Published VODs No Longer Playable

Hi,
Just ran into this weird problem with our Show & Share (v.5.3). When I upload videos to the server everything looks fine but as soon as I publish those video they are unplayable. No error or anything the video just wont start. Any help would be appreciated

Hi Steven,
I assume you have an external server that you have defined in the Show and share config to store the published videos, correct?
When you upload the video on the Show and Share and try a preview, the video would be playing from the Show and Share device itself. When you publish the video, it is then deployed to the external server you have defined (unless you selected the "publish locally" option). At that point, when you try to play the video, it will be accessed using the base URL for the external server you have defined in your Show and share config.
I would double check if the extenal server location and base URLs used to reach it haven't changed after you had set it up.
Regards,
Marco

Hi
my problem is, for each job_id there is many users. Oh that's something completlty different...
I Strongly Recommand to_
1.*create 2 tables Jobs & users*
2.*create a relation between them* 1 to many to get for each job more than a user that's the way that Must be -- execuse me the bad design of the db pulled u into this trap -
3.then u can deal with it normally no need to a sample code but just a form with Jobs as (Master) and Users as (detail) with a relation and with a simple query u can display each job_id is for many users.
no null values no commas r needed.
Hope this helps...

• Can't publish-project too long

I will give more background later, but to put my issue shortly, I will give the following info:
I have one video clip that I have trimmed (by taking a bit from the beginning and a bit from the end). It is almost 2 hours long (1:56 to be exact).
So, I have one clip in the project and no music. A pretty simple project. I say share with iDVD. It says it will take about 2 hours or so... and it seems to be going through all the appropriate processing, then, as it approaches the end of the process, it pops up with an error message from iMovie:
Unable to prepare project for publishing.
The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (Project is too long.)
(I'd give the little illustration, but whenever I bring up "Grab", it hides the pop-up error. Once I click on iMovie, the pop-up error returns. Weird!-- But this is a moot point as this isn't the problem- I need to publish my project to iDVD.)
Other facts:
I have 11.4 GB available on my hard drive, so this is not the issue. (I had cleared up space thinking that was the problem as this is the second or third time I've attempted)
The original movie file that is in the project is about 2.29 GB in size.
Oddly, it seems that an error pops up under my Aperture saying I don't have sufficient space for the library volume. I was doing nothing on the MacBook while this project was publishing, so not sure why that is coming up... and not sure why it would say there isn't sufficient space for the library if I have tons of space on my hard drive. And, why is it popping up each time I try to publish my iMovie project? There aren't any photos from Aperture even in the project.
This mp4 file that I am using is actually a file produced by Elgato Video Capture (This is a VHS to digital transfer), if this matters at all.
Previously, I had imported some jpegs into iPhoto, (for another iMovie project that I needed photos for), but iMovie could not "see" them even though they were there plain as day. So, I imported into Aperture those same photos, and iMovie was able to "see" those in Aperture (these 11 photos are all I have in Aperture as I have not ventured into Aperture much yet-- but needed a work around for some reason on this OTHER project). I give this info in the instance that this Aperture to iMovie link could be causing any issue with this project despite no photos being included in this project.

Even though it might seem like a lot of space those 11.4GB of space, you still might need a little more especially as iDVD can only just about handle 2hr. worth of video material to fit on one DVD-R. The target free space you might want to get closer to is something like 25GB of open free space (almost double what you have free now). Partially the reason is all that 2 hours needs to be converted from the format it's in now Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) to full MPEG-2. That's where things really start to expand and inflate. Then iDVD takes that whole MPEG-2 encoded file and makes an equally large Disk Image out of it that can then be burned to DVD-R. So the space requirements balloon up very quickly.
Sharing directly to iDVD can be full of surprises. Instead what you might want to try rather than Sharing to DVD is instead sharing it to the Media Browser from iMovie first (Large Size). Quit iMovie wants it completes the encoding. Open iDVD, go to the Media button down in the lower right hand corner of the Window and at the top of the Media Browser choose Movies. In the window you should see an iMovie Star icon with the project you shared immediately beneath that. Create a new project and drag that shared iMovie into the project window.

