Publishing one iWeb project at a time?

With iWeb I made a website and was able to publish it to a folder, public_html, which I then uploaded with Fetch. No problem.
But then I made a second website project, highlighted only that one, and went through the same steps, but I ended up getting elements of the first website; the one that is already online.
How do I only publish the folder with elements for the second website, and not both?
Thanks,
Panther

there is a freeware app called iwebsites which is a helper app for iweb -
do a search on google and heaps of pages will come up with links to download it -
donwload it and install it and then follow the read me instructions
- its simple and easy!

  • Find an Iweb project on a time machine back up

    Hi
Following a complete new reinstall of 10.5.7.,
I try to find my Iweb project in a Time Machine back up but I can't.
The migration assistant doesn't allow to see any aplications.
    Can you help me ?
    Merci d'avance

Go into your back up, your iWeb project will probably be:
    'Backup_path*/Users/*your_username/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain'
assuming you don't already have a current Project in your new OSX installation (in which case make a copy of it), you can copy the 'Domain' file to:
    /Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain
which can then be opened in iWeb.

  • Publishing One Blog Entry At a Time

I am going to use my website and blog page for a class I am going to teach, and I will use my blog page to assign journal assignments. I would like to do some of these in advance, but I only want to publish one entry at a time. Does that make sense? Can I do such a thing?
    Thanks!

I don't think you can selectively withhold the publication of blog entries — once they're created, they're all published next time you publish.
Problems with iWeb's blog are a recurring theme on these forums and it's advisable not to use it for important projects — or perhaps for anything! ...For a success story with a non-iWeb blog hosted on WordPress, see this old thread:
To blog or not to blog
And to link to an external blog from iWeb's navbar:
Create a blank internal page titled "Blog" (Actually you can name the page whatever you want.) Then in that Blog page add an HTML Snippet with the following code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "http://www.yourblogname.com"; // change this to your own URL
    </script>
...Once published, clicking on "Blog" in the navbar will immediately redirect to your external Blog page. (Thanks to Cyclosaurus for the code).

  • IWeb projects from two computers. How do I combine onto one machine.

    Hi,
I have been working on five sites in total. Three of them were satrted on my iMac G5 and recently I have just started two more but on my new MacBookPro.
They are all published, but I now want to combine all of the projects onto my MacBookPro. After some research it seems that iWeb saves one file called Domain in the iWeb folder. I can't have two Domian files in the same folder (one replaces the other)
Question is, how do I combine all of my iWeb projects together into one Domain file?
    Any help appreciated.
    Keith

I was wondering the same thing, for the same
reason...it sounds as if the separate domain files
must be maintained separately [maybe in separately
named folders in AppSupport/iWeb? and then just
switch between the separate folders to be able to
edit on one machine....but then be careful when you
do an Announce, because it'll only send
http://web.mac.com/nameofuser to the people and it
might open up Site #2 and not the one you sent,
    right??
This is the reason there are applications like iWebSites (http://mistergregg.com/cocoadrillosoftware/) that help you to switch in and out different domain files. With multiple sites, you must specify the longer URL in order to get people to the specific site. I don't think the Announce email function is really up to snuff in this regard.
Any easy way to cure this issue of being able to
easily announce Site 2 to some and Site 3 to others?
without visiting sites and sending the LONG link????
    that's inelegant.
See my post to you about subdomain forwarding in this thread...

  • Can I publish one page at a time to the ftp when publishing entire site?

I am currently using iweb to manage my website and i changed a number of pages and require to re-publish the entire site. When i go to do this it attempts to bundle all the files together and publish, but the site only allows for 8 connections via ftp. Is there a way that when i publish the entire site that i can publish one page at a time?
    Thanks for your help!

Publish your site to a local folder...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Publish-Website.html
... and upload the files using an FTP application...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Search-Engine-Optimization/Upload.html
That way you can upload individual files and folders - one at a time.

  • Can't Publish One Page At a Time. Please help.

    hi guys.
every time i try to publish solely one page to a folder, iWeb starts exporting all of the pages in the left-side menu i have ever created! how to avoid this? how can i publish/export only one page at a time? cheers.

You can't. That's one of the most widely reported complaints of iWeb: you have to publish the whole darn thing every time you update one page.
I've gotten so I publish the whole thing but upload only those pages I know have changed.

  • Multiple sites, publish one at a time?

I have multiple sites, but when I publish them they all publish together. Can I just publish one at a time??? If not, this program is not very good..

