Publishing to godaddy

I know how to publish to godaddy. The question I have is this: If I have several pages(along the line of 10-20 in my iWeb site, am I going to have to purchase space(pages)from godaddy, rather than just my domain name from godaddy? I also have a large archive section that contains upwards of 100 articles.

Yes. If you actually want to publish the website that you have created in iWeb, then you will need to purchase a hosting account from GoDaddy that will give you this ability. As you also purchased your domain name from GoDaddy, then it would seem to make sense to purchase hosting from them too.
A domain name is just that - a personalised name on the internet that you register through a domain name registration company which GoDaddy is. It does not allow publishing of any kind so if you want to publish then you'll need to purchase a hosting account.

How do I publish to GoDaddy from multiple computers with iWeb '09? I have a domain name and account with GoDaddy.

Since you have to all be using the same domain.sites file another method is to put the file on a flash drive and carry it between computers. If those computers are not all yours then the drop box method may be the best method. However, two cannot try to edit at the same time and sufficient time must be given for any edits to be distributed to the other Macs.

  • Can't access my FTP Address for publishing (Dreamweaver & GoDaddy)

I am attempting to publish a website for a class I am taking. When I go into the "Site" tab and try to manage the site and server using an FTP, I continually get an error message that reads, "An FTP error occurred - cannot open server folder austinwa1/. Access denied. The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem." I am using GoDaddy for hosting and used their cPanel as I was instructed by their "help," but it doesn't seem to have helped at all. I thought I had the correct FTP address, usernamen and password but something is not right. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

austinwa1 is not a valid root directory with GoDaddy. GD uses either public_html (linux) or httpdocs (windows) as the root directory, depending on the server type you have. Wordpress and the old classic control panel versions are different still, but usually you're going to have Linux or Windows...
What is my website's root directory? | GoDaddy Help | GoDaddy Support
If you are planning to use austinwa1/ as your site root (forcing you to use www.yourdomain.com/austinwa1 as the homepage of your site) you will still need to have either public_html or httpdocs in front of austinwa1 in your server root directory field in order to connect using DW. So, in your FTP settings, you'll likely need either...
    /public_html/austinwa1
    or
    /httpdocs/austinwa1

  • How to get flash audio to play when published to godaddy

I'm trying to move all my iWeb websites to Godaddy, but can't get flash audio to work playing my mp3 on the site. With iDisk it's easy, just install the flash player in there, but how do I get it to my godaddy server and write the iDisk address into the widget code.  How do I do it when using godaddy as the new host?

Download the folder of assets for your flash player from iDisk. Get there from the Finder Go menu - iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites.
Drag the folder onto your desktop and then upload it to the server using an FTP app like the freeware Cyberduck or your hosting service's file manager.
Enter the new URLs to the files in snippet code.

  • Problems publishing to godaddy

Using cyberduck. Everything's getting there, just fine.
Problem is my page doesn't show up. Tech support says it's a conflict between my index page and a page I have labeled "home" (which is just like the index page, but I wanted it named home not "index").
I have yet another very web-savvy friend, looking at an ftp window of mine, tell me that everything's in folders, and really shouldn't be.
    So, now, I'm totally confused.
I'm really tired of hassling with this stuff. I thought iWeb was supposed to streamline the process, but seems, instead, to have amplified the problem.
I'd like to be wrong on this. Someone please clear all this up for me.

Godaddy should have no trouble with the site structure created by iWeb, which consists of two items, an index.html file plus a folder which has the same name as your site does inside iWeb. If you break this structure and just upload the contents of that folder, you may have a conflict between the index.html and the home.html which are found there. The comment made by your friend about the folders is mistaken.

  • Can't Publish My GoDaddy Blogcast Feed

Hi.  I am having the same problem as well.  I am trying to submit my GoDaddy Quick Blogcast feed (podcast.pastorjames.net) using the RSS Podcast 2.0 feed to iTunes and I'm getting the same Byte-Range error.  If I click "continue" in iTunes enough times, I can get past it, but I get a generic email from Apple saying there was an error and my podcast was not added.  I have run a feed validator and I get a channel error (Missing atom:link with rel="self").  But I don't know how to fix it.  I am also able to manual subscribe to my podcast in iTunes under the Advanced menu.  I am a loss here!  Please help.

The only error in your feed is in the URL in the 'itunes:image' tag, which has spaces in it - spaces are not allowed in a URL so this is invalid. However this will not affect the feed overall.
As you say, it can be subscribed to manually in iTunes. I gather when you submit it you are told that the server does not handle 'byte range requests', which Apple have now made a requirement. The iPhone plays podcasts by using 'byte-range requests', which means calling for part of the file at a time rather than the whole thing. Unfortunately some servers don't support this, and there were an increasing number of complaints that podcasts which worked elsewhwere weren't working on an iPhone.
So Apple are now making the ability to handle this a condition of submission. Your media files are served from media.podcastingmanager.com: apparently they don't support this, so all you can do is to ask them whether they can implement it. If not, you will have to find another hosting service - ask about this before committing yourself, and if they say no, or don't know what it is, find another host.

