Publish website on iWeb

I'm trying to publish my website for the 1st time. It uploads 3/4 the way, then it stops & a message saying "An unknown publishing error has occurred." I don't know what's wrong. Any tips?

A family member is hosting my site and is not familiar at all with iWeb.  this is what he had to say though could be the problem.  I don't know what this means really but does it ring any bells for someone?
He wrote:
The only thing I see is that you are maybe writing to the wrong folder. It looks like iWeb created a www.awakenproductions.org. Instead your files should just go to the main folder ‘/’.  Do you see a setting in iWeb where you can change this? Again, not that familiar with iWeb myself.
When I asked him what '/' means he wrote this:
The ‘/’ is what is called the root. I’m guessing iWeb has a setting to tell it what directory to put files in and it just needs to be / for that value.
Thoughts?!  I'm getting desperate to get the new info published...it's time sensitive.  Thanks!

me.com has been closed and icloud is running,
i have icloud id, i want to publish website via iweb but its not working, not showing option to publish at icloud, please help me
    i have Macbook Pro 13''

    Mountain Lion 10.8.2

iCloud does NOT allow you to host your web sites. You can continue to use iWeb but, will need a 3rd party web host to upload your websites to. Depending on the version of iWeb you are using you have a couple of publishing options:
iWeb '09 (3.0.4) you can publish to an FTP Server or a local folder. ( With the built in FTP in iWeb you will end up with an address like "www.YourDomain.com/sitename/Home.html )
iWeb '08 you can publish your website to a local folder
I have been using IX Webhosting for several years with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across. The have plans that start at $3.95 a mo (USD) and their customer service is top notch.

  • How can I edit a published Website in iWeb again?

Did you find an answer on this, or give up? I've done the latter, and recommend that you also consider buying a more useful application for this purpose.
This really is an unbelievably silly oversight on Apple's part to "break" our webpage interface so that users lose their website (which I did by trying to link iweb to it) or cannot edit it in any way after a new install nor find it for edit from another machine (like my laptop).
The whole idea of this "basic" software was that we users don't need to be "savvy". But this takes savvy to a whole new level.
I recommend you, find some freeware or just buy a decent app, that actually allows you to download the website into it (like the Netscape Communicator's built-in webpage editor used to do). It allowed the user to save the currently loaded webpage, edit it, and publish it properly.
    Good luck to us all.

  • How to publish website from iWeb ?

    Hi Apple Geniuses
I have downloaded Server 2.1.1 thought I would be able to publish my website after losing MobileMe hosting. I would love to publish it again but the process with Server seems to be more complicated, not to say...less straight forward. I have tried some couple of thing but unsuccessfully.
Would anyone of you recommend the step to follow using Server software only (and not recommending any third party website please) to enable the publishing of my website. Alternatively , does anyone would recommend tutorial on how to use Server to publish website.
To all of you, in advance, Thank you.
    Fred

    Hi Mark
I grately appreciate your support and the first couple of steps were easy to follow. However , I'm quite puzzled with the last paragraph in regard to DNS, DynIP, CNAME...
When I have allocated the folder , it did change the TCP from 80 to 443 and I manually reset it to 80...is that where you told to direct the TCP to?
Here is a snap shot of my setting
Let me know if I'm going the right route thank you.

  • Already published website

I published a website but my computer crashed. I saved the site to iDisc, now I want to pull it up in iweb again. How do I open the already published website on iweb?

The short answer is that you can't.

  • Can I make another website using iWeb,then publish it to a different server through the SMTP panel on iWeb

Can I make another website using iWeb, and then publish it to a different server through the SMTP panel on iWeb, even though I have a website published on mobile me, can I just use the SMTP engine to publish a different site but to a different server, that's the question I'm asking. I'm hoping for a quick reply. Thank you for your time in reading this.

Yes.  You can do it one of two ways:
1 - select FTP Server in the Publish To menu (click on the site folder to get to the options) and enter the FTP address, username and password and publish as you would if using MMe.
2 - select Publish to Folder and publish. Use a 3rd party FTP client like  Cyberduck to upload the site files to there server using the FTP address, etc.

  • When I opened iweb it opened as a file I deleated. I have a published website with godaddy and would like to update. How can I open the existing iWeb app to the site that is already published?

When I opened iweb it opened as a file I deleated. I have a published website with godaddy and would like to update. How can I open the existing iWeb app to the site that is already published?

You cannot retrieve the already published site as iWeb CANNOT open it - it has no import facility.
You need your domain.sites file, which you can find under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.  You do not need any kind of account for this because it is your domain.sites file that resides on the hard drive of your Mac anyway.  Find this file and you can alter your website.
Use a spotlight search to try and find it and if this does not work you can download something called Find Any File.  If you really can't find it, then you'll have to start from scratch because iWeb cannot open a site that is already published.

