I am confused have you installed alsa or not?
your first sentence says that you have, your last says that you don't. and your title talks about pulse audio.

  • Can JMF capture audio from sound card?

I want to know if JMF can capture sound/audio from the sound card. Until now we have been capturing audio from microphone. but is there any possibility of capturing audio from sound card using JMF.
The audio captured from the sound card is to be streamed using JMF/RTP API.

    Dear seniors,

  • Audigy 2 UNDETECTED BY creative cd-rom software, NO SOUND CARD DETECTED IN YOUR

    Hello,
My card just did the same thing 'NO Sound Card DETECTION with AUDIGY 2 and Win XP SP2' and I found the solution by mere chance.
In fact I have purchased an Audigy 2 card two years ago and didn't like the plastic outputs. So I purchased an Audigy 2?ZX a month later thinking that I would return the first one and I forgot to. I changed my motherboard yesterday?having purchased a new clockable one.
I?overclocked the motherboard by a small 0% before installing all the pci's I have, just to try. In fact, I left it overclocked and installed all the?PCI's after. The Audigy 2 ZX was not recognised by the installation?CD. I could install manually all the softwares on the CD except 2. THX and another thing. I found that there was no equalizer and I hated the idea.
I worked on this and google for hours today. After dinner, I remembered I had another Audigy 2 in the cupboard. So I took it out, removed all Creative software on the PC through ADD/Remove. then uninstalled all the creative stuff in Control panel/system/hardware/device manager. then uninstalled the driver through the file CTZAPXX.EXE on the cd-rom.
I then shut off the PC , removed overclocking, replaced the cards and after boot, the CD-rom software recognized the card at once.
So I presume that the card has a chip, were it is recognised with. (EPROM) and this gets erased.
after all was working, I switched back the cards, and all was excellent.
so if you can get hold of another card for a couple of minutes, install the second card and all will go well. After, you just have to replace the cards. Beware not to keep your PC overclocked. I thing its the extra voltage to the PCI's that erases the eprom.
    phew, I hope this hel
    ps.

? A soundfont cannot contain alle drumkits, and it is not nessecary at all. I dont know a soundfont bank wich contains a complete set of drumkits, too. There are only some soundfonts like the crysis soundfont (to big for its "bad" quality) wich have some dummy-drumkits/ entrys or slightly modified sounds for each than usual. If all drumnkits would be stored in high-quality, the soundfont would be huge... Every synth i know uses the standard drumkit, if the chosen one is not existent. This is not optimal, but it will guarantee, that the the MIDI file or Program/ game will work. The KXDrivers wont do this. SO they are not useable for General MIDI. Only for MIDIs and soundfonts fitting together. But thats not the point of General MIDI. CMSS isnt working with these drivers, too. Dolby decoding/ encoding isnt possible with them, either. These drivers are not bad, but if you want a completely working card, KXdrivers are worthless.

  • "A How-To" on the steps to FIX the Problem of NO Sound Card DETECTION with AUDIGY 2 and Win XP

