Publishing to html5

This may seem a bad question, but like my teacher said "the only bad questions are those no one asks"
How do you publish to HTML5 in Cap8? Is the box dark grey or light grey?
Can you create a swf and html file in 1 package?
Thanks

You can publish to both SWF and HTML, and yes, I also don't like the new UI colors. They have both to be dark grey...
Publishing doesn't mean you'll end up with one package. But if you upload everything to a LMS or webserver, CP can detect which device is used when accessing the course and will show the appropriate version (SWF or HTML5).

  • Captivate 7 course published to html5 not working

I recently created an elearning course and published to both SWF and HTML5 for SCORM 1.2. However, in doing so, I could not get it to play on my iphone, and on the Mac only some browsers worked.
I separated the two outputs in two different versions and published them to SCORMCloud with the following results:
Published to SWF - works fine across all browsers.
Published to HTML5 - does not work on any browser,  or iphone/ipad. I can't even get the "Preview HTML5 output in web browser" to work.
In all cases, we simply see a blank screen. The HTML5 tracker does not show that there are any incompatibilities. The options under externalized resources are left unchecked. I have included a screen shot of the html5 settings, just in case. They seem pretty cut and dry, but is there something somewhere--here or on another screen--that I am missing?
I am really in a bind at this point since this course was supposed to be up and running a couple days ago. Any help you can offer is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    Best,
    Arthur

They're all in the same boat with you.  It's not working reliably for them either.
You need to go back to the drawing board and ask yourself (or your client) some hard questions about your target audience and your target course content.
Is is REALLY the kind of content that you want people to view on a tiny smart phone screen?  E.g. is it desktop software training?  If not, then why bother with trying to support tiny screens?
Are the people in your target audience REALLY likely to be viewing this content ONLY on their phones, or could they just as easily view it in their web browser on their computer? If so, tell them so.
The truth is that most clients have no idea about the technical limitations of this brave new world we call Mobile Learning, and many are now picking up HTML5 as the latest technological buzzword they trot out to show how "with it" they are:
"We need our content to be HTML5-compatible to accommodate the m-learning landscape and maximize shareholder expectations bulldust bulldust bulldust...ad nauseum."
While I agree that HTML5 is probably the future of e-learning, it's causing more than it's fair share of headaches in the present.

  • Can't convert flv to mp4 when I publish to html5

    Hi
I have a project that  incorpporates FLV files which where imported succesfully.  When I publish to HTML5, the flv files fail to convert to Mp4.  Ironically, if I publish the entire project to mp4 it works?
    Has anyone got any ideas.
    Cheers

Ps I am using Captivate 7

    REsolved
I have been using a third-party program to generate FLV files.  Although captivate 7 accept these files & publishes these files in certain formats (including mp4), the Adobe media encoder is unable to convert these files into mp4 format if you want to publish them as html5.  In order to resolve this, I had to bring files into captivate as either AVI or MP4 files. The Adobe media encoder then converts them to an acceptable FLV for captivate.  If I then publish to HTML 5, the media encoder successfully does the conversion.
As a quick test I tried to directly convert the third-party generated FLV files using adobe media converter into F4v files and then import them into captivate, however the Adobe media encoder would not recognise the flv format.
Therefore, if you come up with a similar problem, I strongly recommend that you bring in your video files as avi or mp4 and let the Adobe media encoder do its work.

  • Possible Bug with Drag-and-Drop Being Published via HTML5 - Getting "Undefined" Error When Dragging Object

