddenly cannot preview or publish a Captivate project.  She has been working on several projects and has not had an issue until recently.  We have taken the project files to another computer and tried previewing and publishing them there, and we are able to preview and publish them without any problem.  So it seems the problem is on her end.
We have tried re-booting the laptop and even re-installing Captivate, but she continues to have the issue.
We are running Captivate 4 on a Windows XP environment.  We all have 4GB of RAM installed.
Thanks for any insight or help you can give.
    Tim

We got the "Adobe Captivate could not open ".cp" because of permission error”  message and were unable to open our file.  We solved this by moving the file to a local drive and working on it from there.
Prior and subsequent to this, we were also unable to preview or publish our file.  We solved the Preview problem by creating a new blank presentation and importing slides three by three. After each lot of imports we checked to ensure the presentation was able to be previewed.
Just when we thought we’d solved it, however, it then still failed to Publish!
(Along the way we’d also tried replacing the user profile, opening it on a different PC, turning off Auto Play and changing the Preloader and deleting all text captions.)
Finally we created a copy of our presentation, and starting from the end went through and deleted slides one by one, attempting to publish after each deletion.   After deleting approximately 10 slides we isolated the corrupt culprit and were able to delete it from the original presentation and replace it.

  • How to publish SCORM package from Adobe captivate app packager?

I have added HTML animation in captivate project using App packager. Now I want to publish it as a SCORM package. I didn't find any option to publish as SCORM package in App packager. Is there any way to do so?

    Hi Vikram and Lilybiri,
    Thanks for your responses :-)
I'm working on Windows 8.1... I think that I may have found the issue... I was saving the file in a project directory rather than the default My Captivate Projects folder...
Perhaps Captivate was struggling to find resources it needed?
It hasn't crashed for a while now, though it is struggling - I'm working with a 54 slide PPT presentation that is linked and it takes a very long time to interact.
Sometimes it says that I've removed slides, which I haven't?
    Best,
    Christy.

  • Hyperlinks aren't working after I publish - any suggestions?! Captivate 5

    Hey everyone,
I've just created a project here and used a click box to link the learner to a hyperlink (external website http://.....).  I've tested this out in the "preview" mode and the hyperlink works.  Next, I published the project and now the hyperlink doesn't work.  I click on the area and nothing happens...not even an empty browser window will appear.  Has anyone else run into this issue?!?!
Any assistance in this would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks
