Publishing/delivery Rules/Crystal Alerts

Hi All,
Has anyone used the following feature and if so did you get it to work? We are using Crystal(WEBI is not Supported) Alerts function with this. And after we set it up and hit the "Run it Now" button, it either goes into a Pending State or Scheduled and never seems to run?
I took this from the Help on InfoView:
u201CDelivery rulesu201D affect how documents in publications are processed and distributed. When you set delivery rules on documents, you indicate that the publication will be delivered to recipients only if the content in the documents meets certain conditions. There are two types of delivery rules:
Recipient delivery rule
If the data in the recipient's instance meets the delivery rule, the instance is delivered to the recipient.
Global delivery rule
If the data in a designated document meets the delivery rule, the publication is delivered to all recipients.
Note: The designated document for a global delivery rule can be different from the document or documents used in a publication. For example, you can set a global delivery rule on a Desktop Intelligence document used as a dynamic recipient source instead of a Desktop Intelligence document in the publication.
If a publication has recipient and global delivery rules, the global delivery rule is evaluated first to determine whether the publication will be processed. If the publication meets the global delivery rule, the system then evaluates the recipient delivery rules to determine which instances to process and distribute for each recipient.
How you set delivery rules depends on the document type that you want to publish. For Crystal reports, you specify a delivery rule based on a named alert that the report designer creates in the Crystal report. For Desktop Intelligence documents, you specify a formula expression. You can also set a delivery rule based on whether the personalized publication contains any data.

The diagram u201CGlobal delivery rule metu201D illustrates how an alert-based global delivery rule works. Here the global delivery rule is set on a document in the publication. The Crystal report has a Revenue alert for values greater than 100,000. The publisher creates a global delivery rule based on the Revenue alert so that the Crystal report is only delivered to all recipients if revenue exceeds 100,000. In this case the delivery rule is met, so the Crystal report is delivered.
Global delivery rule met
The diagram u201CRecipient delivery rule unmetu201D illustrates how a recipient delivery rule works. The publisher sets a recipient delivery rule for the Crystal report so that the report is delivered to recipients only if the report contains data for that recipient. When the report is personalized for each recipient, Green Recipient does not have data in the Crystal report. This means that only Blue Recipient and Orange Recipient receive the publication.
Recipient delivery rule unmet
For publications that contain multiple documents and objects, each document can have its own recipient delivery rule. When you do this, you have the following options for processing and delivery:
If a document in the publication fails to meet its recipient delivery rule for a recipient, the entire publication will not be delivered for that recipient.
If a document in the publication fails to meet its recipient delivery rule for a recipient, that document will not be delivered, but all other documents in the publication will be delivered for that recipient.
Delivery rules are useful because they allow publications intended for a large number of recipients to be processed and distributed more efficiently. Consider a situation in which a publisher at an insurance company creates a publication for its clients that contains the following objects:

  • 4.1 Webi Publication does not have Delivery Rules

I have created a publication for a Webi report in 4.1 BOE. I noticed that the publication does not have an option for Delivery Rules, which is available for Crystal Reports. I'm not sure if that is by Design, as I don't know why it would be available for one and not the other. Here's a summary of the issue:
My publication uses Dynamic Recipients which number over a hundred. Anytime the publication is run, only a few will actually have a report that contains data and is based on if they have posted data for the week or not. Thus it's always an unknown on who should receive a report before run time. So what winds up happening is I get a publication that emails a 100 or so blank reports and about 4 or 5 reports that actually contain data. Obviously the intent is to only send out the 4 or 5 reports that actually contain data. The Publication itself actually works as intended, but as I mentioned before Crystal has Delivery Rules that allow you to "Deliver only when report contains data" which is what I need in Webi.
Does anyone know of a way to get this to work in Webi without the Delivery Rules option? The workaround of course is to re-create the Webi report as a Crystal report and to create a publication for the Crystal report. But the desire is for this to be a Webi report so I am trying to figure out a solution.