  • How do I remove my iWeb pages from the Home folder so I can publish to a new host?

I have moved my MobileMe site to a new service (GoDaddy).  The basic transfer went very smoothly.  With one tiny hitch:  the new URL text.
IWeb places web  pages in folders, each folder being a  "site." The name of the root folder automatically becomes a "pointer" to the web site -- and part of the URL text.
My current root folder  is named DavidChartrand -- me.  So..... when I published everything over to GoDaddy the text "DavidChartrand" was attached to my URL.
Instead of seeing www.davidchartrand.com in the URL bar, visitors  see:   www.davidchartrand.com.com/DavidChartrand
GoDaddy staff says this is simply a quirk in iWeb's design.  Fine, but it's annoying.  Is there anyway I can keep using iWeb but somehow remove the root folder.....that is, remove my site pages from the root folder and and then re-publish? GoDaddy tech support swears it  has many former MobileMe/iWeb users who have done this successfully but offered had no idea how.
    David

The way iWeb publishes its websites, in its own folder, the normal URL is http://www.domain_name.com/Site_name/Page_name.html.  This is a normal URL for any web host.
If you want to get rid of the site name you will need to publish your website to a folder on your hard drive and upload only the contents of the website folder to your server with a 3rd party FTP client like YummyLite, Transmit or Cyberduck.  That will get rid of the site name in the URL.
Of course remove the existing website foldr from the server beforehand.
I believe the folder you publish to on GoDaddy is named public_html.  You might try renaming your website to "public_html" and publish to GoDaddy.  In theory iWeb will see the website's folder already on the server and publish the website file into it.
It works that way with HostExcellence.com which names the home folder the same as the domain name associated with it. This tutorial explains more about it: iW16 - Using HostExcellence.com with iWeb

  • Hosting my iweb site on GoDaddy, but not everything works

I uploaded my site (built in iWeb) to GoDaddy. When I view my site via .mac, everything looks and works as it is supposed to. When I went to my website after hosting it on GoDaddy, everything looked good and worked except for 3 minor things. Here are the 3 troubles I had. Any help on how to fix them is appreciated.
    1) One of my pages when clicked on says "page not found". It shows up though when I view it via .mac.
    2) I have three posts on my blog page, but only 2 of them show when clicked. The other one tells me "page can't be found"
    3) The search field I have on my blog page does not show up. It does who up when I view my website via .mac.

I fixed the "page not found" problem. I ended up just making a new page from scratch.
Now my only unsolved issue is the search field doesn't show up. Maybe it is only available on .Mac?!
I also noticed on my blog that the comments doesn't show either. I did set it up to allow comments. When viewed via .Mac, the comments area is there. When I view my site after publishing to GoDaddy, it doesn't show that comments are allowed. I only noticed this because a friend who visited my site told me to put a comments section on my blog and I said that I did have one. It ain't showing up, though. Anyone know if there is a fix for this?

  • Several Iweb and godaddy questions.

    Hello Folks:
Just to give you an idea of my proficiency with web design, I'm the equivalent of a student pilot who just soloed. Just enough knowledge to be dangerous and a threat to mankind. Here are my questions:
    1. How do I use text editor or word to modify my HTML? I can view the HTML of my site, copy and paste, but can't get it back into iweb as other than alphabet soup. I specifically want to change the email address. I wrote the site having my personal email address in my address book and can't change it to the business email address by just re-publishing with the change to my address book.
    2. I published to Godaddy and of course cant use the counter. I tried to follow the instructions after starting an account at Statcounter.com but don't know how to insert it then change it back to a web site. Same basic problem as the email.
2.1 Why would Mac consider something as basic as a counter to be proprietary?
    3. Can't get the slideshow to work on Godaddy. It works fine on my computer. On Godaddy, the slide show bar at the very bottom does not publish. I get an enlarged photo with a border on only three sides, nothing at the bottom. I can also enlarge each photo one at a time with the same results.
    4. Is the Iweb loaded on my Mac a watered down version? Seems like a lot of features may be lacking, especially if you want to do a business website like mine. I love my Macs and don't want to have to switch to some windows program, but need more than I see on Iweb.
My website is www.airlandandseaparts.com. I'm going to switch into windows hard drive now and see if the slideshow works.
    Thank you very much.
    Regards,
    Kevin

