Published website appears differently on the net

Hi,
I have published a webiste onto the internet but it appears differently and out of line on th net, ie not as i saved or intended for it to look like, it is the case when looking on a PC to the site.
what is happening here? please help.

i thought i web saved all text and images as JPEGs? so it wouldn't matter what text is used, it appears on the screen as it should for everyone....
It doesn't always convert all text to images. You may have to add shadow to force this sometimes.
By the way, you are not preserving the iWeb site structure when you upload, it looks like you are omitting the folder which iWeb creates which has the name you gave your site inside the iWeb app. If your site has any RSS links, this will break them.

Same colors appearing different in the same document

I have a document where I have filled different table cells with the same RGB color. However, they sometimes appear as two different shades, one darker than the other. I checked to be sure it was the same RGB color and it was, but it appears quite different both in InDesign and when I export it to pdf. Any idea why the same color is appearing differently in the same document?

It doesn't appear to be a monitor problem, as the colors are different both on my laptop screen and on my external monitor. As I do not have the ability to print a hard copy before the file gets sent to the printer to make a proof, I need to know which is the "right" color (or at least the once closest to how it will print). Even if the colors are showing up differently on screen, if the swatch for both is exactly the same, will it show up as the same color once the actual hard copy is printed?

Website appearing different/poorly in Chrome than In other browsers

I'm having a problem and hope to be able to send the file to an administrator to look at. I've been holding off launching the website because I can not get it to appear right in Chrome but it appears perfect in Firefox and Explorer. I have the latest version of Chrome. What is my issue here?

Why have I lost the Norton validation of websites when I search the net

I've just updated Firefox and now when I 'Google' websites the Norton validation ( a 'tick' against validated sites) has disappeared - why?

Timestamps are always GMT based (or could be thought of as timezone neutral) so what you should get back is a timestamp representing a GMT equivalent of the time you see that has a 6 hour offset from GMT. In other words, if the time were 1 PM Central Standard you would get a GMT time of 7 PM.
You should then be able to display that time in any time zone you wish using SimpleDateFormat and specifying the time zone you want to display it in. So if you then display it with Central Standard, the 7 PM GMT would then display as 1 PM again. In other words, 7 PM GMT and 1 PM Central Standard are the same timestamp
If you just display the timestamp using a toString(), you will get the time in the default time zone of the JVM..
Whether the driver actually does this correctly with the Oracle database I can't say. I've made several posts in a variety of places complaining that the driver does not work correctly with timestamps but my experience is limited to regular timestamp fields, not the new Oracle type of timestamp with timezone.
Based on my experience, what you are more likely getting back in the 1 PM- 7 PM example is 7 PM in the default timezone of the JVM.
You should look at the getTimestamp with Calendar options to see if they work better for you.
The main thing to keep in mind is that timestamps are really timezone neutral.

When clicking on name in address book -the email address appears different in the email address bar and can't be sent -why?

I have been using thunderbird for some years - in last month when I have been trying to send some emails I have a problem with some of them in that part of the email address has changed when I insert it ino the address bar and has inverted commas around the first part of the address before the @. I have tried deleting the addresses and re-inserting them but the same thing happens. If I go into the address bar and delete the commas the email is sent - can I overcome this problem without having to go into each email? I send out emails to many people and changing each one that has the problem takes a long time. Not every email address has this problem. Many thanks -Tim

ok, I've spent some time doing various scenarios.
I have managed to replicate one scenario which does as you say.
If my contact in the address book:
With name details as Peter Foo
email address: [email protected]
where there is an inserted space before the name peter, of course this is not instantly noticeable, but it is as if you hit the space bar just before typing the email address.
Then when I use the Contacts Sidebar in a Write message, it will add the email address like this:
Peter Foo <" peter"@somewhere.com>
which of course in invalid.
but in the address book, if highlight the contact, in the section below the email address in blue -if I click this to send an email the email address is printed exacly with the space and it will send as if nothing is wrong.
So i'm asking you to check those email addresses which insert incorrectly via the Contacts sidebar. They only do this for me if there is a hidden inserted space at the start of the email address.

I am using firefox 4 and my website looks different in the LCD and Laptop(both with same screen resolutions). The same looks ok with firefox 3.6. Why i am getting this difference?

