Publishing IWeb Created Website in AOL Space

Hi!
I created a website using iWeb. It was very easy to do. However when I tried to publish it on my AOL webspace, it did not work. I uploaded the contents of the desktop folder to my AOL FTP space but when I went to the URL, neither the text not the jpgs displayed properly.
Am I doing anything wrong? Has anyone successfully uploaded an iWeb created website to AOL space?
Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Rudy

How did you do this? I think you must use a real ftp
program and not the AOL uploader, as the latter will
not preserve the structure of your site, which is
required for it to work right.
Like others, I recommend you use another host. AOL
is just a pain.
Hi Tom!
Thank you for your insights.
What is a real FTP program and where does one find it? Also can a real FTP program be used with AOL? I uploaded to my AOL webspace usng the buttons and tools that AOL provides for doing this.Is there any other way?
Thank you for your help.
Most cordially,
Rudy

  • How to display a music album in a iWeb created website on MobileMe

    Hi There
I have several songs and some Music videos that make up a Music Album (mine that I have made myself do I have the copyright to them) that I want to publish on my iWeb created website (hosted on MobileMe)
How can I get the whole Album to import. I have try dragging the things from the media side bar, I have also just tried dragging the whole album direct from the iTune Library, but no matter what I try it displays all the songs and the video as separate files and wont import them as a whole album.
Can someone tell me how to get them as a whole album
    Thanks

Do you want to have the visitors play each of the songs and videos? You can use a flash based jukebox for the audio files and a video jukebox for the videos. You would only have to upload the files to your server once and then link to them there. With these methods the files don't load until you select the play button thus allowing the page to load much quicker.
Roddy's iWeb for Musicians site has a number of such examples on these pages: Music Players and Video LightBox Audio Jukebox.

  • The password/user name function of my iWeb created website does not function...

The password/user name function of my iWeb created website does not function now that I have moved it from MobileMe to another host.  I read that the password/user name feature works for MobileMe but not for a FTP host.  Now that MobileMe is not going to be available is there a solution?

  • Cannot load iweb created website onto iphone.

Cannot load iweb created website with iphone. I have tried with 2 iphones and they couldnt load the page. I also have tried with windows 7 internet explorer, safari and in Leopard also, they'dd all work.
All I get from my iphone is : Safari could not open the page because the server has stopped responding.

I think I found your problem Safari on the iPhone does not like "framesets"
Safari on iPhone does not support:
Events: mouseover and mouseout, including :hover styles and tool tips, (but it does support onclick and event listeners). Safari on the iPhone does not support the document events of onkeydown, onkeypress and onkeyup, the form-field events of ondblclick, onmouseenter, onmouseleave, onmousemove, and onSelect, and the window events of onresize and onScroll. This is not an exhaustive list, so test your event handlers before listening to me.
    window.showModalDialog()
Plug-ins: Flash or Java, and plug-in installations. Do not ask users to download Flash.
File-size: Non-streaming files of over 10MB. CSS, JavaScript and HTML files are limited to 10MB per file. JavaScript is limited to 5 seconds of execution time. Safari for the iPhone does support gzip compression, so compress!
The iPhone does not support gifs, png or tiffs over 8 MB and jpgs over 128 MB (but does support larger streaming media files).
You can use iFrames, but avoid framesets.

  • Publishing IWeb created webpages-wiever problems

Hi, need some help to instruct my network of wievers how to "attach" iweb created pages. Very often they have serious problems wieving the nice photopages I create with iWeb. My friends, family give me feed backs as "can´t see photos only slideshow" among other. Most of them are running Windows PC , but also PowerMac G3. Is their any place to find information about what should be installed at the wievers computer or minimum system demands??

  • IWeb created website can no longer be opened by iWeb

I created a website with iWeb several years ago.  I am attempting to update that website but the iWeb "Open" option is no longer highlighted and therefore cannot be selected.  When I use finder, I tried using the "Open With" capability, but I get an error that the website cannot be opened by iWeb.  When I created the website, I had a MobileMe account (however the website is published to a standard hosted web site). I believe the iWeb version is a 2008 version.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

Do you have your domain.sites file for the site that you created?  It is normally located under your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
The domain.sites file is where all the information about your site is stored and you need this file to be able to make any alterations to your site.
It does not matter at all where you have published your site of what version of iWeb you are using for that matter. iWeb is unable to open published files - one way street.  It only creates html files on publishing.
If you don't have your all important domain.sites files, then you'll have to re-build your site from scratch.

  • Is anyone running an iWeb created website on a non-.Mac host????

Please help me. I have created a draft website and tested it on my hard disk. It ran perfectly without problems. Then uploaded it to my host (www.shorestopeaks.com) and I am getting a lot of error even if I am browsing using Safari (wonder what PC users are getting).
Why is this happening? Is there any way to fix it? iWeb would loose entirely its value to me if I can't fix it because I only run commercial sites, so I cannot depend on .Mac.
BTW. I have never owned an actual .Mac account (opened a trial and never had time to try it ) Can I run a website from there with a commercial URL that doesn't include .Mac anywhere?
    Thanks.

