Publishing to a server other than .Mac

Does this version make that any easier? I can't find any information on it... I would rather use my FREE Comcast hosted web site than pay for .Mac... Any suggestions?

To be honest, if there is no built in FTP support, which EVERY other web authoring software that I have used includes, then I'll not be bothering with iLife 08. I'm getting increasingly frustrated with Apple's head-in-the-sand mentality, pretending that we all only use .mac. I have 4GB of hosting for several domains with a hosting provider, and I pay for that, and I'd like to be able to simply publish more than one site to that space using the web design tool (i.e. iWeb), not faff about saving to a folder and then using another FTP app.
Before I switched to the Mac I used FrontPage with FPSE on the server. It really was an absolute pleasure publishing my sites, and I paid noting to have FPSE support on my web hosting. I now use RapidWeaver for my websites, but still miss FrontPage publishing, which was great at recovering from publishing errors, unlike all the FTP tools that I've tried. Web creation and publishing on the Mac is far more of a headache and far less enjoyable than it was on Windows XP with FrontPage, that's for sure.

  • Can not publish to a domain other than .Mac

I've tried to use about 3 different FTP programs (Classic, Cyberduck, Fugu) and I can't get may website to publish. I was working in old Dreamweaver 4 on PC for my church's regional website, and re-did it in iWeb, but nothing. I also have my own "domain" at my university alumni and it won't publish/open/appear there. Am I saving it incorrectly in the first place? Am I supposed to upload the main folder, or open the folder and upload the html files and sub-folders?
Here's the message I get when I try to view my site:
    Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
    Thank you!

I made a redirect page in PowerPoint. I tried to test it on my own account (alumni) and the anwc.net one. On both my own alumni account (www.sfu.ca/~tellier) and rdpres.anwc.net, I'm getting similar same messages after having jigged around in UNIX and changed permissions:
"The requested URL /~tellier/index_files/slide0003.htm was not found on this server." (SFU)
"The requested URL /index_files/slide0003.htm was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request." (ANWC.NET)
I thought maybe I could do that "apply for a domain name" but our rdpres.anwc.net doesn't have a www in front of it and that's the only thing .Mac will accept.
    Yeesh!

  • Can iWeb be set to publish to a webserver other than .Mac?

Want to publish iWeb site/podcast to our schools webserver. Is the only way to do that is to use publish to a folder, selecting the mounted folder on the webserver via AFP?

The only way is publish to a folder and upload the resulting files using an FTP application to your server (usually people use an FTP application to upload websites, not AFP...)
It takes quite a while to re-upload the whole website each time you publish but there are ways to re-upload only pages that were modified since the last time you published

  • How do I get the RSS Feed to work when loading onto server other than .mac?

Does anyone have any knowledge of this? I am uploading a site created in iWeb on to a Media Temple which of course, disables many key functions in iWeb. One thing it supposedly doesn't disable though, is the RSS Feed, provided you input the proper URL when publishing the site. However, after nearly 20 tries with as many variations on the url as I could think of, nothing seems to work. Anyone have any insight? Many thanks in advance.

    It takes two things...
    1. Entering the correct base URL in the Publish to Folder window, and...
    2. Uploading the correct files to your server
    Number 1
When you select "Publish to Folder", there should be a little text field where you are asked to enter in a URL. What you need to enter here is the base URL for your site, and in most cases this is simply your domain name: http://www.yourdomain.com That's it. Nothing more. iWeb will then take this URL base and generate a functioning RSS feed URL.
    Number2
When you select "Publish to Folder", you are asked to specify a folder INTO which iWeb will save the files necessary for the functioning of your site. You will need to upload only the CONTENTS of this specified folder, which includes only TWO items: an index.html file & your sitefolder. You must upload only these two items to your server WITHOUT the enclosing folder (the one you told iWeb to publish into.
If you satisfy the above two conditions (and only if you satisfy these two conditions), then you will end up with a functioning, automatically generated RSS feed from iWeb on your own server. There are other ways of achieving this endpoint (a functioning RSS feed), but this is the ONLY way to get iWeb to do all the work for you.

  • Will iWeb Allow You to Publish to Places other than .Mac?

I like the functionality of iWeb, but wonder if it would allow me to publish to a site other than .Mac.

