Publisher wanting to distribute art books on iPad...w/out Lulu, Smashwords

We are a small, independent publisher of high-quality photo books that would be great for the iPad. Cannot find how to distribute on the iPad and get titles in iBookstore without going thru a third-party like Lulu or Smashwords. How does a legit publisher get direct distribution with Apple?
Thank you

At this time you can not. You must go through one of the aggregators. Go to:
https://itunesconnect.apple.com/WebObjects/iTunesConnect.woa/wa/apply
select "Book" and click Continue. In the next window click "Apple-Approved Aggregator" and Continue.
The 8 approved aggregators are listed as links in the next window.

Thank you for your reply Domingo.  Your suggestion worked as far as sending me a link to buy the book at iTunes.  But it did not allow me to download the book from my wife's account.  I did finally get an answer from Apple.  It took an entire day of emailing back and forth and the final answer was relatively easy once Apple finally decided to give up the solution.  Basically, you have to open ibooks and sign out.  Then you have to sign into ibooks using the book purchaser's Apple ID and password.  Then you can download the book onto your device.  Not too bad, huh?  It only took a whole day of Apple people sending me wrong instructions before they figured it out.  Geez.  What a disappointing experience.

  • Hello , I want to ask some question about ipads \  How powerful is the iPad?  How useful is it for reading books, newspaper or magazines or for surfing the web? Can you identify any shortcomings of the device?   please help me :(

    Hello ,
I want to ask some question about ipads \
    How powerful is the iPad?
How useful is it for reading books, newspaper or magazines or for surfing the web?
Can you identify any shortcomings of the device?
    please help me

it's less powerful than your average computer. THink of it like a netbook but with a better processor.
It'll do fine for surfing (although if you browse a lot of flash based sites you will need to get a third party browser since safari doesn't accommodate it)
You may do OK on reading books, papers or magazines, especially if they have apps, but the ipad's screen is backlit, so it doesn't work well outdoors and you may need to fiddle with the brightness so that you don't get eye strain (it's just like doing too much reading from a computer screen)
I would say the biggest short comings are data transfer. Apple's preferred work flow is that everything is done via iTunes or the internet....well people dont' always have 100% reliable always on internet access so you can find yourself in a situation where you can't get things on/off the iPad.
By and large, it's a good device for day to day stuff, but is not a computer replacement.

  • I have many epub books in my pc & I want to sync them to my ipad. Can I do so?

I have many epub books in my pc & I want to sync them to my ipad. Can I do so?

As long as they don't have some sort of digital rights management that ties them to another system/app then yes.
You can add them to the Books section of your iTunes library either via File > Add File To Library (or Add Folder To Library), or by dragging and dropping them onto iTunes. If Books doesn't appear as one of your libraries on the left-hand side of your iTunes then you can add it by ticking it on the General tab in Edit > Preferences. You can then sync (via the device's Books tab) or drag them across to your iPad, in a similar way to how you sync other content.

  • Want books on iPad, not on iPhone.

I've recently bought two books on my iphone ready to read on my iPad as the iPhone screen is too small. Got home and tried to sync the books but because I've logged into someone else's Apple ID recently, I can't have the books on my iPad for another 45 days. I don't actually want the books on my ipgone, I just want them on my iPad but out of convenience at the time, I bought them on my iphone. Is there no way I can get them on my iPad before the 45 days are up without having to purchase again?

Where has somebody else logged into their account and redownloaded their purchases, on your computer's iTunes or your iPad ?
If your computer then you should be able to redownload the ibooks directly on your iPad (as long as they're still in the store) via the Purchased tab in the iBookstore in the iBooks app.
If your iPad then connecting your phone to your computer's iTunes and doing File > Devices > Transfer Purchases should copy the books to your computer's iTunes library - does syncing them to the iPad not work ?

I can't recommend anything less than 32 GB.    Once you have it, you will find other uses for the iPad and fill up the storage very easily.
If you are trying to keep cost low, I suggest the iPad mini. (I can't recommend the iPad Air - lack of quality control)
Wifi only is fine, I hardly ever use anything else.
What quality control issue are you referring to with iPad Air?  I know lot's of people, myself included who have the Air and there is nothing wrong with them.