    Hello,
I came up with a way to use drag-and-drop interactions that will take advantage of file input so that I may create a drag-and-drop interaction that uses one draggable object over and over allowing multiple scoring/tracking possibilities.  Example use...is having the draggable object be dynamic in that it randomly changes its text so that a learner can drag a term it's possible classification.........thus allowing the possibility of having many terms easily loaded without having to redo a drag-and-drop interaction for each needed terms/classifications updates/changes.
My Issue: When using a variable to represent the text for a draggable Smart Shape object, I'm getting the error message "undefined" when, clicking/pressing on the object, as well as during the drag of the object. This issue occurs when publishing the project in an HTML5 format.  Flash interestingly enough seems to work perfect...but we are not interested in publishing via Flash any longer.
To better help you explore this error message, I've set up a test project so that you can see when and how the "undefined" message shows up during a drag-and-drop interaction.  I've also included the Captivate 8 project file used to make the exploration project I'm sharing in this post.
Link to Captivate project I created for you all to explore "undefined" error message": http://iti.cscc.edu/drag_and_drop_bug/
Link to this Captivate 8 Project file: http://iti.cscc.edu/drag_and_drop_bug.cptx
It's pretty interesting how things react in this demo, please try the following actions to see some interesting happenings:
Drag the Yellow (or variable drag box) to the drag target.
Drag Black Hello square to Drag target and click undo or reset - watch the undefined message come up on the Yellow (or variable drag box).
Drag the Yellow (or variable drag box) to the drag target and then use the undo or reset.
Move both draggable boxes to the drag target and use the undo and reset buttons...
Anyhow, I know you all are sharp and will run the demo through its paces.
I'd really be very honored if anyone help me figure out how I could (when publishing out to HTML5) no longer have the "undefined" error message show up when using drag-and-drop with a variable for shape text. This technique has been well received at the college I work at...and I have many future project requests for using such an idea on a variety of similar interactions. I'd love see a solution or see if this might be a bug Adobe may be able to fix!
I tried to find a solution to the issue documented here for quite some time, but I was not able to find anyone with this problem much less attempting the idea I'm sharing in the help request -  save the darn "undefined" message that comes up!
Many thanks in advance for any help and/or direction that you all may be able to provide,
    Paul

    Hello,
I just wanted to supply a minor update related to my drag-and-drop question/issue stated above:
I did another test using Captivate 7, and found that the undefined error (publishing as HTML5) does not appear and the variable data remains visible - except the variable data turns very small and does not honor any font size related settings.
I did go ahead and submit this to Adobe as a possible bug today.
Thanks again for any help related to this issue.  If the issued documented above is solved, it will allow many amazing things to be done using Captivate's drag-and-drop for both regular type projects as well as interaction development for iBooks!
Matter of fact if this issue gets fixed, I'll publish a Blog entry (or video) on way's I've used Captivate's drag-and-drop to create dynamic learning activities for Higher Ed. and for use in iBooks.

I've made a drag & drop interactivity, I am adding a button where the user can get the correct answers for that interactivity.
using advance actions / Standard action / and apply custom effect (right to left ease) in captivate 7.
The problem I'm experiencing is that the button works fine when reviewing as SWF but when I publish as HTML5, it is not running.
I am attaching screen shots for it.

  • Close window not working when publishing as HTML5 on Adobe Connect using CP8

    Hi all,
I'm trying to get a button that closes the project/window at the end of a video. I am using CP8.
I can get it to work when publishing as SWF to Adobe Captivate.
It also works when publishing as HTML5 but not on an LMS (Adobe Connect).
I have tried various methods including
    - On success execute a Javascript =  window.close()
    - On success - exit
    - On success execute advanced action = Assign cpCmdExit with 1
I also tried adjusting the slide settings On Exit: exit and the publishing settings Project End Options: Action: Close project.
    Nothing works.
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks,
    Aimee

    Hi Aimee,
Can you test this to close the course window:
Insert 2 buttons or smart shape used as buttons (as Finish course buttons).
On the first button apply an action to execute javascript and in the script window, use this script: parent.close()
On the second button apply an action to execute javascript and in the script window, use this script: top.window.close()
Upload the published project on your LMS and check if any of these works for you.
    Thanks
    Himanshu

