Publishing Error (It's driving me mad!)

Hi. I've started to get the Publish Error 'An error occurred while publishing file "/Wed/Sites/iWeb/Site". The only way I can now publish my site is by publishing to a folder and then copying the contents to my iDisk web folder, this then takes forever to sync. I've tried clearing down my iDisk and starting again, reloading iWeb (versions 1, 111, 112). Any suggestions?

Hi
I've also been having all sorts of Publishing problems for weeks now.
First ! thought it was a RAM issue as my file is huge with lots of images and movies. File is 1.19 GB !! and I have over 7 sites open
I put more RAM in my laptop now running at 1.25 GB. I also updated to 10.4.8 and iWeb 1.1.2
I still get problems including "iWeb cannot save", I can sometimes save after small changes, but often have problems saving.
Will not publish, tried a few suggestions offered on this forum, including AUNinja's suggestions
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3404091&#3404091
going to try and split the sites up see if that helps. But Apple really needs to release and update/ resolve this issue. Looking at the posts here it seems a software issue !!
Any new ideas please let me know
Cheers

Hi - I'm new here but this afternoon almost gave up trying to publish iWeb files to my new .mac account. Then, instead of going from the top menu, I clicked on the publish button, lower left of the iWeb window, and it went right up. Not enough tech for this answer, and it may have been coinky-dinky, but it worked ;>

  • Orange E65 Wi-Fi and Livebox-driving me mad!

    Hi all,
I have recently bought a reconditioned Nokia E65 from Orange UK. The phone is nice, but there is one thing that's driving me mad! I cannot connect it to my wireless internet. I am on Orange home max package and I am trying to connect the E65 to the Livebox. The Livebox is set to accept both WEP and WPA. I have tried to setup the phone to connect with WPA but to no avail; it only seems to connect to the livebox if I use WPE and if I set the network mode to "ad-hoc". It seems to pick up an ip address (checked with IfInfo). However, where I try to access the internet I get the gateway error. I checked IfInfo again and I am not getting any subnet, gateway or DNS. I tried to manually set the IP(to the same value that the router assigned automatically before), so that I could also set the other values; I set gateway to 198.162.1.1 and subnet to 255.255.255.0 (as from Ipconfig on my pc) and I still get the gateway error. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Or will I have to send the phone back.
PS I set up the LAN at work (WPA mode) straight away using the wizard in a few seconds. so I really don't get what I am doing wrong.
Thanks in advance for your help

    Thanks for the reply Kraven,
I already have a cheap Belkin router/modem, but I need to use the Livebox in order to use the second phone line with the Home Max package (cheap/free internet phone calls).
I think the problem here is with the Nokia E65 not the router. I have found loads of people posting on the net about this problem (on this forum too). And it does seem to happen with different routers too! Interesting thread here:

  • Publish Error - An unknown error occurred.

I have had an iWeb site published to Mobile Me (previously .Mac) for some time now. I have been doing updates recently, have added posts to a blog that was previously just a place holder, a new My Albums page with one album and made changes to my Welcome page. Over the last few days I have been getting this error when trying to publish the site "Publish Error - An unknown error occurred." and the blog entries, new My Albums page, new album and Welcome page will not publish to Mobile Me or local folder. These pages all remain red after attempting to publish them.
I would really appreciate it if someone could help me through this problem. I have a new baby at home and I am really trying to get some photos etc online for my family to enjoy.

I tried the suggestions on this support page with no luck.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2588
I am able to publish other parts of my site that are old. For example I moved one of my other sites on my iDisk and then republished it successfully. Note I have not modified the content of that site in some time.

  • Sudden publishing error on iWeb 06

I have updated my site since MobileMe kicked in, no problem. Now I'm getting this Publishing Error since I upgraded to 10.4.11:
"Can’t create the file “shapeimage3_link0.png.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges."
    I'm lost here...

Deborah ~ Your Public Profile settings in this thread imply you have downgraded from Mac OS X (10.4.11) to Mac OS X (10.4.7). On a Mac, MobileMe requires the latest versions of Mac OS X 10.5 or Mac OS X 10.4.11 (use Software Update to update to the latest versions). See this _.Mac to MobileMe transition FAQ_. And if you're not on the latest version of iWeb 1.x, Software Update should offer you its latest update also.
After updating to 10.4.11 (again!) and the latest iWeb 1.x, you may still see references to .Mac — particularly in System Preferences. According to the FAQ above, this is normal for Mac OS X 10.4.11. You can continue to use .Mac preferences.
    Deborah Zari wrote:
Will it automatically publish to MobileMe since .Mac is now gone?
Yes — because .Mac doesn't exist to publish to. (Although MobileMe could well be on the same physical servers as .Mac was on.)
    Deborah Zari wrote:
At some point I need to upgrade to '08, but I'll need to find complete, clear instructions on how to go about it.
Once you've installed iWeb '08 and opened it, you'll be invited to make your existing site (domain file) compatible with it. From there on, the short conversion process is automatic. You may find some differences in how your site looks in iWeb '08 (see here and here). If so, if you've made a backup copy of iWeb's key domain file and iWeb '06, you can continue to use them until you have resolved the issues with iWeb '08. And you'll want to preserve website comments when upgrading from iWeb 1.x to 2.0 — see here.

