Pulse Audio jack detection problem.

Hi, In my work I use headphones for listening musing and if I shutdown the laptop and then remove the headphones and when I start it in home there is no sound. I found the solution: plug headphones and unplug them. For me Pulse audio does not make check on system start if there are headphones connected but uses last value, and only changes it on plug and unplug.
Is there are script that I can add to systemd on startup to check jack for headphones?
Thanks.

Hello,
since one recent update in January 2014 I notice the same Problem as Indomitable reported.
I am using Archlinux on my Lenovo X201 (KDE and Pulseaudio installed). After reboot I hear no sound from the internal speakers. As Indomitable sayed, plugging and unplugging some headphones fixes the problem until next reboot. (First I was afraid of a damaged jack causing a false detection - so I am now eased up that somebody else reports this behaviour, too.)
As a quick workaround in KDE (when you have no Sound through internal speakers and no Headphones laying around) you can go to [Audio & Video settings > Audio Hardware Setup > Device Configuration] and choose the Connector: "Speakers" instead of "Analog Output".
Of course this is no permanent solution since this bypasses the automatic jack detection.
Is this strange behaviour a bug or just a misconfiguration?

  • MSI 945GT Speedster A4R Audio Output Jack Detection Problem

    Motherboard: 945GT Speedster A4R (609-9632-01S)
    CPU: T2400 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo
    RAM: 2x 1GB Nanya PC5300 DDR2 667MHz
    Hello,
I've been trying to get two new computers running using these Mobile Core 2 Duo motherboards.  I have had 2 of 3 motherboards exhibit the same problem with detecting audio jack activity - when no activity is actually happening.
In the first failure, the board never worked at all.  It never detected that a jack was plugged in.  In this second one, it worked right for about 2 hours, then flashed some messages saying "Audio Jack has been unplugged", and then it has never worked since.
The Realtek Audio configuration tool now indicates no jack is plugged in when I insert a speaker plug into the light green colored jack.  Conversely, the one board of the three that is working correctly highlights this jack in the software app when it detects the plug.
I hate to keep sending these boards back to the seller, but it looks like I have to send another one back.  Are these boards prone to having audio jack problems?  Is there an easy fix for this?  Is it just a connector problem?
    Thanks,
    James

To reproduce the problem, I just have to leave the machine on for an hour or so.  After the driver is installed, a Realtek Audio applet is constantly running, shown in the bottom right corner of the task bar.  This applet automatically pops up a windows when it detects any jack activity.
Unfortunately, it just pops up (rapidly, about five times in a row) detecting random jack unplugging and plugging in, when I'm not even touching the machine and not running anything (Windows idle).  As soon as I acknowledge the event by clicking 'OK', it pops up another window, and another, until it has finally decided that a jack is not present.  Then the sound no longer functions because it thinks no plug is inserted into the analog output jack.
    Thanks,
    James

  • Intel HD Audio Jack Detection

I have recently got a new computer case with Intel HD Audio so I can plug my headphones in, and not have the sound playing in the back, but I'm having a issue with ALSA cancelling the back audio, not sure if there is a easy fix or not...
Motherboard model is a GIGABYTE EP45T-UD3LR... Intel P45 chipset. Audio Card is a Realtek ALC888 Chipset
All the fixes I have looked at have seemed like to me like they are specific to a laptop, not a general fix.
It's not really that big of a issue if it doesn't work, but it would be nice if I can get it to work.
    Any suggestions?

I have to agree but I doubt most people notice. Not a lot a audiophiles anymore. Intel HD specs are typical of a low costs digital to analog converter. You won't find many laptops that spend a lot on sound quality. Although their are a couple PC's that have certified sound with better sound cards. I would think your Macbook like mine has a optical digital connection through the audio jack. If you really want better D/A conversion you could buy a external D/A converter and connect through the optical output. Personally I use a pair of SkullCandy Hesh 2's and find the sound very good. I certainly have heard worse. At least S/N ratio is pretty good. Some laptops I have had in the past really had some nasty background hiss.

