When I publish from ibooks author will the pages flip like my other books the preview only slides side to side

Pages continue to slide rather than flip for the horizontal orientation.  In the vertical orientation, the text scrolls up-and-down like a web page (again as shown in iBooks Author if you change the previewed orientation).  I'm not sure why Apple went with the different GUI for their textbooks, but its the same for the ones authored by the big publishers.  If you want to see what the format is like on the iPad, there's a short free textbook (Wilson's Life on Earth) and sample chapters from others available from the iBookstore.
On a side note, one interesting thing about using texts in the two different orientations is that the formating changes as well.  Figures that show up as larger embedded images in the horizontal layout are smaller images in the left margin in the vertical layout, at least in Wilson's book.

    Hi nikp11,
According to your description, you recently updated SQL Server 2008 R2 to SP3, Report Builder doesn’t work since then the error occurs: "Application validation did not succeed. Unable to continue".
This is an known issue in SSRS 2008 R2 SP3 that Microsoft has published an article addressing this issue. It is not planning to release a fix for this issue. But we could implement one of the following workarounds:
Install and run Report Builder 3.0 of SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM.
Install and run Report Builder of SQL Server 2014.
Uninstall Service Pack 3 then uninstall Service Pack 2 and then reinstall Service Pack 3.
    Reference:
Report Builder of SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 3 does not launch
    Thank you for your understanding.

  • Using an SAS2008 Cube as a data source for BI Publisher errors

    Hi All,
I am trying to use a SAS 2008 cube as a data source for a report in BI Publisher. When I defined the data source under the admin section I gave it the following details:
    Data Source=ntsasqa01;Provider=msolap.3;Initial Catalog=WWPR_SMG
With a username / password that has access to the cube.
When I try and test the connection the OC4J instance stops running and the test does not finish or error. If I use the data source and then setup a report and then try and view data I get an error like the one below:
    /app/oracle/OracleBI/xmlp/XMLP/Admin/DataSource/msmdacc.dll (     0509-022 Cannot load module /app/oracle/OracleBI/xmlp/XMLP/Admin/DataSource/msmdacc.dll.
0509-103 The module has an invalid magic number.)
I am not sure if the error is related to the initial issue of not being able to complete the test.
I need to find a solution though as I have to make use of MDX to access the cubes.
Please could someone give me some advice.
    Thanks,
    Kim.

    Hi Kim
    1. SAS cubes are not currently supported - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/doc/bi.1013/e10417.pdf. Unless SAS cubes can use the MS drivers?
    2. If you try and pursue it you might check the permissions on the ddll in the error to ensure you have rights over it.
Either way you are not supported with a SAS cube so you are kinda on your own. Sorry I dont use SAS so Im not going to be much help other than stating the obvious :0)

  • Proxy servers and the "cannot publish" error - v.1.1.2

Using the latest iWeb (1.1.2), attempts to publish my work to my .Mac account resulted in the infamous "publish error." I then came across this KB article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303927
I turned off my proxy access in the Network settings, and voila, publishing was successful. But now, I'm circumventing my much-needed proxy.
It's been suggested in other threads here that proxies aren't a problem if one's iDisk is accessible through it. This is not the case. With the proxy, iDisk access is fine, it's only iWeb publishing that is a problem.
Any way to keep my proxy and still publish with .Mac?

iDisk access and iWeb publishing ARE indeed different activities. They are similar in that they both utilize the WebDAV protocol over Port 80, but they are different in their individual requirements for back and forth communications with the .Mac servers in terms of how soon or in what timeframe they expect to hear confirmation of transfer back from the server.
It is apparent to me that the network timeout threshold for copying something to iDisk is a lot longer than that for publishing through iWeb. In fact, I would say that iWeb has become a lot more stringent with network timeouts ever since it was updated from 1.0 to 1.1.
Anything in between your computer and the .Mac servers contributes to network latency. There are both software and hardware contributions to this latency. Proxy servers, like routers, can be software or hardware based. Software-based latency is most often greater than hardware-based latency.
I would guess that removing any kind of latency "generating" obstacles within your control would likely improve iWeb function and decrease the incidence of publish errors. Some of these obstacles can include background processes, busy LAN activity (like VOIP use or streaming music/video or online gaming), wireless access points, proxy servers, and routers.
On the other hand, I also think that if Apple increased iWeb's network timeout threshold, that most of the publishing errors that people experience could be eliminated.