See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. And besides the backup suggestions there, the free SuperDuper! can also be used to regularly create a bootable clone of your entire internal HD on an external drive:
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper
...then if your internal HD fails, you re-boot with the Option key held down. Your Mac will start into Startup Manager, where you can use the arrow keys to select a Mac OS X volume to start from, i.e. your bootable clone from SuperDuper!. Besides the advantage of not losing any valuable data, you can continue working and use Disk Utility app in Applications > Utilities to diagnose the problem.
And, as mentioned before, this free SMARTReporter may give you an early warning of impending hard drive failure:

  • Pages is driving me mad....

I have been trying to compile a newsletter in Pages (v 3.0.2). All my software is up to date. The program keeps crashing and referring to a possible problem caused by a plug in called SFWordprocessing. I am hugely frustrated. Sometimes the draft document won't even open fully before the program crashes. I have tried a second Mac - same issues. I must have sent at least a dozen of the error reports to Apple.
Has anyone else had a problem like this - and did they find a solution. I have to get this newsletter out and the fault is driving me mad... Help !

Before reinstalling pages try dumping the com.apple.iwork.pages.plist file (users/yourname/library/preferences). It is possible it is corrupted. If the file you are using was imported from ms word, it might have been corrupted. Does the crash happen regardless of what pages document you are working on? If it is only a problem on one document, it is I would consider trashing it as possibly corrupted. Try opening a new pages document based on a different template than the one you are using. This might help narrow it down as well. You might also have a corrupted user. Create a new one and see if the problem happens. If it does you have some major surgery on your hands. Check out www. macfixit.com and these discussions and apples kb database for how to remedy that situation.

  • Publish Error Please Try Again with /Media folders

Most of my problems (menu bars masked out, white lines going across photos, etc.) were solved by making a small change to the web page text and then reposting that to the .MAC site. However, when I try to republish my entire site I get a "Publish Error - Please Try Again Later" with the /Media directory of the first page in the list. If I make a change to that one page and just publish it there are no errors.

After nearly a week, my blogs published on .Mac via iWeb have returned this morning. They are complete and unaltered. Previous attempts to re upload them had systematically failed. I had written to Support and gotten an auto reply but no other response. I assume i will be hearing from Apple today. So this matter is concluded for me and I hope that others experiencing similar problems are also now seeing them fixed. If that is not the case and you have not written a service request email to Apple for .Mac support, I suggest you do so immediately. It worked for me.
Which brings me to the wrap up. Yes, like everyone else, I think Apple had a major epic screw up and it hurt me, a very very long time customer. But since this is the first time in 20 years that Apple has done anything other than make products that have made my personal and professional better; and since they are giving me a free month for the downtime, and also since you would have to have your head in your.... not to realize that despite the birthing pains, mobilme is amazing and will make things much easier for mobil professionals, not only do I NOT intend to drop my service, or even more hilarious, switch to some crappy PC environment, I consider the posters making those threats to really need a reality check about what they would be switching to and what they would give up. If they do switch, I wish them the best with their uptime. I have been with .Mac since rollout, this is the first hiccup in years. Apple has apologized, made good, fixed the problem and given me something even better for the same price. Time to get back to work in my new marvelous Mac workflow environment.

  • Publish Error - shape image/png

While there are many posts here on this specific error, there are no solutions that I can find. To recap:
Upon publishing to .mac or a folder, I get this Publish Error:
Can't create the file "shapeimage2_link0.png." The disk maybe damaged, full or you don't not have sufficient access privlidges.
In previous solution attempts found here, I have waited to watch for the offending page and deleted it, moved where the domain is stored, even gone back to deleting all new posts to the post in the blog that was the last successful publish.
I even have started from the last successful post, clicked add post, and left it all the apple default entry of jibberish, made no changes of my own to it and I still get this error. So at one moment it works, then I add the new entry untouched/edited by me, and the default new entry also receives/creates this error.
The error started for within minutes of me going from 1GB to 2GB on my .mac account. I had never had this error before, now I have it every time I try a new post. I contacted Apple at this point, explained this, and was told it's not my iDisk. Apple was less then helpful.
Is there any solution that anyone has yet to find? It is at the point I must stop using iWeb completely. It is obviously an internal error that any user is not in control of or responsible for given the nature of the error and the title of the offending file.
From reading posts here and the lack of guidance on this from Apple, it seems just a flaw in the software or iDisk or combination there of.
Someone please prove me wrong and hopefully propose a solution that is not a work around temporary, one time maybe fix it solution. I have tried those posted here in the past. This happens on every update.
    Thanks.

