Pull DP issues after applying throttling.

After coming across this thread here https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/97cc527d-9988-4b6c-bf09-743f9c272338/throttling-to-distribution-points?forum=configmanagergeneral&prof=required I'm wondering if BITS policy is causing my pull
dps to fail intermittently or if their failing just because their pull dps. We've got about 110 up and running now. Also as i've been working with the MS help desk for about a week at this point i'm wondering if its a product issue not client specific.
We've got about 500 locations with just under 300 of those going to be, running as pull dps. We're in the middle of a migration right now and were about half way through. That when I noticed some of the DPs are having problems. I have provided better detail
in the thread i just referenced. It seems like there is an issue either because of bits throttling or because of the nature of pulldps. Could anyone shine further light on what Andy made reference to toward the end of the thread i linked in the beginning because
this is putting me through the ringer!

Hey David thanks for sharing. Your environment sounds very similar to mine in size anyways. Some additional detail on my setup: 1 primary with ALL the main roles(i.e. FSP, MP, DP, WSUS, SUP, SCEP, and SQL is co-located on the server all running under a PKI
infrastructure), 2 more servers also in our datacenter, provisioned as just push dps ATM but built so that if need be SQL could be spun up and off load site roles or expand to include a downstream SUP point.
A couple of things worth mentioning. I did a brief overview of what the CUs fixed and didn't see anything specific called out that would resolve the problems that were having. I opened a ticket with MS and on a side note those techs are generally somewhat
knowledgeable but their track record with me is rather horrid. I've ended up solving 12 of 15 cases. The most recent ticket that I had open was in regard to the large amount of Pull DPs that are seeming to fail. We were able to get it healthy again by just
doing a bunch of troubleshooting. While it took a couple very long nights it was worth it. I learned quite a bit about how content replicates and why the DPs were failing.
As I'm sure that your aware, a pull DP is simply a client that pull content from the source push DP and then does the SIS(single instance storage) and dedup processing on the pull as opposed to it being handled by the source push dp. We identified 2 errors
of concern through testing. The cert maint log was complaining about 2 missing registry keys, and content was failing to replicate. We would open the DTS log on the pull and check the bits transfer either with bits admin or posh get-bitstransfer and see it
failing out after sometime. We added the keys it was complaining about as the tech had a KB in the HD system, and while that issue was resolved through this method post SP1 pre R2 that didn't seem to resolve it. In the end i checked a healthy pull DP and it
was complaining about the same missing registry keys. What got me to a healthy pull DP was reinstalling the SCCM client on the pull DP.
Now i just need to do that 30 more times approx. I might still look into deploying the CUs prior to trying to run through all them DPs as that is alot of work but first i have to deal with patch Tuesday duties. Allow me to stand on my soap box for a moment.
I am in the very unfortunate position of not only migrating a very large SCCM 2012 env. but I have to maintain both env. and continue on with the day to day operations. Deploying software, e.g. Java, Flash, Reader, etc. I have to create the patch packages
and test/deploy to the entire enterprise. Finally i have to keep up with the OSD piece as well. Needless to say I've been averaging about 80 hour work weeks and will probably continue to do so for the next few months until this migration is completed. Its
suicide! Every SCCM admin that i've talked with has said this project would fail because we are so under staffed. I've been killing myself to make sure that doesn't happen. So enough whining.
The last thing I want to say is I ran into yet another problem on all days patch Tuesday, two days ago. The WSUS app pool crashed. I upped its memory to 5 gigs from 1.8 and it crashed again. I upped it to 7, same. So then i upped it to just under 9 and it
stayed up. Looking like i'm going to have to up it to if my calculations are correct about 12 or 14 gigs to support our entire environment. I didn't know if the WSUS app pool went down client would come back in mass trying to grab meta data at essentially
the same time. Learned that the hard way. I've read that they will transfer between 5-10 megs each. This month was a brutal month for patches. One of the largest i've ever seen. Wanted to share that tidbit in case someone else happens to run into a similar
problem.
Finally we have a pressing issue that has everyone up to the CIO involved, and i"m about to open a new question on here as i can't find the answer after several days of looking. Clients are going out to the internet for FEP/SCEP udpates if they've been
off the network for more than 7 days and since networking only has QOS on the datacenter subnets its crushing the facilities circuits. We need the exact URL they're trying to go to and I simply can't find it. I looked inside the MPCMDRUN.Log and it just shows
go.microsoft.com/fwlink? and what worse that gets redirected to a load balanced partner of theirs...Akamai from what our Pathview appliances are showing us. If we can't get the exact link then we can't properly throttle it.
My manager wants me to put a BITS throttling client setting in place across the board for client machines, something like 64k, but i think that has the potential to make things worse not better. I say worse because now instead of pulling the 120 meg update
quickly i.e. about 10 to 15 minutes it will take 7 hours. From what i've read bits traffic from many  hosts will stack up and is unaware of other production traffic. So it will increase the chance of saturating the link, not lessening it. I could be wrong.
Thats just what i gathered from one site i was reading.
If you have read this far, how are you dealing with SCEP/FEP cleints pulling their over 7 day updates over WAN circuits? I always thought they would pull that data from the SCCM environment and it appears that they initially try but fail then immediately
resort to going out to the internet. I'm thinking about possibly using GPO for SCEP/FEP even though it could potentially cause a conflict. I'll test it thoroughly if i do try that method. The most crazy thing about this entire diatribe that blew my mind is
every single client that migrates from 2007 to 2012 goes out to Microsoft and pulls 120 megs of data. Then they use the SCCM env. for their def. I had no idea that was happening until it start causing issues for a single site. I've tested in on 5 devices and
sure enough all 5 went to the internet immediately after being migrated.
Well this got way to long. My apologies. Thanks again for your input on the CUs. I will look into deploying them when I get some time, perhaps this weekend...or next. Wanted to go try for my 243 this weekend.

