Published SharePoint site login page taking time to load on Internet

Hi,
We have deployed TMG 2010 in our client environment.
TMG is in Workgroup and
is deployed with Single Network Topology.
TMG version is 7.0.9193.540.
We have published an Internal SharePoint site on Internet with NO Authentication at TMG. the site is internally running
in default zone with windows authentication. Users get the windows pop-up to authenticate themselves when they hit the URL on Internet and will be redirected to the homepage after providing the authentication credentials.
Next, client has extended the site in other zone with Form based authentication and we have published the site on Internet in a same way with
NO Authentication at TMG level. The problem we are facing here is that the site login page loads in 2-3 seconds when accessed from the internal network but is taking a long time to load when somebody tries to access the same site on Internet.
Can anybody tell me what can be the issue for this? Is this a seen issue? We need a urgent fix for this.
Quick help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sanjog

Sanjog, I want you to try a couple of things for me. Put a client on the same subnet as TMG. Add a HOSTS file to it so that the name of your SharePoint site resolves to TMG. Try browsing it now. Is there a difference? If it is better then it is safe to say
it is your edge device. If that doesn't improve the performance try browsing it from the TMG Server. Make sure that IE is set up to not use any proxies (including itself). Do you still see the issue? If you do, there is likely a problem between TMG and your
SharePoint site. What devices reside in that data path? Simplify the path the data has to travel as much as you can and try to rule out certain devices.
SharePoint publishing is heavily reliant on your Alternative Access Mappings being set up correctly. Do you know if your SharePoint Administrator set these up? There are numerous articles available explaining these.
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sharepoint_strategery/archive/2013/05/25/alternate-access-mappings-explained.aspx
I have been supporting ISA/TMG/UAG for a number of years now and, in general, when we see these types of issues it is not a misconfiguration on ISA/TMG/UAG. In most of the cases there is some other network device causing the issue whether it be a Firewall,
a load balancer, a WAN optimizer, whatever.

Let me know if any of those suggestions help.

    Hi,
Thanks for your quick reply, Changes which I made are only in the LogonTopArea.jsp and in LogonBottomArea.jsp,
i.e i have added a flash and images, earlier the total file size of the
com.sap.portal.runtime.logon.par file used to be around 314 kb but now it is around 800kb.
Other than that, nothing has changed,

Having a single internal hard drive overfilled (drives slow as they fill) is very likely contributing to your problems, but IMO "my Aperture library being on the same internal Tera byte drive as my operating system" is very unlikely to be contributing to your problems. In fact the Library should stay on an underfilled (roughly, for speed, I would call ~half full "underfilled") internal drive, not on the Drobo.
Instead build a Referenced-Masters workflow with the Library and OS on an internal drive, Masters on the Drobo, OS 10.6.8 (there have been issues reported with OS 10.7 Lion). Keep Vault backup of the Library on the Drobo, and of course back up all Drobo data off site.
No matter what you do with i/o your C2D Mac is not a strong box for Aperture performance. If you want to really rock Aperture move to one of the better 2011 Sandy Bridge Macs, install 8 GB or more of RAM and build a Referenced-Masters workflow with the Library and OS on an internal solid state drive (SSD).
Personally I would prefer investing in a Thunderbolt RAID rather than in a Drobo but each individual makes his/her own network speed/cost decisions. The Drobo should work OK for referenced Masters even though i/o is limited by the Firewire connection.
Do not forget the need for off site backup. And I suggest that in the process of moving to your new setup it is most important to get the data safely and redundantly copied and generally best to disregard how long it may take.

  • Any Way to stop PUBLISHING a site or page?

Does anyone know how to stop PUBLISHING a site or page created in iWeb, yet maintain the page for future reference in the iWeb program? For Example. I created a "holiday card" page and now that the holiday season is over, I want to stop publishing it (take it down off the interent), HOWEVER I want to save it in iWeb for next year future use.

