Publishing Errors - Some Insight

I know many people have been suffering with publishing errors - something about couldn't fine or handle some odd PNG file... well here's some insight into that.
1. I suddenly saw this happen AFTER I went and deleted some of my web site files directly from my iDisk. I then republished (hoping to clear up some display issues) and I got those errors.
2. However, I noticed that it did actually publish SOME of the new content. So I hit the Publish button again. It STILL threw and error about some PNG file, but again, I could see that it got farther and published more of the files.
3. I contined to publish over and over again until every file was complete and until I no longer got those errors.
SO... the moral of the story is, just keep publishing and maybe the errors will go away once everything is updated.
ALSO, I have some inside information about this problem As soon as I get the final words on it, I'll post another note about this on my site.

Did you try holding down "Option" before Publishing? Apparently, iWeb isn't really re-uploading everything, it just touches all the files I think to make sure they haven't been changed (which is why they all show up during the Publish process). Holding down "Option" changes Publish to .Mac to Publish All to .Mac and is available even when you haven't made changes to the iWeb sites.

I'm trying to get a blog module going, I've even deleted the html insert bog with the tag in and re-published which then I don't get the error but as a result no blog either. But then I add the tag in again and publish the error comes back. I've used the dev console and it says that my musicians sample.css is out of date but why is it only out of date when I add in html to my muse site?
HELP!!!! I've searched other threads and to no avail I'm publishing so no direct ftp going on. the only thing I changed in business catalyst was the module stylesheet in order to style the blog. I've tried uploading and replacing all files nothing seems to work. the site is here:
    http://www.musicstudentsforhire.co.uk/musicians-samples.html
It's only this page as it has the blog on. Also I've noticed when I've re-published occasionally it will show the mobile version on my desktop and not the desktop version??? no idea why that's happening so I've had to turn that off. any explanation on why that is happening would also be much appreciated.

I haven't received an answer as of yet, I'll post t on here when I do. I de-activated the mobile site because it's my clients site so he needs it to be operational during the day. I hope someone gives me an answer soon.

  • Proxy servers and the "cannot publish" error - v.1.1.2

Using the latest iWeb (1.1.2), attempts to publish my work to my .Mac account resulted in the infamous "publish error." I then came across this KB article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303927
I turned off my proxy access in the Network settings, and voila, publishing was successful. But now, I'm circumventing my much-needed proxy.
It's been suggested in other threads here that proxies aren't a problem if one's iDisk is accessible through it. This is not the case. With the proxy, iDisk access is fine, it's only iWeb publishing that is a problem.
Any way to keep my proxy and still publish with .Mac?

iDisk access and iWeb publishing ARE indeed different activities. They are similar in that they both utilize the WebDAV protocol over Port 80, but they are different in their individual requirements for back and forth communications with the .Mac servers in terms of how soon or in what timeframe they expect to hear confirmation of transfer back from the server.
It is apparent to me that the network timeout threshold for copying something to iDisk is a lot longer than that for publishing through iWeb. In fact, I would say that iWeb has become a lot more stringent with network timeouts ever since it was updated from 1.0 to 1.1.
Anything in between your computer and the .Mac servers contributes to network latency. There are both software and hardware contributions to this latency. Proxy servers, like routers, can be software or hardware based. Software-based latency is most often greater than hardware-based latency.
I would guess that removing any kind of latency "generating" obstacles within your control would likely improve iWeb function and decrease the incidence of publish errors. Some of these obstacles can include background processes, busy LAN activity (like VOIP use or streaming music/video or online gaming), wireless access points, proxy servers, and routers.
On the other hand, I also think that if Apple increased iWeb's network timeout threshold, that most of the publishing errors that people experience could be eliminated.

  • IWeb team: What's up with the repeated Blog publish errors?

I maintain a simple, albeit many-entry -- all with photos, Blog on my daughter's .Mac iWeb site. Since the last iWeb update, I've started to encounter repeated difficulties when attempting to publish new Blog entries. All other updates on the site (Photo Albums, About Me, etc.) successfully publish, whereas new Blog entries pose the same problem, as follows:
"Publish error - Can't create the file "shapeimage_(blah, blah, blah).png. The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges."
Many of you are VERY familiar with that ubiquitous message. However, my many attempts at troubleshooting and workarounds (e.g. publish to a folder, close open applications, delete files from iDisk, republish all, trash and rebuild pages, Domain reloads, etc. -- thank you, James Tseng, Varkgirl, et al.) fail to isolate the CAUSE of the problem. Specifically, what is the iWeb app doing while it assembles the Blog page(s) that results in the iWeb-centric "can't create..." error message?
Please note that I am doing nothing different when adding a new Blog. The process is the exact same one that I've employed for over a year, one that lets iPhoto/iWeb do most of the work (in terms of layout).
As most of you know, it's a time-consuming process waiting for updates to publish to the site, let alone wondering IF the updates will successfully publish.
Unless I am mistaken and more often than not, the "shape_image" error message is pointing to a file generated by iWeb as it readies the behind-the-scenes HTML for upload, yes?
I'd appreciate some specific troubleshooting and answers, please.

