Publishing Web Gallery on iWeb

Before I decide to upgrade ti iLife 08, I have a question. I have created a web page for our family using iWeb. It includes a photo page and video page. I am very happy with the way it turned out, as it is a good way to post new pictures, videos, and family news for our friends and family to see.
Now comes Web Gallery in iLife 08, which seems easier and quicker to post photos and video on the web, but it kind of defeats one of the main purposes of our iWeb site. Is there a way to link up the Web Gallery site on my current iWeb site? If not, it almost seems that the photo and video pages on my iWeb site will now be obsolete.
Thanks,
Jim

Jim:
I don't have my copy as yet but why not publish the site and use it until you upgrade to iLife 08. Then see if iWeb 2 will work with the older domain.sites file (I would expect it to) and then decide the best way to do what you want.
The new iPHoto 7 has new slick photo and movie presentation capability according to iPhoto's page. Is that what you're referring to?

  • Questions about web gallery in iWeb - advise please

I have succesfully republished my old iWeb with iWeb 08, but would like to have some advice before I experiment further. The iWeb Help says I can add a web gallery to iWeb using either "insert>web gallery", or a Web Widget. Can anyone explain the difference to me?
My one Web Gallery has the neat new "carousel" effect and the other properties of this new function. Will any new photo albums that I publish directly from iWeb also have these properties, or are they unique to "web gallery"? The photo albums that I have republished with the new iWeb have the "download" and "subscribe" functions, but not the "carousel" and other niceties of Web Gallery. Thank you.

There are two completely separate types of gallery, one being the .Mac web gallery and the other being the ones that you make in iWeb.
Where iWeb mentions the "insert" or "Web Widget" it just means there two ways of doing the same thing. If you use the 'Insert' menu or the 'Web Widget' button you are able to choose one of your web galleries and insert an animated thumbnail which cycles through previews of your photos in that particular album. A visitor to your page is able to click on it to visit the specific album.
So there you have it, you can either build photo albums in iWeb without some of the fancy Web Gallery features or you can use the .Mac Web Gallery. The iWeb albums will be tightly integrated with iWeb and your pages but you can still integrate the .Mac Web Gallery to a certain degree by using the 'Insert' or 'Web Widget' options.
I personally plan to use both iWeb Albums and .Mac Web Gallery as they both have their merits for different projects I'm working on.

  • Web Gallery in iWeb Doesn't Behave Like Standalone Gallery

From iPhoto I published a web gallery of four albums. When you go to the web gallery the four albums appear. The key photo of each album is displayed. If you move your cursor you can skim.
If I add a page in iWeb and then select Insert Web Gallery and add the galleries each album starts a mini slide show. There is a small black box that flickers on each album icon. When you go to the web album page each web gallery album icon is playing the slideshow. Which is not consistant the way the standalone web gallery works.
Here is the link to the web gallery
    http://gallery.mac.com/kjritchie#gallery
Her is the link to the iWeb page
    http://web.mac.com/kjritchie/Site/Web_Gallery.html
When working in iWeb this motion eats up CPU. I don't remember iWeb doing this a while ago. Is this due to 10.4.11?
    Thanks for any advice.
    Kelvin

That seems to be the way it is. Albums added to an Album page are static except for skimming and the iPhoto galleries added via the Web Widget feature are dymanic. It appears to be determined by what application creates the entity, iPhoto for the web gallery and iWeb for the album.
This site has both types side by side and show the difference that you're referring to.

  • Web Gallery in iWeb

I inserted some Web Gallery in the iWeb page. When I click the link, the the displayed the Web Gallery doesn't have the feature of the stand alone Web Gallery, not option for Download, Upload, and password protection is gone too.
Is there anyway to insert a Web Gallery in iWeb without loosing the features?
    Thanks

I found that if I passworded a gallery first Iweb would not see it. If I published first then went back, passworded it and re-published it it was seen and was passworded.
It's a bit odd as it asked for a user name and password. entering the same name it both areas worked. The other options appear to work, but as always do not totally prevent someone from taking the photos.

  • Web Gallery vs. iWeb?

I'm not sure I understand the difference between the Web Gallery and iWeb. You can add galleries on both?
How do you remove a gallery from the Web Gallery after you install it? I was trying to install multiple galleries by doing the shift click then figured out iPhoto was combining all the galleries into one. I aborted and it said it was deleting it off the WG. It did not. The pics it did upload are there and I can't figure out how to delete.

