Publishing a calendar to MobileMe creates a dead link

I published a an iCal calendar. iCal presented me with a dialog box telling me I could view my calendar or send an email. So I chose view and it produced a page with this message: We're sorry but we cannot find the iCal you've requested. It's possible that it has been deleted or renamed.
Is this a common problem?
Thanks,
Rob

I checked the iCal setup/preferences and there didn't seem to be much to doublecheck.
The help file was equally unhelpful (make sure you're connected to the Internet -- thanks!).
Checking the MobileMe preferences (one of the suggestions) was also unenlightening.
Dunno. It's not like I was teeming with ideas to being with but I'm out -- other than blame the man.

  • Publishing iCal calendar to MobileMe

I would like to share my iCal calendar with my wife only and no one else. If I publish my calendar to MobileMe, does it go to the Public portion of MobileMe or does it go to my private portion where I can password protect it to limit access?

    Ed,
According to; Publishing a password-protected iCal calendar to iDisk:
"Using the MobileMe option in iCal to publish a calendar does not require a name and password for users to access your calendar. However, you can also publish private calendars to your iDisk. These calendars require you to type your iDisk name and password and use WebDav authentication."
"Tip: Keep in mind that the name and password used to subscribe to this calendar is your MobileMe account and password. Do not give out this account and password to other users unless you intend to give the user access to your entire MobileMe account."

  • Sharing/publishing a calendar for webview

I created a calendar on my home computer for my kids sporting events to share with our family to view only on the web. The issue I'm having or I guess better stated, is the iCal location where you created the shared calendar the ONLY location that can update that calendar on the web?
    Examples:
    * I added the event "yellow" on my iMac's iCal and it updated to the web almost immediately after I refreshed the page.
    * With iMac's iCal closed, I added the event "purple" from my iPhone and it updated to everywhere (other iPhone & me.com) except the web UNTIL I opened the iMac's iCal and then it updated to the web.
So what I'm basically asking is this....will a web viewed calendar ever be able to be updated from any of the mobileme enabled devices or will it only be able to be updated from the original iCal it was created in?

    Rick,
...all of the grouped calendars should show up under the one calendar. They don't! It was kind of a crap shoot each time I tried it.
As long as they are user generated calendars, they should! Are they all user generated? Do they have any special formatting characters/numbers/hyphens in the name? Try simplifying the titles to eliminate this possibility.
About the best solution I could come up with was to publish each one individually, which is annoying...
I agree, but unless Apple changes the way calendars are displayed on the web I do not know of a way to make that happen.
Incidentally, is there a way to publish a calendar from mobileme?
In essence, you are already using MobileMe to publish the calendar, and AFAIK is no way to publish through the MobileMe Web application. Publishing has to be initiated from the client based iCal.
I would advise that you let Apple know about your needs/desires through: Apple - iCal - Feedback.

  • Publishing a calendar group

Hello everyone. I'm having some issues with publishing and sharing a calendar. I've created a group with seven calendars. Now when I try to publish the group, anyone that subscribes only gets one of the calendars in the group and not all of the calendars. Is this normal?

  • Publish calendar to mobileme no longer works

I've been publishing a calendar in iCal to mobileme for several years. After upgrading to Snow Leopard, I noticed that the publishing was not working (the icon next to the calendar in iCal indicated an error). So I unpublished and republished. I was told it was successful and give me that window with a button to view the published calendar. When I do that, Safari goes to the site but prints a message, telling me "We're sorry but we cannot find the iCal you've requested. It's possible that it has been deleted or renamed."
I cut and paste the address into Safari - the URL that I was provided after a successful publish, and again got the same error. I've unpublished several times and republished, always successfully - so I was informed when the calendar was sent. But I always get the same error reported.
I've gone to my mobileme via browser to check my iDisk and other features - they all work. My iCal is even correct when viewed. It's just the published calendar that can't be accessed.
Anyone know what's going on or have a suggestion.
    Thanks.
Well, I tried another search and have found a thread where users indicate the same problem. This seems to be a mobileme problem that I guess I'll have to wait until it is fixed.

Yep, same problem. Won't show up via browser and the embedded calendar won't display in iWeb. I've changed the calendar name, exported and imported (removing unsafe alarms), shortened the calendar name as to exclude any numerical or punctuation including spaces and nada. Next step is to friggin create a new calendar from scratch and re-enter all the dates/info...but I'd still like to know what the heck is going on.
Anybody have any other success besides creating a new calendar?
PS - Confirmed that establishing a new calendar clears up the problem. The fun of data entry for all those appointments...

I am looking to publish a web site I created in iWeb to another hosting provider.  I have never published this site to MobileMe nor do I have a MobileMe account.  Can someone please help me?

Hi Larry, no experience with iWeb, (which is ending soon), but what kind of files & folders does it make locally?
You need a Wb Hosting service & an ftp client, if you need more info reply with that & what kind of files/folders it made.

