Publishing to non .mac account problem

Hi
HELP!
I think I have bitten off more than I can chew....
Having fallen in love with iWeb I took the plunge and published
the website I created to my Partners site (as the iWeb one I wrote was 100% better than his)
I used 'Easy Iweb Publisher' to upload the site
his domain is www.st-erasmus.com
All I get is blank white screen. In the public_html folder there looks like the files I uploaded are sitting there.......
any suggestions?

You'll have to check with your host as to where exactly the files need to be uploaded. But typing in your domain results in the white screen as you mentioned, resolved to a file called "HOME.html". This should give you a clue as to where to publish. Wherever this "HOME.html" file lives is probably the same place you want to publish. Then you'll have to find out where there is another index.html file redirecting to this file, as you'll want to replace or at least edit this file too.

  • Publishing to Mulitple .mac accounts

Hi. I have multiple .Mac accounts and am currently working on two websites in iWeb. The problem I'm having is getting the 2nd website to post to another .Mac account via iWebs "publish" functionality. They both post under the same .Mac account user URL site. Is there away to do this so each site posts to the proper .Mac accounts website?
    Thanks,
    -J

    James,
I think your understanding of the matter is correct. But I would suggest that the cleanest and most elegant option is probably the second method which involves creating a second system user account for the second .Mac account. Then the only thing you would need to do is to log into the right account in OS X to publish to each .Mac account.
Changing the .Mac preferences back and forth is cumbersome and still doesn't do away with the problem of having both sites under the same Domain file. With separate system accounts, each .Mac account will have its own Domain file which you will not have to keep track of. Changing .Mac preferences back and forth also affects other things that you might use, like iChat or syncing to your iDisk. Very messy.
Anyways, good luck with this. Do me a favor and mark this reply with the little buttons above as either "helpful" or "solved." Thanks.

  • Help, i cant password protect when i publish to my .Mac account

Whenever i try to put a password-protect my site i keep on getting an error message when im publishing to my .Mac account. "there was an error updating your .Mac account". When i publish my site without the password protection everything goes smoothly and no problems.
Is there some setting i dont know of that is preventing me from doing so?
Does it take time for this feature to work? (i only bought the subscription and registered to .Mac yesterday)
      Mac OS X (10.4.5)

nah... giving up now. cant password protect the site
told .mac support, they said its a problem with my ISP. Im inclining to agree. Unfortunately the ISp dont have mac tech support. so yeah.

  • Podcasts don't play m4a files on a non .mac account.

So here is the deal I created a podcast site using iweb. Saved to a folder and uploaded it to www.damntourist.com/testcast
I didn't change anything. Just created it and ftp'd to the web.
If you click on the sample podcast, it doesn't load. Seems that mp4 and m4a files do not work on non .mac accounts.
You can also check out www.damntourist.com/audio/rss.xml
This is for another test that I did. Here you will see that the m4a or mp4 files can not be downloaded but the mp3 files can. All of these files are in the same folder.
The files do play just fine from my hard drive in itunes, on my ipod and through quicktime.
Does anyone know why m4a and mp4 files can be played and downloaded from a .mac account but not another server.
I don't mind doing things a little differently. I also don't mind working with my hosting company to make changes to their server.
I have spoken with the Apple Genius Bar folks and they don't have answers.
    Is this enough information?
    thank you for your help,
    -bill

You bet it can't play what it can't find. Problem is, the file is right where the code says it is. Everything is in place. That is what I am talking about. The files are there. The code points to the right place and yet something doesn't work. I even had Apple Genius staff confirm file structure and naming.
It can't play what it can't find:
    http://www.damntourist.com/testcast/Podcast/F74D2462-F
    BFE-4699-
    AA40-0F7D430515C1files/200166486-001300x300.mp4
I broke the link (added a space) to keep this from
    stretching this page.
The .mp4 file isn't on the server or is named
    different than the HTML code.

  • Turning Red Page Icons to Blue w/ Non .Mac account?

The only time the pages changed from red to blue was when published to a .Mac account. I no longer use .Mac and when I publish to a folder the red page icons remain red, so I have no idea which pages have current changes which need uploaded to the server. If you don't use .Mac, how do you make the red page icons turn blue?

