Publishing RoboHelp 6

Hey Everyone,
I am new to this so i aplogize if this is a stupid
question...
Anyhow, I am working in RoboHelp 6 and have finished the
development/authoring of my first project. Anyhow, I have seleted
Microsoft HTML help as the primary layout. When i attempt to launch
the CHM file I get the error message "page cannot be displayed" in
my Internet Explorer browser. Any idea why? Any idea how to fix it?
Thanks,
Dave

Send me £1M or look under Authoring on my site.
You have chosen CHM as your primary output but if the help is
going to be accessed from a server, that is really the wrong
choice. You should be looking at webhelp. Whatever you use, make
sure your developers have agreed to it. The calls are different.

  • Publishing RoboHelp output to MOSS

I'd like to develop policies and procedures with RoboHelp HTML 7.
Presently, the plan is to author these documents in RH, generate the PDF files and upload the PDF files into a MOSS library.
Ideally, I'd rather publish in WebHelp (or FlashHelp) and upload into MOSS. Is this realistic?
    Thank you.

    Hi Mark
I have a request if you are able.
Can you perhaps chat with those involved and see if you are able to derive any fairly generic instructions for doing this? It seems to surface from time to time and it would be ever helpful if we had something we could steer users to in order to provide some form of assistance.
    Thanks... Rick

  • Publishing RoboHelp projects using third-party app and RH command prompt

    Hi -
I am curious to know if anyone has used the RH command prompt to publish a RH project using a third party application - i.e. homegrown app?
I'm thinking of creating an application that will allow RH users register their projects for knowledge management purposes. It would act somewhat like an LMS where users could post their dev files on a network share. When ready to review with the customer, the would use the registration tool to push the project to preview. The app would call the RH command prompt using a server side technology, in my case .NET, and supply the necessary arguments and push the generated project to preview. Once it had been reviewed and ready, then the user could push to production.
Any thoughts on this - reasons why this wouldn't work, good, bad, ugly, alternatives? - all constructive comments welcome
    Thanks

    Hi there
I see some flaws with that.

Dev files need to always be local. Placing on a network share for the purposes of using RoboHelp to compile or generate is risky business and may explode in your face. LMS to me means Learning Management System. Those are typically used for eLearning. RoboHelp does help systems. Captivate does eLearning. So you are losing me with your LMS reference.
When ready to review with the customer, the would use the registration tool to push the project to preview.
I'm lost. What "registration tool" are you even referring to here? Or is this what you are planning on creating and that's what you are choosing to call it?
The app would call the RH command prompt using a server side technology, in my case .NET, and supply the necessary arguments and push the generated project to preview.
There is no "preview" of projects. Preview of individual topics, sure. But not for a project. There is only compile or generate to create the final output.
Once it had been reviewed and ready, then the user could push to production.
Sounds like what one might typically accomplish using RoboHelp in a typical development cycle. You edit content on the local hard drive. If a review is needed, you compile or generate the content and place the output on a server. After approval is complete the content is then copied to the production server.
Sure sounds like you are attempting to reinvent the wheel in many situations here.

  • Publishing RoboHelp 9 files into SharePoint 2010

Does anyone know why I continually get an invalid SharePoint path when trying to publish from "Robo into SharePoint? Do I need to choose a particular workspace template when I am in SharePoint?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Don't copy the URL from the web window that you open to access the intended SharePoint directory - seeing as that has a bunch of view information in the URL:
For example - here's a URL NOT to use:
    http://foo.abc.com/teams/infrastructure/Doc%20Pipeline%20and%20Edit/Forms/AllItems.aspx?Ro otFolder=%2fteams%2finfrastructure%2fDoc%20Pipeline%20and%20Edit%2fRoboHelp%2fVPN&FolderCT ID=&View=%7bA1B4DCFF%2d9FC9%2d4565%2d8779%2dB0F10BAFFA30%7d
Instead, the URL should be as follows - except take out the "%20" for spaces - as well as the "http:" part
    http://foo.abc.com/teams/infrastructure/Doc%20Pipeline%20and%20Edit/RoboHelp/VPN/
    so - ultimately
    //foo.abc.com/teams/infrastructure/Doc Pipeline and Edit/RoboHelp/VPN/
If you're unsure exactly what the path should be, create the desired destination folder on your sharepoint site.
Copy one file into the desired destination folder.
Right click on the file and select "Properties"
Copy the Address (URL) that you see in the Properties window.
Use that as the URL in the RoboHelp output Properties > Publish field, and then remove the "http:", any "%20" space characters (easier just to leave spaces out of your sharepoint directory names), and the file name at the end of the path (so just the directory path remains, not the full directory path/filename).