Note#: When restarting the PC each time, shut off the main power switch on the Power Supply then back on.
Note#2: You will need the Windows XP CD WITH the SP2 on it or have the download SP2 Install file from MS on your PC. I have it on CD.
    . Remove the sound Card
    2. Use the Removal/Un-installation Procedures for the drivers in Knowledge Base Under Windows XP Step by step. Restart to get all the files deleted in the Creative folder if necessary.
Here is the (Solution ID#) for the Uninstallaion found in the Creative.com Knowledge Base: SID72 "How to uninstall Sound Blaster drivers and applications?"
Alternati'vely, Click on the Sound Blaster Picture Box under the Knowledge Base Main Search Page and the article should be in the resulting list.
    3. Use the DCProSetup_.exe from http://files.trunetworks.com/utilities/
Use it carefully Selecting [Creative] then Check the box for Muntiple Cleaning Filters, and remove the Creative Audio Drivers by Clicking on Start.
    4. Go into the Registry by Typing Regedit in the Start>Run.. Menu
Navigate and remove the Entry for CTCMSGo.exe, it is running in the back ground otherwise and i believe it interrupts the re-installation of MediaSource Files.
    HKEY_CURRENT USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
The file link/tag, it will be on the right half of the screen, Delete it. CTCMSGo.exe=(Creative Technologies Media Source Go)
    5. Restart the PC, dont forget to switch Power Supply to off while powered down and on before powering back up.
6.Go to the Win XP SP2 CD or the file downloaded, select re-install but choose UPDATE, not New Installation. Let the Install run and update your pc, this procedure has no data loss or settings changes in Windows.
    7. Restart PC
    8. Turn off PC and install the Audigy 2 Card. Then turn on the PC. At this point you might get a plxcore.plx Error of file missing. Not to worry.. copy the file from within the Creative Drivers CD and paste it into the Creative Folder In C:\Program Files\Creative
The Knowledge base Article on the steps is: SID287 "Error: Program could not load because Plxcore.plx cannot be found"
    9. Power up and see if you get PCI Device, and Audio Controller Detetion. If you dont then do the following:
    A) Remove the Sound Card and Re-install the Win XP SP2 Update a number of times ( I did this about 5 times until detection) Each time restart and install the Sound Card into any of the empty PCI Ports until detection.
If that does not work after a number of times try the following:
B)Power off and switch the PCI slot of the Sound Card (to all the PCI slots if necessary with complete power off each time) Without Re-installing XP SP2 Update.
    0. After you get Detection, The Windows Auto Installer for Drivers will pop up..select Find Drivers Automatically, then Install then install the drivers it finds. It will put in some basic Audigy Drivers from the CD or online i'm not sure where it gets them from. Keep your Driver CD in the CD Dri've.
.Restart the PC, then install the Drivers and Media Source Files from the CD (it may not all get installed and may give an error and you have to shut down and re-install the drivers and Media Source over again and over again so it fills in the gap of missing files/drivers until it all works without deleting the previously installed parts).
    2. Only install this update from the File/ Downloads Section on the Creative website: EAX4DRV_AUDIGY2__84_50.exe Dated 29 July 04. The new beta one that was released is what started all my troubles, so plz i urge you to wait for it to be official.. unless you really want to test it out at your risk.
And there you have it.. in 8 Hours and some ideas from friends and relati'ves concerning detection problems of other hard ware they have had i decided to play Roulette all night and this combo works. I had to play Roulette switching the PCI slots (5 of them), and then towards the end play Roulette with the Creative Driver CD install... until they all work perfectly. WHEW!!!
Notice: I hope if you are really ticked off at having no sounds and want to try this at your own risk and responsiblity go ahead, and I wish you luck. None of the proedures are too out of the ordinary. I dont know if it will work for you but it worked for me and maybe it will possibly for other similar Sound Cards as well.. like ZS or Li've! etc. with similar problems. Happy Sound Blasting!!!
My Specs: P4 3.2Ghz Prescott on Intel D875PBZ MB, pqi GB PC3200 Dual Channel RAM, Win XP SP2, Plextor CD-R and DVD Dri'ves, BFG 6600GT OC 28MB and the Audigy 2 Sound CardMessage Edited by Flying_Ghost on 05-04-2005 09:38 PM

Thanks for pointing that out, it was not apparent on the day i used them and wrote the How-To. The links have been replaced with the SID# (Solution ID #) and the title given for the Article.
    Have fun

  • [Solved] no sound cards detected

after just doing a clean install on my windows pc (to finaly remove it for good yay) my sound does not work. i look under settings and it only shows "dummy output" no other sound devices witch there sould be.
i have tried removing fluidsynth and checked to see if there are any programs using pulseaudio using # fuser -v /dev/snd/*
after reading the pulseaudio wiki on the issue it suggested editing .asoundconf but it was not present on my system, well not in the home folder at least.
i know the sound card works as it worked in windows 7 and arch only 1 hour ago. the only change to my set up is that i am using catalyst as my graphics driver.
    other system details
i am using gnome via cdm as catalyst does not work with gdm
    64-bit version of arch
thanks in advanced for any help

