Publishing text as image problems

I read this nifty article by apple on how to "trick" iWeb into publishing certain text boxes as images. To do so, just give the text box a shadow and make it opacity like 5%. In my case, I have a few fonts on my site that aren't noticed by all computers so I need to publish those boxes as an image. I did that trick, and it worked as to publish as a text box, however when viewing on a PC via Internet Explorer, all of those text boxes that I did that trick for now have a so called "shadow", but they are all solid (100% opacity). No matter what I change the opacity or offset values to in iWeb I get the same result. Any suggestions?
To see what I am talking about view http://www.alotusbirth.com on a PC with internet explorer (I am assuming all PC's because it did it on my home PC and work PC, but haven't tried anywhere else though). The home pages' title was not published as a text, but all other pages' titles were. (Everything is displayed fine on a mac/safari)

One way around that is to not use a drop shadow but just select and copy the text box. Next open Preview and select File->New from Clipboard. In the window go to the Sidebar pane and drag the icon into iWeb and replace the text box with new image. That creates an image of the text. More about the process is described in Old Toad's Tutorial #7 - Converting Photos w/Frames, Drop Shadows and/or Reflections into a Single JPG Image.
The process works with photos that you've added frames or drop shadows or reflections to.

  • Publish Text as Image or lock font

    I am new to dreamweaver, I use to use yahoo sitebuilder and
    one of my favorite features was called "publish text as image" it
    let you put text in any font and it would make it an image so even
    if someone looking at the site didn't have the font it would stay
    the same. Is there any sort of feature like this in dreamweaver? I
    want to use Stoen Saris font Thanks

    > like so if i go into photoshop and change the text it'll
    update in
    > dreamweaver?
    Only if you save or export or whatever from photoshop and
    change the actual
    image file that's in the Site's local site folder.
    If you used Fireworks, yes it does have a much tighter
    integration.
    After placing the image, later on you could select the image
    in the page in
    dreamweaver, click "edit in fireworks" and it would open and
    you could make
    changed in fireworks. Then press a "done" button and
    dreamweaver comes up
    showing the modified image.
    question- this is just for headlines and short bits of text,
    right?
    You don't want to put paragraphs or entire pages of text into
    image text
    right?

  • Text overlapping image problem in IE6

    A colleague has sent me the following screen print:
    www.pcave.plus.com/temp/screendump_overlap_problem.jpg
    When I look at the main site
    www.ski-monterosa.com in
    FF, IE7 and Opera, it all looks fine, but there is obviously
    something going on and I'm not sure what it might be.
    Could some kind soul take a look and offer a little advice?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Your use of layers is the reason for the overlap. See this
    page for a
    simplified example -
    http://www.great-web-sights.com/g_layer-overlap.asp
    In general you should never use absolutely positioned
    containers for text on
    your page.

  • Problem in converting text to image.

    Hi I am trying to convert a text to image. The code for the same is pasted below. The problem is how do I change the background color. No matter what color I give with Graphics2D object, the background is always black. I want a white background.
    public class TextToImg1
    public static void main(String args[])
    try
    int width = 400;
    int height = 400;
    BufferedImage bimage = new BufferedImage(width, height, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
    Graphics2D g2D = bimage.createGraphics();
    g2D.drawString("This is the sample page to convert text to image.",100,100);
    g2D.setBackground(Color.WHITE);
    g2D.setColor(Color.WHITE);
    File f = new File ("anImage.jpg");
    ImageIO.write (bimage, "jpeg", f);
    catch(Exception exception)
    System.err.println(exception.getMessage());
    }

    Probably because you didn't draw the background. Use the fillRect(...) method to paint the background using the color your want.

  • Text or images?

    I've read lots of posts about png images. I suspect that I may have this problem as my sites aren't showing up as much as I'd like in Google. All 3 sites have been verified and have sitemaps. How do I determine if png is the problem and how do I fix it? All three sites are published to my mac.com.
    Domain name www.buildingimages.com is forwarded to
    http://web.mac.com/barbcooper/iWeb/buildingimages
    Domain name www.iidmaterialhandling.com is forwarded to
    http://web.mac.com/barbcooper/iWeb/iid
    http://web.mac.com/barbcooper/iWeb/Site is published without any forwarding.
    Thanks for any help.

    Barb,
    You can tell if your text has been shifted to an image by visiting the website (in your browser) and trying to select the text. If you can select the text, then it is text; if not, it is an image.
    The title of your second site's home page is an image, the others I checked are not. And in the case of the second site (iidmaterialhandling.com) I don't think that's a big deal, since the name is also in the text.
    I'm not an expert on registering on Google, so someone else will have to give you some pointers, but I don't think that the text to image issue is part of your problem here.

