Publishing Problems iWeb 1.1.2 and OS 10.4.8

I have seen many people post with problems publishing after updating to 10.4.8 and iWeb 1.1.2.
Here are a few examples:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=674374&tstart=45

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=678664&tstart=15
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=674405&tstart=15
These are only a few examples I have seen. I have also had this problem. I have attempted many solutions. Many of which were so kindly offered in this forum. Here is what I have tried:
Uninstalling iWeb and reinstalling iWeb 1.1.1 (followed full instructions)
Removing all new entries
Publishing to both a folder and to .mac
Thus, I attempted to publish put everything back to the way it was a week ago when I could publish. However, I still get the same error message:
"Can’t create the file “shapeimage1_link0.png.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges."
With so many people having the same issues, I believe that it is a problem with iWeb and the new OS update. I am at a loss to what else to try to fix the problem. In all my readings of other problems, I can't find one person who has been able to work around this error message.
Does anyone have a different opinion? Any other solutions?
As a temporary soulution, I have been making minor changes to my server website via Macromedia Contribute. With Contribute I can make changes to what I published last week that is now uploaded to a server. However, this is not a long term solution. Contribute has a 30 demo program.

Hello,
I have been having a problem with the error message that reads:
"Can’t create the file “shapeimage1_link0.png.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges."
I was under the impression that it was a problem with the new update 1.1.2. However, if I delete about 4 blog entries, I can publish again.
I have only about 70 entries. As a test, I changed the excerpt length (in the inspector, click on RSS) to be much shorter (I had it on the longest setting). Now I can publish all my blog entries. It seems like there is an issue in the length of blog entries. It seems that the file that iWeb is having difficulty publishing is the image file that shows all your blog entries. It must not be able to be too big of a file.
Thanks for all the help. This forum is great.

  • Unexpected Publishing Problems

I have been using iWeb for almost two months with no publishing problems. I publish to a folder then ftp it to my yahoo server. However, last night I began to experience publishing problems. iWeb publishes just the first five pages of my site then I get a message that an unexpected error occurred. No other clues as to why it could be happening.
The last change I made was an adding a podcast. I deleted that podcast thinking that maybe iWeb didn't like the taste of it and tried to publish but it still won't work. I've tried about 10 times, with my screen saver turned off, battery charger plugged in, and no other apps running.
    Please help me!

    G4 17 inch Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Here's the latest...
I realized that iWeb stopped publishing at the same page (I have 30+ pages on my site. It would always stop at the fifth one). So, I rearranged the order of that page, dragging it down to the very bottom of my site list. When I went to publish to folder, iWeb published everything then stopped again at that specific page. So here I thought I had isolated the issue.
I created a new site and dragged the problematic page into it. I then created a brand new page in my main site and copy/pasted the old content into it. Ergo: a whole new page. I went to publish with iWeb cranking along nicely until it got to the NEW version of that page and then it crapped out. Again.
I am guessing that one of the images (or who knows what, really) is messing with iWeb's fragile ego. I am going to reconstruct the page with brand new copies of the images that were on it. Images, by the way, that published fine for almost a month and that I didn't alter at all.
Wish me luck all. I'll keep you posted.

  • I can not publish my iweb site to moblie me

I had originally written and published a site with no problems.
However since then I tried to publish my changes and the iweb would show up as "not responding"
I tried other avenues to change my site which at first worked then failed so I deleted the site amd tried to start over thinking that may solve the issue.
It still will not publish merely stops reponding
Just to clarify - I found that I was able to make changes by publishing the iweb to a folder and then uploading the altered files to mobile me. This worked fine to start with but then I added some hyperlinks then uploaded the replacement html pages again - this caused the whole layout to change. This is the reason why I basically deleted the site.
I can still not publish my site now - same problem when I click the publish or publish all it freezes!