I wrote the site having my personal
email address in my address book and can't change it
to the business email address by just re-publishing
with the change to my address book.
You should be able to though... this is strange... Especially if you are publishing to a folder, then you should be able to re-upload the newly published files with the proper email address.
2.1 Why would Mac consider something as basic as a
    counter to be proprietary?
The resources for the counter are hosted by .Mac. They can't possibly account for every variable as far as available resources on other hosts. (php, etc - stuff I don't understand nor want/care to but thats what it is about probably)
    3. Can't get the slideshow to work on Godaddy. It
works fine on my computer. On Godaddy, the slide
show bar at the very bottom does not publish. I get
an enlarged photo with a border on only three sides,

    Try re-uploading your slideshow_assets folder.
I can also enlarge each photo
one at a time with the same results.
This is how the non-.Mac slideshow works.

  • HT1338 IWEB  pages

After my iweb was erased by an Apple Genius,. I put the information on the PAGES program. The actual site is still on the mobile me web. I am missing the iweb part  Is there a way that I can put the information back on i web so that I can publish and it will publish to GoDaddy? (I have  part about publishing to GoDaddy all set .  If I hit "publish" Godaddy said that it will publish to their site. The problem is that when the iweb work site got erased, I partially recreated it in my word processor. How do I get it back into iweb form.?

None of us can see your local file system so we can't see your web site.
My suggestion is to use another html editor not a word processing program. Learn to use the editor then just transfer your files to GoDaddy. iWeb and word processors use none standard html and other control characters that are not compatible with web servers. Use an html editor, many are free, then you won't have any issues uploading your site.

  • Iweb SEO tool won't upload to FTP

    Hello
I had success last month, when I had to migrate my iweb site to Godaddy for hosting, but now when I try to use iweb SEO to publish it via FTP, it times out. I get "connection lost", or just a "beep" as an error message. I'm using iweb SEO tool to install analytics code on my site (its a pretty easy process), but if there's another way to do that, as well as publish to godaddy, I'd love to hear about it
    thanks in advance

so here's another question. Ive enclosed a screen shot, as taken through Cyberduck. the highlighted folder at the bottom is the same as my site's name as it comes out of iweb. Seems that thats a duplicate of the entire site and can be deleted, right?
    thanks

  • Multiple sites (w/o using iWebsites)

I'd like to use iWeb to publish multiple sites. I've already created one site, and would like to add one or two more. (Incidentally, I'm using Godaddy, not MMe, to host).
I've found the question asked and answered using iwebsites.
I'm wondering, is there a simple way to publish multiple sites w/o using a 3rd party app? I imagine I could just create several domain files, one for each site, and segregate them like that. However, I'm concerned about messing things up, so i figured I'd ask for precise instructions from the wise and helpful group.
Without using iWebsites, what would be the steps to create additional sites in separate domain files, and what would be the best way to organize and work with them?
    Thanks!

    Kurt Weber wrote:
While all this is well and good isn't it rather a pain? I continue to renew MobileMe, not because it is a better web hosting service, but out of sheer convenience. Updating a site can take only a few seconds with the help of the "publish" button.
I honestly expected publishing to Godaddy to be much more difficult than it was. I got up and running almost immediately, and the benefits of hosting my site outside the aegis of MMe is worth it to give up the one-click convenience. From what I can tell lurking in this forum, I would find some of the restrictions and workarounds dealing with MMe more of a pain than hosting elsewhere. I realize some people's needs might be better met by MMe, but mine are better met with Godaddy.
And now that I've gotten one site up and running, I need to make another! (And don't want to mess up the first).
You can create multiple sites from within iWeb. In the file menu select "New site." If you using domain forwarding you should be able to direct users to this new site and keep it separate from your other site. All these sites would be on the same server and be updateable with one click.
I'd prefer to keep different projects in different documents rather than cultivate a multi-headed hydra of a domain file. I'm not sure I'd want to update everything with one click! With Godaddy, my URLs and page titles are standard, I can poke around in the published folder and tweak HTML, and my site searched high when I googled it 2 days after publishing.
I have three different sites going, one for our church using domain forwarding, and two that I use and direct users to by sending them the longer address. (I am cheap... I don't want to buy another domain.)
The important thing is it works for you!
I have a MMe account and plan to use it for a future site I'll create in iWeb. But for my current sites, I'd rather use a 3rd party.

  • Gallery for non .mac?

Is Web gallery even an option for non .mac domains? I host my personal website on godaddy and am wondering if the coolness that is the new Web .mac gallery can be "published" to godaddy.