  • RoboEngine is not publishing RoboHelp Projects

    Hi All,
We are currently using RoboHelp 2.0 that is installed on Windows NT box. We wanted to migrate our RoboHelp Projects from NT box to Windows 2003 Server.
I have installed RoboEngine Configuration Manager 2.00.082 on Windows 2003 server but not able to publish the existing projects.
Do you have any idea what are the steps need to be followed to configure the existing projects?
Is there any settings we need to change for Windows 2003 server? Is Windows 2003 server supports RoboHelp 2.0?
Kindly help me to fix that issue.
    Thanks for your help.
    M.P.

Hi Mahesh and welcome to the RH community.
That sure is an old copy of RH. Adobe is currently up to version 8 of both the RH Client and RH Server applications so I'm not surprised if things don't work as you'd expect on Windows Server 2003.

  • Publishing RoboHelp

I am using RoboHelp HTML 6 using WebHelp for a Single Source
Layout. I know that the layout has to be converted to WebHelp Pro
in order for it to be a webpage, but my IS department is trying to
publish this file to the server and are saying that they are unable
    to do so.
They contacted Adobe and they were told that they needed to
buy additional software to publish the Help File. However, when
they called back they were told that what we had is sufficient.
Can someone please tell me if additional software is needed
to publish the Help File to our server? If what we have is enough,
could someone layout the steps to publishing this file?
    Thank You

You are not "dense" mtricomi. We were all in your shoes at
some point in the past so that is one word you won't find in there
    here parts.
If you have set your single source layout to Webhelp, you
just go through the process of "generating" your output. Part of
this process allows to "publish" the output to a set location. This
can be a server location. The webhelp output contains a file
(normally named projectname.htm - where projectname is the name of
your project). This is the file to which your users link to.
As an aside, can you tell your IS Department the next time
they want something from you that you have no time for their
"little" affairs. Better still, kick butt. Just a thought!

  • Published RoboHelp not displaying edited content.

Today I opened an existing .xpj file and added two topics. I saved all changes. However, once I published the .xpj using WebHelp_Pro (Primary Layout) the HTML file and viewer does not display the new topics. Also, although i have edited the .xpj file, and was able to save all, the date of last update is displaying when it was originally created (not the current date that it was edited).
    Please help
    Thanks

You’re using the “Pro” output because you’re publishing to a RH Server instance, right? If not, don’t use the “Pro” flavours; if you are, did you clear all the output files off the web server to ensure that what you generated was what you published? Any source control at play here? Did you need to add the topics to your ToC to see them?

  • Publishing RoboHelp 8 Project

I've downloaded a trial version of RoboHelp 8 and I've
created a Web Application Help project. It looks good and runs well
when I generate it. My question is, how do I get the files I
created onto a server? I have in a folder called "WebHelpTest1"
that resides in the "My RoboHelp Projects" folder. Do I put the
entire WebHelpTest1 folder onto the server? Probably not...any help
    is appreciated. Thanks

    Hi there
Indeed the entire contents of your output folder should be
    copied to the server.

  • Is there a way to create a site map of all RoboHelp topics in a published project?

My company uses an external search of our published RoboHelp options (as well as the internal; the external search covers all projects instead of a single one). We're looking to change search programs, but according to our web developer a lot of searches have issues finding the topics inside the published projects because of the way it links to topics using Javascript.
I think I know the answer to this question, considering it hasn't come up in any of my searches, but in case I need a second cup of coffee -- is there a site map or listing of links within a RoboHelp project that includes all the topics? Alternately, does anyone know of a service or program that can easily create a site map from a RH project? For reference, we're using RoboHelp 9.
    Thanks!

    Look in Tools > Reports.
Some can be saved as files. Others you can copy and paste into a text file.

  • RoboHelp 9 Crashes When Publishing From Framemaker 10

    Hello,
I am attempting to publish my Framemaker 10 doc in Robohelp 9.  When I click publish, RoboHelp launches, and then quickly crashes while it says it's "loading components".
Both products are part of the TechComm Suite.
Anyway, it doesn't matter if I choose HTML Help, Adobe Air, WebHelp, for Flashhelp...this problem surfaces in exactly the same way.
The installation and output folders are all located on my local machine.
I can go to my Robohelp project and import my FM Book and get it to generate from there, but the problem with this approach is that it imports all of the xref references with each TOC entry, so this is unusable and impractical to edit by hand.
Is there an error log saved somewhere, so I can get more details on when exactly the application is crashing?

Not sure what you mean if you go into RH and import it – that’s basically what publishing is doing in FM. Have you set up a project and saved off the setting in the .isf file first? I believe you need to do that before the publish option really works.

