Publishing Problems with iWeb '08

I have two separate sites (one existing and one new) that I can not publish to MobileMe or to a folder. I can not figure out what the problem as they are very simple sites. I have deleted preferences, rebuilt permissions and reinstalled iWeb. Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome. The Console logs are below:

Try the following: delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, and clear out the User/Library/Caches/iWeb folder, reboot and try again.
Note: If you keep your domain file anywhere other than the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder you'll need to find it and double click on it to open in iWeb.

Have published iweb site for five years with no problems and just opened a new site and get -
    404: Page not found
This error is generated when there was no web page with the name you specified at the web site.-
    Troubleshooting suggestions:
Ensure the page you are linking to exists in the correct folder.
Check your file name for case sensitivity . Index.htm is not the same as index.htm!
Temporarily disable any rewrite rules by renaming your .htaccess file if it exists

One Apple tech started to fix Iweb and had to end session and the next said problem with hosting at Network Solutions as it published

Any help would be extremely appreciated as trying to fix this for about five weeks

It's a really bad idea to post your email address - it's an invitation to spam - and I've asked the Hosts to remove it. (Even though I've now noticed you mis-spelled it! - anyway, never post your address in a forum.)

  • Problem with iWeb publishing to IE

Hello, I am experiencing a problem with iWeb '08 publishing content to Internet Explorer. The images and web pages look fine in Safari and in Firefox, but a lot of the web page images are mirrored in IE, covering up large parts of the text. Please don't tell me I have to spend $79.00 on upgrading to iLife '09. I just upgraded my iWorks to '09, but would upgrading to '09 in this instance even be the answer? Please advise. I fear that I will alienating any of my IE web surfers. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello and welcome to the board.
IE is a terrible browser to render pages made with IWeb (I'm not sure upgrading to ILife 09 will fix your problem).
I decided to somewhat "alienate" my IE visitor by putting a message on my home page that recommend them to use a compatible browser. Check my page (using IE here: http://www.wesdotphotography.com/Home.html) and look at the message. Also if you use any other browser you will not see my message and will experience a better browsing. It is not the fault of IWeb but more like Microsoft not writing a proper browser. a lot of people will confirm my say.
Search this forum and you will see a lot of complaints about IE.
    Good luck

  • Problem with iWeb 09, after the publication in a local file.

*Subject: problem with iWeb 09, after the publication in a local file, i can't see my blog, nor my photos, but before that all was working fine.*
After the publication in the local file, I see all my pages, but there is a mistake on the page "Blog" where I just can see the top of my page, it's cut and I can't see it entirely, so I can't see the inputs while I should see 3 news or 3 inputs. And it's the same for the "Photos" page where the page is cut, I can't see the photos, and it's just written : "Put the slide show and subscribe".To finish, when I want to activate the comments, it doesn't work neither.
    Please help me.

I want to activate the comments, it doesn't work neither.
The comments feature is only available when you publish to the MobileMe server, so I don't think you can use it when you publish to a local file.

  • Problems with iWeb, after installing Lion

    Hi,
Ever since I installed Lion, I have been having problems with iWeb. Any changes I make in iWeb, and then publish to my site, via mobileme, are not saved, and the site reverts to the orignial site, after closing the website, and iWeb also loses the cahnges. I am unable to sue the Publish Site button, and the option for Publish Site changes is not available.
    I am using iLife 11.
These problems have only occurred since I installed Lion.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Problems with iWeb publishing to MobileMe

    Hi,
Did you have some problems since about four days on publishing with iWeb to MobileMe? In my case, when I publish my site - and I made just little changes - iWeb publish ALL the pages.
I early had this same problem, this spring, and it was a MobileMe problem; Apple just made a little update to the server and it was ok.
    I'm using iWeb'09
    Thanks

With a lot of media content have you considered other ways of adding movies or audio tracks that only require you uploading those file manually once and then linking to them. For movies this demo page has one possible method: Opening Item in a New, Precisely Sized Window. This demo page has 7 movies added that way. They don't load until the play button is selected. PhotoPresenter Animated Slideshow Themes
For audio you can use flash players or a flash jutebox. Roddy's site, iWeb for Musicians, has examples and how-to's for both. See the following pages: Music Players and the following 3 pages after it. See the Next Page button at the bottom.
I've got a couple of flash players on my demo page: Music Players.
There are many alternatives to having to load all the media each time you republish.

  • Problems with iWeb and mobile me

    Ciao everyone,
I've been having a ridiculous amount of problems with my mobile me account and my iweb. 2 weeks ago I was fine with my iweb and mobile me but all of a sudden my iweb would say it publish but it really doesn't publish. The I went to the mac store a couple of times and thought I would get answers but I didnt get any answer even though I had a couple of one to one visits with a couple of stores in NYC. So when i publish it it shows that it published in my www.me.com/idisk/iweb folder but then it doesn't show in my website. Then one guy told me that I should just recreate a new site but copy and past all the old information to the new one. Now it won't publish at all because I guess its a lot of information to publish at once. I get an error message saying error iweb was not able to publish please try again later. Any help?