  • Help Me Understand: Readabilty of Text in Images

    I make a webcomic (CarpeChaos.com for examples), so I produce a lot of images with a fairly extensive amount of text in them. I want to make sure the fonts in those images are as readable as possible. My experience on this topic is just someone who has read a lot about it online, I'm not professionally trained, so some of my assumptions may be flawed, please point them out. I'm using CS2, but my copy of CS5 is in the mail.
    Photoshop is the core of our workflow and our PSDs are set up as several layers of image data and several layers of text. We don't rasterize the text at any point. The text is almost exclusively high contrast grayscale (aka black text on white backgrounds). Each PSD is 2880x3240, but we publish at 960x1080 AND 640x720.
    What I know about font rendering tells me that fonts are rendered differently at different sizes, and that scaling rasterized text in images smears them into horrible messes.
    With that in mind, I've been a bit of a fascist when it comes to our image mastering process. I never flatten text layers, nor rasterize the text in any other way. My assumption is that Save For Web... in Photoshop does the smart thing by resizing first, then rasterizing the text. Therefore, I use the "Image Size" tab in Save For Web dialog to produce the right sized images. Our jpeg compression is usually between 67% and 87%, although on rare occasion it can go as high as 100%. This produces rather crisp text with about as good of readability as I can hope for in a jpeg.
    Unfortunately, this process takes a fair amount of time, and I'd love to dump all our PSDs into a script that generates the jpegs automatically. I've been playing around with File-->Scripts-->Image Processor but haven't yet gotten results that match doing it by hand. And frankly, from the dialogs, I don't trust that it respects my vector fonts as much as I do.
    I'm not opposed to switching image formats to png or something else, it just needs to be web friendly.
    So I have two questions for the wisdom of this forum:
    1) Do you know any way that I can improve readability over what I'm currently doing?
    2) How can I get the same results with less work? Is there a way I can get optimal results from an image processor script?

    I often use layer styles to make text more readable.  Drop shadow and outer glow are often very useful for this, and they don't have to be turned all the way up to greatly increase readability.
    For example, for the back jacket of a book, I was putting some light text on a mostly dark background consisting of an image with a lot of stars in it.  The letters occasionally overlaid or nearly overlaid stars, and this became kind of distracting.  Some drop shadow isolated the text and kept the appearance of the star field intact.

  • Possible to scan a document into Acrobat XPro,then replace part of that PDF with text or image file?

    Hi everyone,
    Is it possible first to  scan a paper document into Acrobat X Pro, and then to replace a "pane" or box within that PDF with a text or image file?
    Would it require  SDK and Javascript?
    Thanks,
    Rick Weinhaus

    CtDave and others:
    Here's the problem in more detail.
    I am a physician and I already have the ability to incorporate paper-based
    documents into an electronic health record (EHR) by scanning them and
    saving them as PDFs.  The documents are paper patient encounter forms with
    a different box or 'pane' for each category of data.   Each box has a fixed
    location on the paper form.
    There are three situations, however, where I want to have the option to
    overwrite certain boxes of the PDF with data generated by methods other
    than scanning.
    1) Insert text macros with variable fields using the electronic health
    record's software.
    2) Insert a drawing available as a pre-existing JPG or generated by using a
    tablet.
    3) Insert text generated using Dragon Naturally Speaking.
    For efficient office workflow, in all three cases the text or image to be
    inserted into the box or 'pane' in the PDF needs to be generated while I am
    still seeing the patient -- that is -- before the paper form has been
    scanned and converted to a PDF.
    The sticky note tool is one option, but I would want to be able to modify
    the default size of the sticky note so that it corresponded exactly to the
    size of the box it was 'overwriting.'  I can't figure out how to do this?
    Could it be done using scripting?
    Furthermore, I would want the sticky notes to automatically display when
    the PDF was opened, so that a hover would close rather than open them.  This
    sticky note method would have the advantage of allowing the user to toggle
    back and forth between inserted data and any original handwritten text.
    Any thoughts?
    Rick

  • Printing text and images together on a single page (printjob)

    Hello all,
    how am I able to print both text and images on the same page (defined by one printjob), using the javax.print API?
    It seems that one printjob (one page) can have only one flavor, that is text, or GIF, or JPEG, etc. Since the majority of print jobs out there usually require text and graphics on the same sheet this seems a bit strange.
    I have resorted on creating a PDF file through the iText library, and then printing by converting to GIF (quality is significantly reduced though, not an option), or by using the Acrobat Reader command line from java (looks dangerous for batch printing). My printer does not support printing directly using the PDF flavour.
    So, I solved the problem by converting to PDF, but printing is still cumbersome. Any other ideas?
    Thank you for your time,
    Ari.