    Hello Frank,
The good thing of all your efforts is that you could determine the problem to iWeb.
    Frank Jacob wrote:
... come on apple get it together!
Well, there are at least 2 more well known issues that you didn't verify yet, at least I didn't see it in your post.
i get a portion of the files published only.
This is a clue to these 2 issues: a wrong filename or a problematic widget.
Go back in history to the point where you had your last successful 'Publish'
Have a good look at the filenames of the pages you created since then.
Is a very big chance there is a "wrong" character in the name or 2 spaces..
With a little bit of luck, when you do a Publish, you can see iWeb hanging on the name
of the problematic page (not always).
If it isn't the filename, try selectively remove widgets and do a Publish.
The moment Publish works, you've found the villain.
As this tip involves deleting things, make a backup of your domain file first.
Let me know if these tips don't apply to your situation.
I still have one radical solution at hand.
    Kind regards,

  • Publishing using iWeb

When I was looking for ways to publish site created in iWeb, I learned of applications such as Fetch, Cyberduck, and Transmit. Without .Mac or MobileMe, I thought I needed to publish to a folder on the desktop and use those applications to publish to a server.
However, I think this works too. I am not exactly sure if this was mentioned somewhere else but I am going to post it anyway. It might only work with some servers.
    1. Open Finders
    2. On Finders menu: Go > Connect to Server or Command + K
    3. Insert server address and connect
    4. Open iWeb
    5. On iWeb menu: File > Publish to a Folder
    6. Choose the web folder in the server
    7. Enter your URL
    8. Publish

    It's not the same?
You publish to a server, regardless what or where it is. The OP has a useraccount on that server.
To connect to that account he uses smb://. I don't know if it works over the internet or that it is local only. I use it to connect to a PC in VirtualBox.
The account mounts as a folder on the desktop.
Similar to mounting your iDisk and publish to a folder.
So the OP is publishing directly to the server.
That's it. A folder on the desktop. Publish to that folder.
If you really do have external server space, you would have had to purchase both a domain name and hosting space and you would then have to publish from iWeb to a folder and then upload using either Cyberduck or Transmit as I have stated previously.
This is irrelevant info. Also, no one has the obligation to buy a domainname.
But then, I have a domainname and publish to a folder on my computer, which happen to be the Sites folder in my Home directory. I also publish to /Library/Webserver/Documents/ and to /Web/Internet/ which contains folders I use with several subdomain.
Frankly, I think I'm rather knowledgeable.
But then, I could be wrong.

  • Do not have privileges to save and publish on iWeb :(

I am a newer employee at my company and we publish podcasts. Unfortunately, my iMac account can not publish to iWeb. Here are the messages I recieve when I try to publish... first:
    SAVE FAILED
You do not have permission to make changes to that file
    Then it says:
    PUBLISH ERROR:
An Error occured while publishing "The File name"
What is the problem? I also cannot save the uploaded podcast either. I have talked to the Mac people and they are stumped... they tell me I have to remove and reinstall Mac OSX, wiping out my hardrive in process.
I was able to post podcasts on the previous employee's account on this computer, but I had to clear out all of the old podcasts (thanks to a tech support mistake) to do so, and I am fearful of having that happening again. Thanks

Have you set the .Mac preferences in your System preferences to the other account and the correct password?

  • IWeb won't open and other related problems ....

I saw other posts regarding this but not sure if there is a fix
    that works.
I worked in iWeb all day yesterday. This morning, I cannot open iWeb 08.
When I try, it says "iweb can't open "xxxx.html" file"
(this is a file I created yesterday)
So I searched and i found the Domain.sites2 file in the
    User/library/application support/... folder,
but when i double click to open i get this message:
    Cannot open file «~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2».
And I don't see any of the new pages i built in yesterday anywhere.
I was saving my work every 10 minutes yesterday while i worked,
however I did not publish the pages I built, I just saved them.
    I do not have a backup,(my bad)
    can someone please advise?
    thanks!

Unless you choose otherwise, iWeb builds all your sites on one domain file.
For those of us who have more than one or two sites its more convenient to have your sites on separate domain files so that you can load them into iWeb and publish them separately.
    See...
    http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebMultiplewebsites.html
You'll see that you can manage multiple domain files using a third party application or do it manually.
    I use the latter method.
Splitting domain files is not a brilliant idea but most people seem to have no problems.
In future, I would advise you to start new sites from a new, blank domain file to avoid corruption.
    See....

    http://11mystics.com/2007/09/08/how-do-you-manage-multiple-domain-files-for-iweb /
Starting new sites on a blank domain file and keeping them in separate folders makes life a lot simpler if you do get corruption in any one.

