Publisher error message

Every time I try to update my site I get a message saying "unknown publisher error" how do I remedy this. Do I need to recreate my entire site? or is there some way to fix the problem? Thanks

Actually, look carefully, and you will notice there is a space between the quotes!

  • Funny, got all the 'Publishing Error' messages but websites get published

    Hello all.
I have 3 .mac websites using iWeb.
Last night had trouble publishing, because some "navigation bar error", so I 'publish all', still failed. So every site every page on the left panel is in red.
Brought the Domain file to the office to try and publish, still failed. Mounted iDisk and trash everything, then tried 'publish all' again, still getting some error messages, then tried last try 'publish', reported a network error.
All the icons on the left panel is still in red
*But funnily, a check on my websites and all of them have been published!*
*So how am I going to "update" my iWeb/Domain file, because they are all in red, thinking they are not published yet?*
    Cheers

I am having the same problem, after weeks of everything being OK. Suddenly, in the last 24 hours I get a variety of messages, including the "Unknown Error" message and one called "Lock Error". Beats me what THAT is.
When I look at the url with Safari, it all seems to be fully updated, but iWeb certainly THINKS there has been an error, and leaves all the pages that have been altered in any way in the familiar red highlight color.
Trying to contact customer support. Could take a while, of course!
    Good luck!, Charlie

  • I keep getting a "Publish Error" message.

I am working on two sites with iWeb 08.
After I save my changes, and press the publish button on the iWeb 08 window, I end up getting the following message: "Publish Error" ... "There was an error updating .Mac."
    Anyone know what this is?
The sites seem to appear in Safari okay, but I'm not sure what this means.
    Thanks.

I figured it out. It's the publish button... if you use the menu item Publish All to .Mac, you may not get that message. It worked for me. I think three's some sort of bug in the regular Publish to .Mac feature.

  • Newbie needs help sorting out a publishing error message!

I'm just learning this stuff, and I got the following message when I tried to publish my website.
Can’t create the file “shapeimage1_link0.png.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges.
I previously published with no problems, after re-editing my sight, I ran into this problem. I'm rather incompetent at this stuff. Help much appreciated!

Two points that may help some one help me...
Does this part of the error message
    'shapeimage1_link0.png.' mean that some specific
image on my site is causing the problem. If I could
find and delete that would it help? How would I find
    which image has that tag?
    Hello Pete,
i have been having the same difficulties. I was able to publish last week, but not this week. I followed many of the same procedures that people have been recommending (thanks for all the helpful suggestions), but I still get the same error message. I have a feeling that it is related to an issue with the new OS update and/or with the new iWeb update. I even deleted the new blog entry and went back to iWeb 1.1.1 and I could not get it to publish (thus, I had the same exact conditions that I had last week when I could get it to publish except for now I have OS 10.4.8 instead of 10.4.7).
I am at a loss on what to try. i get the same exact error message as you do, no matter whether I publish to a folder or to .mac. I can see that almost everything gets published except it gets hung up at creating that 'shapeimage1_link0.png' file. I wish I could find a way to figure out how to have iWeb not create that file.
I also tried to create a whole new site with the old content and still got the same error message.
I hope that we can get this problem solved soon (I really think Apple needs to provide a fix). I am starting to look at other programs, just so I can update my existing page. Macromedia Contribute allows me to fix parts of my existing (on the server) website. They have a free 30 day demo. I may have to purchase the program if Apple doesn't fix the problem soon.
Good luck and I will let you know whether I find a fix.

  • Publish Error message

I tried to publish a new page of photos, and got an error message that said:
Publish Error - Can't create the file "captionimage_13.png." The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges.
I had just published a blog page successfully. I was able to publish the photo page to a folder in the desktop. I opened that and the only png files I could find were images that were in the template, eg. the Mac symbol, and the frames for the photos. Is "captionimage_13.png" referring specifically to one of my photos or one of my captions? If so, how can I isolate the error?
    Can someone help me, please.