    Have you tried:
    -repairing disk permissions?
    -verifying your keychain information?
Do you keep a copy of your iDisk on your desktop? (i.e. do you do iDisk syncing?)
All three of these are mentioned elsewhere in the forums, but I didn't see them mentioned in the list of solutions you have tried, that's why I ask.
I'm afraid that I don't have any definitive answers for you.

  • "Publish Error: Publish failed due to network error. Check your internet co

I am using the very latest version of iWeb. I have had it for a week.
First let me tell you the message that I got and then what I was doing prior to getting the message:
It said: "Publish Error. Publish failed due to a network error. Check your internet connections and try again."
I did check my internet connections and I called mt cable modem ISP. He put me through some tests and ascertained that the problem was not with the cable connection. I can connect to the web (of course) and I can send and receive email. The fellow at the ISP (Road Runner) told me that the uploading goes just fine but that the confirmation end of it is bad.
I have made 9 pages for my website. I clicked the button to publish the 10th page and got the message at the top of this post.
Then I called Apple Care and took advantage of the 90-day help warranty. The gal there had me try to publish to my private folder. That worked! I was able to publish to the folder and that message at the top of this post did not appear. It said that the page was published and did I want to visit it.
I ended up deleting the page about my friend Lerma, since everything was going fine until I did that page. AS I recall, there was a mixup with the pages and I thought I had fixed it.
Then I worked a little more on my husband's Memorial Site and tried to publish and got the same bad message as above, meaning that it wasn't just the page about Lerma but any page I might be doing since doing her page.
NOW THIS IS THE ODD PART:
I went to the website on Safari browser with the intention of checking out the other earlier pages, only to discover (happily) that my husband's memorial page (the beginning of it) WAS THERE even though I got that message saying that there had been a network error. Lerma's page, however, was NOT there.
I am between happy knowing that a page can show up on the website even though I get a message saying that it did not, but anxious knowing that if I am getting Publish Error messages, something is screwy with the program.
I will continue to try to publish to the Internet, but meanwhile I welcome any observations and happy accounts of how they got the same message but everything ended up fine after a while.
Meanwhile I am going to be working on my pages even though right now I am getting those messages saying that they could not publish due to network error.
    I need a break.
    — Lorna in Southern California

    Hi Lorna!
Sorry to hear that you're getting the dreaded
"Publish Error" message from iWeb. Lots of people
have reported getting this type of error...and I
don't think it ever really has much to do with the
network...at least nothing that can be fixed. The
fact that you have been publishing just fine up until
now is a good thing. Some people have NEVER been
able to publish to the web. Hopefully this problem
will clear itself up. Maybe it's just sunspots or
something. Probably someone thinks you need a break,
    too.
Is this the kind of thing that would warrant me going back to the Apple Store to get an exchange???

  • Publish Error: Unknown Error -- corrupt page?

    Hi, everybody --
I publish locally because I'm still building my site & am not ready to go live yet. This morning, I made some more changes to my site & when I published, I got the "Publish Error: Unknown Error" message.
Via some experimenting, I found that the problem is with one specific page - the publishing always stops with that page. If I move it to the bottom of the left-hand list of pages, the site will publish fine until it gets to that page.
Obviously, there's something wrong with that page.
Before I delete that page & re-create it, does anybody have any ideas as to what might be wrong with it?
    Things I've already tried:
*) deleting the .plist file from my iWeb preferences folder
*) deleting the iWeb folder from Caches
*) moving the Domain file to the desktop, creating a new test site in iWeb, deleting the new Domain file & moving the original one back in
    *) Rebooting
    Any other ideas?
    Many thanks!
-Michèle from San Diego (in Canada at the moment)

    Hello Michelle,
    Good troubleshooting.
If you can publish fine with all the other pages but not with that page in the mix then I think you are on the right path, it is something with that page.
    Possibilities:
    - Media -- Graphics / Movies / Audio files -- If you have 1 or more "bad" files on this page that could be a source of issues. Try removing those file types and publish.
    - Fonts -- A bad font file could cause issues when publishing. Try changing all the text on the page to a standard font like Arial or Helvetica.
    - Backup -- Restore from a backup before this issue started with that page
    Hope that helps.