  • Publish error There was an error communicating with the FTP server. Try again later, or check with your service provider.

OK! So I got everything filled out right to publish my iWeb site with iCloud now but after it looks like everything is fine this error pops up REPEATLY!:
PUBLISH ERROR There was an error communicating with the FTP server. Try again later, or check with your service provider.
Is this an Apple problem or with my server Netfirms???

Yeah no sorry not the answer.  I have my own online hosting unlimited space and bandwidth.
It seems to be linked to teh podcast image.  It's very strange...

  • I am unable to share or export out my movie.  I keep getting an publishing error 49?

I am using a mack book pro and imovie 11.  I am trying to share/export the file out to my desktop.  The video clip is being shared for an hour or so and when I get down to a minute left, It says there was a publishing error (-49).  Can anyone help!

We purchased the year access tech support so I actually did call and his suggestion was to check out the AP store for CD/DVD burners (Which is how I acquired the "MyLife" to try.) or come to an Apple Support Forum like..... here!  LOL!!!  (I was probably directed to a "tech" person.  Not an "application" person perhaps.)
    I'll try again I guess.

  • Please help another publishing error

    Hi
I have checked around for answers (or at least a reasonable explanation of something fairly simple) and found nothing.
I have just tried to add a new pictures page to my site, with a couple of holiday pics. All well and good.
Then when I publish the site, and go through all the hullaballoo of creating every single page again (can someone please explain why? - particularly when it includes creating pages on a different site that has had nothing changed on it!) I get a publish error, failing to upload some arbitrary .jpg. However this graphic was on one of my old pages that I had not touched at all (and had remained "blue" in iWeb).
What is bizarre is that my new page has been published (along with all its pictures) and the old page with the failed graphic is also fine (and all its pictures are there).
I would really like to know why iWeb recreates all my pages, why there was an error on a page and file that iWeb shouldn't have been touching at all and finally, why iWeb still registers my new page (and hence my site) as unpublished despite the fact that I can visit all the new stuff on it?
Just as an aside, I stopped the upload after the error, but my Activity Monitor was still registering a whackload of uploading going on until I actually quit iWeb.
What's going on? In words of one syllable or less please, I am a little slow.
    Thanks!
    John

The procedure is invalid and requires compilation. This can occur automatically when an object that the procedure is dependant upon is changed, there are a number of conditions that control this, which I'm not going into here, documentation is available on technet. Alternatively, when it was last compiled there was an error that was never fixed...
    Anyway, run the following command
    alter procedure flash_report compile;
Alternatively you can use DBMS_UTILITY.compile_schema to compile the entire REPORT schema.
If you get an error, then it's time to debug
Use show errors or select * from user_errors to identify where the error is.
    Fix the error, and recompile.

  • Publish Error Please Try Again with /Media folders

Most of my problems (menu bars masked out, white lines going across photos, etc.) were solved by making a small change to the web page text and then reposting that to the .MAC site. However, when I try to republish my entire site I get a "Publish Error - Please Try Again Later" with the /Media directory of the first page in the list. If I make a change to that one page and just publish it there are no errors.