That's kinda my point - publishing to a folder 'should' do the same. It's easy for the app to check and see if there is a .Mac account (which it already does). If no .Mac account, then publishing to a folder should turn the pages from red to blue.

  • Publishing without a .mac account??

    Hi all,
I have a .mac account but want to create a site with lengthy podcasts and the like. So i have some server space I use which I want to publish my site to. I know how to use a client and upload the whole folder but is there a way in iweb or a client that only uploads only the changes as re-uploading a large size site every time I add to it would be a nightmare.
Any help as I would very grateful.

A list of Mac FTP clients is here:
...but it's not clear which are able to upload only changed files. If you click on this old two-page thread you'll see some diverse opinions:
    Another poster says he uses:
    Yummy for FTP...
    http://www.yummysoftware.com/
and Web Site Maestro for optimizing and uploading updates using "Smart Handling"...
    http://www.tonbrand.nl
(Their web site says: The Smart Handling feature and the combined Optimize/Upload function offer you *one-click optimizing and publishing of all your changed pages*.)

  • Publishing to non mac domain

    Hi All;
I own a non .mac domain and need to know if I can publish there from iWeb. How is this done and how do I update pages & blog?
    Many thanks,
    Susan

When you have a site on two different servers it might be helpful to have each site in its own domain file. I use iWebSites to manage the multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process and move it to another location on your HD until you're satisfied the separation process is completed and what you want.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.

  • Mail - alias non-Mac account

We have an account with a provider (non-Mac) and 1 alias. In Mail, I have addded the alias to the e-mail address field as per the instructions. When I send out e-mails from the alias, the receiver does not see the alias, but the main account name. When I try to add another POP-account, I get stuck under username and login-name because it does not accept the same entries as for the main account, while that is all the provider accepts. Mail coming in works fine. How can I solve this?
    Thanks for helping me out.
    iMac5.1   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

You cannot access a .Mac account alias as a separate account in Mail.
The following was copied from Mail Help:
If you have a .Mac account, you can send and receive email using .Mac email aliases. An email alias is an alternate email address for your .Mac account.
To send a message from a .Mac email alias:
Choose File > New Message to open a compose message window.
Click the Account pop-up menu and choose the email alias.
When you send the message, it will appear to come from your email alias.
Messages addressed to your .Mac email alias will arrive in your .Mac account inbox.
To set up a .Mac email alias, choose Mail > Preferences and click Accounts. Select your .Mac account and click Account Information. Click Edit Email Aliases to go to the .Mac website. Log into your account. Click Accounts and then, in the Email Aliases section, click Create Alias (if none exist yet) or click the Add button (if at least one exists already). Enter a name for the alias and click Create Alias. The alias will then be available in the Account pop-up menu in new message windows.
If the Account pop-up menu doesn't appear in the compose message window, click the Action menu in the lower-left corner of the message header and choose Customize. Select the checkbox next to Account and click OK.

IWeb was working fine until I had to renew my .mac account now when I hit the publish button a window pops up that tells me to either test drive a .mac account or if Im already a member to sign in. When I go to my system pref. it already has my info. Anyone have any ideas?

An interesting post, my .mac runs out in five days and I get a .mac splash screen each time after I have published telling me how long I have left. It alos includes a Renew button, even though I have enterd all the details for auto renew. Hmmmmm!

  • Comments Not Working on Website - published to non-.mac server

Hi there. I've read on a few non-apple sites of users having trouble with Comments and some other functions of their websites, built in iWeb, not working when they publish to a non-.mac server. I've built my website in iWeb, published via CyberDuck to a BlueHost server -- but now users can not post comments on my blog.
Has anyone found a way to fix this issue??
It seems incredibly pointless to even now have my own domain. I'm super close to giving up on iWeb all together because of this ridiculous issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    www.kellerowski.com

Unfortunately, blog comments are a MobileMe only feature along with the hit counter etc.
You have to publish to MobileMe if you want these features.
There are workarounds however. If you want to continue to use an iWeb blog, then you can use a third party comments feature. Take a look here http://www.intensedebate.com. It is free to set up on the site and all you then do is copy and paste the code into an html snippet on the page you want comments to appear in whatever format you want them.
Your other option is to ditch iWeb and if it is just a blog you want, use something like http://www.wordpress.com. This is free and you don't need a domain name and the blog is published on WordPress servers.
Your other option for a blog is http://www.posterous.com.
The iWeb blog system is not that good, so you might look into changing if a blog is what you want rather than a website.