  • Problems publishing my iweb to mobile me

HI, I apologise if anyone has answered this question before but I have not found a result which works for my problem. I have created a website via iweb. It seems to publish fine but when i go to my site after it publishes it, safari can not find my site. I am unable to click on the view site button (only directly after the upload when it asks me). For some reason, my site is not active?? I am logged into mobile me and using a trial account. I have an active gallery on mobile me but my site wont publish. It is frustrating me and I am not receiving a response from apple. Please please please can someone help me as I want to use iweb instead of other blog sites. Perhaps I should buy another domain? Would this work? Thank you

No, its not strange at all. When you set up a MobileMe account and publish a site from iWeb it publishes to your iDisk, which is your Apple server that host your site.
Your url for an iWeb published site to MobileMe will be http://web.me.com/username/sitename. You don't actually need the sitename if you only have one site, so as OT has said http://web.me.com/username.
No - reggie88.com is not your username, this is a domain name. www.reggie88.com is a domain name also, not a MobileMe username. Have you actually gone to a domain name registrar and registered a domain name? If you want to use a domain name with MobileMe, then you need to go and purchase one first from a domain name registrar.
No - iWeb does not tell you in iWeb that you username is www.reggie.com. The only way that iWeb will have this at the bottom, is if you have logged into your MobileMe account and gone to the Personal Domain name settings section and entered a personal domain into here. Log into your MobileMe account and check whether you have done this - this is the only reason why iWeb will display this.
Next question, do you actually own or have you purchased a domain name - reggie88.com? If you have, then you can use this domain with a MobileMe account, but there are other steps that you need to go through first to link the two.
In the meantime, find your site by entering the url http://web.me.com/username which in your case is probably going to be http://web.me.com/reggie88 and you should get to your site.

  • I changed web hosts and can't publish through iWeb SEO Tool or Rage Site Map Automator. Do I need to delete the old site map?

I switched to iPage hosting since Mobile Me is expiring. Also recently upgraded to OS X 10.7.3 and am using iWeb 3.0.4 for my web site design. I published directly to the FTP from iWeb but all title tags, meta tags have disappeared and I'm not showing up in Google or others. I tried publishing from iWeb SEO but it couldn't complete the process.
Should I first publish to a folder as I did before with Mobile Me, then delete all old sitemaps and start over with the Site Map Automator and then try to publish from the SEO tool? Will I lose the key words and meta tags that are already in iWeb SEO?
    Thanks!

The problem is that most tech support people don't understand how iWeb structures a site.
When a visitor types in "domain-name-com" the browser expects to find an index.html in the root folder on the server. In "normal" websites the index.html file is the first page of the site.
The iWeb index.html file is a redirect to the first, or landing, page of the site which is the one at the top of the left column in iWeb just below the site name.
    iWeb produces two index.html files.
One is outside of the folder containing the rest of the files and directs to - folder-name/home-page-name.html
The other one is inside the folder and directs to - home-page-name.html
You have two choices of how you upload the files since you are publishing to a local folder.
You can upload the whole folder plus the external index.html to the root folder on the server and the URL to any page will be...
    http://www.domain-name.com/site-name/page-name.html
If you upload the contents of the site folder, and not the folder or the external index.html, the URL will be...
    http://www.domain-name.com/page-name.html
See this page for more info and the warning about breaking the RSS feed....

I just want to thank everyone who post on here as your advice really does help.
I had problems publishing to iweb and the following suggestions made by you all helped me overcome the difficulties I was having. I am posting this so that others who may be having the same problems as I was may sort their iweb out too!
Obviously not all of these will help everyone and some people may disagree with what I have said but (touch wood) these ALL sorted out my iweb

    2. Do not use web counter/email me buttons

  • Can not publish to iWeb 3.0.2, maybe a sync problem, how to solve it?