    AtlantaRoyce:
Web Galleries from iPhoto differ from iWeb photo galleries in that the iPhoto galleries are run from software on Apple's servers (you only upload four versions of each photo and the server side software does the rest. With an iWeb photo gallery you have design control over how that gallery will look, comments under the thumbnails and that gallery may be part of a greater site with other pages. Then the photos and other supporting files are uploaded to be combined into an HTML based web page. The iPhoto gallery is java driven I believe.
All iPhoto galleries are part of one gallery. To delete an iPhoto gallery you delete the web gallery in the iPhoto library. The photos will be deleted from the iDisk and no longer show in your gallery.
The iPhoto one is much easier and quicker to create but can only be the one style. With the iWeb variety you can change the background, add music to the site. The two slideshows are different also.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Use video from Web Gallery in iWeb

    Hi,
do anyone using video from Web Gallery in iWeb? will it a better way than just drag and drop from the Media itself?

The following thread is about someone who started out with his videos in iWeb itself, but later found it better to instead link to a MobileMe Gallery — read particularly his last post here:
    _Casting Director needs advice_
And in reply to one of your threads, I indicated how much faster a video displays from MobileMe Gallery than it does from iWeb:
_My Web Video loading slower than Youtube (same file size)_

  • Add Adobe Bridge Web Gallery to iweb

I had made a Adobe Bridge Web Gallery.
It woks perfectly fine when I preview the index.html file in the gallery folder.
After I drop the gallery folder in my site folder,
and making a photo link to the index.html file. The Web-Browser shows up Blank.
Hope someone may teach me step-by step after exporting the Bridge Web Gallery in combining with iweb.
    Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Where are you publishing your site to? MobileMe or a 3rd party server?
If it's MMe upload your Gallery folder to your iDisk/Web/Sites folder and use the following URL to link to it?
    http://web.me.com/YourMMe_Account_Namer/Gallery_FolderName/index.html
You can embed the gallery into an iWeb page using iFrame code in an HTMl snippet. This is the code:
    <iframe height="XXXpx" allowTransparency="true" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" style="width:XXXpx;border:none" src="http://web.me.com/YourMMe_Account_Namer/Gallery_FolderName/index.html"></iframe>
Set the height and width so that the gallery is totally embedded in the iWeb page. You may have to widen the iWeb page with the Inspector/Page/Layout pane.
Don't put the gallery folder inside your iWeb site folder as it may be deleted when you publish site changes. Keep it outside the site's folder.
    Happy Holidays

  • Web Gallery and iWeb

There is a template in iWeb for albums, but not one for iPhoto Web Galleries. You can use the insert .mac web gallery option to get a web gallery onto a page, but is there a way to use the cool album template instead?
It seems so odd that there isn't better integration between Web Galleries and iWeb templates.

Yeah, I'm noticing this, too. Seems a bit of crap work, if you ask me.
I'm kind of unimpressed with the new iWeb. A few "widgets" isn't really all that neat, and I'm shocked they didn't include some sort of iphone theme (like a theme best viewed on an iphone.)
But this gallery thing is the most irritating.

  • How to use iPhoto web gallery with iWeb & personal domain name

So, another question about iWeb 08:
I've set up my site to use a personal domain name, like www.mypersonaldomain.com. I've configured everything with my DNS settings so that it actually points to my iWeb site, and I'm happy about that.
However, I've imported a few iPhoto '08 web galleries into my site, but when I browse to them by going to www.mypersonaldomain.com and clicking on the link for my gallery, it goes to a URL that actually shows my .mac account, i.e. gallery.mac.com/sockdaddy/gallery1/photo.jpg
Is there any way to have the web galleries that I'm using become a more transparent part of my iWeb site, and use my personal domain?

I've never done this on .Mac but I do use this on my server. I don't see why it wouldn't work.
In iPhoto select your web gallery and in the "file" menu select "export" and then "Web Page".
Select your options and click "Export" to the desktop.
There are now 4 folders and an index.html file.
Change the name of the index file to whatever you want to call the page e.g WebGallery.html
Now go to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites and open your website folder.
Drag and drop the 4 folders and the html file from your desktop into this.
Create a link to this from your website in the "link" inspector and choose "external page".
The URL for the link will be the same as any other page on your site except WebGallery is substituted for the page name.
If you check the "open link in new window" you won't have to worry about the fact that you don't have a link back to your site from the WebGallery page.

  • Hiding options in the web gallery in iWeb?