• HT1819 Audio Podcast episodes no longer playable/downloadable.

I produce an audio podcast through Hipcast and submission to itunes has been successful. Cut to a month and a half later and the episodes have all retroactively stopped working. Episodes are no longer downloadable or playable. What can I do?

The only workaround I've found is to Subscribe to a podcast I'm interested in.
This will download the most recent episode. It will also make the other available episodes appear in my iTunes, greyed-out. If I click the GET button there, the single episodes will download.
This works but doesn't change the fact that the most basic function - downloading a podcast from the iTunes store - DOESN'T work.

• Why aren't my songs previously playable on my iPad/iPhone (tho not purchased directly from iTunes) no longer playable on my devices?

Why aren't my songs previously accessible on my I/Pad 2/iPhone 4s devices in "Music" appearing in faint print & graphics no longer accessible? I had downloaded them into iTunes on my PC and previously synced them. Suddenly after recent syncing they were inaccessible. Why? (I previously downloaded an IOS_5 platform to my PC to use iCloud. Was working until recently.)

I too am having this problem. Its really frustrating. In fact i have my setting to have all music on my phone however the phone displays I have 2986 and the itunes reads 2987. I'm one off on this area. In addition some of my purchased music does not show in my purchased list on the phone. It does show on the itunes account on the computer and in the overall albums just not in the purchased. I drug the purchased song from the albums to the purchased playlist and tried to have it re-sync... did not work.. I tryed re-booting the phone, and restoring from back up all failed.
Another problem I have found since the IOS7 updates is the phone doesn't keep my music where it was when I get out of my car. I used to love that I would get out of the car in the middle of my playlist go in the store come out and it would pick up right where it left off. Now I get back in the car and it begins playing random music of all my entire library. I love all my music however I don't want to listen to Christmas and Halloween music all the time. I don't want to remove these from the phone as I want them always available. I just want the function to go back to how it was.
Oh and the last thing, sometimes when I turn my phone sideways and am listening to music the collage of albums shows but freezes so I cant turn the phone back and change the music. I like having the capablility of turning the phone to see pictures and things auto turn but not this collage of albums if it's gonna delay me swictching or skipping songs.
Any ideas for these issues? Is apple aware and working on these?

• HT1351 Is ripped music from a CD or downloaded for free legitimately from the artist no longer playable on iphones/pads/pods?

When syncing my Iphone it appears that any music that I ripped from a CD or downloaded from the artists's website is now unplayable on my iphone. Did Apple change their policies so that I can no longer listen to it from my phone? I can still listen to it in Itunes. Thanks

Okay, can someone please give a useful answer? Thanks! I have been experiencing exactly the same problem for some time now, and it is very annoying. Furthermore, I would like to point out to Chris CA that there is absolutely nothing ambiguous about the original post.
So here is the deal. I used to be able to burn CDs with iTunes that played back fine on both my car and home stereo. After some update, and I am very sorry but I really do not remember which one, as I am just a user and not a programmer and just want something that works, which in the end Apple used to be all about, and therefore do not keep track of all the updates, CDs won't play back on my car stereo. Nothing else changed, still the same brand of CDs (even the same stack!), still the same car stereo, and still the same 2007 MBP. So by simple deduction I conclude it must be a software update. And I do not care what the exact cause is, I just want a fix!
I'd like to apologize for my tone in the above, but it is just a very annoying problem, even more so because it seems nothing is being done about it. Thanks for your answer in advance!

• Flash content no longer playable??

I've noticed all of a sudden that QuickTime no longer plays Flash content. It did until not so long ago.
I know there was an option to activate Flash support, according to the Quicktime Help files, this is supposed to be found in System Preferences\Quicktime\Advanced. I'm quite confident it was there (I had to go and activate the switch when playback became optional, was it in QT6 or QT7?).
It's gone.
It's as if Flash playback never existed...
The weird thing is that I'm still at 7.3.1 . I've seen enough problems with 7.4 that I decided to wait out at least 7.4.1 . I seem to recall that 7.3.1 was still quite young when 7.4 came out, is it possible that the Flash issue was introduced in 7.3.1 and I just didn't notice it before?