    Hey you guys,
Thanks for the help, but I did try to publish all to my iweb and it didn't work. I do try to view my published website through the file/visit published site and for some reason only my intro page is there then when i go into the main page i get an error page. I also did go to my finder/Go/idisk/myidisk/iweb/site/iweb and saw my websites folder. Everything seems to be in it. I tried to take a screen shot of what is in my folder but I can't post pictures. In my folder I have a folder for gallery, index.html, site, shites.rss, and my website folder usvisualswebsite
Any other suggestions? This is really frustrating. I also created another test site with nothing in it and published it and it says it finishes publishing but the blank test page isn't there.

  • Index problems with iweb 09 and ftp uploads

    Hi,
after several issues with the site i eventually re-built and published with iweb 09's built in ftp.
The problem i have is that the published site goes in a folder called Site on my server but the index page that redirects to the welcome.html file doesn't direct it to inside the site folder. This means when i navigate to the site it comes up as welcome.html not found on this server.
I've resorted to filezilla again as when i publish to a local folder and upload it works ok.
I still want to resolve this as the iweb ftp will publish just the canges so is loads quicker.
I imagine the only way to resolve this is to change the settings in the iweb site settings page.
does anyone know if i need to tell iweb a different path other than the server url.
    EG; my url is www.thepaddyproject.co.uk
iweb put the site on the server ok (www.thepaddyproject.co.uk/Site
the index page needs to redirect to www.thepaddyproject.co.uk/Site/Welcome.html
    any help appreciated

  • Problem with iWeb '09

*Hi everyone, I hope someone will be able to help me.*
*I have just move from iLife 08 to iLife 09 just to be able to publish directly from iWeb.*
*I am very very disappointed so far.*
*First, I have that 'double domain name' problem that many people have experienced, secondly, the navigating menu on my web site that where working fine with the previous version simply don't appear with the new version and third, my photo gallery aren't there also.*
*Even with Cyberduck or Transmit or Fetch, it's the same problem.*
*Do I have to go back to the previous version. If so, It's a pure waste of money and time.*
*Maybe this software was not ready to be released.*
    Is there any hope?
    Thanks for any help.
    François

Not the most elegant solution, but here is a way around the double domain name problem that I've found:
You will need an external ftp client and a freeware program called massreplaceit
    1. Publish to a local folder.
    2. duplicate the local folder (IMPORTANT... to use the "publish changes only" in iWeb, you need to keep the original folder and duplicate it everytime you make changes)
    3. use mass replace it and have it search for any instance of sitename.com/sitename.com and change it to sitename.com... click accept changes
    4. upload the contents of the newly fixed folder (NOT THE FOLDER ITSELF) via ftp to your site.
    5. now all your permalinks AND RSS feeds will be correct.
It would be really easy for Apple to fix this though. If you didn't HAVE to enter a site name for your "main" site that can then simply upload to the root folder (public) of your web host.
    Anyway... hope this helps somebody.

  • 2 Problems with iWeb site

I have been having 2 problems with my iWeb published site on MobileMe.
    1. The Podcast search field does not display correctly - it appears as "two lines", not 1 (ie. the search icon i where it is supposed to be, but the search field is directly below that, not to the side) in Firefox (Mac & PC) and Internet Explorer. Is anyone else experiencing this problem, and if so, how can it be fixed?
    2. I work with video Podcasts, which can result in very large video files (upwards of 200MB each). In Firefox (Mac & PC) and Internet Explorer, the entire video has to load before any other part of the page (description, date, titles, etc.) loads. This usually takes about 15 to 20 minutes, which is way to long. Any advice on how to make the page load before the videos?

  • Statcounter problem with iweb

Hi, I use statcounter on some of my pages. I use iweb and have a .mac account. I usually sync things up from my local idisk. For the last 6 months I had no problem with the counter from statcounter. However, today I noticed that the counters all disappeared. I went and checked my idisk and when I tried opening up the files directly from my idisk with safari.....the counters were all there.
However, when I go to my page through safari or another browser....for some reason the counters don't appear. I went to the statcounter forum and it turns out that another person has the SAME EXACT problem and it started exactly the same time. Worked fine for her for over a year and the problem emerged today. She also uses iweb.
Does anyone know why this is happening? I tired turning off local idisk syncing, restarting, and then turning on the local idisk again but it didin't fix the problem. Is there a glitch in iweb or idisk going on? Or did I screw up some sort of html code? Help please!!!