    Hi Rajukumar,
At the very first, please refer to the article below for installing CU on Project 2010 server:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd239177(v=office.14).aspx#Installation_steps
I found a blog for this issue:

  • SSH Reconciliation Issue after applying BP4 for OIM11g

    Hi all,
I'm facing an issue when trying to reconcile users between OIM11g and an SSH Target resource. In particulare, all worked well before applying the BP4 for OIM11g. I have a custom reconciliation rule that acts as mapper betweek an user's custom field called SSH, in which I enter the specific target account to reconcile, and the field Users.UserLogin of the SSH Form. The rule is specifically defined, through the design console, as "SSH equals Users.UserLogin". Now when I launch the SSH User Target Reconciliation for the specific host, OIM11g creates all the reconciliation events but does not link target accounts to IDM users (Not linked to any user).
Does anyone know how can I overcome this issue? Reading the log it seems to be no one error.
    Thank you so much.
    Regards,
    Giuseppe.

  • Font Issue after applying Patch on Forms 6i

    Hi
we applied forms 6i patch 18 for some users the fonts are not appearing properly on the Web.
    Has anybody experienced this before.
    Please help.
    regards.

Please provide details when posting if you expect quick answers.
If you are using Jinitiator and upgraded the version, it is likely that this is causing the problem. This will be especially true if you moved from 1.1.8.x to 1.3.1.x, although still possible with any big jump in versions. If this is the case, the easiest way to prove this theory is to uninstall the current Jinit version and resinstall the previous and retest. If a change in the Jinit does prove to have been the cause, there isn't much you can do, as there was a change in the font handling as you move to newer JRE (Jinit) versions.
You may be able to get some release by setting the mapFonts applet parameter to YES. Refer to MyOracleSupport note 338925.1 for more information.

    Regards
    Taher

    Hi Srini,
There was some problem in AIX. As the the application and database users(O/S) were not able to ping to the host itself.
    First i hit the note
Target Queue/Node Unavailable - Internal Concurrent Manager Found Node to Be Down [ID 738405.1]
which says make sure you can ping as the O/S users(applmgr, oracle).
$oracle hostname was giving this error
0821-067 Ping: the socket creation call failed.
the file access permissions do not allow the specified
    actions.
    but #ping hostname is fine.
Only root was able to ping.
After changing the permission as follows
AIX Version 5.x Change the setuid bit permissions for /usr/sbin/ping. Enter:
    #chmod 4555 /usr/sbin/ping
    ran autoconfig. Then voila
I could open the forms, and the concurrent managers are up.
Thank you for all the help.

