Publishing to an existing URL

I currently have a URL and web site for my company and have built a new web site using iWeb. It will be ready to publish this week.
My concern is that the search engines will not recognize the newly published site once its up and/or it will drop in the search engine listings/standings.
Is this a realistic concern? If so, how can I address it?

Moving hosting of existing URL on Dotster to Business Catalyst?*

We just finished building a great site for a client. He is currently hosted at Dotster.com, and wants to move his existing URL that he has had for many years, over to BC to use the services (including hosting). My question is how do go about this specifically?
I have no experience with Dotster, and want to make sure this goes as smoothly as possible.
Secondly, he's asking
How do we import all my current site-members and newsletter subscribers?
He uses Constant Contact right now, but I do believe I read somewhere that you can export and import into BC? Does Dotster have something to do with this as well? Please excuse my inexperience with that domain registrar.

With the people you have the domain with you only now need that domain. If you have hosting with them then you just need to close that element down.
If he has email running through that service or another service using that domain you just need to point the A records to Business Catalyst.

To get data across you can export a spreadsheet template for customers and marketing lists to form your content ready for import. How you convert and transfer over you will need to do in the prefered manner. If the old data has a spreadsheet export you can run spreadsheet macro's to convert the data or manually copy and maste coloumns etc.
BC MUST have the structure it has kept for its import spreadsheets or it will not work.

Switching New website with old one using existing URL

I have a website running on bus catalyst under a URL (muirvalley.com) that I would like to completely replace with a new website, also created with bus. catalyst so that the existing URL now brings up the new website, and the old website is gone. How best to do this?

There are a couple ways:
1) sFTP the site to your new site. You will have to insert the forms, menus, etc. from the old site to the new one.
2) Switch the new site to a live site and delete the old one. Caution with this approach as you will lose any data in the old site.

Published & Can't find URL???

I currently have created 2 sites on iweb. The first I have a godaddy.com domain name for it.
I created the 2nd one just recently, published it, and then tried to visit it and the safari window that opens says:
Not Found
http://(address to my supposedly published site)
The requested URL was not found on this server.
What does this mean!!!! Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated : )

Please provide your personal url and the names you gave your two sites inside the iweb app so someone can see what is happening.

Is there is a way to email URL on a page automatically. I
want to
create a (mailto:[email protected] Existing URL) and have
the URL of
the page go along with the request for information. I will

have thousand of pages/images and when a customer requests

on that item, I would like the staff person receiving the

Unfortunately, that's the most unreliable method.
mailto: is quite simple, and is also the least reliable. It
depends both
on your visitor having an email client already installed on
their computer -
this eliminates public computers, or home users without email
clients
installed (more and more it seems) - and on the installed
email client
responding to
the mailto call. It is not possible to use this method *and*
send the
visitor to a
thank you page as well.
Notwithstanding this admonition, you can include the pagename
in the
resulting email subject line by making your mailto: link like
this -
mailto:[email protected]?subject=theITEMname
But this would have to be manually added to each instance of
the mailto
link. For the situation you describe it may be intolerably
tedious, or even
impossible, since I don't know the details of your link
arrangements.

Publishing new site to existing URL

I am doing a complete face lift to my site and so creating a completely new muse file. My concern is that when I publish this new one in place of the old one, there will be old info stored in Business Catalyst which would mess up the site. Is this something I should be concerned about?
A previous bad experience with an old XML file causing formatting problems on my site is what makes me worried.

While publishing site from Muse to BC, select the option, Publish All Files, this will replace all the files on BC with new one.

How to use Lion's Podcast Publisher with an existing podcast

Hello! I have a podcast in iTunes library and I used to manage it with Podcast Maker. I wonder if there's any way to use the native Lion's Podcast Publisher app to continue updating this podcast (and not to create a new one). I upload my content (music files) in my MobileMe account (Podcast Maker has the ability to auto setup my account) so I'd like to continue using this account for hosting this files. I tried the import option (File > Import podcast from URL...) and it downloaded all my episodes. Now what I have to do to post a new episode in the existing podcast?

