Publish to Flickr in LR4

When I try to publish to Flickr from LR4 after about an hour I get error saying file to large.  Only published about 17 out of 600 images. If I try to restart fails quickly.  How do I publish all of these to Flickr.

Flickr has a file size limit for a pro account of 20MB per image; it is less for a free Flickr account at 15MB
http://www.flickr.com/help/photos/
It is also a shame that the LR Flickr publishing service does not check the size of the rendered file before it tries to send it to Flickr.   It just sends it regardless and consequently if the file is too large this wastes significant time and bandwidth whilst you wait for the error to occur.    It is also unfortunate that the error message is not explicit about which file actually failed.
I have already raised a couple of recommendations to Adobe on these issues …if you feel relevant then add your vote ...

http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/improve_the_diagnostics_relating_to_ flickr_publish_failures
The only suggestion I have is …
If you publishing jpegs, have you set your quality to 100%?   If so, unless using Flickr for archiving purposes, you could try reducing it to say 90% or so as this will make little discernible difference to the online viewing quality …
http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/jpeg-quality
and will reduce the file size to help mitigate the problem.

  • Error message end tag and start tags dont match when publishing to flickr from lightroom 5.3

I have had an ongoing problem that lightroom publishing to flickr times out frequently when uploading many photos.  However, for about the last week or two weeks i have been getting a different error message:
Error message: “Can’t update this collection.  An internal error has occurred:  End tag ‘body’ does not match the start tag ‘hr’.
    Windows 7 system.
I set up a photoset in lightroom (have tried both smart and regular photosets with same results).  These photosets can contain anywhere from 16 to 3000 or more photos. The first photos are uploaded – maybe 10, maybe 100, maybe 1000.  Then it generally seems to stop working.  Sometimes I can continue publishing new photos or republishing, sometimes I cant.  For example I currently have 11 flickr publish photosets in one lightroom catalog, with the following success numbers:
    NAHCR00 total 3044, published: 1851
    NAHCR01 total 748,published: all
    NAHCR03 total: 532 published: all
    NAHCR04  total: 412 published: all
    NAHCR05 total: 340 published: 152
    NAHCR07 total: 248 published: 50
    NAHCR08 total: 524 published: 197
    NAHCR09 total: 44 published: all
    NAHCR10 total: 40 published: all
    NAHCR11 total: 32 published: all
    NAHCR12 total: 124 published: 4
I have succeeded in uploading over 28000 pictures from flickr (mostly from three other lightroom catalogs to several flickr account, both paid and free).  The other catalogs marks the photosets as public  and generally seems to be more successful at uploading.
All of these problem photosets are marked as private so that only I can see them.  The  photos themselves have peculiar names including many special characters including chinese characters, arabic alphabets, spaces, commas, exclamation marks etc etc.  I tried telling lightroom to rename the files to names with no special characters but it still fails.
I emailed Flickr with the above information and this was their response:
Thank you for contacting Yahoo Flickr.
I would first like to apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced while attempting to upload photos to your Flickr account.
First, Lightroom is a 3rd-party application; we can't offer any support for it. Please contact the developer of that application for help.
With that said, please note that there's a known issue with Avast's Web Shield and AVG antivirus that causes issues with uploads. If you have either of these applications, disable the "Link Scanner", add Uploadr to the exceptions list, and then try to upload. If the issue persists, temporarily turn off the anti-virus / firewall and try to upload again.
Please also see the following article on Flickr's upload limitations:
    Flickr upload limitations
Lastly, here are some general troubleshooting steps that you can try:
Most connection issues arise due to a problem between your computer and Flickr and are often temporary. Try the following:
Briefly power off any broadband modems and routers to reset the network connection.
If you connect wirelessly, move your computer closer to the wireless access point, or 'plug in'.
If you're connected through a router, try plugging directly into the broadband modem.
See your manual for configuration options if the router is slowing or blocking uploads.
Also, try lowering your # or matching it to your ISP's value.
      Additional troubleshooting
Try uploading with an alternate method:The web upload page, the Uploadr app, or upload by email.
If you're using an older version of Uploadr, update to the latest version.
Search our forums to see if there are any specific network hardware incompatibilities.
I realize that this isn't a satisfying response to your request, and I am sorry for that. Please let me know if I may be of further assistance, or if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you again for contacting Yahoo Flickr.
    Regards,
    Elliot