  • How can I publish my website from iWeb?

I have created a Website on iWeb - but did not realize that I would not be able to publish via MobileMe. I cannot publish on a local folder. How can I get my site online?

You will need to find a 3rd party webhost for your website, I have been using IX Webhosting for several years now with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across.

I published a website using iWeb.  I began using iWeb to create a second site and now I can't find my original site's work on my Mac.

If you're publishing directly from iWeb 3 to your FTP server then you'll have the following in your accounts root directory:
    Site 1 folder
    Site 2 folder
    Site 3 folder
index.html file from last published site directling to the last published site.
If you want to keep Site 1 as the primary site you'll need to publish it one more time to the server so you get it's index.html file uploaded.
Now you'll have to publish Sites 2 and 3 to a folder on the hard drive and use a 3rd party FTP client like Cyberduck, YummyLite or Transmit  to upload only the site folder (and not its external index.html file with it).
The url to sites 2 and 3 will be:
    http://doman_name.com/Site 2
    http://doman_name.com/Site 3

  • How do I publish multiple websites from iweb?

Hi, I'm new with iweb and .mac in general and wanted to know about publishing multiple accounts from my iweb.
I bought a five-user edition of .mac last week and I wanted to get at least three different websites up and running. One site is almost 50% done and has uploaded just fine but when I tried to create another site in iweb, I have no idea where it's going. I created a second account in .mac and it shows up (I can log into and everything) but how can I publish to my brand new site without the other one going through each and every time?
This question may sound really dumb but please bear and mind that I'm a newbie with iweb and mac (I just got this powerbook in Sept. 2006).
    Thanks in advance,
    Dale

Actually, Dale, this is a pretty common question.
If you want the different sites to load to different .mac accounts (or different sub accounts), the easiest solution is probably to set up several different user accounts on your computer, one for each .mac sub account. In each of those accounts, set the appropriate .mac info in system preferences. Seems like I've heard of another approach, but this is probably the simplest.
Have you already started building a second site in the same user account (on your computer) as the first site? If so, we'll need to walk you through domain separation, too.
One other heads up: it is very important to back up your domain files (in your case in each account). The domain file is found in ~/library/Application Support/iWeb, where ~ refers to your home folder for your user account on the computer. Make sure to make a backup copy (preferably on an external hard drive or CD) after every major change in your website. Don't be lulled into thinking that a published website serves as a backup. It is not possible to import a published site back into iWeb. The domain file is your only link to creating/editing the site in iWeb.
Please post back if you have any questions or if I haven't been clear.

  • Just published my first iweb website : need reviews and advices

    Hey all,
I just published my first iWeb website, which I created over the past few days. It's in French and related to my wedding, but I'd be interested in hearing your reviews on how I can improve the website, add new functionalities, and make it even more user friendly.
I'd like to add a guestbook, but haven't found one that I like enough as off now. I also would like to add more features / multimedia stuff, so any idea is welcome.
Just a note : our wedding theme is on the 50s, and the colours are brown and old pink. The first pic on the welcome page is a drawing of me and my wife inspired by an old ad we found on internet.
    http://www.davidetcoraline.com/
I also would like to know if I can have a facebook integration without using MobileMe. I'd like any new article published on the website to be posted directly on my facebook account. Is that possible ?
    Thanks for your reviews.

Is there something I can do to allow that zoom command to work properly ?
David ~ I don't know, but you may be able to find something in the many threads on the topic — click HERE.
If not, consider using a larger font for your text in iWeb. I run my MB Pro at a non-native resolution so that everything appears bigger — but the text on your site is still uncomfortably small.

  • Can PC (i.e.,Windows/ non-Mac) users publish to an iWeb '09 Site?

I would like to create a website in iWeb '09 which will require multiple users to contribute/publish content, but the other site collaborators do not have Macs, just Windows-based PCs.
    Question:
If multiple people are needed to publish content to the same iWeb '09 website, do each of them have to have a Mac with the iWeb '09 program on their respective computers? Or:
    1) Is there a web-based iWeb publishing/content management tool (like Joomla or Zope)?
    2) Can one person publish using iWeb and others add/change content with another publishing tool/program?
    Any other suggestions are welcome.
    thanks.

Joomla should be Mac and PC compatible.
Once published, you can alter the site by using a simple text editor such as Text Edit on a Mac, Text Wrangler or Taco or any other text editor. You can use Dreamweaver, which is Mac and PC compatible.

  • How do i import my previous website into iWeb?

I had previously designed my website in iWeb and published it, i then had to wipe my hard drive but backed everything up, now i can't seem to open or import my old website back into iweb, any help please?

John ~ In your backup, look for Domain.sites2 file which is usually located here:
...Double clicking that file should open it in iWeb.