  • Publishing Errors - Some Insight

I know many people have been suffering with publishing errors - something about couldn't fine or handle some odd PNG file... well here's some insight into that.
    1. I suddenly saw this happen AFTER I went and deleted some of my web site files directly from my iDisk. I then republished (hoping to clear up some display issues) and I got those errors.
    2. However, I noticed that it did actually publish SOME of the new content. So I hit the Publish button again. It STILL threw and error about some PNG file, but again, I could see that it got farther and published more of the files.
    3. I contined to publish over and over again until every file was complete and until I no longer got those errors.
SO... the moral of the story is, just keep publishing and maybe the errors will go away once everything is updated.
ALSO, I have some inside information about this problem As soon as I get the final words on it, I'll post another note about this on my site.

Did you try holding down "Option" before Publishing? Apparently, iWeb isn't really re-uploading everything, it just touches all the files I think to make sure they haven't been changed (which is why they all show up during the Publish process). Holding down "Option" changes Publish to .Mac to Publish All to .Mac and is available even when you haven't made changes to the iWeb sites.

  • Publish Error whilst publishing to .Mac from iWeb

    Hello.
I have suddenly started getting an error "Publish Error. An error occured whilst publishing file xxx" whilst trying to publish my website from within iWeb.
I have the latest version of iWeb (1.1.2). It used to work OK and I have made no recent changes other than to add a new photograph page. I have plenty of free space on .Mac.
    I have tried the following:
    - Publishing to Folder (this works fine)
    - Deleting the offending file. I then get the error on another file.
    - Deleting the domain file and the com.apple.iweb.plist files in ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb and ~/Library/Preferences. I then tried uploading a default site template and got the same error.
    - Following the steps on http://karreth.com/iweb/22070571-B241-4C09-840B-288E0EC491F6.html. Same error.
    - Creating a new user account and publishing a default iWeb template. Same error.
    - Manually deleting all site and rss content from iDisk using Finder, then Publish All to .Mac. Same error.
So, it seems that the error is not related to my web content, nor is it related to my iWeb configuration files. I can connect to my iDisk using Finder without problems and browse the contents, so it is not an issue with .Mac either.
How can I fix this? The error message is useless and I can't find any more detail in the console logs.
    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Publishing ERROR - Patience wearing THIN

    Dear all,
Sorry to REPOST this topic again, even though there are some question regarding "Publish Error"... But my patience is wearing very THIN... and came to somewhere near intolerable point...
Note: English isn't my first language but I will try my best to explain how I did, and what I think about this issue...
In order to make my publishing from iWeb to .Mac successfully I would have to do following step (sometimes repeating more than once)
    1. After made some change to the site... I would Publish it...
    - then get error on some files mostly index.html, or.. other xxx.png files...
    so
    2. I had to log off myself... then login again.
    3. Empty my Trash... for those temporary file which I don't really know why are they there?
    4. Remove file in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist
    5. Remove all files publish in iDisk via www.mac.com method rather the iDisk on the computer... because it was too slow to remove from iDisk itself...
    Including
    - Web/Sites/index.html
    - Web/Sites/iWeb
    - Web/RSS/iWeb
    6. Force Publish all by "control+publish all"
If I am lucky enough it would have been successfully published... otherwise... I would have to redo step 2 - 6 again...
My Question : Are those steps necessary? I previously only successfully published my web without those steps nor errors only less than 3 times... since I ever used iWeb (Beginning of Jan)...
Are there any SOLID SOLUTION to this? iWeb is fantastic... But I think it is too much since my own blog is growing, as well as other part of my web..
PLEASE COMMENT... anything... OR Contribute any SOLUTION if exists...???
    Cheers

Four things could be going on, but it's fixable.
first.. make sure that your screen saver, and energy saver are turned off in your system preferences. iWeb had trouble with this in it's first version, but since the update it's supposed to be fixed, but I'd still do it.
second, it's been my experience that iweb is affected by bandwidth issues while uploading. If you're using your browser, uploading or downloading anything else... you'll get the error message and that one file couldn't upload. Make sure that when you click on the publish button you walk away from the computer and don't use it. This appears to be a bigger problem for us G4 users than the G5 folks. Also, it's a memory hog, so seriously, when you publish turn everything else off except your computer and iWeb and walk away. Seems to work for me.
Third... make sure your idisk is NOT loaded onto your desktop. If it starts refreshing and files are getting put there while you're uploading, iWeb will give you the dreaded error message.
Finally, just keep republishing. iWeb seems to bog down when you publish sometimes. I re-uploaded my entire website last night, including 7 video podcasts and numerous other blogs that have audio and video in them. I had to publish and publish and publish.... it took four tries, but it finally finished. It seems that it gets farther and farther along each time. Anyway... it works.
Also, once you've published succesfully, it goes faster the next time. I'm still convinced that it's a bandwidth issue and that iWeb times out when there are problems on either your server, your computer, or apple. Anyway... doing these things cleared up the largest share of publishing errors for me.
    Hope this helps.