How do I hide the options in the web gallery in my iWeb? I want people to see my images but dont want to show the Download or the Subscribe buttons.
Is there anyway to turn these off.
I'm using iWeb 8 and have a mobileme account

    ddauray wrote:
Just to be clear, I inserted the photos from my MobileMe Gallery homepage and not from iphoto.
Sorry, the above isn't particularly clear to me. By "MobileMe Gallery homepage" do you mean via http://me.com or http://gallery.me.com/membername ?
Into which iWeb template did you insert your photos? ...For example, the Photos page template or the +My Albums+ page template, etc.
How exactly did you insert the photos from your MobileMe Gallery homepage? ...Did you click on the Web Widgets button in iWeb's lower toolbar and select +MobileMe Gallery+ and an +Album name+ ?
If you don't mind providing the URL of your iWeb page and MobileMe Gallery, we can then see what you're referring to.

  • Any suggestions about why images are not displaying in a published web gallery?

A web gallery generated in Lightroom 3 in 2008 was certainly working correctly when originally published to our (Guernsey Museum) website and still functions correctly from the staging server across our intranet. I have republished it from the staging server (via Dreamweaver) and checked that all the files are present on the live site but still the images refuse to show. The audio associated with the images and the gallery framework itself does work as expected. Another gallery made later and published to the same site works exactly as it should. The ISP cannot explain why one gallery is working properly and the other is not so I'm asking here in desperation if anyone has any insight into possible causes. The (Book of Sark) gallery which doesn't work is here:
    http://www.museums.gov.gg/BkSark/gallery/html/index.html
The (Peoples Choice) gallery which does work is here:
    http://www.museums.gov.gg/p-choice/index.html
Thanks for reading this far - any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated!

It looks like the Book of Sark gallery has photos in a bin folder.  Some servers don't like that, but it could be a clue for the ISP.

  • Publishing web gallery without .Mac

    Hello,
I finally have my portfolio all set up the way that I want it and would like to publish it. I don't want to have to use .Mac (and since it's replaced by MobileMe now). Is there a way that I can publish this portfolio using a free hosting server?
    Thanks!
    -Will

    Will,
In Aperture, Web Pages or Web Journals can be uploaded to any host site. The Web Gallery function, however, is limited to .Mac use; this is due to functions that are performed on the server and which are specific to .Mac.

  • Modify a published web gallery?

I don't work with web galleries very often but plan to do more in the future.
I've created a web gallery in Aperture and published it to .mac. So far, so good. Now, can someone please explain the steps to making changes to it ? (add or delete an image, edit the title). Page 350 of the help manual talks about making changes. It seems so straightforward, I've got to be missing the obvious!
Also - how do I delete the web pages I no longer want? I thought I did this on my iDisk once before but now I can't figure out how to remove the old webpages.
    Thanks, Dave

    Dave,
After you add or delete photos from a gallery that you've already created just go ahead and click on the "publish to .mac" button. In the address box that pops up type in the name of the gallery exactly as you did when you first created it. Aperture will then ask you if you wish to update or replace the existing gallery. I've had to do it several times in the past and it works like a charm. Hope this helps.

  • Publish web gallery to a different .mac account

    Hi Friends.
Can I publish web galleries to both of my .mac accounts from the same Mac?
It seems like I might have to create a different user account on the MAc itself and make the other .mac account the default for that different user. I would really rather not do that, as I have one iPhoto library with all of my photos for every aspect of my life and work.
    Thanks for any guidance.

To make is more convenient to do that you could create a second user account, set it up for the other .Mac account and publish from there. You could either use two separate libraries or put your library on an external HD so both account could use it without ownership/permissions issues.
You can also set up fast user switching so you wouldn't have to log out of one account to get to the other.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Dotmac published web gallery not showing up.

So I have now created 2 web galleries through Aperture 2. One shows up the other does not..
The URL it should be at is http://gallery.mac.com/cbchev68/100191 and it should be called Sushi Hunter.. The other one that is showing up is called Northwind Charters.
Im guessing there is some software bug here. If I go into Aperture -> Web Gallery -> Sushi Hunter. Then in the main window choose Web Gallery -> Visit Web Gallery, it opens Safari with the above URL and I get an error that the gallery does not exist.. What is even more interesting is that if I go into Aperture preferences, web gallery, it only shows the one gallery that actually shows up on the doc mac servers. I have to assume it is querying the dot mac servers for this data, as there is a 5 second lag or so before this list is populated.
Its as though Aperture created the web gallery, but then never actually uploaded the images..
    Anyone else seen this?

Well its definitely a software bug, I just created another new album with a slightly different name and it looks like the photos are now uploading and properly showing up.