I had the same problen with Lightroom 5 - Prepares the files but won't Upload to Blurb. Tried numerours times. It is a Landscape size Book 132 Pages. There is a BUG in Lightroom and here is how I got it to work:
Check each slide and make sure APPLY BACKGROUND GLOBALLY, GRAPHIC or BACKGROUND COLOR and not checked,. If so Uncheck them.
Go to EDIT and SELECT ALL Slides in the Book.
Select Apply Background Globally - turn it off and on several times, then leave it off
Select GRAPHIC - turn it off and then turn it on and off several times
Select BACKGROUND COLOR - turn it on then off then on then off
I ended up with APPLY GLOBALLY unchecked for Every Page.
GRAPHIC was turned on with a Graphic set at 12% Opacity on every Page
Again check each page first for these Checkmarks or just fix exverything with SELECT ALL.
    Background Color was Turned off.
NOW UPLOAD THE BOOK - It took a couple hours but it uploaded without a hitch., I turned off all Firewalls and Plugged directly into the Router. I am using an IMac 27" with 32 GB of memory and this is the only way it would work. The Mac is about 7 days old and Lightroom 5 is also 7 days old. BUGGIEST piece of software I have ever used.
Note - one of the above steps fixes the BUG - I am not sure which one but one will fix your book. It finally uploaded to BLURB today. It took a few hours though.

  • Does Aperture recognize existing iPhoto photos published to Flickr?

    Howdy,
I have almost 10,000 photos in my iPhoto 9.4.2 library on my MacBook running Mac OS 10.7.5. I'm considering upgrading to Aperture, and I am particularly interested in the advertised ability of Aperture to use my existing iPhoto library. Specifically, many of my photos in iPhoto are shared on Flickr, and I love iPhoto's integration with Flickr. When I update a photo with edits or metadata, those changes are pushed to Flickr automatically.
If I get Aperture and use it on my existing iPhoto library, will it recognize all the photos that are already published to Flickr and similarly maintain their Flickr versions?
    Thanks a bunch,
    Mikael Behrens

yeah, i IM'd the links to a friend just now and she can see them. ***?
I cannot see them in Safari or Mozilla here at work.
But yet, I can see them in Firefox.
    Sorry for the trouble.
The new iLife is freekin awesome nevertheless.
    Thanks,

  • Help setting up iPhoto to publish with Flickr

Please tell me what i am doing wrong. I am trying to get iPhoto to publish to Flickr. I chose my photo, a drop down message appears at the top of the screen saying "Do you want to set up iPhoto to publish to Flickr?" I click Setup and it takes me to Yahoo/Flickr sign in page on the web. I confirm my username & password and I am taken to Flickrs home page. I know I can upload photos here but I want to do it direct from iPhoto but every time I click on the Flickr button I have to repeat the above all over again. Please can someone help me??

Did you check the box to stay signed in for two weeks?
What I see is select photo(s), click on Flickr and I go to a Flickr web page where I sing in and tell it to keep me signed in and I get a new web page asking me if I want to allow iPhoto to upload - I say yes and it goes to a page telling me that I can change this - I close that page and go back to iPhoto in the dock and click on the still open box to upload to Flickr and it works without having to go to the Flickr page again
What exact steps are you taking

  • I can't publish to flickr.

If I try to publish to flickr I either get corrupt looking photos on the flickr site or iPhoto says that the photos have been deleted from flickr but are still in iPhoto. I had the same problem with mobile me before it was closed down.
I think I have a problem with iPhoto on my end but I have no idea how to fix the problem.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.