I am using firefox 4 and i can see difference in the laptop and the lcd. The site looks fine with firefox 3.6 for both and also for all the browsers. Only for firefox 4, things are getting screwed in laptop, as it looks fine for the LCD.

Why does my newly published website look different in every browser?

It looks closest to what I created when viewing in IE. Graphics are screwed up in Firefox, and colors are wrong in Safari. Also, my add to cart buttons work in Firefox and Safari but not in IE. Can anyone help??

You need to be aware of the limitations of the various browsers and make sure you use web-safe fonts and colors.....

Do a Command A on all your pages in iWeb to make sure that objects/text boxes are not touching or overlapping.
Firefox has problems with displaying drop shadows/frames etc.

Random Green Wallpaper Screen Appeared While Surfing the Net

So I was reading some news articles on chrome when all of a sudden my desktop wallpaper went a bright green color and all the desktop icons became hidden as well as the other windows I had open from other programs. At first I was *** and instantly went to open a folder to make sure everything I had saved to my desktop still existed. Next, I went googling my problem and after having no luck started shutting down programs. After shutting down vlc my desktop returned to normal and the random green wallpaper disappeared. Not quite sure what happened or what caused it to happen. Wondering if I should be concerned about anything internally on my Imac.

True that adding more RAM gives better performance in OS X.
If you watch the memory usage, either via Apple Activity Monitor (in the Applications Utilities folder) or other utility, you can see how much of your RAM is being used.
The free utility MemoryStick gives a quick summary of total RAM in use, and number of virtual memory swap files. <http://www.tidbits.com/matt/?@@>
I found that when I added more RAM, the number of VM swap files went down, and the waiting or slow responding of some of my applications (when I had many apps open simultaneously) went away.
Though I do not know if there will be much fan behavior changing.
You may want to try some of the reset processes - Resetting the PRAM, PMU (Power Management Unit) or SMU (System Management Unit).

I know the newer 2005 iMacs do a power/system reset by having the power cord unplugged from the back of the iMac, and leave off for 15 seconds, then replug into back. (not from wall, but from back of iMac itself). Not sure if that applies to your 2004 iMac G5 1.6GHz, but it is simple enough to give that a try, along with the usual reset of PRAM and possibly reset of NVRAM.
Looks like the 2004 iMac G5 reset their power with an internal button push. So best to try the PRAM resetting first>> press Command-Option-P-R keys when you start up, just after you hear the statup chime.
Continue to hold those keys until you get two more restarts, and hear two more chimes, then release.
If that doesn't seem to bring the fan revs down, you may need to do the internal PMU/SMU reset. Instructions here <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301283>, step 11. But this involves taking the back cover off, so is a bit more involved.

Song information appears different in itunes library

generally go to FILE- ADD FOLDER TO LIBRAY , and import all songs from my hard drive into itunes , but the format of track names appear differently in the itunes track name area
1 - some of my track names are very long. When i copy into itunes library from the hard drive i see a different format
sometimes i dont see the full track name, if the track name is more than 35 characters
2 - but sometimes, even if it more than 35 characters i see the full track name
3 - sometimes - i only see half the track name, and surpringly, the first half of the track name has not been caught ( generally you would - as in the case of my first question - would expect to see the first part of the track name
4 - sometimes i see the track name in 2 parts - and though the artist name is included in part of the track name in the hard disk, in itunes it automatically is shown in the artist colomn, ( but note here - mostly the itunes library catches whatever is in the track name of the hard disk - and substitutes it in the track name of itunes )

Solution found. I find this amazing, but the iTunes library and the iPod treat duplicates in different ways. In iTunes, if one accidentally ends up with a duplicate song (for example by ripping the same CD twice, not realizing it was ripped before) the iTunes library shows the song twice (and the underlying mp3 files exists twice in the store). And the number of songs showing in the library includes both copies of the song, the original and the duplicate. If you then synch up the iPod, however, iTunes only loads one copy of the song to the iPod. So in my case it transpired that there were 40 duplicates on my computer, none of which downloaded to the iPod, and that is why the song count was higher in the iTunes library, and why the volume of music in the library showed as 240 MB more than what was in the iPod. Very strange design that iTunes knows enough not to download duplicates, but still shows them in the library. Solution is to go to Edit / Show Duplicates in the iTunes library, but be careful as there will be many false positives.