  • RoboHelp 7 for Word versus RoboHelp 7 HTML

RoboHelp 7 for Word versus RoboHelp 7 HTML
Can someone explain very simply when and why you use one but
not the other? I'm a little confused. We have RoboHelp 7 Server
installed and I think using RoboHelp 7 is the way to go, and I know
the server does allow to track usage, frequently viewed, etc. I
guess I just don't understand the purpose of RoboHelp 7 for Word -
what it is used for and it's capabilities when compared to HTML.
I have tons of pages of process documentation created from
Word. I need to make these available online thru RoboHelp, so am
just looking at different ways to distribute and explore all my
options. We're currently experiencing difficulties in publishing
RoboHelp HTML projects to the server.
    Thanks!

    Hi hughbetcha
If your output is going to be HTML based (and if you have
RoboHelp Server, it will be) then I would recommend RoboHelp HTML
    hands down.

  • Publishing Problem - whtopic.js

    Hello,
I am having issues publishing my project. I have tried our 2 different servers and have run into the same problem on both.
After generating the project and clicking "publish" RoboHelp does its thing until it comes to the file "whtopic.js"
At which point the publishing process stalls out for a couple minutes until this error pops up:
I am able to publish a different project to our servers, so I'm assuming the issue is in the java script file for this particular project.
I know very little about java script so I'm hoping someone can provide some troubleshooting advice. What could have caused this problem and is there a fix?
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Chris McQuillen

    Hi Chris
I forget, are you using RoboHelp Server?
If not, perhaps that's the issue. You are publishing from FlashHelp Pro.

  • Generate a WebHelp bypassing the RoboHelp UI

    Hello,
I work with documentation which is developed and maintained in DITA format. We use DITA Open Toolkit to transform the xml files into a package that contains:
HTML files generated from DITA topics,
    an HHK File,
    an HHC File,
    an HHP File,
two CSS files, one for left-to-right, the other for right-to-left languages.
I am wondering whether it would be possible to create a WebHelp project in RoboHelp 9 and generate output ready to be deployed on a web server without involving the user. All the information needed should be in the xml, and I am looking for a way to automate the whole process. So, would it be possible to use any kind of application (.NET, Windows bat, some kind of script) that would perform all the necessary steps using RoboHelp 9?
Right now, the user in our setup just runs one command to assemble the xml files and transform them into "html help." But the help is still missing all the JavaScripts that make it a WebHelp application, so the user then creates a new WebHelp project in RoboHelp, imports the files and generates the output. Any advice on optimizing the process would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Pawel

    Hi,
With scripting, you can automatically create and publish RoboHelp projects. It will take some effort to create such a script, but it may save you from having to manually create and publish projects. You can also let RoboHelp run a script from the command line, so you can let the script take care of it in one go. See http://help.adobe.com/en_US/robohelp/robohtml/WS98613C7C-EF5B-48e9-A91A-D2AABB882687.html for more information.

  • RoboHelp 9 - Self-authoring Features?

I've developed a number of online Help solutions for a company-internal audience and there have been a few requests to create a more Wiki-like interface/experience where the user base or audience may be able to self-author some of the content (or in the most liberal scenario . . . upload new content).
Other than what RoboHelp Server might provide in the way of commenting, has anyone else had to deal with the burgeoning social technology aspects of their online Help and offered any form of self-authoring to its users.
As it is, we have a separate enterprise-wide Wiki where we're hoping users can engage in discussions and the like, but then look to the published RoboHelp environment for the more vetted and "final" word on relevant user assistance content.
Curious if anyone knows something that might help or perhaps share their own experiences/solutions?
    Cheers,
    Michael

    Hi Kurt
RoboHelp 9? According to my records it was released in July of 2000.
But my guess is that you are asking about the "Adobe RoboHelp 9". Only Adobe can say for sure when it will be released. I do hear occasional whispers that they may be working on a new version.
Even those of us that bear Community Professional near our name find out the same time everyone else does when a product will be released. And we are often caught by surprise with the speed in which it is announced.

  • RoboHelp or RoboServer Issue?

    Hello
Using RoboServer 8 and publishing RoboHelp 8 (in FlashHelpPro format to the server).  Recently, the server started crashing every day in our production environment.  This error was provided by our NetOps team.  Anyone know why this error would display?  Once we restart the server the help comes back up in production.  It just started last Thursday (June 14th) and has been happening daily.  Any help you can provide would be appreciated.  Thanks, Lana

    Hi Lana.
I doubt whether the log file will mean much to anyone here. Was there any change that took place just before the server that could be the cause of the crashes? Or was there any new or amended projects published to it? Do you have a Test environment? If you have, are you seeing the same issue there? Another thing to check is if the issue is being caused by a CSH call. See if this link sheds any light.