  • MDM PUBLISHER ERROR

    Hi,
when i am trying to open MDM publisher , I am getting error XERCES-C_2_6.DLL  was not found. How to get rid of this problem.

    Hi Jaswanth,
No we do not require any server other than Layout Server to work with MDM Publisher. You can try to install MDM Publisher on some other Wondows machine and check if you face the same problem.

  • Publish Error - An unknown error occurred.

I have had an iWeb site published to Mobile Me (previously .Mac) for some time now. I have been doing updates recently, have added posts to a blog that was previously just a place holder, a new My Albums page with one album and made changes to my Welcome page. Over the last few days I have been getting this error when trying to publish the site "Publish Error - An unknown error occurred." and the blog entries, new My Albums page, new album and Welcome page will not publish to Mobile Me or local folder. These pages all remain red after attempting to publish them.
I would really appreciate it if someone could help me through this problem. I have a new baby at home and I am really trying to get some photos etc online for my family to enjoy.

I tried the suggestions on this support page with no luck.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2588
I am able to publish other parts of my site that are old. For example I moved one of my other sites on my iDisk and then republished it successfully. Note I have not modified the content of that site in some time.

  • Iweb/ computer to computer transfer/ publish error

Problem with iWeb 09 and in particular publishing on my Blog.
Today I decided to try and shift my iWeb site to a 2nd computer, from my iMac to my MacBook. Both have been installed up to date with all the latest software updates.
I moved the domain.sites2 file as suggested on iwebfaqs website, by flashdrive and put it into the MacBook. My page and all its content from the old machine transferred as would be expected without any glitches. However, when I have tried to publish a new article on my blog on the iWeb site, the first attempt for some reason uploaded without a problem. The second time however, I tried just a minor tweak and it came up with publish error an unknown error has occured.
I attempted several times using the regular methods yet nothing has changed. I have deleted domain and tried again. I am running out of ideas. Any suggestions?

If you are publishing to MobileMe there are problems with it today apparently.

  • And yet another publishing error

I'm trying to publish my sites to a folder so I can upload them to my domain server. iWeb is not able to publish to the local folder on my desktop without getting a publishing error. I'm seeing other issues similar to mine on the forums. Wondering if anyone has pinpointed the problem and if there's some way to get around it while we wait for things to get fixed in Mobile Me Land.

  • Troubleshooting a publishing error

I ran in to my first publishing error when updating my blog this morning. Thought my experience might help others.
The iWeb file would error out while uploading to .Mac. It didn't offer a reason for the error. It would just stop publishing.
I eliminated a photo file that might have been a problem. Still no luck.
I quit iWeb and relaunched. When iWeb opened it gave me a message about a missing file. Didn't tell me which one but I quickly found it, deleted it from the page and -- voila! -- it loads fine.
Quitting and reopening iWeb might help you locate a problem when the file won't publish.
    Good luck!

Yes, not having a chapter marker at the end only refers to the end that is at the end. Not the end that is at the other end.
While logically the question is a good one, Encore puts a chapter marker at the beginning whether you want one or not. And one way to get this problem is to think  you've faked Encore out by putting the first chapter marker two frames in.
You can label Encore's Chapter 1. I thought you had to wait till you were in Encore, but in CS6 at least, you can name it in Premiere,
If you are seeing a chapter at one second; you may have 2. In a test, Encore does not move the marker when I transcode.
Be sure you are not seeing a poster frame marker.
And it may be a different chapter marker or some other problem that is throwing the error.
I assume there is only one Premiere sequence on your one timeline, correct?
From your description, I would look for an accidental chapter marker too close to another one.
I would start over with a new Encore project.

  • Sudden publishing error on iWeb 06

I have updated my site since MobileMe kicked in, no problem. Now I'm getting this Publishing Error since I upgraded to 10.4.11:
"Can’t create the file “shapeimage3_link0.png.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges."
    I'm lost here...