  • Republish to Flickr from LR4 posts as new photos instead of updates them (only one set, not all)

I have a single set on Flickr that I cannot republish updates to from LR4 - republishing a modified photo posts it as a new photo.  All other sets seem to work fine.  I use the "built-in" Flickr plugin and LR4.3 with a Flickr Pro account.  This issue started with LR4.2 when I got my Nikon D800.  I've tried just about everything I can think of and have been searching for any similar problems for months and decided to finally ask for help myself.
Back in October I created a set of an event, and published the photos to Flickr without issue.  A week later I wanted to republish a few photos and noticed that they instead published to the set as new.  If I mark to republish, yet another copy is posted as new.  After some testing, this is only for images in this one particular set - any other images in any other set update their existing version as expected.
After a while I began to wonder if the machine tag I added was causing it (active:event=) so I removed the tag from the image on both sides and tried to republish again with the same results.
Naturally I delete the new copy of the image from Flickr which then dissassociates the LR photo with anything on Flickr.  I found another (cludgy) plugin which can associate photos in LR with photos on Flickr and that fixes the link between the two.  But again, republish from LR and a new copy shows up.
Any ideas?  This has been driving me nuts.  I haven't found any special permissions or settings on the Flickr set or within LR which would explain why this one set is affected and no others.  I don't want to delete the set on Flickr and lose the history.  I'm trying to avoid having to manually update the images on Flickr where I would also have to manually update the titles, etc.

This has happened for LR4.2, 4.3, 4.4, and now LR5.  The seemingly random nature of this bug is irratating.  Last week while still on LR4.4 I published a photo, changed it, and was able to republish it without issue.  Today on LR5 I published a set and went to republish a handful of photos only for them to be added as new photos to the set.  LR5 indicated that they were photos to republish and not new ones to the set.

  • Publish to Flickr fails

Hi, am running LR4 on Win7 64bit, and have the following problem:
If I try to publish some images to flickr I get the following error after one image is published to flicker:
After this the publish operation stops. If I check using my browser, the image is actually in FLickr.
However if I try the "Show in Flickr" conext menu item from within Lightroom I get another error dialog with:
    -  "Cant show this published photo" - Can not find the URL for this published photo -
Ive tried re-authorising lightroom in flickr, disabling and re-enabling the plugin. Is there anything else I need to configure?

This is appalling and, as Stéphane had pointed out, I have previously reported it against the release candidate.
It would be appreciated if you can confirm that this is the cause of the error simply to add more substance to the observation and it would also be appreciated if you could add your vote against the problem report in the link above.
Note I think if you are publishing or republishing a bunch of photos it is not necessarily the first in the thumbnail grid that causes the error.
    Alan.
PS - Edit ... whoops, we crossed in the post - still worth adding you vote though if you want it fixed.

  • Can someone please help?  Can't publish to Facebook in LR4.1

When I attempt to "authorize" Lightroom to access my Facebook account I get a "webpage cannot be accessed" and the address "lightroom://com.adobe.lightroom.export.facebook/#access_token="  and a ridiculously long string of jibberish afterward.  Same thing happens with the built in publish service for Flickr.   I am about to pull out what hair I have left because I've been unable to locate an answer to this issue.
Any insight or help from the professional community on this site would be greatly appreciated.

    Victoria,
For Facebook:  I used the following procedure found on another thread on this site dated 15 Mar 2012, The  "Failed to receive the authentication token." will show up as a blue hyperlink right above the "Change Account" button.
I found I was able to complete it only using Microsoft IE on windows using the following method:
    1. Delete Lightroom from the Apps on your account
    2. Re-authorize from Lightroom (make sure Microsoft IE is the default internet browser)
    3. When authorizing IE will go to an invalid URL - just copy all of the URL
    4. When Lightroom notifies "Failed to receive the authentication token." Click on it to bring up "lightroom://..." under the Facebook Authorization URL
5 Replace "lightroom://..." with the URL you copied and it will be authorized
Note it doesn't seem to work with either Firefox or Google Chrome
As for Flickr...Under the "Sharing and Extending" tab in Flickr, Lightroom is not showing up.  Under the LR Publish Services, Plug in Manager, Lightroom indicates I can't save my changes to the Flickr set up because I am not logged in to Flickr, when in fact I am.  Logging out of Flickr and logging back in has no effect on the process as LR still returns the same thing.
I'm baffled, to say the least.