My apologies - I overlooked that IS your thread!
As for permissions:
What are permissions?
Every file and folder on a Mac OS X hard drive has a set of permissions—settings that determine which user(s) have access to each item, and exactly what that access is. For example, permissions dictate whether or not a particular user can open and edit a particular file. But permissions also determine which items the operating system—or specific parts of it—can access and modify, and which files are accessible by applications.
What does repairing permissions do?
The Repair Disk Permissions function—the process that actually performs the task of repairing permissions—examines certain files and folders on your Mac’s hard drive to see if their current permissions settings are what Mac OS X expects them to be; if discrepancies are found, the offending permissions are changed to match the expected settings.
(In Mac OS X 10.3 and later, repairing permissions also performs one other, unrelated, task: If the invisible /tmp symbolic link—which is linked to the /private/tmp directory—is missing, the link will be recreated.)
Why is it necessary to repair permissions?
If permissions on particular files are “incorrect”—i.e., not what Mac OS X expects them to be or not what they need to be for your Mac’s normal operation—you can experience problems when the operating system tries to access or modify those files. For example, you may have trouble logging in to your account, printing, launching applications, or even starting up your Mac. Similarly, if an application—from Apple or a third-party developer—needs access to a particular file or folder to function, and the permissions on that item have changed in a way that prevents such access, the application may not function properly (or at all). The Repair Disk Permissions function can fix such problems by ensuring that certain files have the correct permissions.
There’s also a security element here: Many system-level files have permissions set a particular way so that applications or users that shouldn’t be meddling with those files can’t. If the permissions on certain system-level files somehow get changed so that access to those files is no longer restricted, you’ve got the potential for a major security issue. Repairing permissions can resolve such issues by resetting permissions on those files to prevent unauthorized access.
How do I repair permissions?
The Repair Disk Permissions function is part of Apple’s Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities). After launching Disk Utility, select the desired disk—generally your startup disk—in the list to the left, then click the First Aid tab. At the bottom of the First Aid panel, click the Repair Disk Permissions button. (You could instead use the Verify Disk Permissions option to preview any potential repairs before performing them, but for most users there’s little benefit from this extra step.)
Permissions can also be repaired via the shell (Terminal) by using the command sudo diskutil repairPermissions /. However, it’s unlikely that the typical user will ever need to perform the task in this manner. It’s useful if for some reason Disk Utility itself won’t launch, or for repairing permissions on a remote Mac when connected via Remote Login (SSH), but otherwise you’re just as well served using Disk Utility.
How does the Repair Disk Permissions function know what the “correct” permissions are?
When you use Apple’s Installer utility to install software (such as Mac OS X itself or an OS X update), the installation package (the .pkg file you double-click to begin installation, or that Software Update downloads in the background for an automatic installation) generally leaves behind a receipt—a smaller Mac OS X package that includes information about every file installed, including the permissions each file should have. This receipt is placed in /Library/Receipts. When you run the Repair Disk Permissions function, it examines the receipts in the /Library/Receipts directory of the disk being repaired—which means the feature works only on volumes with Mac OS X installed—and compares the information in the receipt with the actual files on your drive. If the Repair Disk Permissions function finds a file with permissions that differ from what a receipt claims they should be, that file’s permissions are reset to their receipt-specified values. (If you’re curious about the information contained in a receipt, the easiest way to view it is to use the utility Pacifist; simply drag and drop the appropriate receipt into the Pacifist window and you’ll be presented with a list of all files installed by the similarly-named installation package, along with each file’s original permissions.)
It’s worth noting here that although the function is called “Repair Disk Permissions,” what is actually happening is that files’ permissions are being reset or restored to a particular state. It’s possible—though not common—for a particular file’s permissions to differ from what a receipt claims they should be without those permissions actually being “broken.”
Are all files affected by Repair Disk Permissions?
No. As you may have inferred from the above description, only those files installed using OS X’s Installer utility and whose installation packages leave behind a proper receipt in /Library/Receipts are affected by the Repair Disk Permissions function. This means that most of the files affected by the Repair Disk Permissions function are system-level files, application files, or system add-ons—not applications installed by drag-and-drop, and not your documents or other user-level files.
If repairing permissions is useful in general, why doesn’t Apple recommend it as routine maintenance?
Apple does, quite explicitly:
It’s a good idea to repair disk permissions as a regular maintenance task after upgrading or installing new software.
That’s taken from Mac Help—in both Panther and Tiger—right on your Mac. Similar statements can be found in other Support articles, one of which is:

