Publishing 2 separate websites

I am sorry, I have searched and searched and still have not found the answer I am looking for.
I am trying to publish 2 separate websites using iweb. The first website I have made was for a friend, using their own personal domain. When I go into my MobileMe account his site is listed as my own personal domain.
I would like to publish a second website just using my MobileMe domain and don't know how to do that. Everytime I click on publish to MobileMe, only the first account publishes (I think) and can be viewed.
How do I publish that second website to the generic url that MobileMe uses?

You can separate before publishing. Just be sure to make a backup copy of the original Domain file and move it to another located before starting the separation workflow. Using iWebsites duplicate the domain file and rename the copy for one of the sites. Open the duplicate with iWeb thru iWebSites and delete the site you don't want in that file. Do the same with the other domain file, i.e. rename it for the site it represents, open with iWeb and delete the site that doesn't belong.. As you can see in the screenshots that I posted you can have multiple sites, all named in iWeb with a name that indicates what the site is about but not necessarily the same name as the published site.
You will end up with two domain files in that iWeb folder: Site 1 and Site 2. When opening a site to work on always go thru iWebSites. Just easier and safer, IMO, that way.
Once you get the sites separated and published keep current backup copies of those domain files. I've created an Automator backup workflow, inspired by Varkgirl's original efforts, that will copy the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and the domain files in it to the Desktop replacing any previous copy there. You can open the workflow in Automator, as described in the Read Me file, and change the destination of the backup. After each edit run the workflow to make sure your backup is current.

After you have finished your book in iBooks Author, you export to the .ibooks or .pdf format and then upload the file to your server.  Exactly how to do that is something you need to find out from the people who run your server, it has nothing to do with iBooks Author or Apple.  If in the .ibooks format, your book would have to be free.

I'm looking for options for students to use in class. Since CC offers 5 free sites, I would like to know what would be the easiest way for beginners to upload a site that could be accessed by the instructor and other class members. Would that be Behance?

  • How do I publish a single website of three?

    Hi everyone,
I have version 1.1.2 of iWeb, and am having a problem.
I originally created a single website and published it in two places (.mac and godaddy.com). Since the websites were identical, there were no problems and both sites accurately reflected the material created in iWeb.
Recently it became necessary to modify one website, but not the other. Also it became clear that an additional website was needed.
All three of these websites (all "in place" now) are "nearly" identical, but the second website has an additional "download" button that I don't want the other two websites to have.
Now my "Site Organizer" shows, "Site 1, Site 2 and Site 3" with the second line for each site showing the title of the main page (which is the same title for all three), followed by a third line that consists of the single word, "Reviews" . . . also the same for all three.
When I load the #2 site to the one being hosted by godaddy.com, it doesn't display! After a call to tech support, I had to go into their html editor to edit the index.html file that resides on the "root directory" of the FTP server, and change a number. This change is necessary every time I upload a modified version of the website! I want to avoid the extra tweaking.
In order to upload the site to the FTP server, I have to publish to a folder, where the "folder" is the "primary" folder of my home folder (the FTP server won't read subdirectories). The problem is that all the sites in my iWeb program end up together in the same place.
I can still choose "Site 2" to upload, and this is done correctly. But the index.html file seems to be the same file for ALL the sites (there is only one of these), and is not correct for site 2 . . . which is why the index file must be modified before the site 2 website will display!
Is there a way to "publish to a folder" and get only the site I want to be published, along with the appropriate index file . . . and NOT the other two websites that have been created? I would like to publish THOSE other two sites to a DIFFERENT folder, without ALL the sites) Apparently, the index.html file (created during the "publish to a folder" process) is the same for all the websites. Maybe this will be different if I can publish only ONE site at a time to a specific and separate folder.
This problem can be worked around, it seems. But I find the process cumbersome, and would certainly appreciate finding out about an easier way! I really cannot afford a new computer with an intel processor, right now (for an updated version of iWeb), so I am stuck with a five year old computer and a PowerPC G5 processor.

  • Publishing 2 different websites w/ iWeb 1.1.2

I'm working with iWeb 1.1.2. Is it possible 2 publish 2 different sites using this App.?
I have one website up and running no problem (an interior design site) however, after I created a 2nd site, registered the domain name, when I log onto it, it bounces me to the Interior Design site and not the one I just created.
I'm using Netfirms to host the sites and they have told me it's an Apple problem.
Is this true? And any suggestions of where I go from here.
    Thanks so much in advance,
    Braden

If they are separated into separate domain files there will be two items in iWebSites window. if there are just one you can duplicate the one domain file, rename it for one of the sites, open it and delete the site you don't want in that domain file. Then duplicate the original domain file that contains both sites, rename the duplicate for the other site, open in iWeb, delete the unwanted site and save. Then use iWebSites to open and switch sites.
This screenshot shows you what a domain file with one and more than one site in it looks like in iWebSites.
Or go to your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and drag the two domain files that are named for the sites into the Dock. Then you can just click on the site file in the Dock you want to open and work on.