I recently upgraded a friends computer from Windows Vista to, windows 7 Ultimate.
The icon for sound in the task bar ( a speaker) has a red x marked on the speaker.
After trouble shooting using the windows trouble shooter, I got a message "below"
    Trouble shooting Has completed
The troubleshooter has made some changes to your system try attempting the task you were trying to do before

the red x is still there and i still have no sound.
does this mean that I may need a new sound card or can it possibly be that I need to install a driver.
If I need a new sound where can I find this driver. Is it possible to us an external driver Is there such a thing
    Thankyou

this looks like a driver issue. can you share the computer product number, it must be on the bottom of notebook. its something like AB123CD#ABA. that will help me share correct driver to you. thanks

  • Capturing audio from sound card

Hi everybody, I need to record the output from my sound card, I've investigated and I've just found how record sound from the microphone and I don't need this ..... I hope somebody helps me ...
    thanks

    Dear seniors,
i have tried to display my audio file as a graph as
x axis being the Time and the y axis beeing the frequency/pitch.
look at this post, i have mentioned all here...
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3073027&#3073027
is it possible to display as i desired?
wht the audio stream has? is it frequency or pitch?...
pls do give me some tips on that...
    thanx in advance

  • Stream audio from sound card input thru network

    Good Day:
I have an application where I need to access instruments at a remote location.  Command/Control of the instruments is not a problem, but I also need to stream the audio present at the remote system's sound card thru the network connection.  Any suggestions on how to accomplish this via LabWindows?
Thanks in advance for any replies.
    -Ed

    Hi Ed,
First, I was wondering, how do you get the audio from the sound card?  Is it from a LabWindows program? I've never done that.  Second, I was wondering how do you play the audio on the remote machine?  Is that through a LabWindows program?  I've never done that either.
But I was wondering if just a remote PC app would do the job.  Like admins use to take over your PC from there desk and fix problems.  I assume they have these that send the audio thru the net as well as the screen.  Then on the radio's PC you just need a LabWindows program to control the radio and some other app to play sound from the sound card input to the local speaker.  Then the remote PC app would magically transfer the screen and audio from the radio PC to the remote PC.
Otherwise, I can just say that to stream the audio thru the net, after the Radio's PC gets it off the sound card somehow, I would just set up two TCP servers on the remote PC, one for audio and one for the commands/control.  When the remote PC client connects to the audio server the audio server would just start sending audio data to the client.  The client would receive the data and put it in a big buffer to handle network speed variation.  Let the buffer fill up to like a second or more worth of data before having anothe function/thread read the buffer data and give the data to the client PC's sound card.  Big problem is that the client PC's sound card will alway's consume the data at a slightly different speed than the servers sound card produces it.  Different clocks running at slightly different frequencies.  So the client function that reads the audio buffer to give it to the sound card must play games.  If the buffer is shrinking over time then it has to create extra samples to give to the sound card, just duplicating a sample every 100 samples or whatever. If the buffer is growing over time then it throws away a sample every 100 sample or whatever.  So it's kind of a challenge to manage the buffer with the variable speed of the net transfering data and the two different rates of producing and consuming the audio data.
LabWindows has the TCP server create and client create functions so that's pretty easy.  The harder part is that you probibly want to set the Radio's PC to a fixed IP address so that you can connect to it without worrying about domain names and such.  Then the two TCP ports that the LabWindows uses for command and audio might need to be setup in all the routers to let you establish a connection.  Your IT guy's can answer that.
PS. you can play around with this suff on one PC by using the RegisterTCPServerEx function and setting the local host address to "localhost", or "127.0.0.1" on one LabWindows project and using the corresponding ConnectToTCpServerEx with "NULL" as the server host name on another LabWindows project.  This creates a virtual TCP connection on the same machine.  This does not duplicate the different audio clock issue I talked about above.

