Publisher 11g and Printer Tray Control

Using 11g, is there a way to control printer tray selection in a RTF or even a PDF template? From my reading of older posts (2008) on this topic, this feature was not supported in earlier versions. I hoping the latest version is able to support tray selection, even it's hacked solution. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

1) In SPAD under the device types tab, enter your device type and hit display.
2) click on Print Controls and scroll down you will see TRY01, TRY02, TRY03 and TRYMN.
3) click on the edit icon and change the control character sequence that was provide for you. we

  • Bursting and printer trays

Hi, we are using BI Publisher Bursting (release 11.5.3) to split a range of invoices into smaller PDF files. Now the first page of each invoice should be printed from tray 1, the rest from tray 2 (for that reason we are first bursting the file).
Currently we are using the Delivery Request API to specify printer trays. However, the submit process takes about 10-12 seconds for each request.
If we have about 100 invoices in our file and print to two trays we submit 100x2 requests (sequentially) taking between 2000 and 2400 seconds (33-40 minutes!).
    This is way too slow.
We would prefer to specify the trays directly in the bursting control file. Is this possible?
A related issue may be that the printers used are postscript printers. We use the pdftops filter in the delivery manager to convert the PDF to PS before they are printed and we use CUPS printing. If we print directly using bursting, would it be possible to print the PDF to the PS CUPS printer??
Does anyone else have had these performance problems using the delivery manager?
PS: We pass a directory and a prefix for the range of files we want to print (for example MYFILES_*) (among other parameters ofcourse like the pdftops command and the output type to indicate whether it can be PDF or must be PS). I assume this is the way to use the delivery manager? Or is someone else doing this differently?

    Hi Aidan,
That was a great Idea! Many Thanks.
I costed me hours to try all the printer driver but it I was successful.
    Here my solution:
I changed my windows driver to the standard Win Server 2003 included HP Laserjet 4. I reseted the printer to factory settings. Without reseting it was not working.
Then I took the sap tray test program to identify which tray which number has. It's a standard test. Go to transaction SO10 and enter textname SAPSCRIPT-TRAYTEST. After that I changed the tray control number (try01,...) in the program.
    Now It's working.

  • PRINTER TRAY CONTROL/SELECTION WITH SAPSCRIPT USING ZTROYMIC DEVICE TYPE

We are printing checks using SAPscript in which we specify TRY02 for the overflow/invoice detail pages of  a check and TRY03 for the check itself, this is in order to use check stock only for actual checks and plain paper for the invoice detail pages.  As indicated above the device type to which we are printing is ZTROYMIC.  The device type was downloaded from note 94233, and is printing the MICR characters successfully however there was no Control Character Sequence provided for TRY03 in SPAD print controls.  The tray selection is not working correctly, I was given the following escape sequence, escape character & l 5 H, for TRY03 by TROY but not sure how to implement this in SPAD.  Should we pose this question directly to SAP?  Is tray selection supported for this device type?  If not how can we direct pages to correct tray otherwise?
    Your help is much appreciated,

  • SWINCF and printer trays

    Hi Guys,
We have a SAP Script Form that we normally print on a HP Laserjet Printer(device type HPLJ5) first page on printer tray2 all others on tray3 because in one tray is preprinted paper.
Now we have to print that form in vietnamese language therefore we have to take device type SWINCF with a SAPsprint Server.
The Problem is that the SWINCF is not recognizing the printer trays. It prints all from the second tray. We read all the sap note to this problem. If we turn the device type back to HPLJ5 tray selection working but of course the letters are wrong.
Our work around was to define in windows a Printer qeue (with the original HP driver) with the Option first page Tray3 all other pages from tray2. But that also not working out of SAP. Out of ms word, notes,... it's working. It looks like that SAP is overriding this setting.
I really hope somebody can help me.
    Thanks

  • Specifying number of copies and printer trays

    Hi,
can anyone tell me if there is a way, within CR, to specify the number of copies of a report to print and to direct the copies to specific printer trays i.e. copy one prints to printer tray one, copy two prints to printer tray 2.
    Thanks,
    Noel

You'd have to create an application using .NET or Java to do this.

