You will be able to install Mountain Lion. As for compatibility, you will need to check the applications you have:

You will also need to check that your Mac is compatible:

You may have a folder named Backups.backupdb at the root level of your startup disk. You cannot find it with Spotlight. Just navigate to your startup disk (usually named "Macintosh HD") and drag Backups.backupdb to the Trash.
Is your startup disk partitioned? If so this may be applicable:

As old as your iMac is, have you cleaned out the dust? Dust buildup can lead to over heating issues. Remove any and all things plugged into it including the power cord, Remove the RAM access grille. Vacuum all openings starting with the RAM access area (air intake). Vacuum all ports and plugs, DVD slot and the opening across the top of the rear of the body. Blow compressed air through all your openings and vacuum again to remove any dust you loosend. Reinstall the RAM grille. Plug in the keyboard and mouse if not blue tooth. Insert power cord...

    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
It is the 5 second timing that initiates the reset.

  • Téléchargement mountain lion

Bonjour, j'ai acheté moutain Lion sur app store mais au téléchargement, il est dit qu'il n'est pas disponible sur l'app store Français, comment puis-je faire ?

It could also be due to the Apple servers being slow or overloaded. The ML download also takes me about an hour - but I had a 600MB update file last week that seemed to be going on for hours. I finally had to power down my machine as the App Store wouldn't even allow me to Force Quit (kept getting a message that an update was in progress). Well, I powered back up, opened the App Store and my download finished in about 15 seconds and I had to restart my machine to install it. Sometimes what the App Store is showing just isn't that accurate - sometimes it is and, as OGELTHORPE says, it may be that your Internet connection is just slow...

  • Mountain lion on iMac compatible with retina Macbook pro?

My late 2012 13" Retina Macbook pro running Mountain lion 10.8.4 is suddenly paralysingly slow due to kernel_task hogging my CPU. I have not been able to find a definite solution to this problem yet, but I am guessing some software installed is causing the sudden meltdown.
I ran Apple Hardware test 3 times.. the first time it spotted an error "4SNS....ICOR..." but after cleaning out the vents on my mac, it hasn't shown up again.
Now I read online that a clean fresh install of Mountain Lion may solve the kernel_task problem... however my rMBP is so slow, that I cant even manage to open the app store on it.
    So my questions are:
    1) Is there any solution to fixing the kernel_task hyperactivity on the rMBP that I am not aware of?  (Tried rebooting, resetting SMC, PRAM multiple times, repairing disk, repairing disk permissions -- all to no avail - the problem recurs after a short period of normalcy and then goes back to becoming unusable)
    2) I have a 2011 iMac... Can i download mountain lion on it via the app store, make a bootable disk from it, and use it to perform a fresh reinstall of mountain lion on my 2013 rMBP? Can OSX downloaded on app store of iMac be used on a totally different device like rMBP? Should I be worried about device incompatibility, drivers going out of whack, etc?  Or is the mountain lion installer a global software and can figure out the device make on its own and install itself correctly?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Oogamous

    1. That's a known problem in portable Macs. There's a fix but you have to follow the steps carefully > http://www.rdoxenham.com/?p=259 Make a backup of your files before doing this.
    2. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display was launched with a special OS X version, but as the most recent OS X version is 10.8.4, you can download OS X Mountain Lion from the iMac and use it in the MacBook Pro without any problem. Just download OS X Mountain Lion in the iMac and use Lion Diskmaker to burn it to a USB drive or DVD > http://liondiskmaker.com

My computer is an IMac 5.1.  Can I upgrade to Mountain Lion.
No. An iMac 5.1 is a late 2006 machine. An iMac 7.1 (Mid 2007) is the minimum needed for Mountain Lion.
If you have 2 Gigs of RAM, it will run Lion. It can be special ordered by calling Apple.

  • The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed. Cannot dowload Mountain Lion on iMac. Have purchased and installed on MacBook Pro

After on installation cannot download and install on iMac after installing successfully on Mac Book Pro

I have this problem also. I was able to download Mountain Lion to my daughter's Mac Mini without any trouble. However, I can't download this to my MacBook Pro. I have read other sites that suggest VirusBarrier is the problem and recommend turning it off in VirusBarrier>Preferences>Advanced. I have tried this and it still doesn't work, although some report that it has worked for them.

  • How to download mountain lion on iMac that already have it?

I have late 2012 iMac with MacOS 10.8.2 and I'm want to fresh reinstall my OS (no ask me, why, please ).
I looked in AppStore but saw only "Buy" link, not "Install".
So I don't understand - I need to pay for it? Why? I already have it installed on my computer.

    My pleasure.
Here's a link to read about Internet Recovery. You'll see where you have to use it for new hard drives.
    OS X Internet Recovery
If you happen to encounter a situation in which you cannot start from the Recovery System, such as your hard drive stopped responding or you installed a new hard drive without OS X installed, new Mac models introduced after public availability of OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion, automatically use the OS X Internet Recovery feature if the Recovery System (Command-R method above) doesn't work. OS X Internet Recovery lets you start your Mac directly from Apple's Servers. The system runs a quick test of your memory and hard drive to ensure there are no hardware issues.

  • After installing Mountain Lion, my iMac gets VERY hot!

I installed Mountain Lion yesterday onto my mid-2010 21.5" iMac.  Today, while running it normally, it got so very hot that I couldn't even touch the aluminum back.  The heat could be felt through the glass on the screen.
The fans could be heard, but didn't seem to be going overtly fast. CPU, memory, and disk usage all appeared normal.
I had Firefox, mail, Excel, and 1Password open at the time; certainly the apps weren't taxing the system.
Anyone else have this problem?  Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Although the specs for Mountain Lion say it will run on 2 GB of ram, you really need 4 GB to run well.  You can look at Launchpad > Utilities > Activity Monitor to see the memory usage with software open.  If there are a lot of page swaps, in and out, you need more memory.
Good sources are OWC and Crucial for guaranteed compatible memory.