    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Stretched text and image with FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE after Air player update

    One of my Air applications uses StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE to switch to full screen during the presentation of some sheets.
    Everything worked fine untill some users reported a streching of texts and images in the sheets.
    It turns out that the problem occurs after an update from the Adobe Air Player to 3.1 from  2.7.
    The first screen shots shows the text as it should be, the second screen shot shows the text after the update of the Air Player.
    The code used to go into the Full Screen mode is:
        public function setFullScreenInteractive(fullScreenWidth:int = Constants.INT_SCREEN_WIDTH_SMALL, fullScreenHeight:int = Constants.INT_SCREEN_HEIGHT_SMALL):void
                             s.fullScreenSourceRect = new Rectangle(          0, 0, fullScreenWidth, fullScreenHeight);
            s.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE;
    with  Constants.INT_SCREEN_WIDTH_SMALL = 800 and  Constants.INT_SCREEN_HEIGHT_SMALL = 600.
    I can reproduce the problem on a couple of computers with Windows Xp but it's not happening on all the computers I've tested.
    Any idea how to fix this (without telling my users to Uninstall the current Air Player and reinstall the Air Player 2.7)?
    Regards,
    Bart

    Hi Bart,
    Unfortunately the correct screenshot link appears to broken.  Could you please open a new bug report on this over at bugbase.adobe.com?  Please post back with the URL so that others affected can add their comments and votes.  It would also help if we had a sample project/application that we can reproduce this issue with.  If you'd like to keep this private, please feel free to send it to me directly at [email protected]

  • Acrobat X Pro:  Accessibility Report says No Alt Text for image but there is

    I have added the alternate text for images on my pdf but the accessibility report is still giving me errors stating that there is no alternate text.  Does anyone have any idea why?  I have checked and the alt text is there.  I don't understand this.
    Thank you.

    I assume when you click on the error it is taking you to the location where the error is.  Not seeing the document it is hard to tell... do you have a multi-page document and when you click on the error does it take you to the location where that problem is?
    There are several things that could cause this problem.  The Figure or other tag that contains the alt text must have content. It cannot be an empty tag.
    It also cannot have another Tag inside of it containing the content.  There must be some actual content directly within the Tag with the alt text, not nested inside another Tag, if that makes any sense.
    Or, there may be another Figure Tag that has no content. That, too, will generate an error.
    If neither of those suggestions work, if you post the file I can probably find the problem.

  • Tables in Dreamweaver Vs Text and Image boxes in Golive?!!?

    I have built a website in GoLive and to edit a page you insert text boxes, images boxes, etc and then can move each one freely and easily by simply dragging it. It seems when I transferred the site to Dreamweaver it is now in a table with very little freedom of movement? It is all in cells, and seems restricting! Is this just Dreamweaver, or can I turn this optional view off???

    You are trapped between the smoke and mirrors of the basic approach that GL
    takes (I'm not trying to be pejorative here), and the "reality of HTML"
    approach that DW takes.
    What GL calls 'text boxes', 'image boxes', and other such usages, are really
    just absolutely positioned page elements that have been renamed so that you
    can grasp what they do more simply. In Dreamweaver these are called "AP
    divs", where the "AP" stands for "Absolutely Positioned", and the "divs"
    stands for
    tags.
    The reality is this - you cannot just move things around on the page without
    making them be absolutely positioned. This seems like the easy solution.
    The problem is that using absolutely positioned elements willy-nilly is just
    a bad approach to creating web pages.
    So, let me ask you - why are you migrating to Dreamweaver? If you don't
    have some familarity with HTML and CSS, and if you aren't inclined to
    acquire it, then you will be in for a VERY rough ride.

  • Disappearing text and image

    I created letterhead in Pages for my lil brothers film production company. Saved. Exported the document to Word. Sent it to him. So far so good. Looks great. Each time he opens the document in WORD and trie to alter the text by selecting and typing over it both the text and the graphics disappear.
    Is there any way to correct this? I really love the letterhead and have been having problems recreating it in other software.