  • Sharing or Publishing Multiple Calendars

I keep my calendar events in about 20 different iCal calendars so I can use color-coding and different views for different categories of events. This works fine between iCal and MobileMe, and to my iPhone and iPad. The problem comes when I want to share the calendar. I would like a couple of relatives to be able to see on the web exactly the view I see in iCal or MobileMe. As far as I can tell, I have to share each of the twenty calendars individually, and they have to be viewed with different URLs.
Is there an answer to this? As many have noted, it used to be possible and worked quite well.
I have a google account, but as far as I can tell Google calendar is no help.
I understand that if I were to consolidate all my events into one calendar this would all be easier, but I can't find any easy way to merge the events from my separate calendars into one calendar, even if I wanted to.
I would greatly appreciate any advice on a) finding a way to share a single view of all of my calendars, or b) merging the events from many separate calendars into a single calendar.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    langert3,
You would have to upgrade to Tiger to publish several calendars as a group.
Publishing calendars to .Mac: If you're using iCal 2.0 or later, you can create Calendar groups and publish them to .Mac. If you publish a Calendar group, all the events and To Do information from the calendars in the group is merged and published in one calendar. You can also choose to publish individual calendars in the group.Unfortunately that feature is not available in iCal 1.5.5.

  • Publishing desktop calendar to Mobile Me : error message

Hi, I have been trying to publish a calendar created by ICal which is in my "On my Mac" folder and not in " XXXX Mac"to my Mobile Me account. These are all the messages I am getting, but I can't figure out what the problem is.
FYI, I am using OS X 10.6.8, and ICal version 4.0.4. I have also NOT yet moved from Mobile Me to Cloud (could this be the problem??).
Here are the steps I have taken :
in ICal, selected calendar I want  >> Publish
    >>>> Publish Calendar as "xxxxx"
    >>>> Publish on : MOBILE ME..... OK
Then I get this error message :
** Your MobileMe account configuration is not correct"... Your MobileMe subscription information is not correct.... To configure your subscription, use MobileMe preferences ***
    In MobileMe preferences :
Account : access ok (ID ok, password ok)
Sync : Automatic (OK).... If I select "sync" now my computer correctly syncs with MobileMe.
    Idisk : all OK
Back to my mac : OFF
    Back to ICal :
Preferences >>> Accounts .... the "accounts" page is empty, so i select *+* to create a new CalDAV account
Account type : MobileMe / Automatic (I have tried both options, I get the same error message : see below)
    Email & password : OK
Message : Searching for calendar accounts for the email address you provided...
    >>> Configuring CalDAV account
    >>> Error Message : "the account information was not found. The server has not specified a calendar home for the account at "/--https://cal.me.com/".
I keep selecting the the option "Create" and keep getting the same error message.
*** CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT THIS LAST ERROR MESSAGE MEANS, AND HOW I CAN RESOLVE IT?
FIY, The regular sync between my computer and MobileMe works fine ; the problem I am having is publishing this "external" calendar.
Thank you very much for your help,

    Re MobileMe
I was going to uninstall but a little wary, on your advice I took the plunge and hey presto it worked.
Many many thanks b noir it was driving me crazy.

  • Publishing iCal Calendars

I have MobileMe, using to sync my iMac, MacBook and iPhone. If I didn't want to publish certain of my calendar groups i could just eliminate the on my mac calendars. But I want to publish!!!! You don't seem to be able to publish any calendars other than the "on my mac" ones. Seems kind of silly that you can't publish to MobileMe from MobileMe. Work around is to create a calendar on my mac and then export to the mobile me calendar to desktop and then drag and drop to the new "on my mac" calendar to publish but then you have to go though this process every time changes are made. Surely I am missing something.
    Ralph

    Ralph,
Publishing has taken on a new meaning in Apple terminology. It seems that your definition of "Publish," and Apple's definition of "Sharing" may be very similar.
Take a look at these two articles for some insight:
    1. iCal 4.0 Help: Sharing a MobileMe calendar.
    2. MobileMe Help: Share a calendar with others.

  • Can two iCal users edit the same published/shared calendar

Can two iCal users (obviously different mobileMe accounts) edit the same published/shared calendar? I want to have a calendar running which we can both edit remotely but for it to be synced so we both know what each other is doing. Maybe I can share it on my iDisk somehow? I have searched but could not find an answer so I am sorry if this has been covered already !

There is now way to do this using standard MobileMe and iCal. What you could is both share your calendars so that both of you can read each other's calendar.
If you want both to have read-write access to a calendar you will need to use third party software or set up a Google calendar where both of you have read-write access to the calendar.

  • Publishing multiple calendars in iCal

Is there a way to publish multiple calendars in one view. It seems that I can
only view one calendar at a time. I want to be able to overlay all of my calendars
so we all know who's doing what when.
I''m a Mom with two girls with lots of sports activities, I want the girls to be able to view all events in all calendars like I can see on my Mac.
    Thanks for any input.
    Roberta

    Hi Roberta,
You can publish multiple calenders by creating a Calendar Group. Here are some styp-by-step instructions:
    - Open the menu 'File' and click the option 'New Calendar Group'.
    - Once this new Calendar Group has been created, rename it (for instance to 'Family', 'Sports' or whatever you like).
    - After renaming the Calendar Group, add the calendars which you wish to publish.
    - FInally... publishing Calendar Group works the same as for single calendars (select the Calender Group and choose from the menu 'Calendar' the option 'Publish').
    I hope this works.