  • Pause/Play functionality not working with publish to HTML5

    Hi experts,
I am creating a Captivate course to be deployed on iOS and publishing to HTML5. We are using custom buttons (not playback controls) for navigation to advance through the slides. My client would also like Play/Pause functionality for some of our embedded (MP4) videos. I used the following tutorial to create these buttons to toggle the Play & Pause functionality:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0v2F0NyEAfs
This worked PERFECTLY when previewed in a browser from Captivate, but does not work when published and launched in HTML5 format, from the same browser. I didn't use any Flash content, rollover functionalities, or anything noted in the limitations list for HTML5 output. The conditional functions I have set for my buttons are:
    PAUSE:
    Hide > SPI_Pause
    Show > SPI_Play
    Assign > cpCmndResume with 0
    Assign > cpCmndPause with 1
    PLAY:
    Assign > cpCmndPause with 0
    Assign > cpCmndRsume with 1
    Hide > SPI_Play
    Show > SPI_Pause
The issue I am encountering is that the video completely pauses itself the moment the pause button displays on the stage (no matter where I place it in the timeline). I'm not pressing it or anything, it just initiates the cpCmndPause function and disregards all the others I have set. From there the conditional sequences are rendered useless as the video is already paused even though I didn't press the button. I've verified this happens anywhere I try to use the cpCmndPause function.
I am running Captivate 6.1.0.309 on Mac OSX 10.8.2. I've tested the HTML5 output in Chrome and Safari with the same results. I did see a thread regarding a patch install (for 6.0.1xxx) that resolved some issues, but this appears to be an earlier version of what I have installed so this should have been resolved with my install?
    Please HELP!

So, was this issue NOT resolved with the patch, or is this an entirely new/different issue?
It seems as though this functionality is pretty basic, so I don't understand why this is a restriction with HTML5 output? Please advise, if there are restrictions with advanced actions that are not noted in the HTML5 limitations documentation, then they should be.
Thank you, I too have a client deadline and have purchased this subscription based on the documentation Adobe has provided about the application's ability to publish to this new format.

  • Captivate 8 - Issue with interactions when publishing to html5

Has anyone else had difficulty with the built-in learning interactions when publishing to html5?  Are they incompatible?  We've had a few hiccups with things as we do all publishing to html5 and there seem to be some disconnects.

Thanks Shriyansh. I've emailed you with a link to download the project along with the following additional details:
Browsers I'm testing for compatability (all are up-to-date as far as I know):
    - Also, the slides that were repeating yesterday aren't repeating today
    Chrome 38.0.2125.104 m
    Internet Explorer 11.0.9600.17358
    Safari for Windows 5.1.7
Firefox 33.0 (Captivate says Firefox doesn't support the content so I'm not expecting a solution for FF, however, firefox repeats the first slide very consistently)
Publish settings (pretty much the defaults):

  • Captivate 7 Screen Captures (scrolling) not showing when published in HTML5

I am using Captivate 7 and when I publish in HTML5 my screen captures (of the screen scrolling) do not show -- I get a blank screen for a couple of seconds --, even though they show when I preview for the Web in HTML5. They also show when I play them locally, but not from my server. Here is a link to a short video that has this problem -- click the fast forward button seven times after clicking play to get to a screen scroll.  http://streaming.missioncollege.org/library/media/Tutorials/Title/index.html

I was using Internet Explorer 9. This morning I tried 10 & 11 with the same results. It works fine in Chrome and on a Mac with Safari. I do not have my iPad with me today, but I tried it this weekend and had the same problem, though I just updated my OS, so I will try again. If it does not work well on an iPad then I might as well output as FLASH. I will try my iPad again tonight and report back tomorrow. Thanks.

  • No audio in accordion interaction after publishing as HTML5 in Captivate 7

    Hi guys,
we have a problem with the accordion interaction in Captivate 7. After publishing it as an HTML5 project the audio (mp3) doesn't play on the accordion interaction slide. The interaction itself looks great and clean, and the audio plays fine in .swf and preview, but it doesn't play when published as HTML5.
Any suggestions? Do you need more info? Let me know.
    Thanks so much again,
    Nat

Add the file to your Captivate install directory Gallery > Interactions folder.  (Make a backup copy of the original file in case you need it later.)
    E.g. C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 6 x64\Gallery\Interactions
Make a note of the name of the interaction. Then open a new Captivate project and from the Insert menu, select Interactions.
Find the interaction in the screen and insert it into the slide.
Then configure the interaction, publish and test.