After nearly a week, my blogs published on .Mac via iWeb have returned this morning. They are complete and unaltered. Previous attempts to re upload them had systematically failed. I had written to Support and gotten an auto reply but no other response. I assume i will be hearing from Apple today. So this matter is concluded for me and I hope that others experiencing similar problems are also now seeing them fixed. If that is not the case and you have not written a service request email to Apple for .Mac support, I suggest you do so immediately. It worked for me.
Which brings me to the wrap up. Yes, like everyone else, I think Apple had a major epic screw up and it hurt me, a very very long time customer. But since this is the first time in 20 years that Apple has done anything other than make products that have made my personal and professional better; and since they are giving me a free month for the downtime, and also since you would have to have your head in your.... not to realize that despite the birthing pains, mobilme is amazing and will make things much easier for mobil professionals, not only do I NOT intend to drop my service, or even more hilarious, switch to some crappy PC environment, I consider the posters making those threats to really need a reality check about what they would be switching to and what they would give up. If they do switch, I wish them the best with their uptime. I have been with .Mac since rollout, this is the first hiccup in years. Apple has apologized, made good, fixed the problem and given me something even better for the same price. Time to get back to work in my new marvelous Mac workflow environment.

  • Publishing Error Help!

This is the error message I am now getting whenever I attempt to publish:
"Can’t create the file “shapeimage1_link0.png.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges."
I'm stuck here. I would like to salvage my files and move them to another computer to publish, but how do I do that??
    Thanks for any help....
    Sunny

Here is one thing you may try:
Try publishing and make a note of which page iWeb is working on when the error message comes up.
Then open the page where the error occurred and open the Inspector.
In the Inspector click on the page icon and uncheck the 'include page in navigation menu' check box and 'display navigation menu' checkbox. Quit the inspector and go back to the page. The navigation bar will disappear. Click on publish.
After iWeb publishes, click on the page again, open the Inspector and this time check both the boxes mentioned above so the navigator bar appears on the page. Then publish again.

  • Publish error: An error occurred while publishing file...

    Hi,
Just installed iWeb08 on my computer. When I try to publish to .Mac I get this error:
"*Publish error: An error occurred while publishing file "/Web/Sites". Try publishing again later*."
This is the link to the screenshot of that message:
    http://www.xHarbour.net/publisherror.png
I also tried it with a new (Free trial) .mac account, but get the same error. Also tried with a fresh new web site, but still error. Also tried to delete my Domain.sites2 files and start fresh, but still the publish error.
Also tried "Publish all to .mac", but same error.
When I go to my "System preferences" -> ".Mac" I need to enter my password to login, this works. So my password works ok on my .Mac account.
Publish to a Folder works without a problem.
Is this a known issue? *What can I do to fix this?*
    Thanks!
    Sincerely,
    Patrick Mast,

    Yep. File/Publish all to .Mac.
Don't mean to sound like a smart @ss, but that's really the solution here. It's the weekend and everybody is updating their sites. I've really come to believe that this is probably part of the problem.
If you like, you can review my Publish Errors Page for a review of Apple tech notes and other user's experiences with this type of problem.
Bottom line is....redial, redial, redial. (I think...!)

  • Publish Error: Unknown Error -- corrupt page?

    Hi, everybody --
I publish locally because I'm still building my site & am not ready to go live yet. This morning, I made some more changes to my site & when I published, I got the "Publish Error: Unknown Error" message.
Via some experimenting, I found that the problem is with one specific page - the publishing always stops with that page. If I move it to the bottom of the left-hand list of pages, the site will publish fine until it gets to that page.
Obviously, there's something wrong with that page.
Before I delete that page & re-create it, does anybody have any ideas as to what might be wrong with it?
    Things I've already tried:
*) deleting the .plist file from my iWeb preferences folder
*) deleting the iWeb folder from Caches
*) moving the Domain file to the desktop, creating a new test site in iWeb, deleting the new Domain file & moving the original one back in
    *) Rebooting
    Any other ideas?
    Many thanks!
-Michèle from San Diego (in Canada at the moment)

    Hello Michelle,
    Good troubleshooting.
If you can publish fine with all the other pages but not with that page in the mix then I think you are on the right path, it is something with that page.
    Possibilities:
    - Media -- Graphics / Movies / Audio files -- If you have 1 or more "bad" files on this page that could be a source of issues. Try removing those file types and publish.
    - Fonts -- A bad font file could cause issues when publishing. Try changing all the text on the page to a standard font like Arial or Helvetica.
    - Backup -- Restore from a backup before this issue started with that page
    Hope that helps.