    Hi Geraldine...
I think you may mean megabytes rather than kilobytes when you refer to your file sizes. I suppose it is possible that the limited free space on your iDisk is causing your troubles. I have heard of people who are using the trial .Mac accounts say this (they are only given 50mb instead of 1gb in the standard .Mac membership).
What you can try to test this theory is to delete your currently published site completely from your iDisk. Then try to publish. Here are the steps to do this...
    1. Mount your iDisk to your Desktop (type Apple-Shift-i) or use the Go menu>iDisk>My iDisk
    2. Double click on the iDisk icon to open it up
    3. Find the Web folder and double click to open it up. You should see two folders: Sites and RSS
    4. Open each of these two folders and delete all of the contents. This will clear out all traces of your published site.
Now you can try to publish again.
Keep in mind that doing this will take your existing site offline completely until you are able to publish it again.

  • IWeb: publishing error message

Out of the blue this afternoon when I tried to upload some changes to the web site I received the following error message
PUBLISHING ERROR: There was an error communicating with the FTP server. Try again later, or check with your service provider
To double check the connection to the FTP server I clicked on the "Test Connection" button on the 'FTP Server Settinngs' of the 'Site Publishing Settings' page and the result came back clear and ready to use.  I also ran a speed test on my broadband and that was fine too.
I cannot see any reason why I would get a publishing error.  Can anyone help me please.
    Thanks

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed to your iPhoto Library:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Error message when publishing to Flickr through Lightroom 3

When I update one of my collections in Lightroom and then directly  publish into my Flickr account, I often get the following error message:   Flickr API returned an error message (function upload, message  Filesize was zero).  Does anyone know why I am getting this or what I  need to do to resolve? Thanks in advance for your help

i get exactly the same thing. but i do have mobile me. i created a site and published it to one of my mobile me accounts. it worked fine. then i moved the file to another computer, made some changes to the text and republished. this time i got the 'publishing error' message described above.
then i tried opening a a new mobile me account, and published said site to this new account. same problem.
then i tried publishing to a folder. i also cannot publish to a folder, or more specifically, when i publish only some of the files seem to get published before that message appears.
strange thing is some of these files do appear in the folder and i was successfully able to upload this folder to the iDisk. and the site partially worked (to see it: www.designersdetails.com) but only those files that got published before the error message work. a good portion, including the picture galleries and the google maps page do not work.
can anyone shed any light on this? i've followed all of the suggestions i have found in the forums. nothing works.
    thx

  • The Dreaded message "Publishing Error"

Hi Kablin, Apnewbie, or anyone for that matter,
I recently purchased a MacBook and am new to Mac...
I have read some of the forum comments and have tried to resolve my "Publishing error" message for my first web test page with no avail.
Varkgirls comments and a few other threads suggested various alternatives:
I have carried out the deletion on the .plist file in the Domain - no problem...
I have run a repair on keychain (and not quite sure how Keychain truly works)... I did change access to allow for "all sites"; though when i entered ny password the 'Allow Once' Button was only highlighted instead of the 'Allow always' (why? perhaps you can answer this later).
First Help please - i created a folder "Web" in my iDisk and now it tells me I have no permission rights to rename or delete it. I can access iDisk from the net however there is no icon to delete the new "Web" folder on the internet-window. I am logged on as administrator.
I read Apnewbie notes and followed thorough with moving my test site to the folder called sites on iDisk on the net. Yes, I moved the folder and the index across...
Note the folder 'sites' does not have any other folder inside it as been suggested by the forum that it would contain folders 'web' and inside that 'iWeb'!!!
Second Help please - from safari I next tried the suggested URL http://web.mac.com/motiondreams/iWeb/eddierodgers/Welcome.html
and i get back an error message.
    obviously the URL is wrong..
I am using a Macbook and have a full .Mac account; OSX 10.4.8; iWeb 1.1.2
i am directly hooked up to my ADSL2 modem, and will also be checking with my service provider on the firewall, proxy, if any issues exitst.
I reside in Australia so its sure going to be a slow process to get me sorted here. However, I truly would appreciate your help (or anyone who is also reading this)... and thanking you.
MacBook 2 core Duo (Black)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Rodgered,
Sorry I missed your post yesterday.
For starters, how large is your site? Highlight your Domain file and Command+I to get the size. A lot of network timeout errors have been coming from your part of the world lately. This may be the problem if you are trying to publish a large site or one with a lot of blog entries.