Indeed you certainly can host your site somewhere else other than at .mac. I'm hosting mine with Dreamhost and have had no problems. You can take a look at it here (feedback, good or bad, is most welcome—and give your cache a heads up, because there are a LOT of graphics, and iWeb is TOTALLY and UTTERLY innefficient about handling them, so…you have been warned).
Within iWeb, I published to a folder on my desktop and then uploaded the files to my website using Transmit. If you need more specific information/instructions, I can help with that too.

P.S. Not much content at my new site yet because it's, well, NEW. There is a little, though.

  • Transport iWeb created websites on my iMac G5 to my MacBook Pro?

I started with an iMac G5 and composed two websites. A MacBook Pro was bought to use it on my way. How can I work via iWeb on my MacBook Pro with the websites I created on my iMac G5?

  • How can Windows co-workers modify my iWeb created website?

I have created a web site, and it is hosted by 1and1. I want other people (on Windows machines) to be able to modify it. Here are my questions:
    1. If I give them the 1and1 login info, can they access the FTP file and make modifications?
    2. In order for the Windows users to make modifications, could they do it via their browsers, or would they need an application on their computer?
    3. If they have to download the file, open it in (for example) Windows Dreamweaver, and then upload it, would I be prohibited from further modifications on iWeb? If I got Dreamweaver on my computer, could I then make modifications down the road?

Okay, you don't download WordPress - WordPress is what is known as a Content Management System being similar to Drupal and Joomla. You can access WordPress.com online and can create a site or a blog online and publish it and anyone can alter it online, so all you need are log in codes for people to access.
Your other alternative, if you already have hosting, is to install WordPress.org on your server - this will normally be an automatic install to your server of WordPress and a database and can be used with your existing domain name. Again, you customise and choose your template and people can access the site to make alterations by using the log in code and this can all be done on line.
This does however, mean re-creeating the site and you don't download WordPress.
Your other alternative is to re-build your site in DreamWeaver, there is DreamWeaver for Mac as well as PC and once you have re-built it, PC users can make alterations too.
DreamWeaver will open the html files from your iWeb site, but the site will probably not display correctly due to the code used, so in the long run, it will probably be better to choose a different package, either WordPress directly online or DreamWeaver and re-build your site.
iWeb was not a good choice in the first place.

  • I need to create a form on my website that viewers fill out and send to me on my iWeb created website. Is there a template or widget that can create fill-in forms?

I need to create a form that viewers can fill-in and send back to me from my website.  I created the website in iWeb and would like a template or theme that has the form creator included.  It there a widget?  Sorry, I'm a novice.

If you want to raise your web design skill level above that of the average iWeb user, you can try creating your own. The actual form layout is fairly easy if you use CSS to style it since the amount of HTML is minimal now that table layouts are a thing of the past.
Here's some examples of forms created in iWeb...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iweb-snippets/form.html
The formmail.php script is probably the hardest part to get your head around and the example provided in the download on the above page uses a very simple one along with a formmail-thank.php.

Nowadays we need to consider mobile device users more and more so forms need to have the special inputs required to launch the various types of keyboard on these devices.
Here's an example of a form which responds to browser/device width. On mobile devices, the
jQuery UI Datepicker disappears to be replaced by the mobile version.
For those of you who don't have a mobile device to test it on, this page also has illustrations of the various keyboard types and the alternative date pickers...

  • How can I password protect imbedded folders within an iWeb-created website?

I have read that iWeb will not allow you to password protect individual imbedded content (ex. individual albums or pictures), but, that you can only protect the whole site. I have also read on here that the password protection for the site isn't very good and is easily broken.
Short of creating multiple pages (each password protected) and then linking all the private pages to a public page, is there any easier way to password protect individual items of content rather than the whole site, preferably in a way that can't be "broken" in terms of bypassing the password?
Maybe I need to use a different application to create the website? If so, recommendations?

What kind of content? If you use PDF files you can password protect them when you create them. The same goes for Word documents.

  • Is it possible to update an iWeb created website from the DotMac website??

I created a wedding website with iWeb on my computer. My fiance is in a different state right now. Is it possible for her to update the blog part of the site without being in front of my computer and using iWeb?? Can she do it from the .Mac site if she is logged in as me??

    No.
The iWeb files needed for editing are on your computer and she doesn't have a copy.

  • Trying to publish iWeb created pages on a 3rd party webpage server...HELP!!

I recently purchased iLife '06. My questions pretains to iWeb specifically. I have been laboring for hours trying to publish one page that I made to a third party web page server with absolutely no success. I am currently trying to upload my page to freewebs.com via the upload service they offer; would using FTP make a difference? Do you know of a free web page server that works with greater compatibility with iWeb? (i.e. not having to convert .png files to .jpg or .gif, etc.)
    PowerBook G4, 1GHz, 60GB, 512MB   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Does your provider allow ssh/scp? I'm a UNIX admin, so I typically do all this stuff from a shell or via scripts that I run. But this is very easy, IF they allow scp.
    - Save iWeb to a directory (for the sake of this example, I'll say "~/sites"
    - Open up a terminal
    - Change directory to the sites directory
    cd ~/sites
    - Run the scp recursively
    scp -r * [email protected]
It'll ask you for your password, then it'll transfer all the directories in "sites" recursively (i.e. all the file and directories in each directory).