  • How do I move photos between projects if the photo is published in Flickr/Facebook

I have a TOSORT project in my library that I use to triage photos as they come in. I go through and work on the photos and then move them to an appropriate library.  I made the mistake of accidentally publishing some photos to Flickr/Facebook from this folder and now I can't seem to move them out. Any tips/tricks I am missing?

The answer is that you cannot do a complete Move so long as the FB/Flickr album exists.  See:

  • Error message when publishing to Flickr through Lightroom 3

When I update one of my collections in Lightroom and then directly  publish into my Flickr account, I often get the following error message:   Flickr API returned an error message (function upload, message  Filesize was zero).  Does anyone know why I am getting this or what I  need to do to resolve? Thanks in advance for your help

i get exactly the same thing. but i do have mobile me. i created a site and published it to one of my mobile me accounts. it worked fine. then i moved the file to another computer, made some changes to the text and republished. this time i got the 'publishing error' message described above.
then i tried opening a a new mobile me account, and published said site to this new account. same problem.
then i tried publishing to a folder. i also cannot publish to a folder, or more specifically, when i publish only some of the files seem to get published before that message appears.
strange thing is some of these files do appear in the folder and i was successfully able to upload this folder to the iDisk. and the site partially worked (to see it: www.designersdetails.com) but only those files that got published before the error message work. a good portion, including the picture galleries and the google maps page do not work.
can anyone shed any light on this? i've followed all of the suggestions i have found in the forums. nothing works.
    thx

  • Lightroom 4.1: Publishing Service Flickr plugin; Using HTML in Caption field

    All,
After hours of troubleshooting I have narrowed down a problem with an error message I’m getting when I try to export from Lightroom 4.1 using the Flickr Publishing service. The error msg is:
    Can't update this collection
Could not contact the Flickr web service. Please check your Internet connection
I have narrowed down the problem to my attempt to add basic HTML tags to the Caption (Description) Field of the Meta Data. This has worked perfectly well in all versions of Lightroom 3.6 and below (I didn’t try this type of export using Lightroom 4.0). I have also noticed that a simple page break, such as below, will also throw the same error:
“Lorem ipsum @evansante.com dolor sit amet, consectetuer
adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nibh euismod tincidunt ut laoreet dolore magna aliquam erat veniam, quis nostrud exerci t”
Flickr will recognize URL in simple text and format them properly so:
“Lorem ipsum http://www.myurl.com dolor sit amet, consectetuer “
    Will work.
Does anyone know of a work around that will allow including page breaks or HTML??? Thanks in advance - CES

This bug, in a related way, has been noted by several users some time ago …
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/999503?tstart=30
and was reported as a bug a month ago during the release candidate period …
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lightroom_4_1_rc2_a_cr_or_lf_n_the_m iddle_of_a_caption_causes_failure_to_connect_to_flickr
Although the above mentioned bug is raised specifically in relation to “Breaks” in the caption text I believe it may be symptomatic of either generically poor XML information encoding by LR when talking to Flickr or poor / incorrect use of Flickr Api’s which cannot cope with trivial complexity in the caption field.
    – in either case it needs fixing with some priority in my opinion, but possibly the philosophy of the on-going Flickr plugin support needs fixing too.
The LR Flickr publishing service has not been maintained very well in my opinion even when fixes may sometimes be trivial.     Perhaps Adobe would do well to employ or contract with JF for such plugins in future.    I use the excellent SmugMug plugin as the yardstick by which I measure the Flickr plugin.
A fix should also be treated as priority because the LR error message takes aim at the reliability of your internet connection which may cause some to erroneously try to chase down non-existent problems with a perfectly good infra-structure or OS / Firewall configuration – that is seriously bad advice for a caption related LR bug and has scope to seriously compound the problem for the user!
Adobe, you have a responsibility to fix this before people mess with their reliable setups.
Sorry, I am not aware of any work rounds to your problem with this and suspect it may be a windows only problem (please confirm if not).
Although not entirely exactly as per your problem (I believe it is generically the same) you may wish to add your vote to the above mentioned problem report or raise a new one.

