Hi Chris,
I am not aware of any compatibility issues between that SSD and your machine. I've purchased a couple of their SSD drives and the install was quick and easy. Although I haven't installed one of their drives into the MBP 5,1 (Late 2008), I have installed SSDs and normal SATA drives into the same body style and there's been significant reworking between the models that I've come across. Just make sure you have the appropriate tool for the drive screws and you'll be all set.
Regarding the install, the Apple Store will not install 3rd party components into your machine. Nor do they sell HDs that they will install. Apple will only install the RAM you buy there or replace parts as a result of a service.

MacBook Pro mid 2009 HDD to a Kingston SSD SATA drive - Problems

I own a MacBook Pro Mid 2009 and I'm running OSX Mavericks with Windows 8.1 Pro Bootcamp. I wanted to upgrade to an SSD drive and after reading the great reviews on Amazon, I purchased a Kingston 240GB SSD 2.5" V300 SATA 3.
Many of the buyers had installed the SSD drive on Macbook Pro, including "mid 2009' models without any real problems but I've just spent the best part of 3 hours trying to install the drive but so far, it has not worked and the problem seems to be that, although the Acronis True Image software that comes with the drive to 'clone' the source drive and install it onto the destination drive (new SSD drive), I get a message which states, "WARNING: After migration, the O/S will not be able to boot from the destination disk in the BIOS - If you want to boot from the destination disk after migration, you need to enable UEFI booting in your system and then restart".
During one of my first attempts to install the SSD drive, I removed the original HDD from the MBP and installed it in the supplied 2.5" caddy and and connected it to the MBP via the USB cable supplied then installed the new Kingston SSD SATA3 drive in the MBP, powered up and then rebooted. The Acronis bootable software launched and after choosing 'clone disk', cose source and destination drives, I got a message saying: "The selected disk will be migrated as is (disks layout will remain GPT)". "After operation completion, operating systems will not boot from the destination disk in the BIOS".
My system has the latest available Boot ROM Version (MBP.00AC.B03 and the SMC Version is 1.47f2 and as far as I am aware, Apple computers have no BIOS that you can access like on Windows computers and instead use EFI instead.
Both drives had Extended Journaled GUID Partitions on them and what baffles me is that other buyers of these Kingston SSD SATA3 drives appear to have managed to install the SSD drive, but I've had to give up.
I would really like to get the SSD drive working but so far I've failed. Any advice would be appreciated and I'll try it out before reluctantly returning the drive for refund.

Yes the Acronis software is Windows but I read through a lot of reviews on the Kingston SSD SATA 3 drives Amazon and from what I can gather, after removing the original drives and installing that in the 2.5" caddy and then installing the new SD drive in the Macbook, those buyers then used the software to boot from and clone the source drive to the new drive.
I'm not sure if I mentioned it in my first post, but I did use the Disk Utility in Mac OSX and erased, formatted and partitioned the drive and then pushed CMD + R at start up but I was not able to install a copy of the OS because the drive was not recognised.
I think I also used the disk utility in Windows and then tried again in OSX but no luck. I'm no expert but as stated above, the issue seems to be that the SSD drive is not booable in the BIOS (or Mac equivalent).
The SSD drive is SATA 3 and I'm sure that the SATA ports are SATA 1 on my MBP and maybe that the problem Perhaps someone can confirm this.

or
2. change 16GB SSD M.2 to 128GB MyDigitalSSD M.2 SC2 Super Cache SATA III 2 42mm 6G
Sata 500gb HDD for storage + 128gb M.2 for system partition
which drive and controller will be better for the system partition and will have better performance?

Both the 128GB MyDigitalSSD M.2 and the 120GB Intel Pro M.2 are 42mm and should fit the TPY.
The TPY's M.2 interface seems to be SATA 3.1 (not the potentially faster PCIe or SATA 3.2 express), which should be sufficient for current SSDs. I hope Lenovo did not somehow cripple the M.2 interface (as they did with some SATA interfaces in the past). Does someone have any performace numbers?
The MyDigitalSSD is available from Amazon.com. On can get it shipped worldwide with services like MyUS.com. For the Intel Pro M.2 I could not find a supplier.
I am considering replacing both disks resulting in 120GB M.2 plus 250+GB 7mm SATA and diabling the caching software.