  • Audio Jack Output Problem

When I hear music via iTunes with my Beats Mixr, I hear it louder with the right ear. Neither my Beats nor I have a problem. It comes from my MacBook Pro 13" (Late 2013, 4GB). What do I do?

Thank you very much. I remember touching something in the Audio System Prefrences. I just didn't know what. Anyway, thanks. My friends said that either my 250€ Beats or my brand new MacBook Pro is broken. When i tell them what actually happened, I'm going to look like a person who has just started reading "MacBook Pro for Dummies" – if it exists!
    Thanks anyway.

  • [SOLVED] Audio Jack plug problem!

    hi
so here is my situation, i get NO sound on my laptop speakers when i boot up my computer. however i have sound from the headphone if the headphone jack is connected/ or if it's not connected, i will get sound from the headphones when i connected it. then i will get sound back on my laptop speakers when i disconnect the headphone jack!!!
so basically every time i need to get sound from my speakers after boot up and login, the way is to connect my headphone disconnect it.
is there any way to fix this?
    thanks from advance

soldier1184 wrote:that's going to be either an install related issue or your actual hardware is fucked because from my understanding of the garbled sentence is that you plug in your headphones you get laptop speaker sound an headphone sound when connected .....check your hardware make sure there is nothing grounding anything out ( ie screw wire etc ) an if that's no the case then check with alsa ( if you have alsa-utils installed ) type alsamixer set your default then google a search on how to set default audio within arch linux hope that helps
no i don't get laptop sound while having my headphone jack connected.
this is surely a software issue not hardware and i'll tell you why. this is my everyday routine when i turn on the laptop:
1- i have no sound on the speaker. i have no headphone jack connected. when i turn the volume up and down i still have no sound.
2- i connect the headphone jack, i get sound from the headphones. when i turn the volume up and down, the volume in the headphone goes up and down
3- when i disconnected the headphone, i then get my sound back on my laptop speakers.
so if i don't connect my headphone, or if i'm somewhere with my laptop that i don't have a headphone, i can't get my sound out of my laptop speakers.
it's like the system doesn't know anything about sound before the headphone jack is connected....

  • Ipod touch 5th generation under warranty, audio jack showing problems while listening to music. visited the apple service center and they are refusing to replace the model because of minor dents on the sides which aren't even visible. what should i do?

The dents are extremely minor since my ipod had had a light fall. Is it possible to get the replacement. The service center have refused to replace the model, and they have also terminated the product care without even my permission. Need help with this matter. Have had 3 ipod touch before this one. All with the same audiojack problem. Highly dissatisffied with the product quality and durabilty.

Agreed, but the dents are extremely minor, its not like the entire case is cracked and its coming off, or the screens broken. It's just a slight chip. And ispite it being so minor they have declined the replacement.

your first sentence says that you have, your last says that you don't. and your title talks about pulse audio.

  • Skype/Pulse audio problem only if auto started

    Hi,
I've an Arch/XFCE laptop including pulse audio and Skype (configured to use the pulse audio).
Skype has been configured  (using XFCE startup menu) to auto start during boot ( we boot daily), and, till about 2 weeks ago, worked fine.
Ever since, Skype starts but isn't functional (while trying to connect to the test service I can't hear anything, not even the dialing), and, after a few minutes, starts with a constant loud noise (which stops, once I quit Skype).
Interesting, since the problem  has begun, once I do either of the following, Skype returns, and remains, to be fully functional without any noise:
    1. Quit the auto-started Skype, and immediately relaunch it.
    2. Cancel to Skype auto start, and manually start Skype after XFCE becomes visible.
Looking at log files (below), I've seen some pulse audio related errors which I couldn't solve and may be related.
I do a full system update (almost) daily.
I'd be happy to return to the former state (functional auto-started Skype). Please advise
    Thanks