  • I have a Kindle and the new iPad 3.  I downloaded one of my Kindle books to my iPad.  Now I want to remove the book from the iPad.  When I highlight the book, the "device" key that I think I am supposed to use disappears.  Please help.

I have a Kindle and the new iPad 3.  I downloaded one of my Kindle books to my iPad.  Now I want to remove the book from my iPad.  When I highlight the book, the "device" button (which I think I am supposed to use) disappears.  How do I get the select the book and get it off the iPad and back to my Kindle?  Thanks for your help.

To remove the book simply touch and hold the cover on the main page.  A little pop up will ask, remove?  Say yes.  The book content will de deleted.   The cover will remain on your main page with a little down arrow so that you can redownload it if you wan in the cloud view.  In the device view, it simply disappears.
Note at the bottom of the page are a couple of switches, labeled cloun and device.  The device switch shows you books on your device.  The cloud page shows your whole catalog, and the down arrow allows you to bring down anything in your catalog to the device.

I assume that iBooks is limited in the same way that iTunes and the App store are.  That is, you can only change the AppleID associated with a device once every 90 days.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4627
So if you log out of the iBook store with her AppleID, and use yours, you will have to wait 90 days before she can use her AppleID with that same device again.

  • I want to create an eBook for iPad , Mac and "iPhone".

While I was beginning with creating an eBook with iBookAuthor, I didn't know that the target group iPhone user is missed.
I want to create and publish an eBook, which is intended for iPad, Mac and iPhone users.
Does somebody know, which software would be the best?

Of course iTunes Producer is supposed to accept .epub files.  If yours are not working, I suggest you try to contact Apple via the means indicated at the bottom of the FAQ

  • HT5071 It is possible for me to distribute my book as a PDF/word and on the Ibooks app?

    Hello,
So I am currently writing a book, and I am curious to know if it is possible to distribute my book as a PDF/word and on the Ibooks app store. I intend on making the book a free download.

It's your content - you can distribute as you like, but as noted, only via the store when in .ibooks format. As a PDF, you can do whatever you want with it.

You won't be able to open it on your computer, ibooks can currently only be read in the iBooks app on an iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. How were you trying to get it to your phone, syncing it by selecting it on the iPhone's Books tab when connected to your computer's iTunes, or by dragging-and-dropping it from the Books part of your iTunes library over and onto the iPhone 'device' ?  Another option is to try re-downloading it directly in the iBooks app on your iPhone via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in it (re-downloading).

  • HT204150 i have deleted all contacts in icloud but still have them on my iphone (which is backed up as well to iTunes) how can i restore the iphone data to the iCloud so it will resend it to my mac book and iPad?

i have deleted all contacts in icloud but still have them on my iphone (which is backed up as well to iTunes) how can i restore the iphone data to the iCloud so it will resend it to my mac book and iPad? I have switched my iphone to airplane mode so it is not connected to the internet and so icloud can not wipe it at the moment.
    thanks roy

There's a menu choice (I think under "Files") that lets you sync purchased items on a device back to itunes.  Look for that.
iCloud does not store music.  If you want to do that you'd have to subscribe to itunes Match, but to get music to the match servers, you need the music in the itunes library on your computer.

  • How to transfer movies from mac book to ipad, how to transfer movies from mac book to iPad, how to transfer movies from mac book to iPad

I have downloaded a tv series onto my mac book and want to transfer it to my Ipad. I have used the USB cable to try and transfer and sync but it wont work
    can anyone help
    Thank you

In iTunes select your iPad from the left-hand pane under 'Devices', then select the appropriate tab from the top. If it's a movie then select 'Films', if it's a TV series then select 'TV Programmes'.  You can check which is the correct one to use by selecting the category from the top of the left-hand pane and seeing which one the item you want to synchronise is in.  Then ensure that 'Sync Films/TV Programmes' is checked.  Finally click the 'Sync' button in the bottom right of iTunes.