  • If I publish a public website to my MobileMe account will my other content

be public as well? I plan to create a website for a small "business" that I've started and would like to save web hosting expenses by using my MobileMe account, but I'm wondering if those visiting my website will then have access to the rest of my content on MobileMe? Even with password protecting photo galleries, etc. I would prefer that none of my content, even thumbnails, be visible to those visiting my website. Could I solve this by buying a domain name and using that?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Visitors to your business site would have to know the URL of your personal site to be able to access it. If you password protect the personal site they couldn't get in event if they did know the URL.
Are you going to purchase a domain name for your business site and use it? If so there are some things to know:
1 - if you use the CNAME method of domain name forwarding the business site will need to the the top site in iWeb.
So when you start building the site move it to the top of the left hand pane in iWeb.
If you plan on having more than one site with a domain name here is some info you should know:
Multiple Sites with Domain Name(s) in a Single MobileMe Account
Here's how to have multiple sites in a single MMe account with one or more sites having a domain name.
    A. All sites are in the same Domain.sites2 files
1 - only one site can use the CNAME method of domain name forwarding and it must the top site in the left hand pane of iWeb.
2 - the other sites must use URL domain name forwarding which directs the domain name to the site's full MMe URL, http://web.me.com/MMeUsername/SiteName, or, if there is no domain name, just MobileMe's full URL.
    B. Each site is in its own Domain.sites2 file.
Again, only one site can use CNAME forwarding. This presents a problem since CNAME forwarding directs the domain name to the basic MMe account URL: http://web.me.com/MMe_Username/ which uses an index.html file in the root folder of the account, iDisk/Web/Sites. Each time a new site is published or an existing site uses the File->Publish Entire Site a new index.html file is created in that root directory, iDisk/Web/Sites folder, directing the browser to that particular site. This file is what the CNAME method uses to find the site it represents.
Therefore some steps must be taken to assure that the index.html file in the MMe Accounts root directory always points to the correct site. This can be accomplished is three ways.
1 - don't use the CNAME method. Just use URL forwarding . This, IMO, is the simplest method as it doesn't requre any additional effort on the user once the domain name has been set up.
2 - use the following method suggested by Wyodor in this topic: Is it possible to have multiple sites when using ur Domain name?
    In iWeb domainfile 1:
Create a dummy site : _dummy
    with a blank page.
Create your working site : Whatever
    Add pages
Publish both Sites to the same same location on the same server.
Your _dummy site is now the default Site.
    Check.
    In iWeb domainfile 2:
    Create/Use your CurrentSite.
Move a page to the top of the Site and back. Publish the Site.
iWeb will create a new index.html file in the root of the server and from now on CurrentSite is the default site.
    Check.
From now on, never move your Whatever Site to the top of the list in the iWeb sidebar and never change the page in the _dummy site.
Simply do not touch your _dummy ever again. And never forget that.
3 - use Ethmoid's suggested method in Using two sites - setting one up with separate domain? or republishing the entire site that uses CNAME forwarding. Just making a minor change and publishing the site changes does not create a new index.html file.
The entire site must be republsihing in order to get that new site.
Or keep a copy of the CNAME site's index.html file on your Mac and replace it manually in the iDisk/Web/Sites fodler when necessary.
NOTE: the CNAME method provides a shorter URL: http://www.DomainName.com/Site_Name/PageName. CNAME does not have masking.
The URL forwarding displays the full MMe URL:
    http://web.me.com/MMeUsername/Domain_Name/PageName.
With domain name masking that will be shortened to:
http://www.Domain_Name.com for every page of your site.
However, with masking visitors will only be able to bookmark and enter at the first page of the site. If a page is refreshed the visitor is taken back to the first page. Also search engines will only be able to index the first page of the site.

  • PDF Portfolio published as a website

I published my PDF Portfolio as a website instead of linking to the actual PDF. It no longer has the search box in the upper right-hand corner like the PDF version does. How do you search the entire portfolio, or even a section, when it is an html?

Having the web pages/files (the "website") you upload it a web server; in time Google, Bing and others will crawl the "pages" and then you can use the web search engine.
Or install a web search engine on the local machine.
Or use the OS's search engine to index and thus be able to search the files.
Load faster? Ok (although I've some reservations on that).
Print just a "section"? That can be done from the Portfolio (the Print dialog for Reader / Acrobat is very versatile - play with it...).
    Be well...

I have created a website: musictherapybedfordshire.co.uk in iWeb and published via Filezilla.  Once published a version of my menu bar has been added vertically down the left hand side of every page pushing all the main text down the page.  This is in addition to the menu bar across the top of the page as I want it.  How can I go about correcting this as I don't see it like this with the mistakes in iWeb?

    Hi michael
Why not create a Dir in your Old site Called "test"
Publish your Iweb Site to "test" dir
Then while you are testing you can Navigate to
    www.yoursite.com/test/Iwebsite
to see if everything works, and when you are happy, Backup up then delete old site, then publish New Iweb site cleanly to your web server.