Choose Publish to a Folder rather than Publish to .Mac, then use FTP to upload from your local folder to your non-.Mac server.
You need to be aware, though, that you'll lose some of the benefits of .Mac publishing when you do this. Slideshows will be different, password protection won't be available, the hit counter won't work, and Comments and Search which came with version 1.1 won't function.

  • Can iWeb be hosted by another site other than .Mac?

I have already purchased a domain name and a hosting agreement with GoDaddy, however I cannot utilize their web page templates for some reason. Another mac user suggested I purchase iWeb and then have GoDaddy host. Can that be easily accomplished?

Yes, it can be easily accomplished. Here's iWeb's Help info on this topic...
Publishing to a server or hosting service other than .Mac:
Instead of publishing your site to .Mac, you can publish your site to a local folder and then upload it to the server or hosting provider of your choice. You may want to use this method if you own a domain name and want to place your site there.
To publish your site to a local destination:
Choose File > Publish to a Folder.
Choose a location to store your site, and then click Choose.
After you publish your site to a folder, you can use an FTP (file transfer protocol) client to upload the site folder and index file to the location of your choice. iWeb does not provide an FTP client, but they are easy to obtain. Some hosting services provide a web-based FTP upload service, or you can download an FTP client from the web. For more information, contact your server administrator.
If you don't publish your site to .Mac, these features are unavailable:
    Password protection
    Blog comments
    Blog search
    Hit counter
    Enhanced slideshows
Also, for Subscribe buttons to work, you must specify your site's URL in the field provided after you publish to a folder.

  • Hosting other than .Mac?

I'm creating a website for our church and want to use iWeb to create it, but since I'm the only one with an Apple computer, I don't really want to use .Mac to host the site. Is there a host that supports iWeb other than .Mac?

I believe iWeb was developed as a personal web page making tool. If you're doing it for a church, you will probably have to invest in learning how to upload files anyways. You're most likely going to have to learn it in order to teach it. I wish my brother had taught me.
Maybe take a web page building class at the local high school or community college. If you just don't have time to learn it, maybe suggest your church purchase a lower end mac.
    I disagree with kakster84.
It doesn't matter that it is for a church, personal, business etc. It only matters what the content will be. I would assume a church website would be more information and images then anything complicated that would require a class or some extra software.
I have build business websites for doctors, actors, ecommerce companies etc and always use iWeb.
    http://web.mac.com/modernmagic/modernmagic/web.html
What does the fact that it is for a "church" have to do with "investing in learning how to upload files"? Use iWeb, click "Publish" button. Done!
The whole point of a Mac, iWeb and .Mac is that you don't need to take classes. BUT if you can't seem to get started then walk into you local Apple store and ask for some help from an employee. If you must take a "class" then the Apple store provides one on one training for a yearly fee.

  • How to invoke a service on a server other than local bpel server?

    Hi,
Im trying to invoke a service on a server other than the local bpel server thats installed by default. Any pointers to how this can be achieved? My jedevelper does not show "Bpel process Manager server" under the connections navigator and hence I cannot create a new connection to a different server(other than the default one). Appreciate yr help.
    Thanks,
    -L

If you only want to just invoke the service, you dont need a new connection.
Cant you just point to the wsdl of the service in the partnerlink ?
If you need a new connection in jdeveloper to the other server, you first need to make the new applicationserver connection and after that the integrationserver connection.
After this you can connect to an other bpelserver, besides the default.

  • WT SynchManager instl. on a different Server other than SAP/SQL Server.

    Hi,
Is it possible to move/install WebTools SynchManager on a different server other than the SAP/SQL Server? Please let us know.
    Note:
    1. We are aware of the recommendation:  u201CInstall the SynchManager on the SAP Business One server on which the DI API is installedu201D in the "Business One Web Tools SynchManager Guide.pdf".
    2. But, SAP/SQL Server at our Client is starving of RAM due to a high number of windows services/application trying to run at the same time (although the maximum amount of RAM possible under the current configuration is installed (4GB)).
    3. So, we are evaluating as to which of these application (WebTools being one of them) can be moved to a different server.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Kafil Shumon.

    Hi Kafil,
You can put the synchmanager on a different server as  long as the DI API is installed and that server can access the B1 licensing server.