Why do my RAW files appear different between programs?

I have rendered a series of three RAW images as an HDR file in Photoshop CC, saved as a 16-bit TIFF file, and imported it into Lightroom. The image appears different between the two programs. The Lightroom image appears to have some editing done already and is not nearly as flat as the image in Photoshop. I have made sure my Adobe software is up to date concerning both programs and the camera raw information that can be updated via Adobe.

The iPad stores the raw photo data, but displays an iPad optimized version of the original image in its place.
This image is usually an optimized JPEG image, so the quality will not be the same as the raw image file.

I'm having to clear cache and cookies daily to have certain favorite websites appear normally - why does that intervention only work for a short period?

I'm having to clear cache and cookies from the tools menu sometimes 2-3 times daily in order to make certain websites appear normally. The websites will have mostly script, which will be placed in columns, and very little in the way of graphics, maybe just a still picture of two. After I clear the cache and cookies, the sites go back to normal, but maybe after a few hours when I go back to the website it will re-appear as described above. The url below is the most commonly affected but it also happens on others like Yahoo news.

In order to uninstall a possibly unwanted extension, please do the following:
#From the Firefox window click the Firefox button at the top left and select ''Add-ons'', or, if the Firefox button is not shown, click the ''Tools'' menu and click ''Add-ons''.
#Once the Add-on Manager has opened in a new tab, click the ''Extensions'' button on the left side of the window.
#You should now see a list of your installed extensions on the right side together with buttons on the right side of each extension.
#To remove an extension from Firefox, simply click the ''Remove'' button on PDF Viewer (what is this?). You should see a message that informs you about the successful removal of the add-on.
#Note that some add-ons require a Firefox restart to be removed completely. To perform a Firefox restart after the add-on removal, click the ''Restart now'' link in the message.

IWeb page looking jumbled on the net and not my computer

I think this may be the first time I've published my web page to the net with 08 and its not translated some of the images. A couple new pictures i've added are only showing as a question mark and parts of the actual apple template art are also question marks on a page i created a while ago. Also, some fonts are large, etc. I've refreshed and republished several times with no change. something isn't translating or something. If someone could lend a bit of help, this would be much appreciated.

iCloud does not provide website hosting. You will need to find another website hosting service - there are many to choose from - and upload your site there. How you do this depends on what version of iWeb you have.
In order to upload your existing site in iWeb '09 and above:
Click on the name of the site in the sidebar: the publishing settings pane will open. Set 'Publish to' to 'FTP'. Enter the name of the site and a contact address (if desired).
In the 'FTP Server Settings' section you will need to know the server address (your hosting service can tell you that), and your username and password for that service. Your site will be published in a folder with its name at root level of the server, with an index.html file at root level (which will overwrite any index.html file which may be there already). The 'Directory/Path' field may need to include a path such as '/webspace/' or 'ht_docs/' - this is dependent on your hosting service and they should tell you this. If you want to publish within a folder you can add that to the path.
You can then click the 'Test connection' button so that iWeb can check that it can get access to your server space. You should enter the URL of the site in the 'URL' field so that rss feeds and internal links have the correct address.
To publish using an earlier version of iWeb:
From the File menu choose 'Publish to a folder'. You should create a folder somewhere convenient specifically for this and choose it when publishing to a folder: this folder should not contain anything else.
You now need an FTP program (FTP is the 'protocol' used for uploading) to upload the contents of the folder to your server.Cyberduck is free (donation requested): Transmit is $34 but I think better. You will need the server address (your hosting service can tell you that), and your username and password for that service. You can drag the contents of your folder to your webspace, or create a folder there and drag the contents to that if you prefer.
Some facilities that iWeb provided when hosted on MobileMe will not work on other servers: comments on weblogs and photos, password-protecting your site (some hosts may provide this), searching in the weblog, and a hits counter (again, some hosts can provide code for this). Slideshows in iWeb will work on other hosts than MobileMe (they use different code when FTPing which doesn't depend on scripts hosted on MobileMe as the MobileMe version does); however there is an issue with the 'buttons' which control the slideshow which are images hosted on me.com - these depend on images which used to be hosted on MobileMe.