  • Publish to Flickr doesn't update

Created account in iPhoto for Flickr. Added some photos, and iphoto uploaded them. Now 2 months later, I added some more photos to the Flickr library in iphoto, but they are not being sync/uploaded to Flickr.
Clicked the circle, wireless looking icon in library, and still nothing.

I am having a similar problem with uploading to Flickr since upgrading last week to iPhoto 09 (v 8.03)
My former iPhoto Uploads album (which becomes a set on Flickr) will not upload drag and drop additions to Flickr. I tried creating another album (iPhoto Uploads 2, hit the Flickr button, and uploaded one image (a new set); all good so far. I then tried dragging another image from iPhoto to this new album - no go. There is no publish button at this stage, nor the small circle which used to appear beside the album indicating uploading (referred to by Blademan007)
What hasn't been fixed in this latest release is the former glitch i.e., every publish via the Flickr button results in the creation of a new album in iPhoto with a resulting new set in Flickr. And now we appear to have lost the drag and drop to the album workaround.
There's something seriously wrong here. Frustration!

  • Publish to Flickr; Marking previously uploaded photos as published

I was using Lightroom 2 and Jeffrey Friedl's Export to Flickr plugin, so I have a smart collection of the hundreds of photographs that I have already uploaded to Flickr. However, I do not see a way to mark those photographs as already published in the new Flickr Publish Service that is in LR3 by default. I dragged the images into the collection and clicked "publish," but this uploaded second copies of the photographs rather than replacing the photographs already in my Flickr Photostream. Is there any way to mark the previously uploaded photos as published so I do not have to re-upload and lose my views, comments, favorites, and more?

    Seán McCormack
There's no way for Flickr to tell Lightroom what's already online,  because there's no link between the online file and Lightroom.
I'm pretty sure there is a way to create these misisng links (well, I don't know the Flickr API in detail and there may be limitations that makes this harder). The needed logic would be similar to the "omit suspected duplicates" when importing. You just use the APIs to walk true the shots in Flickr and compare metadata againts the catalog. When there is a match, a link is added. To be on the safe side, the user could then confirm that the matching was right and approve the new links. Could take a while, but only needs to be done once.
Yes, I aslo think there is a clear need for this feature.

  • Missing GPS data after Publish to Flickr

Hi, I'm using a GPS Geotagger with my D3.
In LR3.2 I can see GPS data correctly in my metadata.
I then publish photos to Flickr using th built in LR publishing service.
When I check the metadata in Flickr there is no associated GPS info in the EXIF data.
I haven't got anything checked like 'minimize embedded metadata'
Anyone have this working or is it a known problem?
    Thanks
    Bill

    1/ to answer your question:
I don't have any user generated tags/kewords/captions on these historical pictures - but normal metadata (camera EXIF data) is showing up fine on flickr.
2/ I went ahead and tried Jeffery Friedl's Flickr Lightroom publishing plugin - it works well and GPS data is correctly picked up by Flickr.
so - unless anyone can demonstrate a working adobe flickr publishing setup with gps data I will assume it doesn't work and continue to use jeffery's.
    Thanks
    Bill

  • Lightroom 5: Internal Error when publishing to Flickr

When I try to setup a Flickr link from the Lightroom 5 Publishing Servicing by clicking on "Authorize" I'm redirected to the flickr webpage where I click on "Ok, I'll authorize it", then the webpage turned blank with a link like this:

Back into Lightroom 5, I clik on "Done" and then get this popup error message:

    Hi James
This can sometimes occur if the Flickr settings have the box checked against 'hide from public site areas'
If so, uncheck it and see if that solves the problem.