• New DVD's no longer playable

My latest project using iDVD 5 will make discs that play in any Apple computer, but will no longer play in a set top player. I can open an older project, burn a copy, and get it to work, but any new project will not play. I've not made any software additions or updates, and won't need to panic until tomorrow. Can anyone help me avoid tomorrow's panic?

This issue has been resolved although I am at a loss to explain why the problem exists as it does. The new projects that were not working were on one of four external drives. By moving the project to another external drive or to an internal secondary drive, the newly created DVD would play after burning. The "bad drive" actually seems fine in all other respects.

• Help! Material no longer playable since update...

Since 'upgrading' my AppleTV to V4.4 and iTunes to 10.5 I can no play some shows/films that played fine before the update.
I get the message 'An error occured loading this content. Try again later.'
I can play them ok in iTunes on the MacMini connected to my Apple TV2 so I think it must be something to do with the Apple TV.
These are mainly shows ripped from DVD's or downloaded and then converted in Handbrake.
I am a UK expat in India and the AppleTV is where my family and I watch almost all our content - Help!

Ok, found the problem - I had to toggle Dolby to 'On' from 'Auto'.
All my handbrake ripped files now play...
Thanks Apple, It Just Works ...sort of.

• G1 no longer playable on Pioneer car receiver after resetting.

I had to reset my first generation iPod Touch and then updated the OS. It resolved the audio issues I was experiencing, but now it won't play on my Pioneer head unit (DEH-69000UB). It just reads "Format Read" forever when I plug it in. Do I need to downgrade the OS? I don't see anything in the Pioneer manual or website about this.

Downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple. Some other uses have reported problems with car systems not working after updating the iOS. SInce 3.1.3 s the last update for the 1G, unless Pioneer can help you I do not have any suggestions.

• How long should it take to publish to mobileme?

I just built a (very small, very under-construction) website, which I am trying to publish to my mobileme account. I have plenty of available iDisk storage, and a brand new computer with 4GB of RAM. I hit "publish" on iWeb, and it's been over an hour. I have no way of knowing how much longer it's going to take to publish, because the only thing that the program is telling me is "Publishing." How long does it usually take to publish a site on MobileMe???

Welcome to the discussions. To publish a "very small" site via a typical ADSL connection should take only seconds. If this Apple doc doesn't help:

• Published video not working

After publishing my pages I cannot get the videos to work. I have tried to load the page with my mac using safari 3, the new beta 4. Firefox. Not working.
Tried to load the pages with my PC with firefox and IE. still nothing.
I must say this is frustrating. Considering I can play the movie that I drag and drop on my mac, and even on my PC. But the published page is not playable. Oh and I can watch the same move in my gallery on MobileMe just fine.
I have searched the intertubes but to no avail, It looks like it has been a problem with others, but no mention of any solutions.