  • Publish Exchange calendar from iCal

I've gotten my Exchange calendar to work with iCal nicely using 10.6. This is great. But:
Is there a way to publish an Exchange calendar that is in iCal? The "Publish" option is grayed out for my Exchange calendars.
I can publish other calendars just fine (after forcing iCal to work in 32 bit mode).
Note that I am not talking about syncing to MobileMe. I know that this is not supported. However, I expected that I could "publish" to a web server, such as the one hosted by MobileMe.
For a while now, I've done this by using Entourage to sync Exchange to iCal. The Entourage calendar can be published to the web. I was really hoping that with 10.6 I could finally stop using Entourage.

I'm having a similar issue. My boss has set up a calendar in exchange that is synced with my iCal, and the appointments do appear, however my personal calendar from exchange is not showing any of my appointments... any ideas?

  • Can another calendars events be integrated into a published web calendar?

Apologies in advance for my general ignorance about iCal. I am just starting to venture into the program.
I am the web coordinator for a nonprofit group, and am intending to use iCal to publish a web calendar for our site. I have subscribed to the US Holidays calendar, and am wondering if there is any way to get the holidays to show up in my group's published calendar (i.e. I want holidays on the web calendar, but don't want to have to plug them in myself). It is obvious how to integrate the calendars within the application -- just not sure if there's a way to make events from other calendars integrate into the published web calendar.
Sorry about the redundancy -- just want to be clear.
Also, is there anyway to embed these calendars into a web page.
    TIA,
    mel

    mel,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Just create a new Calendar Group, name it "Publish" for example, and drag the U.S. Holidays into that group.
The following information is taken from iCal Help.
    1. Choose File > New Calendar Group, or hold down the Shift key while clicking the Add + button in the lower-left corner of the iCal window, and then type a name for the group.
    2. Add existing calendars to the group by dragging them under the group name, or select the group name and choose File > New Calendar to create a new calendar within the group.
    3. Remove calendars from the group by dragging them out of the list.
You should be able to embed a link to the calendar in a web page, but I do not know how to provide a direct display of that calendar.
    ;~)

  • Can I publish a calendar twice -or- can I put a cal in two groups

I have two intertwined challenges. If I can solve both, fantastic. Help in solving even one would be appreciated.
    1. I want my assistant to have read-only access to my calendar, so he can see when I'm free and when not. However, he doesn't need to see what I'm busy with, only that I'm busy. So, I've grouped two relevant calendars and publish that group, having unchecked "Show titles and notes". He can check it on the web and only sees what is blocked out. Cool.
However, my wife would like to be able to subscribe to my calendar and I would like her to have access to the titles and notes. So, I'd like someway to publish my calendar twice, once without titles and notes and one with. Can't figure out how to do that.
    2. One of the calendars in the that group is my wife's calendar of family events, to which I subscribe. This works great in that my assistant doesn't try to schedule something during my kids' school performances, but since my wife subscribes to the calendar describe in (1), her events are coming back to her as part of my calendar. Yuck.
I suspect some version of being able to put a calendar in two groups would solve this, but am open to any solutions. Thanks.

Okay, I feel like an idiot replying to my own question, but I figured it out and bet it may not be that rare a problem. So, here is what I did. A bit convoluted, I admit. Perhaps someone can come up with a better way...
    1. Create calendar group called "Private" containing only calendars I input.
    2. Publish "Private" as "MyNamePrivate", set to show titles and notes. Only give that address to my wife.
    3. Subscribe to "MyNamePrivate" myself. Include it and my wife's calendar that I've subscribed to in a group called "MyName".
3.5 Check my wife's calendar so I see it.
    4. Publish "MyName", set to NOT show titles and notes. Give that address to my assistant, my dog, etc.
    5. Uncheck "MyName", so I'm not seeing events twice.

I recently installed a new hard drive in a MacBook 2007 and then 10.6.3. I'd like to be able to Sync iCal to the calendars I have created on other devices (new iCloud account and an ME account). I can't upgrade to 10.7 or 10.8 because the MacBook is 32 bit. Just looking for a workaround as this is not a primary device.

You should update to the latest version of Snow Leopard, 10.6.8 - you can download it here; however it's still not compatible with iCloud and though you can connect to access your email you cannot access any other of iCloud's facilities.
However some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point. I've not tried it: use at your own discretion.
    To access the email:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
Are you sure you can't upgrade to Lion? It requires an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, which you may well have, though it also needs 2GB RAM so you might need to add additional RAM (might not be worth it for what you want). The published specs don't mention 32 or 64 bit. You can buy Lion by ringing the Apple Store at the number at bottom left of this page.
