Publishing and viewing in other browsers

I've published my iweb file to a folder for upload to my domain server, and I have tested the links in Safari and Firefox and they are working well. Internet Explorer (MSIE) on the other hand has not been successful in any of the versions I've tested. I've refined fonts and images to optimize for the web, but that does not help. I am not a coder (thus iweb) so I don't know how to amend the links other than in the inspector pallete. Any ideas how to troubleshoot this so that MSIE sees the same thing that Firefox and Safari do?
BTW i'm testing in MSIE 5.2. If there is a newer MAC version of MSIE I'm not aware of it.

Give this site a try to test your iWeb page: Test your web design in different browsers.
Member Roddy has gathered a number of tips on making iWeb more compliant with IE.
"Basically, iWeb is way too sophisticated for Internet Explorer to handle.
You have to "build down" your site for the World's Worst Browser.
Use web safe fonts.
Don't convert text to graphics .
Optimize all your images.
Don't use drop shadows, reflections etc.
Keep your page file sizes down to a minimum.
Run your files through an optimizing application"
In addition here are some other tips I've gathered from this forum:
1 - do not use and frames or borders, etc. around photos.
2 - don't use any reflections.
3 - use only the web safe fonts from the Font pane.
4 - do not use drop shadow on fonts.
5 - turn off smart quotes
6- if you add a jpg to a page don't resize it in iWeb as that will cause it to be converted to png. Resize it to what you need before adding to the page. Then go into the Inspector/Metrics window and click on the Original size button. iWeb will resize any image no matter what size it is originally.
7 - make sure no items are touching or overlaping text boxes or images as that will cause them to be converted to a png file.
The above will reduce the number and size of files associated with a web page quite a bit. Photos with fancy frames and reflections can generate a thumbnail png of around 110KB whereas the plain version will be a jpg of only 28KB. Although it doesn't sound like a lot, it will speed up loading of the page and be more darkside (i.e. PC) friendly.
Run a test with a test site and publish to a folder. Then follow the hints above and publish to another folder and compare folders.

    You're welcome.
You can download the beta, but you should remember that it is still a beta version and that there are still bugs that need to be resolved. The beta versions are released as test versions to make it possible to get as many bugs fixed as possible before the final release.
Make sure that you create a new profile exclusively for the 4.0 beta version and create a desktop shortcut with -P "profile" appended to the target to launch that profile to avoid the beta version from corrupting the Firefox 3.6.x profile.<br />
The Firefox beta version install by default in their own program folder and do not replace the currently installed Firefox 3.6.x release.

  • Browser is freezing every few minutes with facebook and not on other browsers, please help! i love mozilla, can't switch :)

    hey guys,
im a devoted user of mozilla but lately whenever i open my facebook (or other sites with lots of adds) it freezes for like a minute, every few minutes.
I didn't have this problem when I used explorer nor when doing it on other computers.
so i bet the problem is with my computer but I can't figure out what.. :(
please help me! I hate all other browsers!
    p.s. u guys rock :)

Are you playing Frontierville or Cityville or somesuch? Zynga games are HUGE resource hogs and if you try to pair them with Pandora or YouTube, things can go down really fast. You can also mitigate a little with an adblocker like [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865/ adblock plus].
From reports of this that I've been hearing about, Flash 10.2 (which was a recent update) has been particularly bad with Zynga games. You can try changing your display settings in Flash (right click and select settings and then the first tab) but I would just suggest using just one game at a time. Adobe may be releasing a version of Flash that's better soon, so this may clear up if you update Flash, also.

  • My yahoo emails are blank in firefox and not in other browsers. i want to stay with firefox!

my yahoo emails are blank. i can't forward nor write e-mails. they function well in other browsers (like google) but i prefer using firefox. i've contacted yahoo but they can't figure it out.

Hello and thks for your answer. Here is a link to show you the problem: http://wp.me/p3CFjO-1Qh
I imported the picture using mozilla Firefox. That pic doesnn't show on Safari.
If the same pic I import through Chrome or Safari, there won't be any problem. I wish I could understand what the reason is and what is the solution, as I'd like to keep using Mozilla.
Thanks for your time and I hope you have an explanation/solution for me.

  • A puzzle I made in Adobe Flash on an html5 canvas only works in Firefox, and not in other browsers. What should I do?