I just want to select one SITE and
upload it, not have all the others upload too. Anyway
    to get aroud that?
It should not upload a site that has no changes. But there is no way to avoid uploading changes, unless you want to start using separate Users/username/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain files for each site.

  • Publish one site at a time

If I have two "sites" on my iweb, how do I publish one at a time. I keep getting messges that I can't connect to iweb. This was during the time I was uploading new pages and each one was going fine. I thought this was because I had too many pages, so I separated them to two "sites". This now shows many pages with changes (as in red folders), but I only want to publish one "site". Anyone have the same issue? It was taking 20 minutes to get the error message.....

I use iWebSites to manage the multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process and move it to another location on your HD until you're satisfied the separation process is completed and what you want.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.

  • Should be able to sync more than one project at a time

We should be able to use the shift key or the command key to sync more than one project at a time. This goes for the "content" pane as well as the "folders" pane.

    Send feedback/suggestions to Apple.

  • Solutions for "Unknown error occured" when publishing in iWeb

Many complaints where written on the forums about this annoying *"Unknown error occurred"* bug, while publishing in iWeb.
Until now, nobody could actually find the problem, but in most cases the problem is not a network connection, but an iWeb bug, that occurs during html files creation process.
I'm using iWeb a lot and through my work found several different solutions, that worked for me and for many other users. Try them all out, before going desperate and rebuilding the site from scratch:
    1. Try closing and reopening iWeb (do it in all other steps between operations).
    2. Try to publish the site Locally. If it works, try publishing to the server again.
    3. Try publishing the ENTIRE site, first Locally, then to the server (File>Publish Entire Site). This operation forces iWeb to rebuild all the files from skratch.
    4. Try closing iWeb and deleting the User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iweb.plist preferences file. iWeb will create a new one again next time it opens (don't worry, you will only lose iWeb preferences, but not your website)
    5. If publishing locally worked, but online didn't, then upload the locally published site folder to your server manually using any FTP client.
    6. If nothing works, try reinstalling iWeb. Before doing that, back-up your project file, which is located at +User/Library/Application Support/iWeb+ to some other location.
Also, as an advice, avoid using non web-safe names in your files and web pages. I.e. - don't use spaces and Capital letters, this may cause problems. For example, instead of naming a file: "Nice picture.jpg", name it: "nice_picture.jpg"
Post more solutions, if you have them.

Try signing out of the app (Store menu,) quitting the app, restarting the app and signing back in.

  • Archiving old iWeb projects

Can I save old iWeb projects to iCloud?  If so, how do I do that? Or must I save them to a new web host ? Thanks.

No.  To archive your websites make copies of your Domain.sites file that resides in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.  That's the file/package that iWeb uses to create and publish your website.  Keep copies of it to preserve the website at the date the copy was made.
If you're running Lion read the following:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Error Publishing from iweb 09 - Server or iweb problems??

I upgraded from iweb 08 (I had no issues) to iweb 09, and I have publishing errors more than half the time. Are the mobileme servers having problems, or is there a hack in the iweb software?
This is a big problem because I have 20 Gb of pages with video that I need to re-publish. It is bad enough that I will be tying my network up for 2 weeks, but that I often don't make progress.
The message is "Error connecting to mobileme, check network.. .." The problem is that it uploads for an hour or so before it stops.. I am double checking to see if my routing is causing the problem, but I don't think so..
Is Apple working on this? Are there numerous people who are now stuck re-publishing their sites and the servers are getting beat up? Does anyone know how to diagnose this type of problem?

Finally i solved the issue of Publishing Error in iWeb 09 with MobileMe.
Procedure which i followed and might also help you guys.
Lets say your default site name is XYZ then create a new site e.g. ABC.
Thereafter dragged all pages from default site XYZ to new site ABC ONE BY ONE.
*In the preference folder delete any PLIST files related to iWeb (i had two files in my folder).*
*Once you drag all pages from your default site to new site there after just make a new blank page and publish the site.*
Then start dragging first one page from new site ABC and publish one page. There after repeat all pages one by one and publish after every page you drag from new site ABC to default site XYZ.
Once you finish then take a backup in time machine of the domain.
There after start your blog page then publish again then start photos album page, publish again then your movie page, publish again etc because these are the pages which were mostly creating errors.
After you complete the final page and publish remove the blank page and publish again.
I spent 3 days with the same problem and finally i could finish by this method in few hours.