  • Report Server URL field no longer visible in Dashboard Designer after applying SP1 and the October 2011 CU

    Environment: 1 WFE on W2K8Ent x64 SP2 | 1 App Server on W2K8 Standard x64 SP2 | 1 Dedicated SQL Server 2008 R2
    SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Edition
I recently applied SP1 and the October 2011 CU (Server updates, not foundation) on both the WFE and the App server and now I'm experiencing an issue with PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer in that when I want to deploy a new SSRS report, I no longer have
the ability to indicate the report server url under the report settings section because it's missing.  I also do not have the ability to preview the report nor can I modify any of the settings like Zoom or Format as they're greyed out.
I've been researching for several days now and cannot find anything to remedy my issue. I have reviewed the upgrade logs on both the WFE and App server ... I ran the product config wizard after applying the SP and the update ... Sharepoint is configured
to use Windows Integrated Mode for the reporting services configuration via Central Admin.
I noticed that the web config for my app was updated and compared that against a backup of the old web config and I mainly see diffs in version references for reporting services, etc.  (Ex. version 10 in the old, 11 in the new/updated config file).
Anyone else out there have this same issue?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Chad

Ultimately, I ended up installing SharePoint 2010 RTM on a separate system and then copied the folder with the PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer and put that on my PC at work.  If you open a PerformancePoint report inside SharePoint, it
will default to the version of the update so be sure to open up the designer from wherever you store it on your PC.  You'll know if it's the right one anyways if the URL is missing.
Also, once you've opened the RTM version, this will be the one that opens from the SharePoint shortcut via the Windows Start->All Programs->SharePoint Folder.

  • Workflow stuck in starting state after applying SharePoint 2010 CU December 2012

I have custom visual studio workflow which are associated with Custom content type. workflow gets triggered automatically when a file is uploaded to SharePoint. Everything was working fine till when i apply the following CU
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/joerg_sinemus/archive/2012/12/27/sharepoint-2010-and-december-2012-cu.aspx
After applying this my workflow get stuck in "Starting" state.
No error were logged in 14 hive logs.
    Thanks in Advance!

It took me a while but I came up with a work around.  There is a PowerShell script below that can be used to trigger the workflow.  Hopefully this will hold all of us over until the official fix arrives.
First remove the auto start on change or new from the affected workflow
Edit the script below to match your environment
Add the script to Windows task scheduler with the PowerShell.exe in the command line
This assumes PowerShell.exe is in the path
Then add the full path and script name in the add arguements text box
    Script:
#The purpose of this script is to start the SPD workflow with the windows task scheduler for a trigger
#This should avoid the check in-out issue caused by the December 2012 SP CU patch
#This needs to be run on an account with membership in the farm administration group for SharePoint and Shell in SQL
#You can use a find and replace to replace the server and other names with your actual names
#There are no status messages being used since this will be a scheduled task in the Windows task scheduler
#Add SharePoint modules and create variable space
    add-pssnapin microsoft.sharepoint.powershell
    start-spassignment -global
#Open the web site, list and the workflow
    $site=get-spsite %site url%"
    $web=get-spweb %Web url%
#Open the %affected% library or list and workflow association
    $%affected%=$web.getlist("%affected%")
    $manager=$site.workflowmanager
    $culture=[system.globalization.cultureinfo]::currentculture
    $wfname="%affected workflow name"
    $association=$%affected%.workflowassociations.getassociationbyname($wfname,$culture)
    $data=$association.associationdata
    $wfrunoption=[microsoft.sharepoint.workflow.spworkflowrunoptions]::synchronous
    #Start workflow
    foreach ($item in $%affected%.items) {
    $site.workflowmanager.startworkflow($item,$association,$data,$wfrunoption)
    stop-spassignment -global

    Hi Marc ,
    Thanks for your reply.....
Did you mentioning the script (upgrade_10131_
10133_oracle.sql) in the orabpel. I had run this script after applying the patch.
Still iam facing the same issue.
    what need to be done?
Could you please help me on this, because I need to do the Fault Handling Framework in BPEL and so i need the faultpolicy folder to be present.
Since I got the folder by applying the patch, but what happend is when i try to check out for the activity status in the BPEL Console Activity tab it is showing the error as mentioned earlier. Any problem with patch implementation or any bug is there. So far i done the patch installation successfully without error and i upgraded the orabpel schema using the mentioned script also. Any other things i need to do?
    Regards,
    Ashok.