  • Publisher 11g and Identity Asserter

How do you integrate publisher 11g with a custom weblogic identity asserter? From what I have been told so far, integration cannot be performed via the publisher administrative interfaces. It must be performed via configuration files on the server. There is no documentation on this subject yet. Has anyone performed the configuration that would be willing to share their experiences and configurations?
FYI, any attempt to utilize the identity asserter in the default publisher configuration will result in java errors in the server log and a 500 error in the browser.

Any security configuration must be under certified products so you can be confident they should work 100%. Otherwise
any issues you find under NOT certified products may not work and Oracle Support will not be able to help you.
As you describe the configuration you are trying to set is not certified and therefore the issues you find will probably
    never be resolved.

  • Is there any way to do print tray control in XMLP?

The requirement is for check printing. Here is the requirement
If printing a check, use the check stock tray. Else if printing the remittance advice, use the plain paper tray.
Is there any way I can implement this logic?
    Thnx

    Hi Brett
You do indeed need magnetic ink.
When we spoke to the niche vendors about controlling ink cartridges they told us they recommend customers use mag ink for the whole document. Mag ink is now not that much more expensive that regular ink. We do not currently generate PCL or PS natively to control ink cartridges, so we have followed suit and recommend you print the whole doc in mag ink.

  • BIP 11g and EBS R12

    Hi,
We have both BI Publisher 11g and are using EBS R12.
When I create a report in BI 11g, can I download the data model and the layout into files so that I can upload them in the R12 application to be used there?
What are the steps to do that (for the download part)?, knowing that for the loading in R12 we need a text file for the data template containing all the queries and a file for the layout (like rtf).
    thanks
    Ronny

Coming back to my own question, with findings so far.
It seems you can not do this.
The tools does not seem to have any functionality to downoad e.g. the data model into a flat file.
And it would probably not be compatible anyway. Since EBS is using a different version.
I know for a fact that f.i. using the Word built-in for BIP 11g to create the rft file results in errors when trying to run it in EBS R12.
Maybe someone has different opinions on it...

Isn't there a way for you to do this via a Package/Procedure versus having multiple queries?
    Per the BI Publisher guide,
Following are recommended guidelines for building data models:
Reduce the number of data sets or queries in your data model as much as possible. In general, the fewer data sets and queries you have, the faster your data model will run. While multiquery data models are often easier to understand, single-query data models tend to execute more quickly. It is important to understand that in parent-child queries, for every parent, the child query is executed.
You should only use multiquery data models in the following scenarios:
To perform functions that the query type, such as a SQL query, does not support directly.
To support complex views (for example, distributed queries or GROUP BY queries).
To simulate a view when you do not have or want to use a view.

  • Set printer tray and page size

    hi every body
i create two reports and i want to print these reports from different printer trays for excemple first report from (upper papaer tray) and second from (lower paper tray)i want all of this automaticaly user can not select tray at runtime print automaticaly goes to set tray by default
second problum is i create report on legal size when i run report in runtime the page setup shows letter size
how can i solve these problums
    thanks in advance
    allah hafiz

    Hi Faiz,
There are 2 places where you need to worry about paper size in your report:
    1. When you design the report, you need to make sure that your report is designed according to the paper size that you would finally print on. For this, you first set Reports properties "width" and "height", and then design your report such that everything fits in this size. This has nothing to do with what physical paper size is chosen by the printer at runtime. This merely ensures that the report will be formatted according to the report width and height that you have set.
If at runtime, your actual paper size in the printer is different (eg, you design according to legal, but you printer contains letter), you can use the property PAGESIZE in your command line to dynamically change the paper size in your report, and Reports will try to format your report accordingly. Again, this property PAGESIZE does not switch the physical paper in the printer. It only ensures that the report is formatted according to what you specify as width and height.
    2. You want to set the "physical" paper size that the report will finally print on. This is controlled by the printer. In reports, you can control which tray should be chosen, but you cannot control what physical paper size it should print on. This is controlled by the printer. Report will print on the paper size that is present in the relevant printer tray.

  • Printer Trays - How to control input trays

I have hit a wall and need your help. We have an application compiled for both a Lexmark Optra S 1650 and an HP4 Plus. The input tray to be used is dependent upon the printer selected. We are using JfDesign 5.5.
For the Lexmark, we need to select label stock from the tray physically labeled as "3". In the .ICS, this drawer is considered as tray "5" or "1005". Each attempt pulls from drawer one, compile option "Use printer tray numbers" unchecked. Attempts, ^job statement with: (1) -ati3; (2) -ati5 -atjoff; (3) compiling with non-portable tray #3; (4) compiling with non-portable tray #5 and use printer tray numbers checked.
    Ideas?