I made a puzzle on a html5 canvas in Flash CC, and followed the exact steps of an online tutorial. The final product works in Firefox, but not in Chrome or Internet Explorer. What am I doing wrong?

Call up the Javascript Console in Chrome and see if it's showing error messages.
Also, you might try uploading it to a web server and viewing it from there (or turning Apache on locally). It may be a cross site security issue.

  • How do I re-set Google Search to my actual location? I can change back and forth in other browsers, but in Firefox my change is stuck on a different city and I cannot get it to change back.

I changed my location in Google so I could do a search in another city. Then when I tried to change it back to my location, it stays stuck on the "other" city. I went into Google search settings and tried it on the search page and no changes were saved.
I tried it on Chrome and Safari and had no problems going from one to another and having everything save as I wanted, yet in Firefox it does not change.

    User fonts, those not require by the OS, are in two locations;
    Mac HD/Library/Fonts
    ~/Library/Fonts
I would see if the 11M+ fonts are in ~/Library/Fonts first. If so drag them to the Trash and restart.

  • Trouble viewing with other browsers

    hi anyone that can help?
believelifecoaching.com is the site that i created on iweb. everything looks create when i use safari to view my site. on the other hand when i use IE or firefox (depending on the version) the site has script errors. Does anyone know of a setting or a way to make iweb created sites more "browser friendly".
    thx

Just a heads up about the text in the nav buttons. They need to be checked. 3 of the 4 are not aligned properly in the shapes that make up the buttons and the About Me on the first page is too large for its location.
In order to make iWeb more dark side friendly you'll have to dumb it down quite a bit and lose much of its pizzazz in the process. I'm told that IE7 is by far the most compatible of the IE browsers. Firefox 3 is now pretty good with iWeb sites. For maximum compatibility do as Certified recommended, use another web site editor that doesn't use as much javascript to create the site.

  • I am using PageRage for my facebook theams and firfox does not want to work with it, it has in the past. And I cheack other browsers and it still works for them so I dont know if it is on your end or PageRage's.

The app that PageRage uses "Yontoo Layers(TM) Runetime" so nay Help or info would be appreciated.

Hi tekaryace, we can assist you, no problem! Do you know which version of Firefox you currently have? Did you recently upgrade to version 8? We suggest going within your browsers app settings to make sure that "Yontoo Layers" is enabled for PageRage. To get there, follow these steps: Open up your Firefox browser, click on the orange "Firefox" tab in the left hand corner > click add-ons > make sure that "Yontoo 1.20.00" is listed and enabled. If it is not, please let us know so that we can take this conversation offline to better assist you. Thank you for your patience!

  • Safari (and all my other browsers) die when attempting to use flash

This is getting REALLY annoying. If I uninstall flash the problem goes away. With flash installed... my browsers will hang and die. Safari, Camino, and Firefox all have the SAME problem.
For instance... if I go to youtube and attempt to search for ANYTHING... I get the pinwheel of death.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled flash, reset the browsers, rebooted, sacrificed live chickens, etc... It has steadily been getting worse and worse for weeks and now today it has just decided no more worky.
Checked permissions on the drive... that's not it.
installed clicktoflash... that doesn't even save me.
    Anyone?

    K. I've had this problem for a while. This seemed to work:
Google "macromedia flash player settings" then go to the settings manager. Start with the global privacy settings panel and just keep going down the list til you reach "website privacy settings panel." I basically checked deny to everything and did NOT "Allow third-party flash content to store data on your computer." This seeemed to work. Though it's on a website, it WILL changed the setting for your adobe flash player when you're browsing.

  • HT201302 When I travel with my SLR I like to transfer all photos to the iPad so that they are more easily edited and viewed by others, using the camera kit.  Occasionally I would like to export photos - I have not found a way to do this.  Can you help?

I occasionally have the need to export photos from the iPad to an SD card (photos that were imported using the camera kit). This is useful for e.g. to print photos while travelling.  So far I have not found this functionality anywhere, including in any apps available on iTunes.  Can anyone help?

The camera connection kit can only be used to import photo/video files from a camera, SD card or USB flash drive. You can't import other types of files. You can't export any type of files using the camera connection kit.

  • I could use \Firefox ok but all of a sudden i can no longer use it. I get a message saying there is a problem connecting and although i am connected to the internet and can use other browsers, i cannot use firefox. It is allowed through my firewall.

i think i may have caused this wheni inadvertently pressed upgrade when i had an internet explorer message appear.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