Here's what I do, without messing around with domain separation:
Method 1 - If I want to just keep the items on the page for reference.
    - Duplicate the page.
    - Go to the duplicate. Unlink it from the navigation menu if it was a navigation menu page. Rename it if you want, eg Home-old.
    - Keep it there.
    - Publish away. Since it is a duplicate and unlinked, no-one is going to find it through normal browsing unless they know the exact address of the renamed page.
    - If you want to keep things really tidy, just delete the published page.
    - When you want to make your page back to how it was, just copy and paste the required elements from the old page to your new page.
Method 2 - If I want to keep the entire page as is for later relinking.
    - Unlink the page from the navigation menu if it was a navigation menu page.
    - Unlink it from all other pages that referenced it.
    - Rename the page if you want, eg Home-old.
    - Publish away. Since it is unlinked, no-one is going to find it through normal browsing unless they know the exact address of the renamed page.
    - If you want to keep things really tidy, just delete the published page.
    - When you want to make your page back to how it was, just rename it back to the old name and link it back into the navigation menu and from other pages.
Unfortunately, archiving (and unarchiving) pages is not possible in iWeb - it's certainly on my wish list.
I feel domain separation is a bit of a pfaff when there is no way of importing pages from other domain files at the moment.

JVM (java virtual machine) If you have a full stack, infrastructure + BI forms you need 2 gb at least only to install, if you plan to make some work on it it could happen that the computer get very slow.
In opmn.xml file, in the seccion for the home container (or other you are using) there is a line for Start Parameters, there you have to use the -Xmx1024M to se the maximum JVM size to 1gb, for this you will have to restart the proc.
For forms also there are some procs where you manage the size of the memory and procs, you can see this in the Configuration Seccion into the EM Console.

  • Opening .xlsm file sin SharePoint site landing page

I'll begin by saying Hello to the forum. I have only very recently started using MS SharePoint within our company, having had no previous experience of it, so please expect quite a few 'beginners' questions coming this way over the coming months.
To manage our data maintenance processes, I have developed a set of form applications within Excel, using VBA to provide a user-friendly interface to the data requestor/providers within our business. Of course it is very difficult to provide any kind
of manageable/visible workflow solution using only Excel and so the business has made the decision to utilise SharePoint as the host.
We currently have a split between data objects where a workflow solution has been created for customer/vendor, using my form applications as the data entry tool. Materials however currently sit within a document library on a department SharePoint site.
The site was created by A.N.Other who has now left the business and I have therefore been tasked with managing it. Initially, this is as simple as updating and loading the .xls/.xlsm form applications to the document library.
And so, to my first problem. Where a visitor to the site navigated directly to the document library and clicked on an .xlsm file, they were presented with an error message that states:-
    <v:shapetype coordsize="21600,21600" filled="f" id="_x0000_t75" o:preferrelative="t" o:spt="75" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe"
    stroked="f"><v:stroke joinstyle="miter"><v:formulas><v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0"><v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0"><v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1"><v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2"><v:f

are not supported by Excel in the browser:</v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:formulas></v:stroke></v:shapetype>
    Data Validation
    Sheet Protection
Would you like to try and open this file in Excel?
    <v:shapetype coordsize="21600,21600" filled="f" id="_x0000_t75" o:preferrelative="t" o:spt="75" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe"
    stroked="f"><v:stroke joinstyle="miter"><v:formulas><v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0"><v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0"><v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1"><v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2"><v:f

in the client application by changing the settings for the documents library.</v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:formulas></v:stroke></v:shapetype>
The problem is that on the landing page of our department site, we have a side navigation menu that links to some of the most frequently used files. If the visitor clicks on any of these files (which of course point to the same source
document) they again see the error message, and no matter how hard I look, I am unable to find the option to make the file open in the client application from here.
I was hoping that the experts here may be able to advise on where I may find this option, if available?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Danny

Excel Services is clearly out due to the VBA and Macro elements you've added.
Just to present an alternative point of view for this.  If you want to surface just ONE spreadsheet on a homepage, this can be done but it involves a slightly different route about it.
The Page Viewer Web Part might present an alternative for you.  I don't know if it'll disable the warning dialog boxes but it might be worth a try.  More info can be seen here
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/sharepoint-server-help/page-viewer-web-part-HA010024045.aspx
If that one doesn't work, there is another trick in which we can try importing an earlier version of this tool from SharePoint 2003 (which oddly enough was actually better!) to see if that'll help.

    Hi,

    Regards,
            Sreelash

Hi Ross, the image loading problem is not solved yet. The client needs to solve it at any cost. He is saying that the problem might be with the effeciency of code. So my PM is asking to modify the code.Youc can view the image scroller in this specified site: http://test.nysaenet.org/NYSAENET/NYSAENET/Home/
I am attaching the class that is using for loading images. In this class, after loading the images, some masking effects are given. I think you can understand about after viewing the image scroller and the class. Hope you ll reply as soon as possible. I am wasting more than one week for this purpose. I am not getting any idea.