I had a problem that was somewhat similar. We are using two printers that are definately different. Our print jobs can go to either one, interchangeably. We needed to be able to specify within Output Designer the specific tray that a particular page was to draw from and have the correct paper be used no matter which printer was printing the job. To complicate matters, Output Designer did not have ICS files for our specific printer models.
One printer has 6 input sources and the other 5. Which specific input tray contains a particular type of paper is different. More importantly, the PCL emulation in both of them require a different number in the PCL tray selection command to get the printer to draw from a specific tray. For example, for one printer (it happens to be a Lexmark 3455) the tray selection command for "label stock" uses a 1 in the command sequence (that happens to be tray one due to the paper path being the best for labels); the other printer (a Xerox DP65) requires a 6 in the command sequence to be able to draw from the tray that is defined as containing label stock (again that happensto be tray 6 which has a staight paper path - so as to reduce the chance of the labels peeling off while going around sharp curves).
After doing considerable study of the ICS files, I had to do two things: (1) Determine the PCL tray selection command number for each tray for each printer, and (2) through trial & error determine what value to use within the ICS file to produce the description that I wanted to see in the Format/Page/InputTray selection drop down list.
Once I had all that information figured out, it was simply a matter of changing the "Trays", "InputTray", and "DefaultTray" parameters within the ICS file. The important part is to know the "format" of the InputTray parameter. The first number is what produces the description for the InputTray selection drop down list. The second number is what is used for the tray selection command.
To determine the values I wanted for the description, I just started changing the numbers and checking to see what each different value resulted in. The number for the tray selection command came from the printers themselves - the Lexmark will print the command numbers on its setup page while the Xerox provides it via the keyboard & CRT menus.
When compiling forms we do not check the "Use printer tray numbers" box. When printing we don't use any tray control parameter (-ati, -atj) on the ^job statement. A print job might consist of a colored separator page, a letterhead page and several plain white pages. There is nothing within the DAT file to control the input tray; that was all defined within Output Designer.
We did discover a couple of quirks that we were able to resolve. First, if I set up Output Designer so that the Xerox printer is the "default" (and it is the one most often used) the tray selection wouldn't work properly; the solution turned out to be to set up Output Designer to use the Lexmark as the "default"; we just use the -z and -asp parameters on the ^job statement to specify the desired printer and driver. The second one occurred when I decided to make the MDF files smaller by deselecting fonts that we don't use. When I did this the tray selection stopped working. Through trial & error the solution turned out to be to select a specific font for one of the printers even though we don't use that font.
To demonstrate what I'm talking about, here is the section of the ICS files that I'm referring to.

  • My problem is that after printing the first photo or picture, when I come to print a second, both the Colour Management and Epson Colour Controls are greyed out and showing No Colour Management

I have recently purchased a Mac computer (updated to Maverick) to go with my Epson Stylus Photo RX500 printer which has given excellent service with my old Windows computer. However, when trying to print pictures or photos via Photoshop Elements 11, the best results I can get are using the Colour Management and Epson Colour controls in the printing options box.
My problem is that after printing the first photo or picture, when I come to print a second, both the Colour Management and Epson Colour Controls are greyed out and showing No Colour Management, The only way I can reset the controls is to shut down the printer and computer and restart.
Could there may be a setting somewhere that I need to adjust please?  I have been in touch with Epson and they say that the Epson Colour controls are part of the Photoshop Elements software but a post on the Adobe forum brought no results and I am unable to contact Adobe.
    <Edited by Host>

Hello Garry. Thanks for the reply. I guess I should have used a different title from "How do I post a question?" That should come after trying to resolved the colour settings first. However, to answer your question, after experimenting with all the different settings in Photoshop Elements and Epson software, I now start with PSE11 Colour settings then click "no colour management" then after clicking Print, I choose "More Options/Colour Management/Colour Handling/Printer Manages Colour" then I choose "Page Setup/Layout/Colour Matching" which then shows Epson Colour Controls but I also choose "Layout/Colour Management" which then shows "Colour Controls/Mode" I then of course choose an Epson printer profile depending on the paper I am using. I get good results but as I said, the Colour Matching and Colour Controls are then greyed out. Hope that makes sense.