  • Site Studio Publishing to remote websites in 11g

I'm checking to see if anyone has had success with publishing to an external site using site studio publisher. the UI seems to only allow publishing to a local file store. we are trying to publish to an external vanilla web server that does not have any knowledge of ucm/ecm.
The SSP doc states this in section 1.1:
"At some point, you may find that you would like to create a static copy of
a Web site and transfer it from an Oracle Content Server environment to a
pure web server environment that is not running an Oracle Content Server
    instance."
we can work around by setting up some alternate push from the local file system to the external website but was wondering if anyone has been able to make this work natively in 11g. any response is appreciated.
    thanks,
    Robert

You only need to install the Subscription Client on the target server, and it will unzip the HTML to the correct places.

  • Can i publish an iWeb website to any host?

I want to use iWeb to build a website but i don't use mobile me.
I have a domain name with 1&1 and I have all the relevant ftp information but i can't see how you can publish a site made in iWeb unless it's through mobile me.
So does anyone know how I can get a site i've just made onto the internet without using mobile me? my web hosters are 1and1.
    many thanks
    Joe

    Joe:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Yes you can publish an iWeb site to any host server. It involves publishing to a folder on the Desktop (or anywhere you want it to reside on the HD) and then uploading the contents of that folder, a site folder and an index.html file, to your server using an ftp client like the free Cyberduck.
Enter the ftp information into Cyberduck and upload.

  • Why do many Typekit fonts look bad on publish of Muse website?

I have published more than a dozen websites with Adobe Muse and Typekit fonts. I have really been drawn to Typekit and the beautifull fonts it brings into Muse. When I am in design mode on a Muse site the fonts look great. My problem is when I preview the site withing Adobe Muse or publish it online the fonts rasterize terribly. I understand that certain fonts display better smaller or bigger but even when I apply this knowledge in my design it still often shows a lack of clarity in fonts. Is there a way to help these fonts appear better? Perhaps I am missing something here but what I don't know.

Every OS, OS version and browser renders live text differently. This is true of fonts served from Typekit as well as fonts installed in the local system. I expect the variation you're seeing is the differences between the AIR rendering in the Design view, the Webkit rendering in Muse Preview and the browser+OS+OS version rendering for whatever environment you're using.
There's a 7 part blog post on typekit.com that explains all the interactions and variations across OSes, OS versions and browsers.

  • IWeb won't publish changes to website without adding "/SiteName"

I'm trying to publish changes to my website with a URL that is an established domain name.
When I click "Publish Site", iWeb adds "/SiteName" to the URL and the changes are
published to "URL/SiteName". But when I search for my site on Google (it pops up
readily as the website has been accessed many many times), the OLD, UNCHANGED
website with the old URL comes up. To get the revised website, users would have
to specifically use the CHANGED URL, "URL/SiteName."
Every time I try to remove "Site Name" from the blank for Site name, iWeb puts
"SiteName" back in. How do I keep the Site name slot blank so that iWeb will
publish my changes to the old familiar URL that can be found on Google?
As a Server engineer commented to me, "There has been a folder called [SiteName] uploaded
recently to the root [URL] of your account. This make me suspect that iWeb is set to publish in the
wrong directory. Make sure it is publishing to the public_html directory."
I put "public_html" into Directory/Path. Still no changes to my website at URL; changes have
    been published only to "URL/SiteName".
    Any help available?

That is the way that iWeb works and it is normal practice to get the url with the Sitename in it.  As you have found, if you try to leave the sitename blank, iWeb will put it back in.
The server engineer that you spoke to is correct that your site folder has been uploaded to your 'public_html" folder on your server.
If you want your url without the sitename included, then you need to upload the contents only from your site folder and NOT the whole folder itself and then your url will be http://www.domain.com without the http://www.domain.com/sitename/page name.html.
You can achieve this by publishing your site to a local folder from iWeb and then you need to download an ftp programme such as Cyberduck or Yummy ftp.  You then use either of these 2 to upload only the contents of your site folder to your 'public_html' folder on your server and if you just upload the contents and NOT the whole folder itself, then your url will be http://www.domain.com.
Sometimes putting 'public_html' into the Directory/Path will not work and you'll need to strart from scratch, so you'll need an ftp programme so that you can link up to your server and you can see exactly what is in your public_html folder on your server and delete the site folder and start again, by then uploading just the contents of your site folder rather than the whole folder itself.
Ultimately, what you need to do is upload the contents and the contents only of your site folder and NOT the whole folder itself to get your url back to http://www.domain.com without the sitename.

  • Publishing (updating) one website publishes ALL my sites.

I have 5 websites through iWeb. If I add something to one of them, maybe a single picture, and I want to publish the change, I hit "Publish", but it ends up re-publishing all my sites, I can tell because it says what it is publishing and it goes through all my sites. A small update can take minutes to publish because of this.
Also, then when I "announce" web-site through email, ALL my sites are listed. I can delete the others from the email message, but still...
Is there some way that I can make these two annoying things go away?

If you have multiple websites that are completely independent from each other and publish to the same .Mac account and use iLife '06 you might have a look at iWebSites

If you publish to folder have a look at the following page instead