A good place to start might be to get rid of the local iDisk altogether. Too many extra steps, if you ask me
There are two ways to handle accessing your iDisk.
    Method 1:
Turn on local copy of your iDisk in System Prefs, with or without automatic syncing.
If you publish your site via iWeb, now the updated pages exist online but the old pages are on your local iDisk. You need to sync (automatically or manually) to get the new pages on your local iDisk (on your computer).
Then you can open the updated files, make your html changes in Text Edit or whatever program, and SYNC AGAIN (automatically or manually) to update the online version of the site to match what you have just changed on your local iDisk
    Method 2:
Mount the iDisk when needed via the "Go" menu in Finder. This is the ONLINE VERSION of your iDisk, not a local copy. When you publish your site via iWeb, the changes INSTANTLY appear on the iDisk on your desktop. If you make html edits or other changes, they appear INSTANTLY online.
    I recommend Method 2 - much easier!!!

  • Application Express 3.1 + BI-Publisher + problem with formating numbers

    Hello together!
I use the Oracle BI Publisher Template Builder for Word (10.1.3.4) to generate RTF-Templates. I upload these templates in Oracle Apex (Advanced support-->BI-Publisher/OC4J as print service).
It works well, but I have a problem with formating numbers.
In Template Builder I define following number formats, for example: #.##0 for numbers like 1.454.234 and #.##0,00 for numbers like 54,80
In Template-Builder Preview it looks well.
But whatever I do, in use with Oracle Apex dots and comma are allready interchances in the printout.
    That means,
    1.454.234 become 1,454,234 in PDF-Report
    54,80 become 54.80 in PDF-Report
Other than that, the layout is exactly the same like in Template Builder defined.
    What's wrong?
Do I have to change any country parameter?
    Juliane

I also had the same problem. I tried with normal formating of 99g99g999d99 instead of ##,##,##0.00 and it has resulted correct way.

  • Problem with iWeb 1.1 photos solved... for me, at least

After updating, some of my photo pages were broken. Slideshow wouldn't work and clicking on a photo would not open a larger version. Some pages, however, did work. After hours of trying to figure this all out, I finally narrowed the problem down. If the page had an apostrophe in the title, it was broken (e.g.:Tyler's Party). If it did not, it worked. These titles worked in the earlier version. Simply deleting one punctuation mark magically made the pages work again. If you are having this problem check this or other punctuation in the titles.

I had the exact same problem and as others have suggested, the apostrophe in the page name could be the culprit of the problem. For me, that was the problem. I had a page named "Dog's day at the beach" and that worked just fine in iWeb 1.0.1. Now with iWeb 1.1, I had to rename is "Dog day at the beach" which luckily has a similar meaning given the context of my photos and when I took it.
A bit bizarre how such a simple apostrophe could escape Apple's iWeb engineers.
I hope this will be fixed in a soon-to-come update.

  • Problems with iWeb displays on Firefox and IE

My iWeb pages look fine on Safari but not on Firefox or IE - both those sites show graphics overlapping text, extra spaces between text, missing boxes etc. My site is theFOWL.org - it's a site for a non-profit library organization. It used to work fine on Firefox and IE but not now. Thanks for any help

Your site looks OK to me in Firefox. This browser does have a problem with image effects such as drop shadows and there are a few ways to overcome this...

The main thing with IE is to make sure that none of the text boxes and objects are touching or overlapping by doing a Command A on the iWeb page.

  • End of MobileMe and consequent problems with iWeb.

It  appears that MobileMe will end next year. One will have to find an alternative means of publishing a blog.
iWeb claims to have the means of posting a blog as an ftp feed to a commercial web hosting service. However, there are snags.
I have been doing some testing and am able to publish a new site to the web. But, only the front page appears. Additions, such as photo galleries do not get posted, although iWeb appears to prepare the page for publication.
I am using the latest version of iWeb. My domain is registered by GoDaddy and the I use 1and1.
As you can see, I am probably not using the jargon correctly. One of the merits of iWeb and MobileMe was that one could just publish and not fuss with the technical stuff.
Are there any suggestions as to how I can overcome my difficulties and can anyone explain why iWeb does not perform properly when publishing to an ftp server?
    Cordially,
    David Amies

@David: your site loads just fine. All the right things are there. Clear your browser cache as others suggested.
If the FTP approach gives you trouble, try consider hosting it yourself, export the page locally onto your Mac, enable webSharing to host the site form your Mac and see how it works for ya. Good internet upload speeds are required.
I've actually just finished moving all my stuff from MobileMe back to my mac. My COmcast connection is decent enough to allow for a webhost setup.
I publish my site locally to my Sites folder in my user folder
I set up Apache to point to it directly - there are nice instructions available
I signed up for an account and domain for free @ dyndns.com - they also periodically watch for your dynamic IP address, so your DNS will always get resolved and your domain.dyndns.org link will always point to your Mac's IP address. Speed isn't as stellar as professional hosting services, but is sufficient and I absolutely love the $0 price tag on this. I'm not using any web hosting services from now on. DynDNS is good enough and they've been around forever too.