  • [SOLVED] No sound cards detected - /proc/asound missing

Yet another case of 'i've spent too long banging my head on the keyboard so i'm going to run to you for help'. Essentially i've been using OSS since i've installed Arch, worked fine - although there was absolutely no sound in Wine programs no matter what driver i selected so i decided to try using ALSA. This is the start of my problem. Removed all the OSS packages i could find, ! commented the daemon in rc.conf then proceeded to install ALSA... or, some ALSA utilities since it seems to be included in the kernel? Anyway, alsaconf can't find any sound cards. Upon further investigation it seems as though there isn't any /proc/asounds directory at all. Although lspci clearly shows:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)
So i'm pretty stumped, no idea where to go from here. I've got ALSA working fine on this machine before, in Arch too... thanks for any help

Yup, i had done that. However, my search led to this thread:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=119263
Which seemed to be a similar problem but their solution did not help (pacman -S kernel26). But i'm pretty sure by this point it's a problem with my modules (ultimately my own stupidity, but we'll get to that later ). This led me here:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=18828
Which again didn't present any solutions that worked, however, upon checking my rc.conf again i noticed a blacklisted module by the name of 'soundcore'. I don't ever remember doing that, or could think of any reason why it would exist so i unblacklisted it, rebooted and now it all works - finding sound cards, alsamixer, playing sound. The lot.
All that's left to do now is see if switching from OSS to ALSA actually solved the problem in Wine i wanted it to Thanks a lot for all the help guys!
    Also - changed thread title.
EDIT: It did fix the problem, OSS is great but it simply does not play ball in the slightest when it comes to Wine.

  • Sound card detection - simple solution

    Hello,
this goes to all who are interested. The question how to detect a sound card was brought up in the past, and I found a quite simple way to do it. To my knowledge, this was not posted before.
The following code returns true if a sound card is present and enabled. I tested it on a couple of machines, and it seems to work just fine. It even works in Applets.
    import javax.sound.sampled.*;
    private boolean detectSoundcard() {
    Line.Info il = new Line.Info(TargetDataLine.class);
    return AudioSystem.isLineSupported(il);
    } // detectSoundCard
    Comments are very welcome,
    Stefan

I am trying to do the same sort of thing but with multiple sound cards. Do you by any chance know how to get a list of available sound cards on a machine and then choose which card the player will use? Your help is appreciated.

  • Two built in sound cards detected!?

    hi,
In the Audio (Built In) section of the System Profiler, I see TWO audio built in sound card. Is it normal? I'm wondering because my sound car have been changed recently by an Apple Techinician.
In the first built in sound card it is listing a BURR BROWN PCM3052 while in the second one, it is listing a Crystal Semiconductor CD84xx.
Does the technician did something wrong or is it a normal to see this? I'm wondering because sometime, the sound icon of the menu is just disappearing. When this is happening, pressing the volume key are showing a symbol like no-sound. Only a reboot will solve this problem.
    thanks,

here is a link to a brand new USB2.0 interface that is high quality and very compact.
    http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=audiokontrol1_us
unless you can use the digital output, the problem with the built in output is that it is a single ended or unbalanced output. most mixing boards are designed to accept balanced inputs, with some of them offering unbalanced AUX inputs. while the unbalanced signal will work with an AUX input, or even an adapter cable into a balanced input (shorts ground to the negative lead), the technical answer, assuming that you have some resources and proper planning is to go with a balanced output such as that offered by external interfaces. the extra bonus is that there is a nice big knob for volume control or whatever you want to assign, plus some other programmable buttons for skipping tracks or more advanced controls if you are using a program like Traktor or Ableton Live. (it comes with Traktor LE bundled)

  • Pulse Audio, Lost Sound

I'm using Gnome with Pulse Audio and was working well for a while.  Earlier today I was playing a .wmv file and my whole desktop locked up forcing a hard reboot of the computer.  When I got gnome back up I had no sound and can't figure out why.
Volume control thing on the taskbar shows that sound is unmuted and at full volume.  The pulse audio app shows the same thing.  If I open up alsamixer it shows only 1 channel which is also unmuted and at full volume.
Any ideas to troubleshoot this?  Thanks.

Well I (sort of) solved this.... I reverted back to plain ALSA and it works fine
The hard reboot was caused while watching a .wmv video.  I don't remember precisely now in what program, I don't have vlc installed on this computer so I'm pretty sure it was Totem.
Can't find anything on the wiki pages to help me, but thanks for your suggestions.
djszapi wrote:Or if you wouldn't like to check it, restore your backup
Well I do back up all my data religiously, but don't even know what to restore to make this one work short of a full image (which I don't have).  I have snapshots going back a few months but not sure which file(s) need(s) to be rolled back.
I'm happy with ALSA for now, I never got much out of Pulse, just installed it out of curiousity.