  • Query taking time to load

    Hi:
We are using a common component for generating query screens wherein we just have to pass a query number to the component which in turn return a list view of records.
We have a particular Query which when executed through Toad or any SQL tool returns records within 4-5 seconds but the same one takes almost 3 minutes to load from Front End.
What could be the possible reason for the page to take so much time to load.
We are using WebSphere 6.0.2.17 server. Is there any settings to be done for statement cache size or for any connection timeout or is there anything to be done at Oracle side.
Since the moment we change the query number to some simple query like select * from dual kind the screen loads instantly.
P.S: The query takes almost 4-5 seconds to execute in backend through TOAD.
    Avadhoot Sawant

    So 45 or 47? Nevertheless ...
This is hardly a heavy calculation, the savings will be dismal. Also anything numeric is very easy on CPU in general.
    But
    convert( numeric(8,5), (convert( numeric,T3.COl7) / 1000000))
    is not optimal.
    CONVERT( NUMERIC(8,5),300 / 1000000.00000 )

Now it boils to how to make load faster: do it in parallel. Find how many sockets the machine have and split the table into as many chunks. Also profile to find out where it spends most of the time. I saw sometimes the network is not letting me thru so you
may want to play with buffers, and packet sizes, for example if OLEDB used increase the packet size two times see if works faster, then x2 more and so forth.
To help you further you need to tell more e.g. what is this source, destination, how you configured the load.
Please understand that there is no Silver Bullet anywhere, or a blanket solution, and you need to tell me your desired load time. E.g. if you tell me it needs to load in 5 min I will give your ask a pass.

  • Contact or Custom List - How to: Checkbox Results Link to Other Sharepoint Sites or Pages

    Hi,
I am building a fairly simple employee contact list with the following column headers: Employee Name, Location, Department. For the location and department I am using the checkbox option with preset options (location: California, Nevada, etc. department:
sales, HR, etc.). My hope is that once a new employee is entered and the checkboxes choosen, that the new results would have clickable links that would take them to the larger group (page or site).
    Example:
A new employee joins the company, Mary Beth, the HR person adds the info of the employee in the contact list, once updated you see the following:
    Craig Johnson | Florida| Operations, Sales |
Mary Beth | California | HR, Sales |
Sam Smith | New York | Compliance |
California can be clicked on, that would go to the California page that has that locations info and employee list for that state. If you click on Sales, that would go to the Sales page that has the sales teams info and employee list.
Any ideas on how to make the checkbox results show up as clickable links? (Preferably as simple as possible, I am still figuring sharepoint out)
    Thank you.

    Automated approach:
Create a new lookup list, Locations, and populate with locations
Add a new column to Contacts list of type URL. Call it Location (or whatever)
Add a new column to Contacts list of type Lookup, pointing to Locations list.  Call it Select.
Create a new 2010 workflow that triggers on change
In this workflow, build a series of "Else Ifs" that check for the various locations available.  if one matches, the Set function is executed for that ElseIf branch
For any specific location, set the "Location" column to: "YourURLForThatLocation," + TheSelectColumnValueInCurrentItem"
Create a new view, make it the default, so that it displays the Location column but not the Select column.
Add appropriate descriptions to the Select and Location columns to guide users on which ones to use and not use and how.
Note: when using a workflow to set the value of a URL column, you must separate the two values of this column with a ",".  no other special characters or values.  Just two values separated by a comma.

    Hi all,
i have developed a site using SiteStudio. It takes ages to load for the first time. When i investigate i could find that reason behind is huge number of HTTP request(58 total). about 90% of these hits is generated from CSS files and js file. As of now i have stored them inside the content server and accessing them from there. The css and js refers to may images receiding in the content server.
IS there some way i can reduce the requests that are made.

    Hi,
What languages are you all using for your sites? We personally use JSP and get just amazing performance even under significant loads. I have seen a couple sites recently though that were dog slow, all of them though were running ASP.
I've had a lot of luck diagnosing performance issues by using the FireBug plugin for Fire Fox. There's a "NET" tab on the plugin and it will give you the load time for each item on the page.
    Thanks

Can't find the setting or switch that prevents this additional an unwanted window/tab from opening everytime. Maybe once upon download but it repeats everytime and won't go away.

hello, this might happen when firefox is not able to properly save preferences in its profile folder. please try this: Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and then click help [[Image:Help-29]] > troubleshooting information > profile folder - "show folder". then a new window will open up. in this window look out for a file named '''user.js''' (it might be used to overwrite your custom settings). in case it is present , delete or rename this file and restart firefox afterwards.
for more information and other steps please also see: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]]