  • How to publish to another .Mac account ??

For a variety of reasons I decided to start afresh with a new .Mac account - how do I republish my web pages to the NEW account - the older account will expire later this month ?
    Thanks

QTK - removing old account data may be the issue. I still have my original .Mac account name pop up from the Apple site - I think they keep the old ones in their system forever as some type of marketing scheme to get you to renew.
Since you can not delete your .Mac aliases was formed (only deactivate) - you have to set up a new account to get 5 new/different aliases.

  • Publishing a Podcast to a NON .MAC account?

I searched the archieves but could not find an answer on this one. I recently moved my site from .MAC to another server. Everything is working except my Podcast. Anyidea why? I did check that the Podcast Folder did get FTP but it does not work.
    Here is a the link:
    http://thereconsulting.com/Podcast/13D73BC0-F523-4635-9843-4C301D91084C.html
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Rick

    The root
directory looks pretty much like you described except
that the index.html is in the thereconsulting folder,
    not in the root.
This is the issue. Yes, there is an "index.html" file inside the "thereconsulting" sitefolder, but the RSS feed that iWeb generates actually is expecting "thereconsulting" to be one of the subdirectories of your domain, which means that you must have an "outer" index.html file.
In my iWeb application I manage about 8 websites, so
the index.html that is in the root folder of my iWeb
is not the one related to thereconsulting.
I think I am understanding your problem a little better from this statement now. Are all of your 8 websites published to your domain or do you keep them published in separate places? Anyways, for the purpose of your "thereconsulting" site, when you do the "Publish to Folder" action, "thereconsulting" must be the default site so that the appropriate "outer" index.html file is generated. Then you must upload this "outer" index.html file along with the "thereconsuling" folder to your domain root directory. (Also don't forget to put in "http://www.thereconsulting.com" into the URL box for the purposes of the feed generation). THEN your feed should work perfectly.
I know it's a lot of work to go through, but iWeb really has a very rigid structure, and in order to get things working correctly it's important to play within this structure.
Sorry it took so long for me to reply. I missed your original followup.

  • Using iWeb to publish to a non mac account

I guess the question is in the subject.
I'm just wondering if it is possible to use iWeb to create your website, but then send it to a different domain/server?

    nuorder72,
    Welcome to the discussions.
Easily done. Create a new folder on your desktop, and name it for your site. From the file menu in iWeb, choose File/Publish to a folder..., and select this new folder. iWeb will deliever your site, in it's own folder, and the index.html file needed for the site. You will upload both of these as they are to your server, using an ftp client.
Some good tips and more details on this can be found in these notes by Tom Gewecke.

  • Publishing Issue - Non .Mac

    HI Folks,
I Publish my iWeb file to a folder on my desktop. Test the index file in Safari and Firefox. Everything works. I publish it via Cyberduck FTP and all my images are question marks, the rest of the page is blank. Any advice?
    G5-Dual 2's   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Like I said the file works perfect when launched from
the original folder I publish to. The issue only
occurs when I go through the FTP to the "www" folder.
It's starting to sound like a hosting issue...
Have you verified that you have the exact same structure in the www folder on your server that you have on your local drive, namely an index.html file, a folder with the same name as your site, and inside that folder various pagename.html files and pagename_files folders? It is not that uncommon for people to accidentally change the structure when using ftp, which means it will not display right from the server even though it is fine when viewed locally.
Also, did you upload everything to the server rather than just items you had changed? That could also be important.
Again, the url would be helpful to verify that others see the same thing you do, etc. Also the name of your site inside iWeb would be helpful.

  • Publish to a different .mac account?

I would like to publish to another .mac account which I own. Is it possible?
    Sal

    A simple answer: yes
An explanation. You can do that if you haqve the login and password for this account. So, you can change or create another user in your machine and in his/her system preferences fill in the login and password and you'll have access to publish to this user
    or
open this user idisk from menubar (go -> idisk) and enter the login and pass.
    done!