Publishing to an existing Business Catalyst site!

Hi, I have an existing Business Catalyst site that includes an email account, if I publish a muse site on this existing site will the email account still be operable?

I'd like to use muse to create a few pages inside an existing site. Can i do this with the "Host direcorty" field inside the publish window?
I want to keep all the existing content that was built in dreamweaver though.
Is this possible?

Site won't publish with my own url...

I have a very simple site i'm trying to post, only 1 page with a qt movie. I have a url from go-daddy and i've already gotten the CNAME figured out thru them etc. I set up the domain name as needed thru mobile me (that seemed to take). I hit publish site from iWeb and it seemed to go well, but i go to my published site, and all it says is: This website is temporarily unavailable, please try again later.
i think it's on the mobile me side and not a go-daddy issue! But, i can't figure out where to go from here?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. How long has it been between you setting up MMe and GoDaddy for the domain name forwarding and trying to access your site with the domain name? It sometimes takes a day or so before it gets ironed out.

How to skip the non-existant URL parameters

I'm facing a little but nasty problem with the URL params
collection in Spry.Utils.
I have got in my code the usual line:
var params = Spry.Utils.getLocationParamsAsObject();
and this retrieves the data passed in querystring in the URL
of the page.
Anyway, when a parameter does not exist (let's say
ID_typology is passed only in certain circumstances in the URL of
the page), a JS error occurs.
Is there in your knowledge a way to solve the problem ? Is it
possible to loop into the params collection and control wheter a
certain parameter exists or not ?

I'd have to see how you're actually making use of the params
object to generate your error, but in general, if you want to know
if something exists or not, you can do something like this:
if (typeof params.ID_typology != "undefined")
// Do something with it.

Sending "Publish Email" giving wrong URL

What's going wrong when trying to inform others about our Group Calendar?:
- In iCal, I right mouse click on the published calendar to Send Publish Email.
- An email comes up in iMail with a message: You can view my calendar at:
http://ical.mac.com/woodwardwest/CAMP%20&%20LODGE%20EVENTS
- When I copy this URL and paste it into Safari (to test it before others receive it), I get a "Page Not Found" error message saying the ical cannot be found and the URL possibly changed.

CM14 BI Publisher - modifying an existing Data Model, the Graphic View in Query Builder does not display

I am trying to edit the default forms/reports that come with CM14, trying to edit the data model, data set, (to get to the old Infomaker style graphic view) , the Query model does not display (error the list of tables is too long..) Oracle tell me the limit is 60, there are not 60 tables referenced in any CM report.
Does this Query builder view work at all on any report?
(bigger question, we are moving from CM12, should we move to CM13 which works with infomaker?)

Kurt, thanks for your replies.
A couple of notes/clarifications.
1. You are correct that BI works better in Firefox--I have observed issues with the BI display when using IE. I would recommend using Firefox too.
2. You are correct about the way to get to the Query Builder to see a graphical view of data tables. There are basically two issues with this that I mentioned, but will re-iterate:
a. If you have an EXISTING query in the data set, then click the "Query Builder" button, this will remove the existing query that's there, it will NOT display the existing query in the query builder. Query Builder works only to create a NEW query from scratch.
b. Query builder is limited to selecting 60 fields max in your query. If you are creating a large report with many tables, you may find that 60 fields is not enough. For that you will have to work in the SQL edit screen rather than using the query builder.
I would impress on anyone developing CM14 reports that they become familiar with the database schema and relationships to avoid problems when developing your BI reports. You should be able to find the tables and joins documentation in the knowledgebase.

You can try using "goLiink" and then use the property targetFrame set to "_blank"; below are some for ur references:
targetFrame
_blank: The link opens the document in a new window.
_parent: The link opens the document in the window of the parent. For example, if the link appeared in a dialog window, the resulting page would render in the parent window.
_self: The link opens the document in the same page or region.
_top: The link opens the document in a full window, replacing the entire page.
