Published photos show up as a question mark

I published my web for the first time and I get an error message. The site published ok except the photos show up as little blue question marks..

What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand?  That's an indication that the photo file did not get uploaded to the server as it should have.  Where are you hosting the site and how are you uploading the files?

But when we run the oracle report the name is showed with 6 upside down question marks
I am not sure if these characters are unicode? (beyond western european character set)
    Oracle database: 11.2.0.1 with nls_characterset = AL32UTF8

You move it back to the Applications folder or reinstall it from your OS install disk, using Pacifist if needed.

  • What does it mean when an item in my dock shows up as a question mark?

I had this problem when I downloaded Firefox.  I don't know what I did, but the logo shows up fine now.  However, I downloaded a program called GIMP and -while I can get it to work- it still shows up as a question mark in my dock.  When I click on it, the icon shows up, but when I restart it goes back to a question mark.  Did I miss a step?  Should I reinstall?  I am lost.

This suggests that the application's being launched from a disk image. Drag it to the internal drive and from there to the Dock.

  • Buttons in my photo page are showing up as "blue question marks?

When I updated my website last night, the arrow buttons in my photo pages show up as blue boxes with question marks in them. This has never happen before. All of the images are fine, text is fine, even the numbers for the various pages of the photo album, just the "arrows" have the little "?" symbol. I have restarted the computer, refreshed, reset Safari, emptied the cache and nothing seems to work. I had a second party look on their Mac if it was the same on theirs and it is too.
I am posting to a server (not using mobile me). Any suggestions???

Publish to a local folder and launch this version in the browser by double clicking the index.html file.
If this is OK it means that you haven't uploaded all the files to the server.
If its not OK, try deleting the iWeb preference file before the restart. See "Fix iWeb" here....

  • I tried restoring deleted photos, now my i photo albums are showing blank spaces with question marks on where there should be photos!!

Can someone help me! I tried restoring deleted photos using time machine...I know I shouldn't have fiddled! When i went back to my i photo albums some of the photos had disappeared and in the space was a grey square with a question mark in. The photo still shows in the top area but i can't put it into a space. I have i photo 08. I don't know if it is an i photo album problem or I have in some way corrupted some of my photos. When i right click on the question mark the photo appears and I can drag back to the top area, it just won't show up in the album. Any suggestions? Thanks

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Notebook showing a folder and question mark.

Suddenly my notebook appears to not work.
When I switch it on I just get a picture of a folder with a question mark in it.
Any ideas what my problem is and how do I resolve it?
    Any info greatly appreciated.

That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the Operating System data on the hard drive is somehow corrupted.
With 10.4, 10.5 or 10.6 put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
Or if you are running 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion, boot from the recovery partition (Command +R on boot) and use Disk Utility to repair your OS 10.7 or 10.8 partition.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is, then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions. After repairing use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for restarting from your hard drive.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

  • Pictures from different sites doesnt show, it has small question mark sign at the center, why???? Please help.

Please help, i cant see any pictures on any web pages, it has small question mark at the center only.

Move the photos from the Trash bin in iPhoto onto the Library icon to get them back in their proper events.  Then check the thumbnails to see if they are still behaving the same.  If they are  make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Hi, I recently updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 6. Now old photo messages that have been sent to me appear as white boxes with blue question marks. How do I/ can I get them back?

  • G4 shows folder with blinking question mark on start up

I bought my son a used G4. It worked well. We noticed it had 2 hard drives and only one was hooked up. We plugged in the second one, rebooted it and it will not load X, 4.2. Tiger. It worked fine before so we unplugged the second hard drive plugged in the first on as before and we have the same problem. I have tried to boot from the install disc but it will only let me verify the drive not to repair it. Help please.

Look at A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58042
If two drives are installed, the jumpers on one must be located for Master & the jumpers on the second drive located for Slave. There should be a label on the drives showing the proper jumper locarions.

  • Mac stuck at white screen later shows blinking folder with question mark

Today for some reason my mac froze and I had to manually start it back up. After I started it back up it was stuck at a white screen and later on a blinking folder with a question mark came up. I've tried using shortcut keys on startup but none of them are working. it just keeps on showing the white screen and later on the blinking folder with the question mark. Is it just a problem with the HDD that's supposed to read the HD? Or is my HD the problem and I lost all my data?