  • Publishing Errors

Hi - I am using a 3.4Ghz Core i7 Imac with 24GB of RAm running Mavericks.  Internet connection is through a Time capsule and a Vigor modem.  iWeb is version 3.04.
I have a hosted website which I update regularly - the site is at www.mountain-rats.co.uk and has been run via iWeb since its creation.  Until yesterday, I have had no problems whatsoever with updating the site.
Yesterday was a big update which I know takes a while because my broadband is very slow - however, it always gets there!  After 6 or 8 hrs of uploading (light flashing on modem) iweb reported a publishing error and advised that I try again later.  iWeb was frozen and I had to restrat to get control of the programme.  Since then, I havenot been able to publish - constantly getting Publishing Error messages.
Funnily enough, all of the updates I wanted to do ARE on the website but iWeb still shows the files and pages as requiring updating - ie they are shown on Red.  It seems to me that iWeb has not updated itself to show the latest state of the website - all publishing has in fact been done but iWeb does not seem to show that.  Now, I can publish nothing although I can update the pages as per normal in iWeb.Is there any way of getting iWeb to reset or to acknowledge that the publishing has completed and start again?  Any help would be much appreciated - I can't update the site any more now till I get it sorted.
Could I dump iWeb and reinstall - would that help?
    Regards
    Peter

Oooooooooooooops!  Sorry about that.  Try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
3 - launch iWeb and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
Are you able to publish your site to a folder on the hard drive successfully and have iWeb finish up as it should?

  • Publish Error: Can't create the file

Suddenly, when publishing my site to a folder, I'm getting this Publish Error message:
Can’t create the file “[name of file]” The disk may be damaged or full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges.
It's a different file that iWeb can't publish each time I try publishing. I did a search on this topic and saw this post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10872574&#10872574
Tried the restarting iWeb solution, but have not yet tried restarting computer. If restarting is the only solution, that's going to be mighty inconvenient. Anyone have any other ideas or know why this is happening?
This never happened before. Always able to publish just fine.

    Katherine:
    Try the following:
    Try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
    3 - reboot.
4 - launch iWeb and see if you can not publish successfully to a folder.
    If that doesn't help continue:
5 - move the domain file from your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
6 - launch iWeb, create a new test site and save.
7 - go to the your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
8 - move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
9 - launch iWeb and try again.

  • "Publish Error: Publish failed due to network error. Check your internet co

I am using the very latest version of iWeb. I have had it for a week.
First let me tell you the message that I got and then what I was doing prior to getting the message:
It said: "Publish Error. Publish failed due to a network error. Check your internet connections and try again."
I did check my internet connections and I called mt cable modem ISP. He put me through some tests and ascertained that the problem was not with the cable connection. I can connect to the web (of course) and I can send and receive email. The fellow at the ISP (Road Runner) told me that the uploading goes just fine but that the confirmation end of it is bad.
I have made 9 pages for my website. I clicked the button to publish the 10th page and got the message at the top of this post.
Then I called Apple Care and took advantage of the 90-day help warranty. The gal there had me try to publish to my private folder. That worked! I was able to publish to the folder and that message at the top of this post did not appear. It said that the page was published and did I want to visit it.
I ended up deleting the page about my friend Lerma, since everything was going fine until I did that page. AS I recall, there was a mixup with the pages and I thought I had fixed it.
Then I worked a little more on my husband's Memorial Site and tried to publish and got the same bad message as above, meaning that it wasn't just the page about Lerma but any page I might be doing since doing her page.
NOW THIS IS THE ODD PART:
I went to the website on Safari browser with the intention of checking out the other earlier pages, only to discover (happily) that my husband's memorial page (the beginning of it) WAS THERE even though I got that message saying that there had been a network error. Lerma's page, however, was NOT there.
I am between happy knowing that a page can show up on the website even though I get a message saying that it did not, but anxious knowing that if I am getting Publish Error messages, something is screwy with the program.
I will continue to try to publish to the Internet, but meanwhile I welcome any observations and happy accounts of how they got the same message but everything ended up fine after a while.
Meanwhile I am going to be working on my pages even though right now I am getting those messages saying that they could not publish due to network error.
    I need a break.
    — Lorna in Southern California

    Hi Lorna!
Sorry to hear that you're getting the dreaded
"Publish Error" message from iWeb. Lots of people
have reported getting this type of error...and I
don't think it ever really has much to do with the
network...at least nothing that can be fixed. The
fact that you have been publishing just fine up until
now is a good thing. Some people have NEVER been
able to publish to the web. Hopefully this problem
will clear itself up. Maybe it's just sunspots or
something. Probably someone thinks you need a break,
    too.
Is this the kind of thing that would warrant me going back to the Apple Store to get an exchange???