  • Audio jack won't detect any earphone after soaking wet on saltwater/sea

    Hi!
I'm a Sony Xperia Z2 user from the Philippines. Just last week,I spent my time on a paradise. Doing island hopping for 3 straight days and that means,my Z2 is continously soaking wet in salt water for 3 days, capturing pictures and videos of corals and other life underwater. I was not having any problem at all! Amazing device I have!
And then the 4th day came. All was well, phone's working normally. But upon looking the audio jack, the walls inside it is covered by 'GREEN' particles. I was told to follow-up running tap water on it,so I did. Nothing happened. Again running lukewarm water on it then cleaned it with cottonbuds. But still, nothing. There's a part of the jack unreachable by cottonbuds, thus, leaving little green particles on it.
I was told by a friend that there's an xperia forum discussing the same fate as mine and got theirs back to normal again. I'm not sure if this is the same forum he was talking about. But anyhow,I want to hear from you if you had heard already the same problem as mine and know the solution to it. I'd be in luck if somebody can link me a thread similar to this.
Thank you in advance for responding.

  • HP m7160n front audio jack problem

I am running Vista Home on my m7160n Media Center PC.  I used to be able to plug in my headphones to the front audio jack and it would cut out the rear speaker output.  Now it doesn't!  I have gone into sound properties and is IS set to turn off rear jack, when the system detects a plug in the front jack.  The headphones still work, but i need the speakers off when using the headphones.  I hope thats enough information.
    This question was solved.

    Hi MrBassMan26,
That is odd and sounds like the jack-detect isn't working right. Did this issue just start happening? Did it occur after installing anything, even a Windows Update?
If it just started happening, you could try running a Windows System Restore to an earlier point when it worked properly. Or you could trying re-installing the sound driver or even installing an updated sound driver. That should take care of it, and if it doesn't you may need to make some configuration changes in one of the Sound properties (Windows or Realtek).
I see that you have Vista, did you by chance upgrade to Vista from XP?
Try installing the Vista sound driver from Realtek: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsCheck.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&Down...

  • External Speaker Static: Problem with audio jack?

I don't believe that anyone on the forums had the same question.
I am having trouble with my macbook pro.  Whenever I plug in external speakers, I get bad static (very loud, about as loud as the speaker's audio itself).  I have tested this on multiple speakers and get the same results on all of them.  When used on another computer, the speakers work fine.  This suggests that it is something wrong with my audio jack for my mac.
I noticed that the 3.5 mm plug doesn't go all the way into the jack.  There is about a millimeter millimeter or two of space This isn't much, but may be resulting in the static.  I have tried forcing the plug all the way in, but it still does not go in.  Any ideas?
I am trying to avoid having to get a bluetooth speaker or anything wireless.

Headphones don't induce grounding problems like external speakers. I am guessing the external speakers were all amplified speakers, with built-in amps and some sort of mains power supply. Perhaps you also have some peripherals such as a display connected to the Macbook Pro.
Try this: disconnect all peripherals from the MBP (including the Magsafe power plug) except the external speakers and see if you get static. I will also guess that the static is more of a whine/buzz that changes whenever the computer does something different.
If this works, then you have a common ground problem. The cheapest way to solve this is a Radio Shack ground loop isolator on the speaker cable,

  • Problems with sound (pulse audio) configuration

My sound system is somehow not working properly. Only one playback at a time is working. Either flash player, a media player, a game. But never both at the same time. I want to use Cinnamon + Pulse Audio. I don't know what I need to install to get it working (pulseaudio, also, oss, ....) I assume the problem is that I installed several sound systems at the same time.
Could you be so nice and help me to determine and fix the problem? I have no clue where to start. I read the appropriate Wiki articles but I'm not sure what exactly I need to do. All I want is a working and autostarting/respawning pulse audio ...
    Thank you in advance!

  • Having problems with audio jacks, connections are shorting. i need an alternative solution for mixing in logic

i am having problems with mac pros audio jacks, any alternative solutions ?

If you're mixing in Logic, buy a FireWire audio interface. So many people make them, that it isn't funny. Personally, I'm a fan of M-Audio interfaces for a cheap, high quality device.
Here's some FireWire interfaces, they also make USB products.