    Hi,
Gill is right, on page 133 of SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform Document Version: 4.1 Support Package 3 - 2014-03-26 Business Intelligence Platform User Guide, it states that "This feature is not available for Web Intelligence documents"
I'd suggest you to vote for the "Delivery Rule for web-i based publications" on SAP Idea place on https://ideas.sap.com/ct/ct_a_view_idea.bix?c=1DA84A30-1E5A-43FA-95C5-857A8B99D197&idea_id=7E9C5B32-62A9-48BA-9867-BDF2429FB5FE.

  • Outlook 2007 Rules and Alerts won't open

User complained of receiving duplicate emails after adjusting rules.  I chose to open "Rules and Alerts" from Tools on the tool bar.  When opening  "Rules and Alerts" a box flashes on the screen and I am unable to view any of the Rules.
I am able to create a new profile and then open the rules.  I attempted the outlook /cleanrules command, I was still unable open rules. (It is a Windows 7 OS).  Any ideas,  if I need to use a new profile what is the best way to move all of the
other outlook info without moving the problem?

I am not sure if this issue is has been resolved but here is the fix. I have been having the same problems for a couple months now until today when I decided to fix it.
When you mentioned OWA that got me thinking because outlook rules are workstation standalone (it will apply if the system and outlook is running) the issue is with OWA. If you have ever modify your rules in OWA you will have the problem.
    FIX:
Log onto OWA and go to the options settings.
Go to Rules and try deleting a rule. It should say something like several rules error or something.
LEAVE OWA running and open Outlook.EXE (pretty much just open outlook), preferably, on the computer you set the rules in the first place if you still have it. If not, it is ok.
On your Desktop Outlook, click on Rules and  your pop-up should remain up. Delete the olds rules, yes, all of it.
Refresh OWA to make sure all rules have been deleted. If they have, great. If not, repeat the steps again - Log out of OWA, close outlook and open it back up. Now you can create new rules.
OWA Should have no more rules. In the future, make sure you don't make any changes to existing rules in OWA

  • Can't open Manage Rules and Alerts after adding a shared MB

Have a customer who is using a Terminal Server Environment, all server's 2008 R2 and we're using Exchange 2010.
Office 2010 installed on all server's.
If they add an additional mailbox to Outlook 2010, user's are then unable to open rules & alerts, no error message. It flickers and then nothing happens.
Nothing in event logs that I can see that suggests anything.
If I load up OWA, add a mailbox and then try to open mailbox - it works OK.
    Outlook has been re-installed.
Office 2010 has latest service pack.
If you load up the shared mailbox on it's own, the rules and alerts works fine.
Seen a few threads relating to this but none of them seem to have a fix on there.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Lee,

    Hi Lee,
I have a test in my environment using Exchange 2010 with Outlook 2010. I couldn't reproduce this issue in my environment. In your case, make sure that this customer has full access to shared mailbox. And then follow the steps below to add shared mailbox
to the customer's account and check the result.
open Outlook -> File -> Account Settings -> Change -> More Settings -> Advanced -> Add -> type shared mailbox name -> Ok
If the issue persists, use Outlook safe mode to determine whether the problem is caused by add-ins.
Hope this can be helpful to you.

  • Delivery Rules for Publications (Bo XI 3.1)

    HI,
I have a report and would like to send it to recipients only when a condition is true( Report variable > 1). So i have used publications and set a Document delivery rule on a Report Variable.
    For Example  Condition: <Report variable> > 1
Is it  a correct Syntax ? Because when i set this rule, publication gets succes but Log says publication delivery rule failed and can't distrubute the document.
If i give some irrelevant syntax in delivery rule, still publications get succes and log says publication delivery rule failed and can't distrubute the document
    So iam confused,
    what is correct syntax ??
Do we need to use only universe Objects in Document Delivery rules section ?

Your questions indicate that you are not familiar with XI3.1 architecture and Servers/services involved.
Do you have an administrator who is familiar with the Product ?
Otherwise you need to review Admin guide for XI3.1 to get familiar with the concepts and architecture of the product.
All patching of XI3.x products on the server should be done by windows Administrator or user with Admin priveledges, preferably same user that was used to install the product.
Inst guide says we need to stop all the services except CMS...what does that mean ?
This means that you have to go to CCM and click on Manage servers, login into system and stop all servers except CMS (Central Management Service).
Except Tomcat service in CCM ?
Tomcat is an Application server, it host/serves Web applications used by our product, like Infoview or CMC.
Should i stop SIA as well ?
If you stop SIA, then all XI services will be stopped. Including CMS.
Let me ask you a question - is your XI3.1 installation functioning ? (Can you login into Infoview or CMC ? Run sample reports ?)