    Thanks for a quick response. I see yr point. The thing is I am setting up a table cell editor and a renderer. It is easy to set up the editor with a combo box. For the renderer, I am using a default cell renderer and I want to make it look like a combo box as well. Since the default cell renderer extends JLabel, I do something like
    comboBoxRenderer = new DefaultTableCellRenderer();
    ImageIcon image = new ImageIcon("image/Play16.gif");
    comboBoxRenderer.setIcon(image);
    comboBoxRenderer.setHorizontalTextPosition(JLabel.LEADING);
    which does not get me the effect I want. I can put more pixels between the text and image using setIconTextGap. But it is not fool proof. I think I will try yr approach, but then it gets a little complicated. Would have been good if there is simpler way. I will appreciate yr thoughts

  • Facebook is not loading properly and all my text and images are lined up along the right side of the page. How can this get fixed to the way it use to be?

    Facebook is not loading properly and all my text and images are lined up along the right side of the page. How can this get fixed to the way it use to look?
    Everyone who logs into Facebook on my Firefox has this problem however if we use Internet Explorer - facebook looks normal.

    If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting "none" as a high value can cause issues like you described.
    * Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)
    *Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"

  • Photosmart D110 All-In-One Printer - Shadow image problem

    I have been having a problem with this printer, ever since we purchased it about 2 months ago, where it will print a shadow image of text or pictures on some documets but not others. It is specific and consistent in that it will print this shadow image on some documents every time and on other documents none of the time. I have a PC and a Mac and it doesn't matter which computer I use, only which document. Sometimes it is only a part of a document, like the computer generated part of an email where it says " this person at this time on this date wrote.." but the other text will be fine. It happens on some coloring pages but not others. I spent  2 hours on the support line yesterday; it's still doing it. She had me unplug it, take off the printer software and reinstall it, update software (on my Mac)  and it did not fix it.  Any ideas on what may be causing this & how to fix it? I like the printer but am about to return it because of this problem.  The printer we had been using was an HP C4280 and did not have this problem. I'd like to keep the printer if I can fix this problem.

    I'm having the same shadow imaging problem on my Deskjet F4580, so if anyone knows how to correct it please post.. I've reinstalled/updated the driver, disabled advanced features, and deslected "Enable HP Real Life Technoliges".

  • Dynamic text box, HTML Text with Image

    Hello Everyone,
    I am using Flash version 8. I have used the text tool and
    created a dynamic text box and have attached the UIScrollBar
    component to it. This text box is configured to allow the use of
    html text to be inputted to it. I have code that reads a file which
    contains a list of text files that I then read and place them into
    the text box. The user can use the scroll bar to scroll through all
    the text.
    I have created an image that is a picture of the tab portion
    of a file folder. On the tab I have place some text. This was all
    done in Photoshop. This tab image is used to separate the different
    stories in the text box. The image is save as a jpeg file
    Everything you have just read works with out any problems.
    Now for the problem!
    This image is only 20 pixels tall and the text is not very
    readable. As we all know the HTML tags are very limited in Flash 8.
    Ideally I would like to put the text and image in to the text
    box as I would normally do. Then place text on top of the image and
    have it all scroll properly with in the text box.
    I have taken the tab image and converted it in to a graph
    symbol and then put the text on top of the image. This looks good;
    however I don’t know how (or if it is even possible) to place
    the graphic symbol in to the text box at the correct place within
    the text.
    Does anyone have ideas on what may work? Remember that the
    image I am working with is only 20 pixels tall which is why the
    text quality on the image is so poor.
    Thank you all for any help you may provide,
    Steve

    Yes Tim I am using the <img> tag and I know that I
    can’t place text over the image. I have set the height and
    width to be the exact size of the image. However When you go to the
    webpage it will open the movie to the maximum size based on the
    resolution of your display; however I do maintain the aspect ratio
    of the movie. For testing I did set a fix size to the size of the
    movie. Sometimes the fix size (1000x750) looks better and sometimes
    a larger size (example 1280x1024). I believe that the main problem
    is the fact the size of the image is 670 pixels wide by 25 pixels
    high and of the 25 pixels the text is only 18 pixels tall. In
    Photoshop this makes it about a 1.75 point font. As you can see the
    real problem is that I don’t have enough pixels to make up
    the text. This is why I am looking for an alterative way to create
    the text.
    I tried importing the image into flash as a graphic symbol
    and then using the text tool to create the text. The results looked
    real sharp, the text was nice and crisp (just what I wanted). The
    problem is that I could not find a way to place the graphic symbol
    into the dynamic text area like id did using the <img> tag.
    This symbol needs to scroll as you scroll the text in the text
    area.
    This is why I am asking for help. I am looking for some ideas
    that may work.
    Thank you,
    Steve