  • Audio not working on one slide when publishing to HTML5

I'm in Captivate 8. In one slide in my project no slide audio will play when published to html5. I've tested in Chrome and IE 11. In Chrome, I see the 'speaker' icon that appears when audio or video is running but no sound comes up. (The speaker appears for the length of the audio file ~5 sec) All other slides are fine, and the slide audio plays correctly if I use F3 or F10 to preview the slide inside Captivate.
The slide in question is a 'menu' only reached via an advanced action. I know the advanced action is not the culprit - if I change it to jump to a different slide, the audio on that slide plays without problem.
Similarly, I've verified that if I place this audio file on a different slide, it plays fine, but if I add a different audio file to this slide the problem remains. If I create a button on the problem slide to trigger the audio it plays, (but is unhelpful since I want the audio to play automatically when the user enters the slide).
I've tried removing/re-adding the audio, recreating the slide from a copy, setting the audio to play via an "on enter" advanced action, and adding a play trigger to the advanced action that jumps to this slide. Nothing I've tried gets the audio to play.
I'd welcome any suggestions of what might be happening or how to fix this.
    Thank you,
    Jenny Nilsson

    Hi Lieve,
Thank you, yes, if I view using f12 the audio works correctly.
The "exitBranch" action is associated with a continue button at the end of each branch. If all branches have been visited, it jumps to a new slide, if there are unvisited branches, it jumps back to the menu slide where the audio is not working. (If I edit the action to jump somewhere else the audio will work for the different slide.)
The action was created from a shared action and my colleague and I have used it in multiple other modules without this error.
    Thanks,
    Jenny N

  • Unable to access external video file after publishing in html5

I am trying to publish a project that contains links to external files (.mp4 videos). After publishing, I get an path error message when I try to run the videos after publishing. The references to the videos are by name without any paths specified.
When I published the file the videos reside in the same folder as the captivate project file.
The instructions say copy the files to the output folder after I publish as html5.
What I did was extract the zip folder
Place the videos in the parent folder after extraction.
Ran the project. It runs except for the video execution.
There are a number of folders when the zip file is extracted.
Am I placing the videos in the right folder?

I personally prefer to get my files up on the server and link directly to them in Captivate.
Are you putting your's in the root folder of your project? eg. /projectname/... instead of/projectname/callees/ ?

  • Publishing in html5 changes colors of some graphics

I'm working on a project and want to publish in html5. Problem is, it alters the background among other issues in this format. What can I do to insure the published html5 looks like what I see when viewing from within Captivate? Thanks.
Example: http://www.fuquadesign.com/fdpresentation/index.html (starts on second slide and gets worse). Also, the final slide's effect is different than what I see within Captivate.)

In case anyone else ever runs into the same problem, the solution was that the original art had already been rotated before the effect was to take place. Though it worked perfectly in any of the in-Captivate review modes, HTML5 didn't like it.
I had to bring in the original artwork again with no rotation and all worked perfectly.

I am unable to publish in presenter 10 to html5.  The option for html5 is not active.

  • I want to create a graph which is animated and publish in HTML5

Does anyone have an idea of how to achieve building an animation of something basic like the line of a line graph growing, but then have it published in HTML5?
Obviously creating something like this in After Effects is not hard, and then publishing it in Captivate 6 as a flash file does work, but if anyone has a way to achieve this so it will run as a published HTML5 file, please do let me know. Thanks!

You can open an URLConnection to a file on an FTP server (search this forum to find out how). You can get the InputStream from the URLConnection and feed it to ZipInputStream. That should do the job.