Deborah ~ Your Public Profile settings in this thread imply you have downgraded from Mac OS X (10.4.11) to Mac OS X (10.4.7). On a Mac, MobileMe requires the latest versions of Mac OS X 10.5 or Mac OS X 10.4.11 (use Software Update to update to the latest versions). See this _.Mac to MobileMe transition FAQ_. And if you're not on the latest version of iWeb 1.x, Software Update should offer you its latest update also.
After updating to 10.4.11 (again!) and the latest iWeb 1.x, you may still see references to .Mac — particularly in System Preferences. According to the FAQ above, this is normal for Mac OS X 10.4.11. You can continue to use .Mac preferences.
    Deborah Zari wrote:
Will it automatically publish to MobileMe since .Mac is now gone?
Yes — because .Mac doesn't exist to publish to. (Although MobileMe could well be on the same physical servers as .Mac was on.)
    Deborah Zari wrote:
At some point I need to upgrade to '08, but I'll need to find complete, clear instructions on how to go about it.
Once you've installed iWeb '08 and opened it, you'll be invited to make your existing site (domain file) compatible with it. From there on, the short conversion process is automatic. You may find some differences in how your site looks in iWeb '08 (see here and here). If so, if you've made a backup copy of iWeb's key domain file and iWeb '06, you can continue to use them until you have resolved the issues with iWeb '08. And you'll want to preserve website comments when upgrading from iWeb 1.x to 2.0 — see here.

See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. And besides the backup suggestions there, the free SuperDuper! can also be used to regularly create a bootable clone of your entire internal HD on an external drive:
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper
...then if your internal HD fails, you re-boot with the Option key held down. Your Mac will start into Startup Manager, where you can use the arrow keys to select a Mac OS X volume to start from, i.e. your bootable clone from SuperDuper!. Besides the advantage of not losing any valuable data, you can continue working and use Disk Utility app in Applications > Utilities to diagnose the problem.
And, as mentioned before, this free SMARTReporter may give you an early warning of impending hard drive failure:

  • Publish Error: There was an error updating .Mac

    Hello,
This is the first time I have had any problems with iWeb when trying to publish a site. After the site and pages are created, I keep getting the error:
"Publish Error: There was an error updating .Mac".
    - I have iWeb 1.1.2
    - I am not over quota.
    - My account is not expired.
    - I've tried multiple times over a 1.5h period.
    - I've tried closing/restarting iWeb, rebooting my machine, and manually deleting all files in my .Mac/Web/iWeb folder in case any got corrupted somehow.
    - I've emailed tech support about this too.
Hopefully this is just a server issue on Apple's side and is temporary. Anybody experience problems around today?
    Cheers.
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Okay I am very relieved to hear that people out there are experiencing what seems to be the exact same issue (and that I don't have to suffer through Apple support). I as well, after experiecing this issue, was totally unable to login to my website (password kept getting rejected).
As of right now - 12h after first experiencing this issue - I still cannot publish to iWeb.
When trying what was suggested earlier, a lowercase login, I received a new and more interesting error message:
Publish Error: An error occurred while publishing file “navbarseparator3.png.” Try choosing File > Publish All.
I then tried to "Publish All" and viola - it worked! What is fascinating to me is that I have used the same login/password for a year now with no problems and how a single capital letter in a login can cause so much grief. Hmm. Anyways, thank you Mr. Apnewbie for your suggestion.
I think .Mac is a superb service - however for the price, there are still some very fundamental kinks that it seems they didn't throughouly test out at Apple before charging people/releasing their software. Mainly, all the kinks related to multiple passwords with multiple web sites (and obviously logins!).
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)
I'm marking this as "solved" (though why we all mysteriously had the same odd experience at the same time is yet unresolved. The solution suggested above has worked for me. Please try and comment here if it works for you too. I hope it does.

  • Funny, got all the 'Publishing Error' messages but websites get published

    Hello all.
I have 3 .mac websites using iWeb.
Last night had trouble publishing, because some "navigation bar error", so I 'publish all', still failed. So every site every page on the left panel is in red.
Brought the Domain file to the office to try and publish, still failed. Mounted iDisk and trash everything, then tried 'publish all' again, still getting some error messages, then tried last try 'publish', reported a network error.
All the icons on the left panel is still in red
*But funnily, a check on my websites and all of them have been published!*
*So how am I going to "update" my iWeb/Domain file, because they are all in red, thinking they are not published yet?*
    Cheers

I am having the same problem, after weeks of everything being OK. Suddenly, in the last 24 hours I get a variety of messages, including the "Unknown Error" message and one called "Lock Error". Beats me what THAT is.
When I look at the url with Safari, it all seems to be fully updated, but iWeb certainly THINKS there has been an error, and leaves all the pages that have been altered in any way in the familiar red highlight color.
Trying to contact customer support. Could take a while, of course!
    Good luck!, Charlie