  • Customized Tasklist application in any server other than SOA Server

    Hi people,
I have used a tasklist taskflow in my application, but when I deploy this application to any server other than SOA server, it gives an error saying that there is no connection to SOA server. I have tried to make JNDI connections, but this is not working.
    Can anyone please help?
    Thanks.

You could always store it in a properties file.
    java.util.Properties
You could then write your JSP page to load/save the properties file. Hide it under the web-inf directory.
Alternatively you could put them as environment variables in web.xml. But you would have to edit the file manually to change the details. How often would this change? Would it really be that much of a hassle?
    Good luck,

  • Can I use an outgoing SMTP server (other than .me)

Can I set up my Mail account to use an out going SMTP server other than .me? I want to use my .me (iCloud) account for incoming mail but want another server for my out going mail. (The reason is a need to keep an existing From: address rather than be required to use "[email protected]".)

I think some networks restrict what smtp people use, I know that is true for my school. I think the answer this person is looking for is how is a quick way to choose the smtp. I think if the orinial poster selects new message, there is a littel black down arrow to the left of the subject line. If you press this down arrow and select customize, you could put a check box in the outgoing smtp field. Then you can select your out going mail server. But as for chaning your incoming mail server for all incoming email... well no... you can not determine what incoming email server you use for each account.
@rpeskin The Apple Mail program, does a good job or seperating email accounts. Look for a "show" button on the top menu (somewhere under the red close dot.)

  • Is it possible to send messg. to other emails (aol) other than mac. users?

    Hi.
I'm a novice mac. user and if it's possible to send messeges (yahoo, aol.etc.) other than mac. users using the Mail? If it's possible I need help--if possible, step by step, to set up my Mail. I appreciate it if you can help me.
    Thank you.

    Hello Louise.
Yes it is possible but if you have a free Yahoo account, Yahoo prevents accessing a free Yahoo account with any email client like the Mail.app for U.S. residents. If you have a paid Yahoo account which I believe costs only $20/year, you can access the account with the Mail.app and the account settings to set up the account in Mail are provided at Yahoo's website.
If you have an AOL email account, check Accessing the AOL Mail System using IMAP & Authenticated SMTP An Unofficial Guide and if you are currently using the AOL program to access your AOL account, you can use the AOL Service Assistant.

  • Creating a Pocast to be hosted somewhere other than .mac

Anyone had any experience of creating iweb pages with a podcast and hosting on site other than a .mac?
I know I can save the site/podcast to the desktop and then add/upload to an existing website.
When iWeb saves locally it asks for the url for the site.
so for example I might add...
    www.mycoolwebsite.com
Is there anything else that needs to be added to this path ... like /podcast?
Should it be saved to its own discrete folder?
Also I guess I will need to create a button within iweb, on the podcast page, to take the user back to the Host home page.
Anyone with any clear advice on how to do this?!!!
It would be nice just to have a link on a page to the RSS feed without having to go to this "bolt on" page.
Hope these Q's make some sense!!!
    Any ideas?

I know I can save the site/podcast to the desktop and
then add/upload to an existing website.
    Yes.
When iWeb saves locally it asks for the url for the
    site.
This is so that the internal links work.
so for example I might add... www.mycoolwebsite.com
Is there anything else that needs to be added to
    this path ... like /podcast?
You should have http:// on the front, then the URL for your webspace, whatever that is. If you save the pages to the root level of your webspace, then that will do. You might want to create a folder on the server called podcast, in which case you would need the /podcast, which represents the folder.
Should it be saved to its own discrete folder?
That's up to you: if you are not going to have any other pages then you might as well save to the root level. If you are going to have different sections it would be logical to have folders: but it doesn't really matter as long as the links are correct.
Note that when you upload, you send the contents of the folder you saved to, not the folder itself. Note also that your start page must be called index.html (though iWeb should take care of that).
Also I guess I will need to create a button within
iweb, on the podcast page, to take the user back to
    the Host home page.
I don't use iWeb, but it must offer links to the pages within the site and back to the main page.
It would be nice just to have a link on a page to the
RSS feed without having to go to this "bolt on" page.
Note that the link to the rss feed is for programs such as NetNewsWire which are rss readers, don't confuse this with an ordinary web page. You link to the rss page just the same as any web page: http://severname.com/rss.xml or whatever it's called (the extension must be .xml).