That movie is 50MB in size. No wonder it takes so long to load. Converting to flash might be the way to go.
There are also ways to add the movie to the page so the movie doesn't load with the page but only when it's clicked on. Don't know if auto play is possible with these methods if that's what you want.
See these demo pages for the two methods I'm referring to:

• Videos and movies no longer recognized after AP 3.3.2 restore

I had to restore my entire hard disk due to corruption by Apple's iPhotoLibrary Upgrader utility. After a Time Machine restore (suggested by Apple Support), I realized that I did not backup the AP3 application. I got out my original AP3 install DVD, installed it, then upgraded it thru Software Update to vs 3.3.2.
After spending a day reconnecting my images to their references and updating the previews, I realized that my movie/video files are no longer playable in AP3.
The movie thumbnail appears distorted. Clicking on it opens the Viewer, but no movie appears. When I select 'Show in Finder' for a movie, the master file is correctly shown. The Master file is fine, it plays in Quicktime just fine.
I tried to reonnect the video files, but they have 'Online' status and the reconnection accomplishes nothing. I did note that when I go into the reconnect panel, I cannot see any movies in the bottom window, just jpegs and raw image files.
I took a new movie with my camera and tried to import it. Aperture does not see the movie on my flash card.
I tried opening my other libraries and observe the same behavior. So this problem is with the application and NOT the specific library.
I've also repaired permissions, and rebuilt the library, with no success.
The only thing I haven't tried is to reinstall AP3, which I just did yesterday. It just feels like my copy of AP3 doesn't have all the 'movie parts' included.
Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

I haven't selected the RAW+jpgs pair or anything,
You need to select exactly "RAW+jpg" pairs, otherwise, Aperture will import only jpeg or raw, and a video file is neither of those. If that does not help, check your video codecs:
Check, if you have the codec 3ivxVideoCodec.component installed, see how to remove it, if necessary: Aperture 3: May be unresponsive or have slower performance with third-party video codec
Also, try if removing the Flip4Mac video components will help, if you have them installed.

• Original files for songs on itunes can no longer be found, please help!!

My itunes has unfortunately been deleted and the ipod with the songs/playlists is no longer with us. My whole list of songs/playlists etc are stilllisted but they are no longer playable. When I try to play a song it just reads 'song cannot be played as the original file cannot be found' and proceeds to ask me if I like to locate it. Now I would never claim to be a competent computer user (hence no backup) but I have tried searching the computer to no avail. Any help/hints/tips would be very greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from you =)

If you had iTunes set not to copy added recordings into its own library, then the files might be anywhere and justreferenced in iTunes. Only you could know where you put the originals, but if careful searching doesn't find them that suggests they've been deleted.
If it did copy the files but you have deleted the library from your 'Music/iTunes' folder then the songs are gone. Again, if searching produces no results then the songs would appear to be missing from your computer.
With no backups, and the songs deleted, they are lost. 'iTunes in the Cloud' might enable you to re-download songs you had purchased, but I doubt this works on Leopard, which your signature says you have.

• ITune will no longer download podcast episodes

Okay, as the subject line said, I can't no longer download any podcast episode. This started to happen after I updated my Norton software last weekend. Now I can't play any episodes that were downloaded before the Norton update. I can still "grab" new episodes, but they show up with an exclamation mark right next to them as if the file hasn't been downloaded, but I can stream those files as if I am listening to internet radio. Obviously, I can't import those new episodes to my iPod because they aren't downloaded files. Also, my entire library of music are no longer playable in iTune as well. As of now, the only thing iTune is good for on my computer is listening to podcast episodes through internet streaming. I'm running a Window Vista 32-bit system. Help, anyone?

I'm having this exact same problem. Here's how it happened for me:
I was in my house about to leave waiting for someone, and it dawned on me to download some new or recent episodes of a podcast. I went into the Podcast app and started them, and then locked my device thinking that the episodes would be downloading. Little did I know they weren't on my wifi for some reason. I found this out when the person I was waiting for was ready to leave so we could go somewhere and I unlocked my phone in the car. At that point I switched over to LTE and the oldest of these 3 episodes I wanted to download started downloading and was completed in seconds. When it got to the other 2 remaining episodes, they both just had the status of "Preparing to download..." With the loading wheel that tells you how much has been downloaded at 0%. Still right now it's like this. Could this just be an issue with LTE, the podcast, or any of iTunes podcasts as a whole?