My earlier MacbookPro died and I got a new one. Since then the iWeb does not work at all. I have a valid Mobileme subscription till spring next year, but iWeb does not show the existing sites (which are in the other computer) and does not start publishing and does not want to sync the existing sites into the new one. I can publish to Homepage, though.
The only action iWeb does is to take me to the Sync window, it confirms that I have a valid subscription, but thereafter nothing happens.
This must be a problem with sync settings, I gather, but where do I find it, and the key to solve it?
I do NOT want to sync all information from this computer to mobileme or viceversa, otherwise I loose info stored from the previous computers to my iDisk and mobileme spiderweb.

    tortuga wrote:

You need iWeb's Domain file from the other computer (your old MacBook Pro) — here's a diagram of where it usually resides:
...But since it "died" and presumably inaccessible, see this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
“Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but *there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb*. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.”
By the way, here's the normal procedure when your old computer has not died:
_iWeb: Modifying your site from another computer_
iWeb: Publish to your MobileMe account from more than one computer

  • IWeb still won't publish. At All. Tired and fed up

Hi, yesterday I posted a Help note saying that iWeb was refusing to publish my website. I got some advice back from James Tseng (thanks James) saying I should keep trying. Well, I have kept trying - this is a day later - and i still get the message: "An error occurred while publishing file “/Web/Sites/iWeb/Site” when trying to publish.
It's like buying a new car that refuses to start. Every time I complain to the garage, they say: "Well, try again in a few hours time!". And the worst thing is about the above Apple message is that it gives you no idea what the problem is.
I have read James' suggestion and read web.mac.com/mark8heaton/iWeb/PublishErrorsHelp/Publish%20Errors%20Help.htm and l have managed to publish to a folder. But I'm not confident about following the other suggestions as I'm not a technical person. I also run my own business and don't have the time to keep trying all these alternatives. I bought what I thought was a professional package - iLife (iWeb) and a year's .Mac subscription; I spent three working days working on the website. Yet nothing works. It just doesn't publish. At all. At any time of day or night (I got up in the middle of the night to try again - but got the same error message again).
What am I doing with this half-cookedbaked product and service? It's completely unacceptable.
Answers? Suggestions? Before I go back to the London Apple store and politely request a refund...?
    Thanks

    Hi
Please don't cry, I'm sure you'll get sorted out - there's plenty of people on this forum that can give you good advice.
If you only bought subscription to .Mac yesterday are you sure it's up and running? Try logging in to your account on
    http://www.mac.com/WebObjects/Welcome.woa/wa/login?aff=consumer&cty=US&lang=en
If you can't log in then you'll not be able to publish.
If you can log in you can get some info about your account by clicking on the little house symbol at the left of the blue header bar ... I'm looking at mine now and the system status window does state that today "Web Services were unavailable for 2 hour(s) to all .Mac Members." Doesn't say between what times though.
Your iDisk is basically your personal storage space on Apple's Servers (.Mac).
When you (finally) publish your iWeb site, the uploaded files will go into certain folders on iDisk.
The iDisk on your desktop is just a copy of the iDisk on .Mac
The two iDisks synchronise with each other whenever you make changes:
You can manually make changes and add files to iDisk on your desktop, and it will synchronise with the one on .Mac - you can set it to do this either manually or automatically.
    Hope that all makes sense.

If you are saying, that you published the book to  the iBooks review team and cannot be seem in the store.
Use your iTunes Connect account > Manage your Books to check on its status. It takes time so you need to allow a few days.

  • Strange Quicktime publishing problem in iWeb

I have a website where I have put up lots of different small Quicktime files. They all work fine except for one - that I can see when I am in iWeb, but that disappears after I publish my site to a folder and check it in a browser (either Safari or Firefox). I use iWeb to create my site and then I publish to a folder and then FTP. I have been using iWeb 1.1.2 in this manner for a while and have never encountered this. • Problem with iWeb 1.1.2 and Leopard

I just updated to Leopard, and everything is working fine, except that I cannot open iWeb properly now (version 1.1.2 - iLife '06). I'm going to update to '08 soon anyway now, but want to be able to open my current iWeb. My .Mac sites are still there, but they don't show up properly in iWeb (pages are blank) and I can't click on anything in the sites organizer sidebar (but pages are still listed). Is there a compatability issue? Do I need a certain amount of hard disk space? I thought maybe RAM, but other even larger applications than iWeb that I have open fine.
    I have Leopard 10.5.2, a 1.8 GHz processor and Quicktime 7.4.5.
    Can this be fixed?