Hi Dave, the beauty about ajax+XML is exactly that you don't need a complicated markup to render flashy pages, the XML part is handled by iPhoto itself and you just need the script to do whatever it wants with your photos, trust me, you don't need a .Mac account or anything more that the script and a plain and common web server, there's no behind-the-scenes magic.
But don't trust me, go here: http://www.ontoinfo.com/2006/09/22/javascript-flying-pictures-effect/ follow the instructions, make sure to copy the script from their link at their second paragraph and just paste it on your address bar, and that's a ONE-LINE script, much smaller that a tiny picture in size, and you can run that script on any website on the web, provided they got many pictures so you can enjoy it, no special web server or behind-the-scenes magic, just paste it on your address bar.
It's common to find stuff that you hadn't upload on most web servers, and I don't think Apple would be so naive to put them freely available on user accounts.
I don't spend my lunch uploading a gallery either, I just use the free Picasa plug-in on iPhoto and it gets uploaded in a couple of minutes, it may not be that flashy, but has more features and control than .Mac, Picasa as you might know is Google, and they master at web applications (ajax too BTW).
I was a .Mac user for years when it was free and even when they made it a pay service I stayed for a year, still in my own opinion not worthy. Also I got three iPods, The one I use everyday (a 60GB) is full and have never paid a premium or a subscription for it, iTMS is not available in my country for that matter, but if it were, I would gladly pay .99 for a song, but not $69 for a script and 10 useless GB (that's me).
Yes I've tried iWeb twice, once when it came out and the other a week ago, I didn't like it then, and a week ago found it pretty disappointing, some new stuff but still renders the most horrible markup ever, a simple page takes 10 times to render. Rapidweaver does a much better job.
On the other hand, and despite the huge disappointment of iWeb, iMovie and the .Mac fiasco, I love iPhoto, it is really and noticeably faster and the keyword engine is great. Also I would pay $80 for Pages and Keynote each, and Numbers is a good start.

  • Multiple videos on one page

so i have created a website (which i haven't posted yet) in iweb- my question concerns video on iweb. on one page i have 5 videos that range from 20MB to 60MB, i would like these videos to download without a lot of wait time. curious what the wait time for this page would be? and also, would it be better to create a picture and then a hyperlink to each video? would that be faster? would preferably like to have multiple videos play on the page rather than hyperlinking to another page, but from what i've read, it sounds like it takes a while to download a page like that. also, i am not going to use mobileme, most likely godaddy.
    thank you.
    ben

I just learned from toad yesterday...and I was where you were. I was afraid to try the code thing. But I kept pushing till I figured it out.
I also publish with GoDaddy. They are very Mac friendly.
My suggestion is that you upload your video file to Godaddy first. I used Cyberduck (free). When you get Cyberduck up and your file uploaded to the server, look (navigate) on the Cyberduck interface to the video file you have created the button for.
Then, go to "Get Info" in the pulldown menu. You will see the URL that GoDaddy has assigned to the video (basically the Directory/Path).
This is the info you want to put in the code part on iWeb where (in red) you replace the template text.
To help you understand what Toad has published in red:
    1. the first red is where the URL path from the Cyberduck info goes.
    2. the second reds are the size of the Video you want to display. I find that 640x480 works very well.
    3. the last red is what your button will say: replace with "Click to Play"
BIG HINT: Get Quicktime Pro. That interface will allow you to save your vide as a "Fast Start" video for uploading. I think this is Apple's equivalent of Flash.
Once you get your stuff in place you will probably have to have a few phone sessions with Tech support at GDaddy. They can spot your mistakes and help get you up.
Good Luck. This was all new to me and very intimidating - but 48 hours later I was able to have it all working.
I even got it working on Network Solutions - but it was much more of a headache.
For large video files, though, NetSol will let you put your videos on a Streaming Server for faster and more reliable service. Problem is that server only works with RealMedia and Windows Media Player...and who wants to convert all their QT files.

  • Unable to 'Upload to FTP Host' in Muse CC 2014

I have a client that wants to use GoDaddy for their server. I have all the correct user names/ passwords and if I keep tapping "try again"
I will eventually get the following screen:
After I hit "Resume" 5-6 times, the upload will advance:
and eventually my site will be uploaded. I have been using FileZilla to upload because it is taking minimum of 5 minutes to update my site. Does anyone know why this is happening? TIA!!

Very interesting. I'm in the same boat. I just recently bought a Time Capsule 3TB.  I have a 2014 Macbook Pro Retina and wanted to update a Godaddy website in Muse.   When I try to publish to Godaddy using this specific network it will stop at 68% or when the logging into FTP message on the bottom appears. If I use another network it will work fine.
I called Apple and they have no solution. From my basic research I found Muse uses TCP UDP port 6888 and unblocking them seems to not work in Airport.
    Any ideas?