  • Easily identify whether alert is from an Alert Rule or Alert Monitor?

    HI everyone,
In the "Active Alerts" view, is it possible to see which alerts are generated from a rule and which are generated from a monitor?  The goal is to be able to quickly determine which alerts are from rules and could be quickly closed vs. which alerts are
from monitors that will automatically close when the state returns to normal (and shouldn't be closed by operators).
I know that the Alert Details area will show if an alert is generated by an Alert Rule or Alert Monitor, but if there were a way to add an additional column to the Active Alerts view, this would help make it visually easier to quickly differentiate between
    monitors and rules.
    Thanks for your help!

Just be aware of some limitations and potentials pitfalls of the scripted approach:
    1) Scalability & Performance - dependant on how many alerts you have \ how often they are updated \ how many other scripts you might have running on the RMS e.g. for updating other custom fields for linking into ticketing systems.
    2) Not all monitors auto-resolve. Some are timed reset monitors and, more pertinantly, others are manual reset monitors. So just knowing whether an alert has been generated by a monitor is not sufficient. Sadly, the way security works within SCOM (ie without
any great granularity), a standard operator cannot view the authoring tab to find out what sort of monitor has raised the alert (even in the alert details, the alert rule \ monitor name is no longer a link to the underlying rule \ monitor.
    3) SCOM doesn't always auto-resolve monitors. This depends on the environment but I have found that in larger environments where the RMS has performance issues that monitors don't always auto-resolve correctly. In those circumstances you can't rely totally
on the alert in the console. You need to right click the alert and view the health explorer to see if the underlying health of the monitor is still unhealthy or not
If you do decide this approach then Steve Rachui has a blog about how to implement updating custom fields here:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/steverac/archive/2010/08/17/updating-custom-alert-fields-using-subscriptions-and-powershell.aspx
There is no change in SCOM 2012.

  • Outlook 2013, Exchange 2010 error with Rules and Alerts

    Hello,
I was recently informed by a user that when they open Outlook 2013 and click Manage Rules and Alerts, they get the following message:
By the way, NO Microsoft, this information is not helpful.  Anyways, I found that the same problem is happening in my Outlook as well.  I do not believe it is happening to all users' accounts, and I am able to set up Rules within Outlook Web Access,
so it seems to be some local setting.  I found a lot of forums suggest running the Outlook /cleanrules switch, and this did not fix the problem.  Other suggestions are to delete the profile on the computer and/or uninstall outlook and reinstall it.
I don't like these solutions, as they don't point to the true source of the problem and do nothing to help avoid this problem in the future.  Has anybody else had this problem and been able to fix it?  We are running Exchange 2010 in our environment,
although not sure if that makes a difference or not.  Any answers that do not suggest the things I have already mentioned would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
For this issue, I recommend you ask in Office forum which is staffed by more experts specializing in this kind of problems. You might get better help there.

  • Cannot publish Business Rules because supposedly Validation is still running

    Hi All
I am trying to exclude business rules (ticking the Exclude flag on the UI) on a certain entity.  When I try to publish the changes the message that I'm greeted with states:
"Business rules cannot be published or refreshed while validation is running for the entity's model. Wait until validation is completed then republish the rules".
The entity is validated when new data is staged in via stored procedures that run on a schedule in SQL Agent.  I have turned SQL Agent off to halt any data updates/validation.  I still get this message.
What tells it that validation is still running.  Is there a flag in the database that could be corrupted? Or a suspended instance perhaps?  Has anyone else encountered such as error?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks, Mihir

Is the version large enough that validation can take more time. Can you check if any validation is running by executing
    [mdm].[udpValidationIsRunning]
Also can you confirm validation process is running in Service Broker by checking
    SELECT 1 FROM sys.dm_broker_activated_tasks WHERE procedure_name = N'[mdm].[udpValidationQueueActivate]'