Big Problems with Samsung Series 830 SSD SATA III (256GB) and W520

Hi,
i get my W520 last week with an normal SATA 500 GB Drive, at home i changed it to a Samsung Series 830 SSD SATA III (256GB) and install windows 7 64bit pro via recovery media.
I was wondering, startup was taking very long .... from starting windows to the logon screen 1.45 minutes ... Now i tried a new recovery, same issue, tested the harddisk which is in good state.
I changed back to the 500GB Drive, startup take only 30 seconds around....
Are there any known issues?

5. Clean Install i have tried, but first startup has shown the same issue
6. Tried the SSD via main bay and via multibay
7. checked BIOS for AHCI Mode
8. switched to Diagnostic mode (where can i view the report, machine goes driectly further in Booting windows)?

What speaks again Samsung SSD's, at the moment it is the fastest SDD on the market and so far i've seen no bad rewiews.
I can't find any thread with same (SSD and problem) ... i have seen some SSD issues in another community thread, but not with same symtoms. I don't know where to locate, at the SSD, at W520, whereeever.

Parece que tienes un programa de terceros que se ha adueñado de tu motor de búsqueda, página de inicio y/o de la página predeterminada que aparece al abrir una nueva pestaña. Afortunadamente, tiene fácil solución:

SSD-problem with MacBook Pro 13" (Early 2011)

Hi there,
I've tried to use two different SSDs in my MacBook Pro 13" (early 2011). The first one (Samsung 840 Series, 500GB) crashed after two days: the beachball appeared and after a restart there was this question mark-symbol on my screen: no system found. Had to send this SSD back to Amazon. A few days later I've bought a new one, a SanDisk Extreme with 450GB. I've used it for two days, then my system crashed again and after a restart of my Mac I couldn't get any further than to the grey apple-symbol. Even the recovery partition didn't work anymore. Does anyone of you have the same problem with his (or her) MacBook Pro 13" (early 2011) - and any ideas for a solution?

Which kind of SSD hard discs do support with earlier 2011 MBP ?
I'm using 15 inch earlier 2011 MBP. I would like to replace hard disc to a new SSD hard disc to improve performance. But I don't know which kind of SSD works fine for it. Does anyone work fine? Could you give me some successful experience? Thanks a lot.

Hello can I add a SSD to my iMac 21.5 Min 2011 and if so what are the warranty implications, is there a step by step procedure avaiable?

In addition to Mike's response, the iMac must have the memory added in matched pairs. That is, two side-by-side slots have to have the same size ram modules, The over-under slots do not have to match in size but you cannot leave a slot empty. You must have either two slots filled or four slots filled.
iMacs are even more picky than other Macs about their ram...you absolutely must use the correct speed ram in all four slots.

2011 MacBook Pro 17 SSD SATA 3 6G problem

Has anyone found the fix for this yet or know if Lion changes the SATA behavior at all?
I know the early 2011s have been identified as having problems with 6G operation and SSD and it has been hit or miss.
I picked up a OWC 6G SSD and the shielding cable to see if I had one of the lucky builds and it seems I did not.
Only the main bay negotiates 6G and the speeds are fast but I see random Drops in performance with AJA System Tests. It seems
to be a problem with negotiation or so I think. When my machine displays random "Write" speed drops it will stay consistent until a reboot.
The same if I display "Read" drops or the combination of both. A reboot or sleeping the laptop results in a reproducable change in behavior by either
clearing up the problem if it had one or picking up one if it did not. A series of reboots and AJA tests allow me to arrive at a state where I am showing consistant
good read/write without drops but it only lasts as long as I have not powered off or slept the machine.
Does anyone with Lion show any differences when it comes to the 6G SSD issues? Or has anyone gotten any help from apple with this since I know it has been documented many times now.

Lion has not yet been released. Discussion about Lion beyond the public information would be forbidden. Anyone here who knew something as yet undisclosed would be violating an NDA with Apple.