  • Publishing to a server other than .Mac

Does this version make that any easier? I can't find any information on it... I would rather use my FREE Comcast hosted web site than pay for .Mac... Any suggestions?

To be honest, if there is no built in FTP support, which EVERY other web authoring software that I have used includes, then I'll not be bothering with iLife 08. I'm getting increasingly frustrated with Apple's head-in-the-sand mentality, pretending that we all only use .mac. I have 4GB of hosting for several domains with a hosting provider, and I pay for that, and I'd like to be able to simply publish more than one site to that space using the web design tool (i.e. iWeb), not faff about saving to a folder and then using another FTP app.
Before I switched to the Mac I used FrontPage with FPSE on the server. It really was an absolute pleasure publishing my sites, and I paid noting to have FPSE support on my web hosting. I now use RapidWeaver for my websites, but still miss FrontPage publishing, which was great at recovering from publishing errors, unlike all the FTP tools that I've tried. Web creation and publishing on the Mac is far more of a headache and far less enjoyable than it was on Windows XP with FrontPage, that's for sure.

  • IWeb unknown publishing errors

anytime I try to publish, or publish all, or click the publish button, it churns for a moment, then gives me a unknown error.
I've sat at a genius bar, sat on tech help, and done all I knew how: deleting preferences and caches.
The genius said I should reinstall my applications with the CD included with my computer. I no longer have the CD, (I have a MacBook), and the woman on tech support said it would be $120 to replace it, but the things I needed were online.
Despite my best efforts, I just can't find what I need, and I need a working version of iWeb.
    Help me. Please.

can you publish to a folder successfully?
Have you looked at the tips on Apnewbie's Publishing Errors Help Page.?
What is your internet set up like? (Satellite, wireless to DSL, etc.)
Are you getting an error message? If so, what is it?
Does the error happen while the blue progress bar is up and it says "Creating page xxx"

  • Publish Error: An Unknown Error Occured

After reading many posts, it sounds like my problem has made its rounds but it's a new issue for me:
I recently updated a page with speaker bios and pics (for a conference) and tried to publish my changes (I don't use .Mac; I publish to a folder that I then FTP) when I received a "Publish Error: An unknown error occurred" pop-up.
The error occurred while waiting for the horizontal bar to finish loading and it seems to stop on the very page that I changed.
After reading numerous posts, I did the following: 1) I individually sized, relabeled and exported (into jpg) all the photos that are on the bio page via iPhoto and replaced all the pics with the new ones, 2) I tried the "removing the plist" route, and 3) I re-published and waited 5-10 min, with the pop-up still showing, in the hopes that I would nevertheless see my changes made in my folder.
None of those solutions worked for me.
I've never had publishing issues in the past and I've been constantly updating/publishing since November '06.
Now, I have noticed when I open iWeb a "Missing Font" error (Tw Cen MT Condensed) but I've been able to successfully publish in the past, even with that error showing. Hmm...Could that be the problem? But my bio/pic page only has Veranda (??)
Could the error be related to the page getting too big (because of all the pics/bios on one page)? I currently have 94 pics @ 135x135 (appx 16-22 KB each) on the page.
I really need help in finding the culprit to my publishing error! My speakers want to see their pics and bios!
    Help!
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Publishing errors appear for all sorts of reasons -
Apple servers updating, uneven bandwidth when
    publishing etc.
But these shouldn't affect publishing to a folder.
I know this is going to be a pain, but if it were me, this is what I would try:
-create two or three news pages for the pics/bios (can you categorize the speakers by subject or something?)
-copy the pictures and bios over to those pages (it might be even better if you reimported the pix and rewrote the bios, but that's a lot more work)
-When you've "moved" all the pictures and bios over, delete the original page that appears to be the source of the problem.
This gives you a "fresh start" on the page that appears to be the problem, and it makes the pages a little smaller, in case that's part of the issue. And recreating a page that appears to be the source of the hang has worked for me in the past.
You might also quit most of your other apps before trying to publish, in case the processor and/or memory are being taxed.
